But We're Bros! #14

The Road Trip

Rate this book
Sharing a tent with your bro on a road trip is bound to be a good, hard, fun time

My frat bros and I decided to delay adulthood by one more month after graduation and take a great American road trip. We all love to camp and don’t mind bargain motels, so it was set to be fun and cheap. I didn’t think Jason’s insatiable nature would be an issue. He’s the kind of guy that needs it all the time and has an ever-growing list of female friends who love to spend the night. He’s also six feet of solid ex-jock muscle with a hairy chest, incredibly handsome face, and the kind of voice that can melt steel.

Early in the trip, we arrived too late at our motel, and they only had one room available. Doug and Mark shared a bed, and I shared one with Jason. It wasn’t a big deal until I woke up to the bed slightly shaking. I was already in the mood from the dream I was having, but knowing what Jason was doing next to me took it to a whole other level. I pictured him next to me alone – and then us together. Even if it did go against my cardinal rule to never be into my friends that way, I couldn’t help but join in. He didn’t seem to mind.

Now I’m worried about the rest of the trip. Not only will I be driving clear across the country with Jason and our two other best friends, but we’re supposed to share a tent. The one we got is so small we might as well be cuddling. My private plans for this trip are already difficult. I don’t see how I can manage them while keeping down a different kind of tent every time I sleep next to Jason. I hope it doesn’t make the trip, or myself, harder than it has to be.

Heath Grayson writes erotic fiction featuring men who've just found out there may be more to life than they ever imagined. His debut series, But We're Bros!, depicts guy friends crossing lines that bros typically don't. Heath is fascinated by the quiet moments between men, how a single stare, repeated joke, or the simple brush of a hand can turn into something much more. The first time with your good bro can change your world.

I don't know how he does it, but it's as though Heath is reading pages from my past. :^)

I really don’t know why I’m reading these. They’re so cheesy, but there are some moments that are so good I really want to read something from this author when they take the subject matter seriously.

I wasn’t going to read this one, mostly because Iike older MCs, but I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed it!

Some beautiful scenes in this book. I like when Grayson gets his characters out in the open air and on the road. Something magical always happens.

Adam is on a cheap, month-long tour of the US after graduating college. Before they settle down into adulthood with further schooling or jobs, his jock-frat pack want to have a last blast. Adam is joined by Jason (the jock womanizer), Mark (the finance whiz) and Doug (the car guy who's supplying their vehicle). The four plan to drink and drive from campground to cheap motel and see the sights. Adam hopes to use this time to come out to his close friends. But he's interrupted one night by waking up to Jason jerking off. This sets off a chain of events where he spends a few days obsessing about his bro... sexually.

Of course when he does come out to the guys, it's cool. Or at least until Jason confesses privately to Adam he's been so horny that he would be very cool if Adam gave him head. Which Adam enthusiastically accepts. Then Jason wants to get into the act, going down on Adam. This leads to a couple weeks of the two horny frat boys having a series of hook ups across the country, with their other frat buddies seemingly unaware.

I don't know about this one, it's the bro-iest of cliches: frat boys being bros. And nearly every other page is a "Bro" and a "Bro" there... It got kind of old real fast. The characters weren't really very well developed either, particularly the narrator himself. Some of the sex was okay but then they fall into another cliche when they go into pages of wanting to explore Adam's anal cherry: they forgot condoms and have to "trust" each other, just so they go bareback. And that scene.... oh boy.

Not the author's best. 2 stars.

I honestly I had no expectations going into this. Grayson is a new to me author. But since it was only a little novella I thought I'd try it out. And you know what? I actually really enjoyed it.

I wanna point out that this story will not work for everyone. Heck this won't work for a lot of people. I know that the word bros is in the title not once but twice! However, there is knowing they are bros and KNOWING.

These guys are ex-jock, frat, dude-bros. Their vocabulary and immature antics fall in line with that.

But I guess I was just in the mood for something light hearted and steamy and that's what this was. It's probably more like a 3 star read but I'm feeling generous today and it is kinda sweet toward the end. One thing I really wish it had was an epilogue. I would have liked to get even just a little glimpse of their future. But oh well.

Hm. I am so here for it and also so not.

I like that it was a quick read. It was straight to the point and gave enough details throughout that you didn't ever feel like you didn't know what was going on or why something was being mentioned. But it wasn't so detailed that it surpassed being a novella and into being a novel. There was playful banter, there were sexy times (many, many sexy time), there was romance, there were some very sweet heart-to-hearts, and there was even a little bit of tension there for a moment. I love that it was quickly resolved with no third-act breakup.

You know what there was also A LOT of? The word "bro". Seriously though, it was said at least 50 times throughout the book. I get it, the whole premise is "bro-dudes" but good god, it was too much. It became extremely cringe when they would say it while being intimate or romantic. Like, I don't know about you, but don't call me "bro" while you dick is in me. No? Just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Also, the dialogue when they were fucking had me CRAKING UP. It wasn't sexy. It was so cringe it was funny. Don't believe me? Think I'm being ridiculous? Try reading their sex scenes out loud. Repeat their dialogue out loud and tell me you don't make a face.

With all that being said, I enjoyed the author's writing style and will read more of his books.

3.5 stars. Emotional erotica. At one point I even teared up, so I give it props for that. My problem lies at about the 81% mark and beyond. When the “love” stuff gets involved. Too cheesy for my personal taste. I’m a grinch though. I don’t want my own partner saying cutesy things like how much he loves me blah blah.

Oh and this book needs an editor.

But other than that, I did enjoy myself. Short, sweet, and emotional. I’d probably read more in this series. Always nice to find gay books by gay authors.

road trips can be great.

I am new to this author, this is the second book I have read. I have liked both of them and know now there will be a 3rd or more. Well written and enjoyable story about 4 guys on a after graduation road trip. People can find love in the most unexpected places and the road trip is no exception. Maybe it actually helps. Read and enjoy

Another awesome Heath Grayson book!

What a great read! Four buddies out of college seeing America together. One comes out, another one is happy and willing to help him navigate some of what being gay is about. Every good romance has its ups and downs and their friendship is put to the test. I’m big on the HEA stories and this one does not disappoint!

Another great short about bros realizing they're in love. This is longer than some of his other efforts and that allows the relationship space to develop in a believable way. As always, it is hot and surprisingly emotionally resonate. Grayson is great at this.

3.5 stars.
Theyre very much "bro" in the way they constantly speak and think. It was a tad off-putting, but I kept telling myself that they just left college, it's fine.
It's a good start and not bad for a fast, smut filled, story.

interesting read

Jason & Adam story had some twist and turns. Their friends reaction to their relationship was a breath of fresh air. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

Someone on booksta recommended this today & I thought that a novella would be perfect as I was between books. I was really surprised that a novella could actually pack in so many feels! Definitely enjoyed.
