Her Vigilante

Rate this book
An FBI agent, the serial killer she hunts, and the deadly string of crimes tying them together.

I’m tired.

Crime scene to crime scene I go, interview upon interview I question, and it all yields nothing but more questions, more media attention, and the sound of a voice on the phone. A voice that haunts me late into the night with a yearning to taste the forbidden.

Some say dreams hold hidden truths. I hope not.

The man the media calls the "Vigilante" is supposed to be my prey, but instead we dance.
Every possible step closer, he evades. Only his faceless taunts close the distance between us. I can barely catch my breath.

Then the copycat killings begin, and I struggle to hold my grip on the truth.

In the face of temptation will I rise, or will I fall?

Am I the saint? Or his angel?

Disclaimer: Her Vigilante is a romance with taboo elements. It is not meant to convey real-life situations. This is not a police procedural.

It deals with violence, death, and unprotected sex.

If you’re a lover of taboo attraction and morally ambiguous heroes, welcome and happy listening!

FBI Agent x Serial Killer romance

He is called The Vigilante because he stalks and kills bad criminals who have escaped justice. She is the agent tasked with bringing him in. But to him she is his avenging angel who he wants to get a glimpse of up close

I fucking loved this. It had similar vibes to the Mindf*ck series by ST Abby but I'd say a little less dark. It was short and sweet, and I loved their romance.

I simply loved this book!!!
It's amazing.
It got everything.

description

Evie is an FBI agent and, with her partner, Jeremiah, they've been chasing the so-called Vigilante.
The thing is, The Vigilante only speaks to Evie.
And Evie is thinking about him more than she should, feeling things she shouldn't for a serial killer, when they talk on the phone.

description

Suddenly, a new murder occurs, with the same M.O. The Vigilant, except now it's the police force the target and not criminals that escape justice.
Evie and Jeremiah don't believe it's The Vigilante work.
And that's when Evie, the straight FBI agent, breaks the rules and calls The Vigilante.

description

A true rollercoaster of emotions on the way.
The Vigilante is obsessed with Evie.
And now, her life is on stake.
Hot, funny, it might be considered gore for some...
And it might have triggers to some people...
Me?
I just loved it.
A soft, dark romance with a lot of surprises, or not so surprising after all.
The author jiggles us between past and present.
We have to pay attention to all the details, or we may find us lost in the story.

I think this book needed to be longer, but what we had was really interesting. 🤔🤔🤔❤

I have always spoken about authors who don't give the opportunity to women to be the badasses in books, that we are in real life. This wasn't the case with Miss Lilian and I highly appreciated it.

We had a woman cop who is after a serial killer that has a Robin Hood vibe, meaning he kills people who have done wrong and have scaped justice. So the dynamic is interesting, people wanted him free because he did good, but no one should play God, right? Well... I wanna hire him for something allright 💅🏻💅🏻

So we had an interesting plot, good characters who had the depth that you could expect from a story so short, hot sex, A BLOWJOB IN AN MF BOOK, they so rarely happen and I never understood why.

So, this was good ladies and gents, real good. 🤓🤓❤

Lillian Lark has such a nuanced writing style. I so appreciate the range and depth of her writing!

FBI special agent Evelyn (Evie) Michaels is hunting The Vigilante, a serial killer who murders the guilty. Evie and her partner, Jeremiah, have an almost father-daughter relationship. I adored the gentle care these two had for each other. Their methods of solving a case aren't always on the up and up, so that's possibly why they get along. That, and the fact that they both have dark backstories that they struggle with daily.

The layers and weaving of this story were so good! I won't get in to any details on the vigilante is because I think it's best to go into the story blind. Begins as a mystery/thriller and turns into a romantic suspense with wonderful tension and steam!
I cry out in relief and ecstasy at the stretch of it. The initial resistance of my body trying to take his forces a groan from both of us. His next thrust has his hips meeting mine and I gasp.
Recommended for fans of the Mindf*ck series and the Dexter books and/or TV show. While it's not as hard-core as those two, it still has flavors of those stories. I really wish this was a longer book. I had so many questions on the character backstories and honestly I enjoyed it so much I just wanted to read more with these characters.

Diving in blind to the book, I found the premise very intriguing. I didn't even read the blurb.

It opens with a crime scene. In fact, I quite enjoyed the opening line:
____________________
"Tell me it isn't you." I don't want to play mouse to his cat
____________________

We're immediately introduced to some of our main characters

Agent Evelyn Michaels
Agent Jeremiah White
The Vigilante

It seems, there's a copycat on the loose. And it also seems, Agent Evelyn is enjoying the voice on the other line a little too much.

I wasn't sure what kind of intensity I was going to get with this story as the introduction could fly either way. Either it would soar high into dangerous and dark territory or glide into some other direction.

I like to be pleasantly surprised.

Seems all of our characters harbor flaws. Of course, some more than others ... hence why a vigilante is on the loose. The snippets of the past are such a small sliver that we're left wading in the dark a bit.. but still left curious. Some pasts are darker than others. But all of these pasts have led our characters to who they are today. Why these flaws are what they are, as we see it.

What does come into light is that all of our main characters have something in common.. compulsions and different crutches they rely on to tame their desires/issues.

[insert scene where you want to take another look at that hot and sexy cover with an aha! moment]

By the time I completed part I, I didn't even realize the story was broken into 2 parts. But it makes sense as it seems we already crested upon one climax to the story and found our way back down.

Come part II, I feel like this almost became somewhat of a ... second chance? somewhat.

All of our main characters have morphed a bit by this point. Things have changed. Things had to be adapted. Truths had to be tackled. Blinders and biases have to be taken off. Where do we go from here?

Remember our direction of flight? It didn't get as dark as I thought it would, but that's not necessarily a bad thing either. Seems the story we're actually getting is a gentle glide across long distances with slight wind turbulences now and again. Like a slow building orgasm from making love rather than a quickie from hot and heavy straight f***ing. Does this make sense?

The story became ..almost sweet. Heart warming at times. Addressing the compulsions we were given a taste of in part I. A growth. A sprout coming out of the dirt, if you may. To bring new life.

By the completion of the book, I found the story ... like a warm fuzzy blanket on a cold winters day, but still being able to get frisky under it with some spankings from cold hands to keep things interesting.

4 stars

*for those who are curious/those who follow my reviews, this book was not even light dark by my standards.*

found this on scribd !! good audiobook but it was a bit rushed :/

it started great and then just was moving too fast & understanding the fmc choices became a bit difficult bc of how fast everything was going !

i think this could have used a few more pages to really tie it together but overall a nice little novella !!

I enjoyed it enough that I’d read more from this author

I love how Lillian Lark changes up the genre with each book she writes, which meant I wasn't too sure what style of writing I was going to get when I opened her newest book Her Vigilante. Suffice to say it was another cracker 🤩.

Without giving too much away, this is a dark romance with a taboo attraction and some other triggers (violence/death, amongst more). Agent Evelyn (Evie) Michaels is a tenacious but flawed FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer known as the Vigilante, with her partner the equally flawed Jeremiah White. The Vigilante will only communicate with Evie directly and there is clearly a connection between them. A connection that becomes something more.

Then a copycat killer strikes and the hunt moves closer to home...

I loved the development of the characters and their arcs throughout the book. The storyline was strong and had more legs. In a perfect world, I would have liked to have seen both the character arcs and the various storylines developed further, but then I generally think most books I read are too short 😁.

It's a 4 ✨✨✨✨recommended read for me.

I will be rereading this very soon because I am so obsessed with it

I think I found the perfect niche mix sub-genre for me!!! It's a crime thriller with a lot of suspense and a solid romance and plot. This is it for me. It is very well balanced between those genres.

Evelyn is a detective chasing a Vigilante. The vigilante only contacts her. One day they discover a copy-cat and they decide to focus on him because he is killing law enforcement officials.

The romance builds up slowly even though it is a short read, for a short read I think the build up is perfect.

I loved the friendship between Evelyn and Jeremiah, it was so endearing and very well put. I loved how flawed the characters were and how they were written

The smut! Holy mother of humans, the smut was something else, I have no idea why I specifically liked it but I just did. It was chef's Kiss, thank you Lillian Lark for this book.

She also gives great romance recommendations on her tiktok!!

PS : Following a reread of this, I love this just as much as I loved it the first time, I am declaring Lillian Lark my queen, her writing and storylines fit perfectly with my reading preferences, absolutely adore her books.

Ooooh, I loved this one and I soooo wish it was a full length novel with a bit more of a build up.

It was a thriller and a hot romance and I was so in for the ride!
And have I mentioned the smut? The smut was good.
And it was so well written.

I want more books like that!!

the first 65% were amazing but the ending was really disappointing and boring. like this could’ve been such a serve if she just joined him in his insanity & made him worse instead of having a little “i can fix him” moment stfu nobody wants to see that

Forbidden attraction

This story has characteristics of a suspense thriller / investigative drama for good part of the book until it changes into to romantic suspense, then largely romance. Icy FBI agent Evie is on the hunt for a serial killer, but somehow in this quest she comes to know the unsub in a way that tests her, even elicits feelings in her, and likewise he is drawn to her. But the adventure is paved in brokenness.

This story was exceedingly well-written. This author has range -- from science fiction, to paranormal, to contemporary romantic suspense. In Her Vigilante, I felt as if I were reading a slice of law enforcement, the day-to-day of the FBI agents' Evie and Jeremiah's partnership, their vices, the agents' begrudging affection for each other, as well as the forbidden feelings for the Vigilante. I loved understanding Evie's brokenness, in bits and pieces discovering the cause, yet seeing her strength on display despite her past troubles. Equally, the hero was portrayed with complexity, also broken, yet a spirit of wonder, warmth, and alpha male gritty darkness. He and Evie's attraction was heart-pumping, fire in temerity; the passion of the love scenes was a mixture of resistant, dominance, and all-consuming surrender. These played like movies in the mind. While not a lot of love scenes, the ones that occurred were fervent and striking and appropriate for this romantic suspense tale. They were absolutely explosive.

I was particularly charmed by all the characters. They were so uniquely appealing, struggling from traumatic pasts. They complemented each other, particularly their individual backgrounds and stories. I was sympathetic to all of them. I experienced all the feels for the hero, one of the most compelling and complex heroes I've read, exuding a range of divergent traits, including and most remarkable to me, tenderness and predatory traits, harmoniously linked.

I didn't find the story dark, nor traditionally taboo, but others might characterize it as such given some of the themes.

My only quip with the storyline was that it took a bit to establish itself. It seemed to take off closer to the halfway point, and by then I believed I was reading a suspense thriller rather than a romance. The romance, though, when it arrived evoked such feeling that I was very moved by the end of the book. Excellent writing, endearing characters, and great story. 4.5 stars

Someone tell me how this FBI X Serial Killer romance, with delectable spice that edges on the darker side, managed to be so sweet.

This story is broken into two parts: the first focuses on FBI Agent Evelyn Michaels working to catch the Vigilante, a serial killer who targets the corrupt. Evie gets tied up with the serial killer and his copy cat and gets into trouble. Then the second part is a second chance romance type of situation. Think pining and turning over a new leaf to get the girl.

This was honestly really enjoyable and I wish it was longer! The premise was enticing and the writing is so good. I've only read one other Lillian Lark work and it's becoming apparent that I really vibe with their writing.

If you're looking for some true crime mixed with some romance, I highly recommend this! It's not as dark as the Mindf*ck series (or as long) but it gets the job done.

It was recommended to me because i loved the mindf*ck series. Obviously it’s nothing like it except the whole serial killer dating an fbi agent thing but the roles were switched and the fbi agent is the fmc and the serial killer is the mmc. I surprisingly enjoyed this, i feel guilty but it was entertaining. But don’t go into it comparing it to the mindf*ck series but it was a cute little fun read!!

okay this is hot caliente and I'm all here for the "dark" elements like romancing a serial killer, but WTF at the ending???😭💔 Seriously, a few months later I was remembering this book with fondness and wondered why I only gave it 3⭐ until I reread my review and got mad at the ending all over again 😂. otherrrrwise this is seriously some 5⭐ quality

An FBI agent in the serial killer and the vigilante serial killer she’s hunting. Yes please.
This had a film noir quality to it. This is the second heroine that I’ve read from her that has that jaded and weary disposition. I loved the sensual cat mouse between them. I also enjoyed that we get multiple POV’s outside of our hero and heroine. This is an amazing audiobook as well.

I wish I had a 3.75 option but 4 stars will work!
This is the first anything i’ve ever read from Lark and It definitely didn’t disappoint! With that though...

Part One was my favorite of the whole book! The second half seemed kind of unnecessary. I loved the back and forth banter of Vigilate/Gene and Evie. I mean the way they exchange heat through the phone and the dreams and desire pulling them together..LOVED! Even down to the wrap up of motel room! Shit was delicious lol. I loved getting to know Jeremiah and poking around in his “life’s issues” with his son and such.

Second part didn’t keep me as much, simply cause I can’t stand when people make life hard because they feel like they deserve it. A lot could’ve been cleared up with a simple conversation between Gene and Evie, so i’m appreciative to both Gloria and Jeremiah for that extra bit of push. I can’t wait to see what continues with Jeremiah and Gloria as well as Marcus and Cass!

Enjoyed!

One thing that intrigues me about this author, is how she switches up genres for every book! Her Vigilante is almost hard to categorise.

As is usual with this author's books - it is well written and edited. This one drew me in right from the start, I love a good serial killer romance!

Part 1 starts off a bit like a thriller...there's FBI and a serial killer and a copycat (oh, my!) And some mystery going on as well. I love how flawed the characters are - it makes them so much more real. And folks, there's some serious steam here, too.

Part 2 is a bit more like a traditional romance - (minus the stalking) with redemption and wooing and declarations of love.

I'm looking forward to the author's next book (and seeing what genre/trope will be next!)

The background story was very much like the Mindfuck series, except the roles were swapped - he was the murderer and she was FBI, but other than that a lot of details matched.

There were definitely less gore details of the murders, and more hot sex which is certainly appreciated 😊

Glad this novella exists so I can back to it anytime without having to read 600 pages.
If it wasn't a copycat it would deserve 5 stars, but now I feel like 4 stars is enough.

P.S. The "Girl chasing guy" shelf is so accurate, although totally different meaning than usual 😂

This was my first Lillian Lark book. I do love a good crime/thriller novel and the blurb had me instantly intrigued. I was drawn into this story from the very first page. Lillian Lark has such a beautiful writing style, she could write a phone book and I would enjoy it.

One of the things I loved about this book was that none of the characters were perfect. They were all flawed in some way or another and they were incredibly well developed.

This was such a thrilling mixture of genres and the plot was excellent. Highly recommend putting this one on your list!

Definitely a genre I don't read often, but I enjoy Lillian Lark's writing. This book is dark and twisted, and like her others, runs along the edge of morality. Flawed characters, hot sex scenes, and an ending that ties up nicely. As you can expect with a vigilante main character, he's someone you feel far too conflicted over!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

2.75⭐️ mostly for the sm*t that i enjoyed. the book was way too short to elaborate on the ideas involved. the writing is good but unfortunately not enough to keep the reader interested because there is little to no suspense until the end. the plot twist was very predictable but what disappoints me most is that the „danger“ and tension between the two disappears too quickly in the second part which then becomes boring again

Lillian is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I’m always so drawn into her stories. I think all her characters are so well thought out and developed. You root for them while they are still deeply fucked up and flawed individuals.

Also the way she writes sex is immaculate. I feel the tension and desire in my BONES.

I’m obsessed to say the least.

Fantastic

When I tell you Lillian knows how to write tension. My god, this book was so good.

I am obsessed with serial killer documentaries and crime shows so I knew I would love this. And it did not disappoint. I loved how it kept me guessing and how the chemistry just *worked* with them. Amazing. Highly recommend especially if you’re a crime junkie!
