I consider it as Divine blessings of Lord Ganesha that I happened to finish reading “Stories of Ganesha” by Dr. Shubha Vilas, when Ganesh Chaturthi is just around the corner (19-Sept-23). This is my third book by Dr. Vilas. After having read The Little Blue Book on Krishna and Hanuman Chalisa, I got fascinated with Dr. Vilas’s simplistic yet powerful narrative.

I remember categorically that even as a child there was something fascinating (yet indescribable) that I saw in Ganesha’s idol, which, attracted me to Him. He has been my favourite deity ever since. In addition to gracing the small mandir I have at home, Ganesha’s idol also adorns my office desk and the dashboard of my car. I try not to forget to foremost seek Ganesha’s blessings before embarking on any new adventure - be it personal or professional.

This book (like the other two I read) captivates the readers attention. It has been divided into three sections:

Section 1: Stories of Ganesha - 32 stories handpicked from various Puranas and Folk tales.

Section 2: Stories of Ganesha Temples - 10 stories of temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The mystical story behind each temple will leave you awestruck.

Section 3: Ganesha Prayers - 5 powerful prayers that glorify Lord Ganesha and bestows wealth, prosperity, wisdom, success, and good fortune to the worshiper.

While reading this book, I was reminded several times of the TV serial, ‘Vighnaharta Ganesh’ that was aired on Sony Entertainment television back in 2017.

This set of three books (on Krishna, Hanuman and Ganesha), immaculately bound in deluxe silk will remain amongst my most prized possession.

Stories of Ganesha by Shubha Vilas is an enlightening collection of forty-two stories related to Lord Ganapati. The tales mentioned in this book on Bhagwaan Ekdanta tell us about the meaning of his various names, some important temples related to Ganesha Ji, and various mantras of Gajananan and their meanings. A good book for the devotees of Lord Ganesha.

Stories were good. Some stories were repetitive. But some particular events have different retellings like How lord Ganesha got his elephant head.
Stories about different Ganesha temples were interesting too. Overally a good read!
