The poems in My body and I share the same name tell the story of what it is to live in the body of the author. C.A. Singh details how the body carries experiences, traumas, and mental illness through personal reflection and storytelling, recounting experiences of abuse, love, struggle, and simple moments of everyday life. This book follows the body into childhood and early adulthood and paints a portrait of the author's life, bringing the reader in close to share secrets, struggles, and triumphs.
"But for now, I am perpetually pushing the furniture in my bedroom around in circles as if this heavy act of change and motion could hurl me into a new orbit."
-from 'He vanished from my bedroom in winter, and now it is winter again'
I am currently re-reading this to review it more thoroughly, as it deserves. It's a lot to take in. And I felt it in my soul. Wonderful collection. Extremely vulnerable and confessional with plenty of emotional scabs peeled off and all the uglies exposed for the sake of growth. Very much recommended. 4 1/2 stars.
My Body and I Share the Same Name is full of powerful and emotional poetry. I was offered early access to this book and the stories that are told in here are tear jerking but inspirational. This author has captured my heart in ways that I didn't expect picking up this book. I look forward to reading future books from them.
