Valley So Wild: A Folk History by Alberta and Carson Brewer (East Tennessee Historical Society 1975)(917.68). This volume was penned by a local husband and wife writing team. Carson Brewer is a much-beloved local hiker, storyteller, author, and newspaper columnist whose folksy ways and whose interest in old time mountain lore make him a popular read here in East Tennessee. This book explores the watershed that drains the Great Smoky Mountains beginning in upper east Tennessee near Johnson City all the way through the park and its environs. It is a worthy addition to the Great Smokies library. My rating: 7/10, finished 2005.
