Sometimes, an innocent person is convicted of a crime they didn't commit. And sometimes, after the real guilty person dies, they fess up.

To me...

Because I can communicate with the dead.

I try hard to help the restless dead find closure. And usually, I succeed. But this time my detective boyfriend is throwing a wrench into my efforts. I might be able to take the word of a dead guy, but the police sure can't.

And as always, things don’t turn out as planned. Now I’m stuck in the middle of a double murder—one from the past—and one from now.

Because someone doesn’t want me to discover the truth...and it looks like they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure this secret stays in the grave!

Déjà Boo is the sixth book of this series but I have easily followed the story, even if now I'm curious to read the previous books.

Paranormal mysteries are my favourite sub genre and get to read this book during Halloween day was a plus. It was a nice read with a good storyline, a tough mystery to solve and a suspenseful ending.

Chantilly can see and speak to ghosts after an accidental fall, she helps them with the earthly problems that keep them suspended in the limbo.
In this book Chantilly has to shed some light on a murder happened years before that interwines with a more recent one. The investigation is complex and intricate and more than once Chantilly endangers her safety and jeopardising her boyfriend, Jack, work as police detective.

I liked Chantilly, she is still trying to find a good balance between her life and her newfound skill, her life is complicated. I could feel her being pulled in different directions from her family, work and ghosts, that's a lot of pressure for a woman.

I didn't know this author before but now I'm hooked with her work, I want to read her back list.
You don't want to miss this one.

Volume 6 in the Chantilly Adair Psychic Medium Series

Obviously by starting with this book, I missed a lot of the back story. Luckily the story was entertaining enough to balance that out. I intend to read some to catch up. of the earlier books. In this book Chantilly is visited by a ghost who says the person in jail for his murder is not the guilty person. So Chantilly investigates putting her at odds with her police detective boyfriend and his new boss. Enjoyable cozy. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Chantilly Adair finds herself trying to solve two cases: one from the past and one from the present. A ghost confesses to a crime, but Chantilly discovers someone else confessed to the murder and is currently in jail. Unfortunately, the police cannot take the word of a ghost. Chantilly needs proof if she is going to get a man out of prison. When someone local is murdered, Chantilly is convinced the cases are connected. Someone, though, is not happy with her sleuthing and attempts to thwart her efforts. Can Chantilly resolve the cases before she ends up the next victim? Deja Boo by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson is the 6th A Chantilly Adair Psychic Medium series. I suggest reading the series in order. I discovered after I started reading that Deja Boo is not a standalone book (lacking background information on characters and town). My mother read the first five books in this series and has been eager for Deja Boo. She recommended that I read one of the books. I was fortunate to get a copy of Deja Boo. I started reading Deja Boo and I felt like I was plopped into the middle (it is like starting a movie an hour into it). The story is full of quirky characters in a unique town. It can be hard to keep track of all the characters especially when two of them have the same name. The mysteries were alright. I did not find it challenging to unravel the clues and arrive at the correct solution (my mother says I have read too many mysteries). Chantilly has a dark ghost following her and she has no clue who the specter could be. I enjoyed the reveal of the spirits identity. The ending will have fans of the series smiling. I had a tough time wading through this book. I found the writing awkward and the pacing slow. I felt like I was trying to race through quicksand. I’m afraid that I did not enjoy reading Deja Boo (as you can tell). My mother began reading Deja Boo after I finished it, and she gave up after reading a quarter of the book. I am glad it was not just me. While Deja Boo is not the right book for me, others find it delightful. Please obtain a sample to see if Deja Boo suits you. Deja Boo is a light paranormal tale with stray spirits, a closed case, fun friends, a dashing detective, good food, and two maddening murders.

Déjà Boo is the 6th Chantilly Adair paranormal cozy by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson. Released 16th Nov 2021 by Severn River Publishing, it's 178 pages and is available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

This is a very (very) light paranormal cozy with a protagonist who can see and interact with ghosts. The ghosts she encounters are just as interested and engaged with living as they were before they died. Additionally, there's an unexplained dark shadow flitting around threateningly throughout.

Much of the plot turns on Chantilly's insistence on investigating the claims of the not-so-dearly departed (who can lie and mislead as well in the afterlife as they did before), putting herself in danger and threatening her boyfriend's professional reputation and job, since he's an actual professional officer of the law and it's not doing him any favors to have a girlfriend who is continually communing with the spirit world and putting herself in danger.

The plotting is straightforward and action driven. The dialogue is a bit over the top but not egregiously so for a light cozy. It's a squeaky clean fast read which readers who enjoy paranormal cozies will find diverting. Also worth noting, it's set in the southern USA and I found the vernacular (and sweet tea, and all the "bless your heart"-ing) a bit much. Readers who love southern fried cozies will not mind.

Three and a half stars. Easy and fast read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Our favorite ghost whisperer is at a cross roads! Does she follow her heart and the urging of the man she loves to leave the ghosts be or does she follow her heart and continuing helping the ghosts that she is compelled to help find answers. Chantilly is going to need to figure it out quickly or she may be the next ghost that needs help settling things from beyond the grave! Excellent plot and the character development is outstanding. I absolutely can't wait for the next book to come out so I can visit these characters again!

Castleberry, Georgia. Present day. Carolyn Ridder Aspenson’s Déjà Boo (Chantilly Adair Paranormal
Cozy Mysteries #6), the final book in this series, has protagonist, Chantilly Adair, speaking to ghost who has been a ghost for awhile now, a murder victim. Before she is truly aware of her situation, she is involved in another murder, a recent one. Her ‘boyfriend’, I always have difficulty using that word when a person is grown and has a very worthwhile job, is Jack Levitt, a detective on the Castleberry PD. Actually, I have trouble using ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend’ when a person is an adult. Jack is familiar with Chantilly’s ‘gift’, but his new boss is not. Chantilly needs to stay clear of Jack’s investigations.
Chances! I thought that I had finished this series. Thus, when I found this 6th installment, I was delighted. Reading this light, short, cozy mystery with a few ghosts making appearances to characters I already knew and liked made a fun couple of hours. 4 stars.

***I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review

This is book 6 of the Chantilly Adair Psychic Medium series, I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but from what was said in the storyline, Chantilly fell down some stairs and hit her head and ever since she has been able to see and communicate with ghosts. She uses that ability to help her detective boyfriend solve crimes (although he remains somewhat sceptical) and she helps the ghosts to move towards the light if they want.. This is a light, quick read that is perfect for anyone who enjoys paranormal cozy mysteries

This book is like a breath of fresh air on a stale afternoon. The character’s come alive and jump off the page with their down-to-earth, yet quirky demeanors. This time of year I am always attracted to autumn inspired books and television shows and cozy mysteries with a hint of paranormal or a Halloween theme. Deja Vu provides fun, light and entertaining reading perfect for a lazy Sunday in fall (or any other time for that matter). This is the first book I’ve read by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson, and it certainly will not be the last!

Read my full review on Rosepoint Publishing.

Chantilly Adair can see (and sometimes hear) ghosts since she took a bad fall. She’s been helping those who contact her when they are stuck in limbo until something pertaining to their death is resolved.

In this episode, she is told by a ghost that he is responsible for the death of someone that saw another taking blame and is now sitting in jail for the crime. Trying to take on the mystery of the ghost to set things right, another murder occurs that she is sure is linked to the old case.

I usually enjoy some paranormal in mysteries, particularly cozy mysteries, but in this case had a problem with Chantilly’s attitude and never really did warm up to her. Nor did I find the plot to be a barn-burner. There are numerous characters and flipping between the old case and new had my head spinning with similar names and relationships.

The author, however, does have an interesting writing style and I know the series is popular. There is a sprinkling of humor and the conclusion was drawn quickly and neatly. No doubt her followers will enjoy this one too; it just wasn’t my cup of cozy tea. 3.5 stars rounded up

I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the author and publisher through @NetGalley that in no way influenced this review. These are my honest thoughts.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Chantilly, who runs the local historical society, sees dead people. Ever since she had a crack on the noggin, they come and ask her help to right a wrong that will allow them to find peace. When the ghost of a long dead citizen of her little Georgia town shows up in the doorway of her office, he claims he killed the person who died the day before. She is baffled. It seems she will first have to solve the ghost’s murder, for which someone has been in prison for a very long time.

She is forced to rely on the assistance of many in her community to unravel several convoluted; mysteries before she can discover the connection between the two murders. Her boyfriend, the cop, and her friends who are also aware of her “gifts” become embroiled in her efforts. But it appears if she does not back off, her boyfriend may lose his job and she may lose him. He asks her to stop getting involved in his investigation but she is quite impetuous and hot-headed. In spite of his pleas, she steamrollers ahead, putting herself and his career in jeopardy.

But there is a black mist that seems to be following her. She thinks it must be something evil that has attached itself to her. When she learns the identity she is both relieved and grateful. It is a rather sweet twists that I can see developing very nicely in tandem with the curve her personal life is about to take.

Five purrs and two paws up.

Chantilly fell and hit her head and now she sees ghosts. They need her help to clear up unfinished business and she does her best to accommodate with some help from her friends. The latest is a man named Jerry Watts who was killed quite some time ago. He claims a man named Wilbur shot him, though another man confessed. Then he claims to have killed a man that day. Chantilly discusses things with her detective boyfriend but he is reluctant to do anything without proof. Others are confused at the strange detail. So Chantilly must get to the bottom of the mystery. The past and the present are clashing and two murders are at the center along with a bitter old feud. Chantilly investigates but something dangerous is following her. Her investigation also bring great tension to her relationship with Jack(detective boyfriend). Both are stubborn, strong willed, sure that their actions are right and unwilling to back down. Time will tell if they can move past and accept each other as they are.
A hauntingly delightful mystery with plenty of twists and turns. Action, scandal, passionate characters, love this small town has it all including a resident ghost whisperer willing to put it all on the line to help the departed. A quick, fun read in a great series. Definitely recommend!

This is my favorite series. I love Chantilly and look forward to every new book. I highly recommend reading this in order. Each book is fun reading that you don’t want to miss. While the book could stand alone, I feel you need the other books to know the characters well.
In this book, Chantilly has an old mystery to solve. I really enjoyed this take. It was challenging for her to figure out what happened as most of the evidence was gone. This gave the story a unique and interesting twist. Dell, I swear I love her, isn’t having it with a seance either. She kills me! Ms Aspenson writes her characters so well that you really feel like they are real people. I can imagine each of them and the author stays true and consistent with them. I don’t write about the mystery as I’m always afraid of giving away the ending. I don’t wish to ruin anyone’s pleasure with my review.
My recommendation is to get this book and enjoy! Get the series if you haven’t started it. You will have a good time. Promise.

*I received an ARC of this book. My review is voluntary and based upon my enjoyment of the book. Yes, I did get my own copy. Some books you know you will read again. This series is made up of those books.*

This very readable paranormal series follows heroine Chantilly Adair's journey through her developing her mediumistic skills brought on by a head injury from a fall. Like most cozy series set in small Southern towns, there are a plethora of the requisite supporting characters and a detective boyfriend. What sets Chantilly apart is the growth of her paranormal skills and her dedication to helping the spirits who come to her despite the complications her quests often bring to her personal and family relationships.

A distressed spirit kicks off Deja Boo by confessing to a recent murder. Turns out that there are two murders to be solved, the recent one and an older one. With one suspect in prison after admitting his guilt but plenty of others with motive, Chantily must sort out tangled family histories to find the answer. In fact, those tangled family histories are a bit hard to follow sometimes and the ultimate motive seems a little convoluted. Despite this, Deja Boo is a fun read and the ending will bring quite the payoff for series fans.

Full Disclosure--NetGalley and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.

Chantilly is visited by a ghost that died years ago, confessing to her that he is is responsible for a recent murder. Of course, she must investigate to not only bring peace to the man who visited her, but two friends who both think they killed him years ago, one in prison for the deed and the other trying to live with his guilt. This story has many twists and turns, but if you pay close attention you will be as excited as I was with each page! This series is wonderful, and also touches on regular characters who are dear friends and their devotion to each other. Chantilly is also dating the local detective, who knows about and believes in her abilities but struggles with how to use the information she gains professionally to find the living person really responsible for the latest murder. I hope there are many more in this series, I find it challenging, at times creepy, and absolutely delightful!

Chantilly Adair is a psychic in that she can talk to the dead. Due to that special talent she tries to help the dead. She has a detective boyfriend. Instead of being helpful with the case, he is causing difficulties for her. She doesn’t understand why. Suddenly, she is stuck into a double murder. What happened? Why can’t she find out the truth. Will she be able to solve her case?

The author has written a paranormal cozy mystery novel.. This is the sixth book in the author series. The story does focus on relationships. Even though this is part of a series, I found myself enjoying the mystery as I didn’t feel like I do sometimes wishing I had read the books in order. I enjoyed Chantilly’s personality. It’s a good mystery!

Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review or any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

Once again Chantilly's ghost seeing abilities interferes with Jack's job. She can't help herself though as the need to find out the truth outweighs everything else. What happens when she puts herself and others at risk in the process?

Some hurt feelings and anger issues in this book, and some characters didn't contribute anything good to the book. (I'm talking about you, Adam. You are old enough to be an adult and quit behaving like a spoiled brat.) In spite of being confused by the names sometimes (2 Jerry's), other characters included some new ones and several old friends. So many twists, turns, and denials left the reader guessing unsuccessfully about circumstances, guilty parties, and stray ghosts!

A fun visit with Chantilly and crew, making it a delightful story and addition to the series.

I enjoyed this light hearted and fun visit to the town of Castleberry, their ghosts and Chantilly Adair. Ever since she fell and injured her head, Chantilly has been able to see and speak to ghosts. No longer hiding her ability, she is able to resolve issues for the ghosts who seek her help. When a ghost tells her that the person who murdered him is not the man in prison, she seeks out her boyfriend, Detective Jack Levitt. Of course, Jack can’t pursue evidence from a ghost, so Chantilly and her friends begin to ask questions of the families involved. When another man is killed, are the deaths connected? A dark spirit has been following Chantilly, should she be worried or does the spirit “have her back”? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. Chantilly and her beau detective Jack have had difficulties with her following her instincts, and his doing his jib as a police detective.

with a new chief pushing for conviction numbers over accuracy, things are likely to come to a head. Knowing Chantilly, likely in a blaze of southern gal temper.

will the way a northern transplant chief handles southern homicide and his officers explode in the face of tangled small town secrets?

Will Jack and Chantilly survive as a couple?

will her son come out of his teenage coma and grow a pair and learn to fix his own dinner?

small town secrets and history clash with modern methods

drama and paranormal action packed whodunnit

Another totally entertaining cozy that will leave you shaking your head and laughing as Chantilly with her madcap little group of friends are on the loose again. However, this ghost was murdered over 40 years ago and "pops in" to have a visit with Chantilly. But there are twists and turns that keep this newest story going at warp speed from start to finish. Who is the "dark ghost" that keeps appearing, are 2 murders connected, is this the final straw with Jack & Chantilly? This book is loaded with answers to all if that and more! Another great story that I recommend.

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review with my own personal opinions.

I was happy to be back in this world as I like how nosy Chantilly is, and I love how her and Jack are so in love. However, in this latest, that love is tested as the latest ghost she is helping is tied up with an investigation of Jack’s and Jack’s new boss is not one to mess around with. It was interesting the twists and turns this latest mystery had, and I was not real surprised with the reveal, but what I really liked was the end when we found out about the shadow. That threw me for a loop! Fun characters, interesting mystery, and a great ending. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Deja Boo is book 6 in the Chantilly Adair Paranormal Cozy Mystery series by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson.

Chantilly Adair is at work when the ghost of a long dead man appears. There is a new murder and Chantilly tries to figure out if the deaths are related.

Between trying to investigate two deaths and not cause issues for Jack at work, Chantilly had her hands full. It really was a rollercoaster for her and we were along for the ride. It was really interesting how things wrapped up. I can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you to the publisher for the advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Chantilly sees dead people…and she can speak with them. When a ghost from the past visits Chantilly, she has to find a way to help right an old wrong, but who will believe her when she tells them the wrong man is in prison for a murder? That’s if she can get them to believe her before someone puts an end to the story and Chantilly.

Another great entry in this series. I love ghosts and cozies so this series is a favorite. If you’re a fan of these two as well, this is definitely a series you want to check out!

De'ja Boo is the 6th book in the Chantilly Adair Psychic by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson with publisher Seven Rivers Publishing. I'm Chantilly Adair and I talk to the dead! First a ghost tells that the wrong person is in jail for killing him. .Then he tells Chantilly that the person who recently was killed was his doing. How does a ghost kill a person? With more ghosts and lots of twists and turns this book has an unexpected ending...

Thanks you NetGalley and Seven Pines Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this great book!

Déjà Boo is an exciting, action packed cozy where Chantilly has to solve a cold case as well as the current murder. It is always fun to catch up with the recurring characters. This time Jack has a new boss, Chantilly is making Jack fear he will lose his job, and Chantilly has to reevaluate her priorities. It is hard to say no to a ghost. With a dark specter hanging around, Chantilly has some ominous feelings. Ms. Aspenson manages to bring everything to a most satisfying conclusion, but not before some exciting events play out. I could not put the book down!

So, Chantilly gets involved in a murder from years ago. But then it appears to, somehow, impact on a brand new death.
Her boyfriend, Jack, is getting pressure from the new Chief to solve the new crime fast and the Chief isn't impressed by Chantilly getting involved.
Throw in a few ghosts (helpful and otherwise) and the scene is set for another mystery.
I was fortunate enough to get hold of an advanced review copy of this book and can honestly say that I enjoyed every moment of it. It is well worth the read.

Chantilly Adair is back and investigating the murder of Jerry Watts, a ghost who says he knows who murdered him. Is that really what he wants? Jack Levitt who Chantilly is dating is trying to solve a recent murder. Chantilly realizes that the murder from the past and the present murder are connected with help from Olivia, Thelma and Del. All that is left is catching the murderer.

I love this series from Carolyn Ridder Aspenson. The characters are likable and so much fun to read about. I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Complicated finale to the series

I could have used a pedigree chart to figure out the relationships and subsequent motivations for this wrap-up. Asst least all the murders were eventually solved and there was a happy ending. There was lots of southern atmosphere to add reality to the characters' actions and interactions, which made the series even more interesting for this Yankee who has lived in North Carolina and the Florida panhandle, bringing back memories.
Not too many technical English mistakes.

A Very Good Read (and series)

Chantilly Adair is a town historian who can see ghosts thanks to a fall down the stairs at the town museum where she works. This time around she is helping a ghost put to rest his murder from years ago while trying to find a connection between that murder and a recent one. I've read all six books in the Midlife in Castle berry series in a little over a week. If you like paranormal cozy mysteries, this is for you. Fairly clean language and lovable characters. I almost hate to close the door on Chantilly and her friends.

This is such a delightful series! Ghosts are telling Chantilly about past and present crimes. She believes them, but her lawman boyfriend needs real evidence. Great storytelling with well developed characters and plenty of plot twists keep the pages turning. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
