I am writing this review in December 2023......
and this book was absolutely, positively my favorite "Unraveling" book of the year.

If you enjoy compelling, well-plotted, and twisty "She's Come Undone" revenge books, this book is a must-read.

Be prepared to question the reliability of multiple unreliable protagonists.

I especially enjoyed the book's two GOL(Gasp Out Loud) twists that I did not see coming.

I listened to the audiobook read by Bronwen Price, who did a superb job with the narration.

5 enthusiastic and shining stars!

I was excited to read this book after previously reading and thoroughly enjoying The Ripple Effect.
Once again, this was a fantastic book with the suspense running from start to finish. I was hooked after the first chapter. It was a definite page turner that I didn't want to put down.
Thus author is fast becoming one of my favourites and one I would definitely recommend.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for this advance read.

By an author I haven't read before, this was a story I found so gripping. Unraveling Alice is packed full of taut storytelling. After being kidnapped Alice comes face to face with her past and the reader learns of this past as the plot develops.
Told in such a skilful way with the timeline flipping back and forward seamlessly. With twists and shocks that I didn't expect that made this a proper page turner.
The main characters were both created so well, each with so many flaws which made me want to hate them but care about them in equal measure.
With an ending I really didn't expect either this is a interesting, fast paced and recommended read.

Riveting psychological thriller that grabbed me and didn't let go until the last page. Fast pacing, excellent characterizations, edge-of-your-seat suspense — this book has it all. Kudos to the author for a story well told.

This story is told in two timelines. From Alice one year previous when she breaks up with her boyfriend because he was cheating. Alice doesn't take it well. And not in a normal "I'm angry and/or depressed" way. But rather in an unhinged way. She finds out who there woman was and starts following her . . . It's also told from present Alice who has been kidnapped by a guy she met and briefly had a crush on.

Crazy. Twisty. Unpredictable. Fast-paced. So good.

One of the best opening chapters of a book, that I have seen in a long long time and completely set the pace of the book.
I can't say too much without giving some of the twists away!
Fast paced, easy to understand with a good amount of twists and turns to keep the plot interesting.
Really enjoyed it, and seemed to fly through it.
Would highly recommend.

I love it when a new author exceeds their debut with their 2nd book. As is the case here. Ms. Cooper blends a dual timeline from the protagonist, allowing us to find out what might be the reasons for the predicament Alice finds herself in. The past catches up with the present, leading to a climax that fully pays off... and a twist.

Both of Ms. Cooper's books so far feature strong female leads struggling to comes to terms with trauma in their lives, perhaps on the edge of paranoia, and I enjoyed this MC's story over Ms. Copper's debut--marginally. Hard call, both books are excellent, and so I can't wait for NA Cooper's new book, The Quiet Space Between Us (which I found at a preorder price of under £1!), dropping soon. If I sound like an advert, well, I'm happy to be so!

The main female character is quite unlikeable, and her inner monologue heavily leans on the side of entitled. Yet when a character one-ups her in entitledness, she dares to judge them. SMH
It was interesting to see a character not being aware (even though it's blatantly obvious). In the end I think the author wanted me to just think there was 1 unlikeable character, but yet again I dislike everyone,

Unravelling Alice is the story of Alice from a year ago and into present days life. The past brings together the events of todays life and the situation she now finds herself in. The flipping between past and present is seamless unlike some stories where you have to think about where your at with the storyline.
Alice went through a traumatic time which lead to the meltdown of her life and compelled her to act in a way she didn’t recognise but the picture becomes clear when answering her question of “why” with dramatic consequences and some cleared up confusion. Easy read and enjoyable story to follow.

I greatly enjoyed this novel, the first I have read by this author.

It starts with a bang when Alice stops at a roadside gas-and-eat place because of traffic congestion. She had noticed a man with a laptop sitting near her. He returns to the parking lot at the same time she does. Before she realizes what is happening he snatches her, ties her up and places her in his car. As they are driving to some unknown destination she hears thumping from the trunk and wonders what is afoot.

Alice is placed in a secure warehouse room where she is joined by her ex-finance Jaime. Then the story follows two timelines-the present and a year earlier. A year earlier Alice and Jaime were living together. Then they split after Alice accuses Jaime of cheating on her based on suspicion about his frequent unexplained absences. Jaime leaves.

Alice decides to pursue the woman he is spending time with. Alice becomes a stalker and befriends the woman in question. This does not end well.

Alice has made a grievous mistake but does not realize this until Jaime explains some things to her while they are held captive. To say more would spoil the intricacies of the plot.

Just before the novel concludes we, who think we now understand everything, are dealt a major blow to the solar plexus.

I guarantee you will enjoy the twists and turns of this story.

An interesting thriller. Poor Alice has had a hell of a year. She lost her job, her parents died in a plane crash and now her fiancé tells her he’s in love with someone else. What else can she do but stalk her rival?

Told in two timelines, one a year ago and one now. The year ago details Alice’s stalking. The now has Alice being kidnapped with her ex fiancé in the trunk of a car.

It was a compelling novel. I’m only giving it three stars vs four because, yes there was a big twist, but no I didn’t like it. It was kind of a letdown.

•••Unravelling Alice by N.A. Cooper // 2.5 out of 5 stars•••

This story was told in two different timelines, one from a year ago and one in current day. I’m not sure that all the jumping around did this story justice. The concept was interesting, but the execution was incredibly underwhelming. On top of the random grammatical errors and plot holes, the ending was extremely absurd and disappointing.

Usually when I start a book I read the first chapter and then go back to it the next day. This book I ended up reading 25% of the book in one go which is something I rarely do.

The Book tells the story of Alice through two timelines which I normally dislike but it worked for this book. The first time!one from a year ago where She has split from her boyfriend after he admits to an affair. Alice does not take it well especially as it happens so soon after the death of her parents, so she sets about trying to find out who it is, she then starts following her, joining the same running club and making friends with her. The second timeline, the present, Alice meets a man at a service station after they both take a break to avoid the huge traffic jam, they spend a nice time together and on the way back to their respective cars he kidnaps her. Who is the mystery man and is he connected to what happened a year ago and what does he plan to do to her?

Great twist at the end which I didn't see coming.

My Rating Style: 1⭐️ ticked no boxes, plot hole city WHAT THE HECK WAS GOING ON???

Unlike me but this review is going to have spoilers - if you want to read this then please don’t read my review as per previous spoiler warning!!!

I am not going to do a full synopsis because this book was ridiculous and the synopsis on GoodReads covers most of what you need to know.

Alriiiiight…. What in the world of plot hole central was going on in this book!!! Let’s start with the writing, that was fine, even quite good in parts. I had no trouble keeping up with the timeline change because we all know I love the swap and change. All of the POV was from Alice and boy oh boy was she a complete and utter pain in the backside!!! But more on her later. I was a bit annoyed that their wasn’t more of the timeline switches sometimes we would have the Now chapters 3 or 4 times in a row and then we would have One Year Ago chapters for one single chapter and I won’t like (because why would I) this was the best bits for me… that is saying something because they weren’t great.

So - Alice - WHO THE F IS ALICE - well I will tell you. A whinging, annoying, crying STALKER. A big old fashioned stalker with serious issues. Alice has had a rough time of it granted…. Parents killed in a freak accident, brother ups and moves away never to be heard from again, no explanation as to why so I question why it was even put in the book to begin with, her ex-finance is now her ex… he cheats on her…or so Alice is told by him. But according to her she knew about it and was happy for him to sleep with another woman so long as he came home to her… girl who are you kidding no one is happy with that and if you are… you have literally given up.

She is the ultimate unlikable character and that is totally fine that we have unlikeable characters and we have them in spades in this book BUT you are supposed to feel bad for Alice. You are supposed to sympathise with her… I couldn’t, she was a bit of pig living in the mess she created, she shut her kind and loving best friend out but complained no end about being alone AND SHES A MASSIVE STALKER.

Alice starts to stalk her ex’s new girlfriend Lydia, (well thats who she thinks she is… is she well… who knows) but seriously there doesn’t seem to be an end game for stalking her, she honestly just goes on and on for pages about what the new woman is doing, how beautiful she is, why she understands her ex Jamie, leaving her for this woman… jeez lady are you crushing hard or what!!!

Then she JOINS HER RUNNING CLUB ok psycho not only is running for psychos anyway but don’t do that sh*t hey. That is whack…. Cut to the current day and the ex and Alice get kidnapped by a rando guy that she has coffee with after a traffic jam… she contemplates how he could have found her cause it was a random stop and she has a caramel latte and shes getting her computer out - JESUS ALICE SHUT UP….

Turns out said beautiful, running Lydia is dead and this guy is her actual husband and he wants answers…. Well we get a whole lot of nothing… this happened and that happened, bribery happened, I wasn’t having an affair… oh you’re a coward Jamie… why did you kill her Jamie… I didn’t kill her etc etc etc…

I wont totally spoil it but if you are still reading at this stage I am going to RUIN THE ENDING… SO PLEASE DON’T KEEP READING….

The ending was the stupidest thing I have read for a long time… Alice ends up doing a marathon that Lydia was signed up to do, ANNNNNNNNND Lydia’s husband is there cheering her on… yes you read that right the guy that kidnapped her and blamed Jamie and Alice for his beautiful wife’s death… is there cheering on Alice - And he knew she was stalking his wife - no worries though, oh but why you ask… ONLY THAT THEY ARE TOGETHER… GTFO - because if the twist that was supposed to shock the world wasn’t obvious enough dun dun duuuuuuun Alice Killed Lydia oooooh AS IF THAT WASN’T GOING TO HAPPEN… so we get that in a flash back after some lame excuse as to why Lydia’s husband is now dating stalker Alice NOOOOO ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

This was so obvious to me… it was written all over the walls in blood and stalker goo!!! This was stupid and I hated it and it made me angry… I don’t know if you can tell 😂

There are so many plot holes too… we get characters that pop up for no apparent reasons who we never see again, we get pages and pages on Alice’s work in Human Resources no less… but that goes no where either… really the entire book goes no where except the only place I was expecting… it could have been three pages long and still gotten to the same ending…

Overall… I suspect you know I would not recommend this to anyone… but I am sure people will like it (no shade to you I am clearly emotional about this) so if I haven’t actually spoilt it for you by now then check it out but if you asked me with a gun to my head I would say absolutely not save your bullet please!!!

i have mixed feelings about this book.
firstly, i have a personal vendetta against nonlinear narrative, so i was frustrated with most of the story, mainly because i didn't care about the flashbacks in the beginning, and after a while i just wanted to be done with them.
secondly, a good majority of the middle of the book was such a drag to get through (and this is while listening to the audiobook, can't imagine how it would've been reading it). i'm sorry, but alice was an annoying bitc-- i mean character lol. i understand her motives to a point, but god, that doesn't excuse how boring they were.
like, i don't actually care about all the clothes she bought because of lydia (had to look up her name lol i forgot). i don't care about the pitiable excuses she gives her boss, or her messy house, or the running club. i've finished the book a few days ago, so i don't fully remember all the scenes, but i do remember thinking a couple of times: "why was this included?" or "could've done without this scene".
ALSO, i fucking CALLED the plot twist so early in the beginning. (not the final plot twist, but the one alice finds out). predictable.
with these being said, literally the last part of the story was what saved this book from an even lower rating. you got me there, author, didn't expect that. probably because alice needed just a bit more madness to be able to pull that off, but alas. i think i just prefer my mad characters a bit more mad than this weak ass shit alice pulled.
i also side eye charlie for his choice at the end. i'm trying very hard not to spoil it, but wtf are you doing my man, what were the mental gymnastics for you to end up where you ended up?
this was a book for boring people to read to feel a little less boring while imagining their boring villain arc.
side note: apparently alice had a brother? who knew? good thing we were there for the whole time alice bought a new laptop tho.

Unraveling Alice is in short a story about a woman trying to manage after a difficult breakup. In an exaggerated sense, it is a story about one person trying to out crazy another person.

Alice loses her parents in a freak accident. As to be expected, she does not handle this well and starts to drift into a depression. In the midst of this depression, she ends a relationship with a spouse due to infidelity. Again, this makes her spiral further into depression. As a way to cope, she starts stalking his new girlfriend. This goes as one would expect these things to go. Yet, we only learn about all of this from flash backs of Alice's life.

At the present moment, we see a healthier and happier Alice. She no longer seems in a funk about her parents' death, her failed relationship, or her awful job. She actually seems quite happy with her new job and excited to meet a new guy. Until, said new guy kidnaps her.

Why would this perfectly nice and handsome stranger, that she has never met before, kidnap her? This question seems to be the focus of the book despite the fact that we should have been asking why is Alice wasting so much of her time trying to get close to "her replacement" that she ignores all the red flags behind what she is doing.

Unraveling Alice was a quick read. It absolutely keeps you engaged and intrigued. You become quite engrossed into Alice's actions that you are almost willing to overlook the absurdity of her behavior. The climax provides an absolute shock that you would not ever be close to guessing would happen. From here, things just get even more interesting and complex. I was completely floored by the end. The shock factor and the wow factor is great and would lead me to recommend to others.

4 stars. This book was a ride. I listened to the audiobook on Everand. This follows Alice, told in two timelines. One "now" and one "one year ago".

Alice's ex fiancé Jamie is involved as well, and the past timeline follows her "unravelling" after the breakup of their relationship and how it led them to where they are today.

I will say that the plot twists were great, and it withholds just enough information where you don't guess what's going on, but gives you enough that you feel you like the ending is bogus.

I will say, the "now" timeline moves slowly in the first part of the novel. Alice gets kidnapped in the first chapter, and too many chapters after that are just her and the kidnapper in the car. It took too long in that timeline to get where they were going and get to the point.

All in all, an unhinged thriller.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, from the minute I picked up the book the very first chapter had me hooked and I couldn't put it down until I had finished the book. Alice stops at a service station as there was a crash on her way to work with long tail backs as she is working a man approaches her asking for a laptop charger they get into a conversation as they are waiting on the backlog to clear. When they are leaving the man pulls a knife and tells Alice she needs to go with him.

The book then goes back to one year ago when we find out that Alice has destroyed all her boyfriend's things for cheating on her, we find out the event of the year up to the abduction.

I dont want to give too much away it definitely is a brilliant read I highly recommend this book.

I read this entire book thinking to myself over and over that Alice is a fool. She falls apart when her boyfriend leaves her and begins stalking the woman that Alice thinks is his new love. When she finds out the real story behind his interest in this woman, I was taken completely by surprise.

This was set in two time periods: a year ago and now. I forgot constantly that it moved through the time periods but when the time shift happened, it seemed comfortable and the story flow wasn’t disrupted.

I liked this despite wanting Alice to wise up. Then I wanted Jamie to man up and for a very long time I never could figure out how Charlie came into the story. Good book even though I had to slow down and think a few times to follow the storyline.

This was a new author for me, the blurb grabbed my attention and I had to read this book! Did it ever grab my attention from the first page to the last. Alice couldn’t catch a break at home or at work where everyone seemed to be against her. When her fiancé Jaime leaves her she is obsessed with finding out who he left her for and why. This obsession leads her down a road of destruction that ends in an action packed climax which will leave you in a state of astonishment. I will start following this author on Goodreads and will seek out other books she has written.

I really enjoyed this book and am grateful to Bloodhound books for sending me an advanced copy to read and review.
Two timelines now and a year ago run side by side telling the story who a year ago was struggling after her fiancé left her, and now has been kidnapped by a man she met in a service station.
While I suspected the connection, a few twists particularly towards the end still shocked me which is a good thing. I would thoroughly recommend this, and will look out for more by this author

Alice and Jamie have been a couple for a while. He was there for her when both her parents died suddenly in an accident and other life changes. But things aren't so good between them now. They have a fight and Jamie leaves. Alice follows him and finds out he's been cheating on her with another woman. Then Alice is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned building. But she is not alone. Jamie has also been kidnapped and left there with her. The reason will surprise you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The blurb of the book grab my attention and the book didn't disappoint. But even as the blurb talks about a kidnapping what it really goes on is a stalking, nevertheless the book grab me from page one and iy was hard to put it down until I finish reading it.
The story flows seamlessly between two timelines, blending Alice past and present and giving the reader a full story of her life.
Some of the twists really took me by surprise, which is a good thing, since it made the book unpredictable and more enjoyable to read.
This won't be the last book I will read from this author.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that had me turning pages fast. The characters pull you into their world from the start and kept me engaged to the end. They are storn, connectable characters that I really enjoyed. They have great growth throughout the story which made the story easy and entertaining to read. This is a story you don't want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

This sounded like it was gonna be so good, I was really looking forward to it. I started it immediately after I just happened across it. Unfortunately, it was kind of a letdown.

I don't mind when books tell a story in two different timelines, but the majority of this story is told in flashbacks which weren't all that interesting. I assumed the fact that she got kidnapped would take up a good portion of the novel, but it really didn't. We barely got anything from that until about 70 percent through the book, at which point both characters annoyed me and the twists fell flat.

Another fantastic page turner from NA Cooper. I loved ripple effect and this had the same suspenseful edge to it with a very different twist to anything I’ve read before that I did not see coming. The ending left me very satisfied and had some very clever writing (in a dark way). I whizzed through the book in a little over a day and I already can’t wait to read the next one. Would definitely recommend and I really can’t wait to see what this author does next!

The blurb describes this as a kidnapping story, but it is really more of a stalking story. The kidnapping portion was a very small percentage of the book but it was my favorite part. It was suspenseful and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. There are alternating timelines with the majority of the story taking place a year before the kidnapping. I expected this to be predictable. Some parts were, but there were definitely twists I didn't expect. A quick and entertaining read.

Thanks to Bloodhound books and the Author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book by this author. The story centres around Alice who has recently split from her fiancé and he cheated on her. The story flips from the present day to 1 year ago and covers the events to the situation she finds herself in today with her abduction.
An easy to read, fast past books with lots of twists and after the first chapter you are hooked.
