A human thief. A vampire raider. A marriage of convenience bound in blood.
In a realm where magic and the creatures who can wield it are forbidden, Brexia is an orphan twice over. A human adopted by a vampire, she is forbidden from leaving the home for gifted children where she was raised after her mother’s passing...until the child she loves as a sister disappears, leaving only a curious charm under her pillow as a clue.
Armed with secrets and the curious stone around her neck, Brexia flees the foundling home on a search for the one thing she’s sought all her life: the truth.
Neo is a vampire lord intent on destroying the rival who framed and tortured him. He doesn’t intend to recruit Brexia for the quest, but once she discovers his truth, he consents to a marriage of convenience that will give them both what they seek.
Neo refuses to fully trust the woman who steals anything she can fit into her cloak. But he discovers that his thieving bride has a way of helping herself to everything she wants: his treasury, his home, and the depths of his scarred heart.

I had the opportunity to read an ARC for an honest review. This was the first introduction to Callie Chase.
Tropes: enemies to lovers, marriage for convenience, found family
I wanted to read this because it had vampires and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The characters were amazingly written. The story was entertaining and kept me wanting more.
Brexia (FMC) has gone through a bunch of things through her life but has kept a positive attitude. She did exactly what she needs to survive her circumstances but you could feel that she wants more.
Neo (MMC) is the opposite of Brexia. He goes through somethings that will break a person and he lets it get change him.
They are the perfect sunny grumpy match and they way their relationship grows through the book is fun to watch. At times it feels like they will fall apart. It is a slow burn but it was done perfectly.
There are a number of things that are going on in this book between Brexia past and Neo past but it never becomes difficult to follow. It is easy to keep track of everything and everyone and how they fit. Sometimes when multiple things are going on it can become confusing but the author did an amazing job with keeping it clear.
Definitely enjoyed all the characters and the story between Brex and Neo. I know this is the first in a series and I can’t wait to read the rest.
No cliffhangers. But seems to hopefully lead to the next book. I am hoping because I need to know what Rain and Gia are up to.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the underlining plot overall. The story was nicely paced to keep me flipping pages. I would have finished in a couple days if I wasn't busy.
The main character building and personalities across the board were all likeable and well done.
I'm interested to see if there will be more to the story and would definitely get the next book if there is one.
There were not many triggers within the story and read like a Dark YA.
Death on page/fighting.
I was hoping for some spice but there is romance/flirting. I went into this book with no expectations or knowledge if this was Adult or YA. Personally I would say high end YA due to a couple mentions without details on a spice level. Kissing/cuddling, but no sex on page.
I’ve been feeling like a magical, epic fantasy, and Callie Chase absolutely nailed it. The writing is phenomenal, and it had that captivating, page-turning rhythm that I absolutely love in a wonderfully written story. Brex and Neo are awesome. I wish I could read this for the first time again! Reaaaaaaally looking forward to more from this author!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The plot was interesting and easy to follow with some unexpected plot twists. The prose was good, and the quick pacing made the book a page-turner.
What I loved the most, however, were the characters. Brex is a great protagonist, who stands up fearlessly for what she thinks is right. I liked the development of her character and of her relationship with Neo. Even the secondary characters were all likeable and made me interested in reading more about them. The world building was also excellent and made me want to know more about the realm and the creatures that inhabit it.
I would have liked an epilogue as I think that the book ended somewhat abruptly. I'd definitely read a sequel to the main couple's story or a spin-off focusing on some of the supporting characters if there are further books in the series.
Honestly this book has everything I love--a lush fantasy world, a broody hero with a heart of gold, a strong heroine who can absolutely take care of herself, and FOUND FAMILY!! Also goblins, and magic, and monsters...
The writing in this is so good, and the magic system was really cool, with a unique take on vampires. Neo and Brex are wonderful on their own, but the supporting case (including the horses!) really make this story so rich and believable. Also, hands down the most creative wedding night scene I've ever read! ;)
I wanna blab about all the intricacies but I don't want to spoil anything. I am really excited to read more from Callie, especially since she's set up so many interesting breadcrumbs that I think (I hope) will come out in future stories. Definitely one of my new fave fantasies!
From the first introduction the reader is enamored by the principle characters thanks to both the physical detail provided, the insightful delivery of their verbal intercourse with one another and supporting cast and through the behavioral characteristics which manifest in what the author hints may be their strengths and weaknesses --- but don't be fooled as each succeeding chapter layers on complexities as we truly come to know each character. Even the secondary characters serve as imported spices which enhance the meal compelling the reader to rush forth leaving nary a morsel on the plate. A very strong edge of your seat what happens next story line with periodic dialogue the makes you stop and think, did I just read that, compelling the reader go back and re read the preceding paragraph to make sure they haven't missed anything. What a treat this book is. I only hope there are more in the works.
This is my first read by this author, and I doubt it will be my last. The book was well written, with a great plot that was well paced throughout the book, holding my interest until the very end and left me hoping there may be a follow up to it. The characters were well thought out and very relatable and highly likable.
The book is set in a realm where magic and magical types are frowned upon and hunted by the Queen, who has her spies all over so no one really know who they can trust which causes unrest. The heroine of the book is Brexia, whose parents died when she was very young, but she was brought up by a wonderful lady, who taught her values, and lavished love on her, it just so happened the lady was a vampire and when she realised her end was in sight she took Brexia to a Foundling Home and paid the woman there to look after her and to hopefully get her adopted into a loving family. However the owner of the home was not what people thought she was, she had magic and used it in a really evil and cruel way on the children in her care, especially Brexia whom she had no intention of finding adoptive parents for, she used her as an unpaid Jill of All Trades, she cleaned, cooked and cared for the other foundlings all of whom were some sort of magical. Brexia is what was known as a common, having no magic. But she was very smart, kind and intuative. She manages to run away and lives off her wits and stealing the odd bits here and there to survive. Doing something bad too accomplish a greater good is the motto she lives by and will only steal from people who look like they can afford to loose a few pennies or the odd piece of jewellry. One day in a tavern where she is lurking hoping to score something to eat and maybe a few coppers to keep her going on in the search for her "sister" who disappeared from the home and although not related by blood she loved like a true sister. She notices two men in deep conversation and targets the richer looking on of the two, steals a couple of sausages from his plate of food, a couple of coins from his purse and his eating knife. She soon discovers she has bitten off more that she thought, and the man catches up with her demanding his knife back. Thus begins the true adventure of this book, the story has twists and turns, action and a will they/won't they love story going through it and really deserves the five stars I have given it.
If you’re looking for a slow-burn, epic adventure, vampire romance than this is the book for you.
SPOILERS AHEAD
This book starts off in a little pub where we are introduced to our main character and narrator Brexia. We learn that Brex has escaped from a foundling orphanage and is making her way across the land in order to find a job and steady income in order to rescue her sister. In this same pub we meet our main male character Neo. Unfortunately, Brex’s life has not been easy since she escaped the orphanage, and while she’s not proud of it she is having to steal out of necessity to keep herself alive and moving forward. Cue her stealing from ole Neo. Neo is not one to let her thievery go so easily though, he chooses to confront her and have his stuff returned to him. Brex sees an opportunity in this meeting though and demands a job in return for his stuff. Reluctantly, Neo agrees if she can reach his manor within the week. This is no deterrent for our Brex though, and rises to his challenge. Once at the manor though is where our story really kicks off. And where I’m going to end telling you what happened in order to avoid any major spoilers, as well as leaving you wanting to read this book for yourself. I will continue by saying this though… this book is absolutely stuffed to the brim with adventure!! There is never a dull moment in this novel, as soon as you think you’ve finished one adventure and our characters may get a chance to relax and enjoy a moment of down time they are thrown (sometimes literally) into the next one. I absolutely adored all of the characters in this book! Brex and Neo were very well fleshed out and I enjoyed learning about their individual lives and then seeing how those lives and personalities blended together. I even loved our side characters who were also very well fleshed out and felt like an important part of the story, rather than just there for comic relief or to just add a bit of dialogue now and then as with some other stories I’ve read! I will say while I gave the book 4 stars I give the romance only about 3.5 because while the romance was there, I thought it would be a little more prominent part of the story but it is more of a secondary story line to the adventures that our characters are going through. It is also a bit of a closed door romance, while there are mentions of some adult things and times happening there’s is no graphic descriptions. Don’t get me wrong the romance is there and it is super sweet, and very much an important part of the story. Overall, this book was very good and definitely a must read for anyone who loves a good vampire adventure story with romance sprinkled throughout.
HAPPY READING!! 📖

This was such a fun read, especially for the fall season with its incredible magical vibes. Who could say no to thieves, magic, mystery, and a few adventures along the way? Neo was an easy one to fall in love with, and Brex? Oh wow, the twists with that one! I was thoroughly engaged to the very last word to see what would become of everyone. Callie does a fantastic job of building a world where magic and supernatural creatures are around every corner. There are so many creature characters to build the series off of! I can’t wait to dive more into this realm, and hopefully a few others too!
I received an ARC and this is my honest unbiased review.
This is a first of hopefully many other stories by Callie that I have a chance to read. I was absolutely hooked from the beginning. I love vampire stories of all kinds and this was definitely a very different one. It started off as no other....boy meets girl...boy doesn't like/trust girl....boy needs to protect girl...boy falls for girl and has to have her as his own.
Callie has a talent for creating a great story that carries all the way through. The characters flowed together and the story line never faltered.
Brexia is a pretty thief who just wanted to find a better life and save her loved ones. Neo just wanted a job done and never wanted to let anyone get close but as fate would have it for anyone that was not going to happen. They learned fate has a way of making you go different paths other than the ones you set out for yourself.
This is an easy read and a slow developing romance but not to the point where you get bored waiting for it. The character building was a perfect pace.
I can't wait to see the next installment....Callie this must go on....with new adventure for Brexia and Neo or Rain and Gia.
There are some minor spelling mistakes but not to a point where it was a problem. Five stars was an easy giving
3.5 ⭐️This one is kind of hard to rate because i really did enjoy the story, and I’ll read book two! I think the pacing was just a bit off, and the writing was more passive, so there wasn’t a lot of urgency to keep reading. In a fantasy i prefer a stronger pace to motivate me to keep reading, but overall i did like the book!
A fairy tale with forbidden magic and vampires. This is a mix of mystery and love in unexpected places.
I enjoyed the dynamic between Neo and Brexia in this, I love a good marriage by convenience troupe. The tension between these two is more of a slow burn as they learn to trust one another. They fight for what they believe to be the right thing and care for the other.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I hope we get more in the future!! There is not much romance on page but some sweet kisses do happen. We do get a fun mix of action, supernatural, and vampires that is on an upper YA level.
total sunny grumpy pair up. it really points home that some people go through things no one should and it breaks them and makes them different. That was Neo. Brex was the opposite. No matter what happened she stayed positive and stood up for right. She is the type that experiences things and goes on to make sure others don't or help those that do. I enjoyed the world, but I want more of it! This would have been a 5 if the ending was so abrupt. A kind of what happens then moment?!
Pretty solid 3 🌟 epic romfantasy book. There's a mystery regarding the characters, and I especially liked that Brex had something deeper going on for her. I loved the romance and tension between the two and especially liked how everyone warmed up to Brex and ultimately accepted her into their family.
However, I sometimes found myself annoyed at how Neo would jump from love to annoyance/borderline hate with Brex, even when she tried to communicate with him. It's always a whiplash with him and I began to just tiptoe around reading him. Sometimes, I'd be hesitant to read the next paragraph only because I'm terrified to find him either (1)blowing up, (2) stonewalling Brex, (3) completely not listening to her. I don't think he had enough time to develop out of that bad habit considering 2 chapters away from the ending, he's still choosing someone who was associated with the Antagonist solely because he is a raider friend, over her assessment which would have been a nice save.
Lastly, the 2nd Antagonist really had no time to be foreshadowed as hard as the 1st antagonist. He had 1 chapter to appear and do evil stuff, all the while the 1st antagonist hoarded all the spotlight from chapter 1 to 11.
Other than that, this book was quite alright. I would recommend it to newbies who'd like to transition from supernatural books into fantasy.
As an author and reader, I enjoy a wide variety of genres and writing styles, and try to read each with an open mind for different methods of storytelling. Dishonor Among Thieves fits nicely in its fantasy romance category, and the characters and plot lines are definitely intriguing!
Personally, I would have loved more depth in some of the scenes, and a little more clarity in a few spots, but nothing was distracting enough to keep me from reading. In fact, I read most of this novel in one sitting!
Overall, Callie Chase has written a highly entertaining story and begun a wonderful series. I’ve also read her short prequel, Bloodguild, and between the two, I think fans of fantasy romance will be hooked. Callie has created a richly evocative world with enough plot threads and engaging characters to be the best kind of “brain candy” for those nights when you just want to enjoy a tasty treat.
Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin, for allowing me an advanced ebook copy prior to publication. I’m sharing my honest opinions voluntarily, and hope they’re helpful!
Yike, I don't know where to begin. I was really excited for the book. The cover art was amazing, the premise was sublime... but the book itself? Pardon the rhyme, but don't waste your time.
The character motivations made no sense. Our female protagonist, Brex, convinces a vampire to marry her just so he can learn a secret from her and not throw her out? And she keeps saying he has more to gain from it than she does but um... he really doesn't. So the foundation of the entire plot ended up being flimsy and how would getting this job help her with her goal anyway other than getting some coin? It's not like she knows what the job is or how much it pays even! She acknowledges this and just passes it off as "I just want it".
The main male protagonist, Neo, flip flops between badass brooding damaged male and overly affectionate despite no pretext (insta love) and then flips again to being so unreasonably angry with Brex and threatens to lock her in a dungeon for something that is actually outside of our control for once.
The side plot ends up taking up a majority of the book. The actual plot gets shoved aside until a remaining 30 pages in the book and then deus ex machina solves everything.
This girl also instantly hates his friend, who she showed no inclination toward hating before, and tries to make Neo choose between him and her despite, again, NO REASON other than she didn't get her way. She was a manipulative character. Really. She was overly dramatic, foolish, irredeemable, and narcissistic. But of course, she is the mary sue of the book so she solves everything in the end and saves everyone and figures out the riddles and answers to things just based on a hunch.
Also they really did make a 12 year old orphan solve her problem and go through more trauma just because she didn't want to consult her husband for help or devise a plan and was too confident in her own make believe abilities. So she didn't talk to him. But then later, when he does the thing he has adamantly said he would do the entire time and never wavered on, then she flips out at him because he didn't consult her? Seriously?
This character is also made to seem like it has been years that she has had to live on her own and steal and survive. Somehow she's even an expert. Yet she has only been at this for a few days. Lord help me.
The book also feels like a stroke. There were oarts where the tone suddenly jerks. At one point at the end of a chapter she is screaming for Neo to run and I think "Oh, something is chasing him? Or these mysterious creatures mentioned throughout the book that only come out at night are FINALLY making an appearance??" No. Not that at all. Next chapter starts off with them just riding horseback in tense silence. I had to go back and re-read that a couple of times and yet it just felt like a mess. So jarring. And that happens OFTEN in the book.
I saw good reviews for this book but was so utterly stunned by how bad it was. I regret buying it. The grammar was bad and had mistakes scattered throughout and even has a warning in the beginning of the book that if we find any mistakes we should email the author. That's what your editors are for. And if you don't have confidence in their ability then you need to have a conversation with them and discuss this. For all of the beta readers, ARC readers, editors, whatever that apparently went into this, I expected better.
Unfortunately a lesson was learned. Not everything with a pretty cover is worth reading. Gonna go donate my book and call it a day.
“Doing something wrong to accomplish a greater good. Spoken like a true thief.”
Blurb: A vampire with a dark past… Neoruzzi Oderisi wants nothing more than revenge on his nemesis, but the vampire raider who deceived him has vanished. There is only one explanation for Lord Haeloc’s disappearance—dark magic. An orphan thief with forbidden knowledge… Brexia Eloise may have sticky fingers, but she takes care of her own—including a fellow orphan who’s missing. But finding work isn’t easy for a woman on the run with a past full of dangerous secrets. An epic fantasy adventure… Neo will stop at nothing to destroy the threat that keeps his entire family in peril. He doesn’t intend to recruit Brex for the quest, but she has a way of helping herself to everything she wants: Neo’s treasury, his home, and the depths of his scarred heart.
My thoughts: Ok, so when they ask that question "what book keeps you up past bed time?" my answer is usually NOTHING. I love my bed and I love my sleep. But this! It's vampires, anything with vampires will keep me up late reading! And this one! From the immediate action-y start to the buttoned up but ready to go for book 2 end, it had my ENTIRE ATTENTION. The world building was fantastic, the character and their development was super good. And I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't read the summary so when the vampires showed up after I already was planning on giving this a 5* I was *eeeeek* ing? That's a word now... You're welcome! Anyway! Read this book guys! It's on KU! BUT... I honestly wouldn't have picked it up without @katieandbreypa doing a feature on it. So thanks again ladies!! I give Dishonor among thieves by Callie Chase ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A desperate young woman, Brexia Eloise, only hopes to get a meal and a few coins off of handsome stranger, Neoruzzi Oderisi. Instead she quickly becomes entangled with him and will stop at nothing to get the job she shouldn’t know about. When she accidentally stumbles onto one of his secrets she comes up with a plan - marry me; I’ll keep your secrets and you’ll keep mine. Set in a world full of magic and things that go bump in the night, they might just need each other to survive.
I loved these characters! From nearly the first page I found myself rooting for Brex, she’s just so charismatic! Neo is a good match for her, being more cautious and reserved. The vulnerability they allow themselves to feel in each other’s company is beautiful and while the romance takes a long time to turn physical, the feelings are so obviously there.
My only issue with this book is the length! Some of the conflicts and resolutions felt like they would’ve benefited by being drawn out more.
Definitely read this is you enjoy marriage of convenience, found family, and slow burn romance. Dishonor Among Thieves is a closed-door romance with no cliffhanger.
Thank you to StoryOrigin & Callie Chase for the ARC - all opinions are my own.
3.5 ⭐️/5 0.0 🌶️ /5 (maybe some tummy butterflies?) - there’s kissing, nudity, and if there is some alluding to some sexy times it completely flew over my head so I’ll call it closed-door romance.
single POV from FMC - Brex or Brexia Eloise, human sneaky fingers, is on a journey to find her sister and we follow along as she embarks on this quest and meets Neoruzzi Oderisi is the vampire lord MMC who she decides is the person who will help her reach her goal.
world building is what drew me in, and first half I was hooked and could not wait to see what mysteries were uncovered. it’s described as a “romance” though the romance fell more on the fairy tale/insta-love side. We’re told how beautiful and or handsome the FMC and MMC but I never get thorough enough description that I can picture them in my mind.
storytelling involving vampires, trolls, mages, and magic was much more descriptive. I think it was a fun read, wonderful side characters, though I think MMC needed to apologize more for his hot and cold actions mid to later in the story, which is why I knocked off half a star. Also because I need open door, steamy romances scenes (plural) and this book is not that.
How is it possible that SIX people beta’d/edited this book but didn’t pick up on the typos and continuity errors? Or that the climax made no sense? Or that you can’t call a book a slow burn if its… not?
Also… the names all have to sound like they’re at least in the same universe. Italian vampire falls in love with a girl named after a plant but also really close to Brexit and I can’t stand it lmao.
Positives: I still finished this book and I’m STILL going to read the second one because I really like the universe this is set in, and I wanna know more!! Reminds me of the Witcher games.
I loved how sweet the progression of the romance was, I thought he it was really realistic in that the characters were going through traumatic stuff and were like “hey, that’s a lot, maybe we can like snuggle about it” instead of just jumping straight to sex. We love to see intimacy baby!!
I also think the cover illustration is so good, look at that tushie!!! So cute.
I’m really just frustrated because this has the potential to be SO much better. The editors and beta readers and all these fluffy 5 star reviews here really did our girl wrong.
2.5/5 stars. Was going to give 3/5 but the two sentence sex scene at the end killed me. Hurt my feelings, stole my lunch money, ruined my credit. Rude.
Boy, the book had potential but was horrible at it.
The pacing was scrambled. Brex behaved at the beginning like was weeks on the roads, later it is revealed she was maybe a day or two on her own. And that is not the only thing that doesn't add up at the end.
She is super obnoxious and illogical at the beginning (well through the whole book actually, but the first few chapters are the worst), but Neo is impressed? Must be Insta-love/attraction... Also how they behave, they would certainly need more than just 2 days to actually like each other, not to mention love....
The world-building makes no sense. There are monsters at night, and curfews to protect the people (which is shocking for Brex, because?) yet there are no further protections whatsoever! Walls? No. Guards or Soldiers? Nope. Just let the monsters pass by, the can't open doors or something...
The story is illogical too, how Brex behaves, at the end she suddenly has instincts that never failed her (like they did with Gini just 1 chapter ago, but never mind) and other such things...
And where is Neo's thieving?? He raids lost ships and helps making deals and contracts... What's the actual thieving here?
This book is very fast pace and flows nicely. Things aren't too in depth with the world building or character building. I feel like Brexia isn't actually human. Her intuition is way good which makes me think its part of some sort of gift. I'm not sure if this book will have a sequel but I hope it does. I'd like to know of my hunch about Brexia is right. I'm also looking forward to what will happen with the goblins. Also I would like to know more about Sydrian. He's very open and experimental with his work and I think he's got more going on then is told. I'd also like to see him get with Odile. Flynn is really cool and I'd like to see him embrace his role. I feel like this book could be the start to an interesting world and story.
Messy! 1.5 stars. The writing is messy, the characters messy and the pacing is messy. There are some redeemable qualities of this book as I read the whole thing but it’s utterly forgettable. The romance is which from the cover (I know I shouldn’t judge based on the cover but it’s such an alluring cover!!) you’d think would be the focal point of the book, takes a back seat and there’s no tension no evolution of their relationship. It seems to go from strangers to pls help me to I chose you forever.
Sad because the premise and world have such potential but it felt like it was maybe a second draft that needed revisions.
I've just finished dishonor among thieves and well what can I say, I loved it. It draws you in for the adventure and leaves you wanting, no needing more. The raw trauma goes hand in hand with the newfound love that Brex (FMC) stumbles upon. On a journey of survival to get back to her missing sister, Brex does what she must to try to secure a way to get the answers she seeks. No matter the cost. Will her and Neo make honest people out of each other or with the thievery continue..... I recommend greatly to read and find out.
So, I'm not much of a fantasy reader (even though I'm a fantasy-TV-watcher), but I LOVED Dishonor. I think Callie Chase does an excellent job with the world-building, bringing in the reader and also delivering something new and unique. The characters and plot also feel new and unique and loved seeing the two main characters work together in the end. (Seriously, it taught ME skills on teamwork, so thank you for that, Callie.) If you're a fan of stories with found-families, 100 PERCENT pick this book up!
3.5. I really liked this book. I didn't start out with high hopes but I saw it on Instagram while awaiting the release of the new stay a spell series I thought why the heck not. I was pleasantly surprised by the plot and the characters I really enjoyed this read. However I felt like it could have been made into two books or even a trilogy. There was so much more build up that could have been done between Neo and Bex and the challenges they faced. But overall I enjoyed it I just wish I could keep reading!
DNF at 33%. Maybe it's just me not understanding the book, but... why exactly does she want to marry this guy? Aside from the fact that he's hot. What's the benefit in getting married to a vampire a day or two after meeting him, even in her specific situation? They know each other's secrets, shouldn't that be enough of an insurance? Character motivations are unclear, actions sometimes hard to explain. I am all for show rather than tell, but I seriously have no idea what was going on. Which is sad because the concept had a lot of potential.

I was hooked from the start on this epic fantasy vampire romance. I was captivated by Neo, the beautiful, tortured vampire and Brex, the thieving human with secrets of her own. The slow burn romance between Neo and Brex perfectly contrasts with the thrilling adventure and unexpected plot twists that had me gasping out loud and staying up past bedtime to keep turning the pages. I did not want to leave the fantasy world of vampires, goblins and magic, and I am thrilled that I won’t have to because happily, Callie Chase is continuing the series. Whichever characters the next book features, I will follow! Fantastic fantasy!
I picked this up based on a quick skim of the synopsis and that beautiful cover and was pleasantly surprised.
This had all the makings of a really cozy story, but there were a few things missing to bump this up to 4 or 5 stars for me.
Some things to expect:
-Medium paced, quick read -Low stakes fantasy with simple world-building -Fade to black romance scenes (these fell very flat for me) -Marriage of convenience -Reluctant allies to insta-love
The story itself was interesting but I think it would have been even better stretched out into a duology where more of the world-building and character development could be expanded. Overall this was a fun read if something low-stakes and light is your goal.
