Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for the gift of an early copy. Below you'll find my honest review.

This one was INSANE. It was a total rollercoaster, and completely shook the world of the Hollows, down to the very last words. It had demons, weres, witches, pixies, vampires, politics, danger, love, family, death, and sooo much more.

And the way this one set up for the next one? Let's just say I'm not pleased to have to wait!!! I need it NOW!

Highly recommended, but also not recommended if you're jumping in here. There is WAY too much history in this one that won't make sense without reading the series. If you haven't read this series yet, why not? Get started!!

I don’t always write reviews but this book has me questioning one of my favorite UF series 😞

This book has all the things I love about the series- action, spell crafting, demons, humor, ALL the beloved side characters and more. So what happened?
Rachel happens and I swear she loses more brain cells every book. She is so frustratingly stupid and naive throughout the book it’s like books 4-13 were erased. Why does she suddenly have all this trust for a certain character?!?? Why would she think that it would be okay to take Trent’s kids on a play date when baddies were hunting her every move?🤨 Rachel’s “poor me” is way beyond old, especially at book 17!!

It’s like the Hollows and all of the characters have grown but Rachel is stuck or every other book regresses. Two steps forward .. five steps back

I’m not even going to comment on the relationship stuff because it’s just 😐

Maybe I’m just having a bad day and upon reread I will feel differently but for now 2 stars

Ah, there it is: one of my comfy blankets.

We're back in the Hollows with Rachel, demon sub rosa of Cincinnati. But not all is well in the town after she has vanquished Al's brother because suddenly some weres go completely nuts and the witch council is nagging her (threatening with locking her up in Alcatraz again) and Rachel's friends are being targeted. Turns out, those crazy weres are not above killing their own kind and their leader REALLY hates Rachel. The problem is that they have magical help from a mysterious mage.

It was soooo nice seeing Jinx and Biss again. I love these two. Sure, the comfy relationship between Rachel and Trent is nice as well, especially when now taking into account the two girls, too, but it's always been the supporting characters that are my favorites.

And the baddies were superb here. I can't quite decide what I liked best: the all-out baddies or the bureaucrats trying to capitalize on a bad situation instead of working with Rachel for everyone's benefit.

I also enjoyed Rachel's further development, character-wise. I always thought she was too squeamish when it came to teaching those that wanted her friends and family dead a lesson. Well, it looks like she's coming into her own now, and in creative ways to boot. Just like her relationship with "uncle Al" is blossoming (yes, it's adorable how he is with Lucy and Rae).

So yes, very nice story with high stakes for some of the people in here and rather wonderful magic.

While I always enjoy a jaunt back to the Hollows and all the people - I rarely like Rachel.

There's a part of me that wished this series had ended with 13 as planned. It was a satisfying end to the series, for the most part.

Diving back into the Hollows is fun - but Rachel is still the same whiny, clueless, self-centered, dumbass she was in book 1. Like all the character development, growth, and wisdom she gained through 1-13 has just gone *poof*.

Also, I swear by Pete the Dragon, if the author I will never forgive her nor read another of her books.

I could’ve used more demon action, but I still really enjoyed this book!

At book 17 in the Hollows series, Harrison hasn’t lost any steam, and in fact only seems to be getting stronger. There’s such a depth to her characters and world at this point that I feel more connected to them than any others in the genre. The series has a slow-burn plot - she takes her time, she lays the groundwork, and she builds momentum in a way that felt unparalleled until the most recent Dresden releases.

This series is all about celebrating amazing side characters and fun creatures. It’s so creative! I especially love the demons. Enigmatic, moody, self-serving, and delightfully unpredictable – as all good demons should be. I appreciate that they haven’t lost any of their poignancy as the series progressed.

And the spellwork!! For a series about a witch, there’s actually a ton of practicing magic. The spell crafting is detailed, complex, and highlighted often. I love learning about magical things in any context, and this series hits that craving beautifully. This particular installment didn’t highlight it as much as usual, but it was still good.

That said Demons of Good and Evil felt like a bridge novel. It tied up a bunch of loose ends and set the stage to come for one of my personal favorite story threads to finally get a moment… it’s going to be so good. I don’t actually know how many books are planned (or even if there’s yet a set number), but it definitely feels like we’re building towards one hell of a series-culmination banger of a ending. Book 18, “Demon’s Bluff” already has a cover and is slated for October 22, 2024. And she even has a new series-starter, “Three Kinds of Lucky” of the Shadow Age series that came out March 5th. All I’m saying is, I love Harrison – she’s such a trusted author that I’ll be devouring ANYTHING she chooses to write. Auto-buy status: MVP.

Overall, if you’re into a slow-burning, character-driven series that gradually builds to neck-breaking excitement that will knock your socks off… this might be a great pick. It shares a lot of the same attributes as some of my favorite high-fantasy works, which is doubtless why I like it so much.

Recommendations: You can either start the series with Dead Witch Walking -> a great story with just the barest glimmers of the amazingness to come (be patient), or even start with The Turn, a prequel novel that highlights the author’s skills beautifully while also plumping up the world-building and laying the foundation for the entire series. Love.

Thank you to my Patrons: Dave, Katrin, Frank, Sonja, Staci, Kat, Betsy, Eliss, Mike, and Elizabeth! <3

This was fantastic! I loved getting the chance to spend a little bit of time with Rachel, Trent, Jenks, and the rest of the gang. Trouble always seems to find Rachel and there is someone determined to get their hands on the focus and “The Mage” is causing trouble at every turn. This installment was just as exciting as I had hoped it would be which kept me glued to the pages.

This is the seventeenth book in The Hollows series which really should be read in order since each book builds on the preceding events. It seemed like Rachel was in the middle of trouble every time she turned around in this book. The werewolf community is at odds and certain individuals will stop at nothing to get their hands on the focus. Rachel is framed for the murder of an important coven member. And the vampires are threatening to send in a new master vamp. I was confident that Rachel would be able to work things out in the end but it didn’t look good for a while. There was plenty of action and enough mystery to keep things really exciting in this installment.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Marguerite Gavin did a great job of bringing this story to life. She has become the voice of these characters over the course of the series and I love how consistent she is with the various voices. I find her voice incredibly pleasant to listen to and had no problems listening to this book for hours at a time. I do believe that her narration only heightened my enjoyment of this book.

I would definitely recommend this series to others. This is a group of characters of very likable characters that have grown on me over the course of the series. The ending of the book has left me very eager to see what might happen next!

I received a review copy of this book from Berkley Publishing Group and Penguin Random House Audio.

Ughhhh come on Rachel get your act together and be an actual bad ass, not a floppy hot mess. We all saw that it was Lee a mile away. And about Vivian. Grr. And that ending was bullshit, leave the past in the past. This would have gotten one star if not for Gally. And Trent.

I love this series, the first round of books was just perfect, but since the revival I feel like it’s fallen flat. Little to no growth in the main character while everyone around her grows and changes.
The big bad being Lee was telegraphed from the first mention of him being in town and left no big reveal for the reader.
I want to keep reading this series but I feel like it’s failing to mature with its audience.

This book had all of the elements that fans expect from this series. There is danger, magical fighting, strain between factions, lots of spell work, life or death situations for Rachel and her partners, multiple last minute rescues, etc. It’s fast paced with plenty of intense situations.

As much as I enjoy this series, there are a couple things that I’m not a big fan of. One of Rachel’s more annoying traits is the way she she says “it’s all my fault” regularly in a way that makes her seem like she is the victim and needs to throw herself a pity party. What makes this especially annoying is that she never learns from her mistakes. Literally never. So… whatever mistake she made in this book that led to the death of a character will not teach her anything. She will live to blame herself another day. While I’m not a fan of this, I am used to it and expect it. Rather than letting it irritate me, I just roll my eyes and read on. If you are considering starting this series, that is something you’ll need to be prepared for.

If you’ve missed David and the werewolves since Harrison revived this series, this book will reconnect you to the world of the weres. They play a primary role in the first half of this book. This includes both old and new villains from the werewolf world.

There is also a mysterious mage who is terrorizing the werewolves and stirring up trouble throughout the city. While Rachel spends a significant amount of time trying to figure out who the mage is, I thought it was pretty easy for readers to figure out since we are only given one real option. I wish the answer had been more of a surprise.

The last notable thing that occurs is in the last few sentences of the book. It is a foreshadowing moment for the next book. All I can say about it is… please no! Don’t bring that character back!!!

After the events of Trouble with the Cursed, Rachel is still having troubles with jumping ley lines. She has a mouse living in her church and cannot access Holden’s quarters. However, all of this will pale in comparison when wolves and a Mage come into town. She’ll have to save her spelled friend, unlock a curse and stop the Mage from framing her before the DC vampires come to reclaim the city.

Poor Rach. Never a dull moment for this witchy demon. As always, I slipped right into the story and was delighted to see Trent, Jenks, Al, Ivy, and all the characters I love in this series. For new readers, I recommend starting from the beginning. After all, you’ll want to know about the tomatoes, the relationships, Rachel and more. Not to mention a bombshell that was dropped at the end of the book.

Harrison gave us quite the tale and tied it to previous characters and circumstances. We’ll learn a little more about Rachel and Trent’s childhood, enjoy some tender moments, and kick some ass. It was bliss!

The world and characters are fantastic. The pacing and build up make it unputdownable. You’ll see some new tricks, worry about Al and see growth in Rachel. I am curious about the changes that occurred, and the reveals. Once again, Harrison has me drooling for the next book.

I’ve left this spoiler free and if you haven’t read the series, I highly encourage you to do so. You’ll carry these characters with you, and quote them. I’ve laughed, cried, gotten angry and called out sick on release day. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

It sorta feels like this one can be divided into 2 parts. The parts with the were's and the parts where people are coming after Rachel...again. The were part was interesting, you would think with the focus where it is, that would be a done deal, not so much. I hated what David had to go through, but loved how Cassie proved scrappy is good, something Rachel should have remembered as she is scrappy personified.

The Coven coming after Rachel or holding things over her head is getting old. They want to hate her, yet they want her knowledge and skills. You can't have both and they haven't learned yet, if they are honest and up front with Rachel she probably share because at her heart she is a good person. Instead the Coven paid a big price and were sucked in by someone who is what they think Rachel is. I was all starting to like how things ended, until there was that last comment and you know Rachel won't leave that alone and they will suck her in, it remains to be seen just how much this will cost her.

4.5/5.0

Probably should be a full five stars but I did a dumb thing. It’s been a few years since I read a Hallows book (I’d just gotten busy and forgot about them). So, when I saw this one pop up on sale, I grabbed it. Little did I know that one more had been written in between this book and the last one I had read. It wasn’t until I popped over (confused) to see the previous books to figure out why I wasn’t connecting, that I realized I had missed a book! Oh, THAT was why! My memory isn’t that bad! Whew!

SOPE! Don’t read out of order! But IF you have read all the previous books, this one is AWESOME! Even not knowing some of the background, by the last half of the book I had settled in enough that it became the can’t-put-down-edge-if-your-seat yumminess we all adore in this fabulous series!

P.S. I am truly in awe of how Ms. Harrison is keeping this series so entertaining and engaging, even after 17 installments!!

For such a well established writer and series, the sloppy, repetitive writing and typos are unforgivable. While the ending sets up an over-obvious segue to the next book — featuring yet another old character being recycled (YAWN) — maybe it’s time to wrap this series up. The publisher didn’t spring for a decent edit of the book, which means they don’t care anymore and it’s only going to get worse. And the relationship between Rachel and Trent is just grossly unrealistic. Shades of Bella and Edward. I’ve been a fan since book one, but I don’t think I can handle another installment if it’s this bad.

I feel like Rachel is getting less and less intelligent the more powerful she gets. Bad decision after bad decision and You can't even say it's information that we have as a reader that she doesn't have because of the same information that we are getting. My goodness she is so slow and self-centered.

Rachel Morgan, my favorite witch-born demon is back! I always get a little excited when Kim Harrison releases a new Hollows novel. This long-standing series is one of my favorites in the genre because of it’s ever-evolving world and cast of characters.

This time, a mysterious associate of Hodin comes to exact his revenge on Rachel and her friends. When he frames her, the people she loves the most are threatened. So she must act quickly before someone else gets hurt.

Ivy, Pike, and Trent are all present and have a good amount of air-time in this book, so if you’re a fan of this merry crew then I have no doubts that you’ll enjoy this one as much as I have.

I always wonder how Harrison will keep writing more books in this series, but despite the seventeen books it already has, I feel like the series continues to be excellent. She is always able to come up with something that will intrigue readers to find out what will happen next and now, I am even more excited to see what will come in book eighteen!

I was with it until the very end. I felt like Rachel was finally going to stand up for herself and be the demon she is. It was going pretty good although I felt she was still too wishy washy with some decisions. She was also still relying on others too much. Make a plan and stick with it. Stop second guessing every decision. I feel like Vivian would have been fine if she was more assertive. But I was looking past all that until Kisten. Just when you tell off the witches you let them dangle a carrot and make you look like a fool.

My excitement and love for this series is waning. I like most of the characters and the action and heartfelt moments, so it deserves praise for that. I just want some development as it all feels stagnant now. Rachel is not moving forward with life decisions or her career or her character growth. Ignoring the first 13 books in the series, we are four books into the "new" chapter and nothing has changed. Rachel is still living in the church, she's still getting into power struggles with other paranormals, she is still floundering with her demon side, she isn't moving forward with Trent. I am sick of her phobia to commitment; seriously you're afraid to move in with the guy you're in love with? In the previous book Rachel was so stupid with Hodin, and I couldn't believe we had the same thing happen in this book. There was only one option of who could be the mysterious evil mage, and Rachel again ignored every sign.

I will say, I am still fed up with everyone making Rachel out to be the bad guy. She is told she was too mean to a murderous villain, that she should trust Vivian who constantly threatened to send her to Azkaban, that she is the worst leader because she's not a murderer and she has to solve the city's problems all the time. She never got the sympathy or praise she deserves, and it's very annoying.

The plot of this book was okay, but nothing really changed. The only aspect that had potential for a real impact were the threats from the witches. The rest was the usual Hollows hijinks. I just want more from this series, and instead we're going backwards. Like in the end we have Rachel excited about a certain character from the past, that kind of came out of nowhere. Let it go. Similarly, every time Rachel sees Ivy we have to be reminded of the worst queer-bating plot ever that I absolutely hated. I like Al, Jenks and Trent and I really want to love Rachel again.

It actually makes me very sad to give this book a rating under 4 stars. Obviously, once you are at the 17th book in a series - as a reader - you are invested. I was thrilled to see a new book out and did not even think twice before hitting the buy button. Unfortunately, I wasn't as excited when I finished the book.

Don't get me wrong - the reason I gave it even 3 stars is because the world that has already been built is one that I love. I love Jenks, Rachel, Al, Trent, Ivy....I don't have to name all the characters that we have come to know and love. What I don't love, and actually have been noticing more and more recently, is that Rachel seems to be devolving as a character. Instead of learning from her mistakes, she makes TSTL decisions and impulsive actions A LOT. Without going into spoilers, there is a portion in the book where Jenks is trying to tell her something. He tries over and over and all she can say is, "I've got to go" (not the exact wording, but you get the gist) This 5 seconds of listening would have made a world of difference but...nope. She has to run off to do something impulsive.

It got to the point that it wasn't fun for me listening anymore. I was annoyed and that is never a good thing. Yes, this series was supposed to end several books ago. In fact, we had the series end and the goodbyes and everything. I, for one, was thrilled that she decided to bring it back, but recently, I've been thinking that maybe that wasn't a good thing.

Who knows, maybe its just me?

I really enjoyed the first 3 of the new books but this one I didn't enjoy so much. This felt like a MASSIVE STEP BACK compared to the first three which were giant leaps forward. It felt like we were in the middle of the series again and I hated it. All the work put in and we're back to where we started.

I mostly just feel like I'm glad it is over because that means we can move past this bullshit.

I love the Hollows…Rachel, Jenks, Trent…… Ivy and the vampires have been background noise in these new books. I love how Trent and Rachel’s relationship has developed. But I’m not at all sure like where this is going. Something’s should just stay dead and buried.

3.5 stars for this one. I love this series and it is an auto-buy for me but I actually had trouble getting into this one at first. It seemed Rachel hasn't learned from every other time she has been attacked and nearly taken out. I will absolutely continue the series but I just didn't love this one.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

So,  The Hollows series was the very first Read-along I hosted in my early days of blogging at Yummy Men & KickAss Chicks.  I  chose it because I had heard so many great things about it but had never read the series. It was also 2014 and the year the "final" book was released, Witch with No Name.

I'm really enjoying the extension of this series.  I almost like it more than the original books.  Because so many of the characters and relationships have histories, I would read this series in order.  There will likely be spoilers for the series here.

Rachel is demon subrosa for the city.  She is a balance of sorts between all the factions of vampires, wolves, pixies, elves, demons and more.  Jenks is with her always and they protect each other well.  Her relationship with Trent is steady and lovely now.  It is still slowly developing.  Al is talking to her again after the whole Hodin mess. Hodin is still "locked away."

Someone from their childhood comes to town. Lee is also a Rosewood baby like Rachel, which means he is also a demon with witch knowledge.  He is the other big player in the Brimstone trade.  Trent wants to convince him to sell a clean product so people won't die.  Lee is up to no good though.

Walter, the lunatic werewolf, is also in town to try to get the focus from David.  He and his wolves abduct David and curse him.  Rachel, along with others, works to locate and save him.  Walter has a mage doing curses and Parker, his second, is another lunatic who loves to torture others.

Rachel's friend Vivien, from the witch coven, wants to see all her spells, particularly the one cast on Pike's brother, Brad. It was a illegal curse but Rachel didn't know it.  Hodin created it and Stef, under Hodin's thumb, put in the dark ingredients.  Rachel alternates between trusting Vivien and worrying Vivien will send her to Alcatraz.

There is a big power struggle and it looks like Rachel and Trent will be arrested or have to live in the ever after.  There are a lot of battles and trying to figure out curses and magic.  But Rachel has friends and allies.  They come up with a plan and a coalition to continue ruling and put everyone on better terms.

I love having more time with these characters in this world.  Rachel is strong and better at taking only reasonable risks.  Since others got away, no doubt there will be more problems in the future.  The witch coven is now young and not really happy with Rachel, so no doubt that will continue to be an issue.  The ending brings up a possibility of another character from the past and I have mixed feelings about this being a possible new plot line.

Demons of Good and Evil
by Kim Harrison
The Hollows #17
Urban Fantasy Paranormal
Ages: 17+

Rachel Morgan, a witch-born demon, must prove to the Witch's Coven that... spoiler from the last book...

But there is also trouble brewing with the werewolves... Spoiler from a previous, previous... book...

As one can see, this is an ongoing series, and they feed off each other, the next picking up where the last ended. I love it. Makes the reader feel as if they are a part of this world. (Though with the events of the 13th book of the series, it's sometimes hard... spoiler....)

It's pretty obvious that I like this series since I've read this many, though this one I did notice a lot of repetitive phrases and explanations, and while I get there are only so many ways to explain certain actions, too many times makes it feel 'copy and paste'.

There is an adult scene that pushes the suitability for readers under 17, and I really hope the author is NOT jumping on the 'spice' bandwagon! For me, that kind of detail and page filler isn't needed and it would ruin Rachel's, (and the author's) innocence and respectability.

The plot was great, and moved along at a good pace, though I had the who and mostly the why guessed pretty quickly.

I really want to give it the next star, but there was just so much repetitiveness, especially within a few pages of each other, that took away from the story.

But I still highly recommend this series!

Oh man, I loved this one! Yeah, okay, once again everything falls apart for Rachel just when you think things are looking up. Perhaps because I've been in this world for a long time and have read all of them in a relatively short period of time I was able to figure out who the villain was and who would be the help from an unexpected place. Not that I completely trust the help, but eh, that's just the way things go.

I loved how many different folks were included in this one, including Weres, Vampires, Pixies, Elves, Witches, etc., and how she was able to pack in magic, politics, intrigue, mystery, and even a bit about motherhood. Did it feel like too much? Heck no! I love her many friends and allies that end up in this story, with Rachel finally realizing that they are there by choice and that nothing she says or does is going to take that choice away from them (and it shouldn't!).

Without being specific, I also liked the scenes with Al and the kids, and Rachel's friends calling her out and telling her not to give up.

Seriously, though, even though I knew who the villains were, Harrison still managed to tear my heart out as well as leave me completely hanging with the ending. Yeah, I'll be waiting in line to read the next one!

So I was a little behind on the new books, and I just marathoned the entire series to get to the latest. I've been reading this series since the first book came out, so I was excited to restart the journey and dive into the new books. That excitement has dissipated and was completely wiped out with this last book. This will be a long review and will encompass feelings for the "new series" and not just this book, so I apologize beforehand.

First, as other reviewers have stated, Rachel's character has devolved with these latest books. Although she was always erratic and fumbling, she did have growth in the original series, but all of that growth has just gone right out the window. None of her decisions make sense, and it's almost as if the character is written to never actually learn or grow from her mistakes. She consistently makes dumb decisions and bumbles around even though she is allegedly an all-powerful demon.

Just to list a few dumb things she does: Trust random new demon that all other demons hate, check. End up having closest friends be hurt for making dumb decisions, check. Don't listen to your backup and closest friend when he's trying to tell you something, check. When looking for the new big bad (the mage), don't look at the sudden appearance of a former rival and villain as a sign, check. When trying to help your friend and alpha pack leader make sure and throw the stupidest spells, leaving him highly vulnerable so his enemies can cast a spell on him and cart him away, check.

Next, her relationship with Trent is annoying. In one paragraph, she loves him desperately. In the next paragraph, she has commitment issues. She refuses his help one second only to put him in danger the next. Their relationship has become a bore, and Trent's character has been dulled down to just another one of Rachel's men.

Also, can we just have a strong friendship with Ivy without constantly rehashing "what could have been"? That was books ago. It's time to let it go and grow their friendship into something else besides longing for the choices that weren't made. Ivy is a fantastic character, but every single time she shows up, it's about what if and the reasons why. We get it...we understood it way back in the original series. We do not have to keep going on and on about it. Let their friendship grow into something else that is healthy and full of love without all the old drama.

That leads me to my next grievance, the obsession over every vampire she ever comes into contact with. I like Pike's character, but can we not have her drooling over him and his vampire "pheromones " every time she's near him. I get it. People in relationships can still find other people attractive, but when Rachel gets all hot and bothered by every new man introduced, it reduces the alleged love between her and Trent. Plus it's just annoying at this point that the vampire "pheromones" are still a trigger. She's got an entire war chest of demon magic open to her and she can't find a single spell to take away her issues with having been bit?

On that note, I'm over the Kisten thing. They dated, he died. I never saw their relationship as this grand love. I liked his character but from the start it seemed like a doomed relatinship regardless if he lived or died. It's treated as though they were together for years but in reality it was like a high school romance that lasted a very short amount of time. I get that the loss would be devastating but it's brought up so frequently it's like it happened two months ago. His ending was sad and tragic and was a pivotal point of growth for Rachel's character (or was) so if he suddenly reappears from the dead, then that whole storyline was meaningless and will ruin a huge part of the original series.

Next, the demons have just been put on the back burner. There could be so many fun and exciting storylines with the demons acclimating into society. Them forming their own governance, them infiltrating the city masters. But no, we get one working in a coffee shop, and then he quits. Al is still around but also seems to be sidelined in the books instead of being a major player. Where are the demons messing with the power structures in Cincy? Where are the demons forming their own coven of moral and ethical standards. They have thousands of years of negotiating and magic yet have just merrily skipped back into the ever after to just keep doing what they were doing?

Lastly, new storylines, please. We've done the master vampire dance, we've seen the demons be mad at Rachel, we've absolutely gone through the coven of moral and ethical standards struggles. There have got to be more compelling stories within this great world that Kim Harrison built. Instead, it's just rehashing old storylines and never moving the plot or character forward.

I'm happy to have Jenks, Al, and Ivy back. I like Pike. But the stories just aren't giving me anything , and Rachel is even more annoying than ever. I think I will skip out on the next book or the next few books and just scan the reviews to see if things get better. I've had my fill of the bumbling witch demon for now.

There is little I enjoy more than returning to the Hollows to revisit Rachel and her team and the #17th books in the series was no exception.
"Demons" drops right into the action as Rachel is working with Al in the park on jumping lines, when they notice weres gathering nearby. Unusual activity, especially as David is nowhere nearby. Led by "The Mage" a disguised magic user manipulating the alpha weres desire to steal the focus from David, The Mage is determined to cause trouble for Rachel and Trent, and chaos for her city.
Rachel is getting better at talking to those around her, and allowing her people to help her, but she still gets in her own way sometimes, with disastrous results. To be fair, she is being pulled in so many directions it's hardly her fault though!
And the reveal of a potential new spell at the end! Oh! Cannot wait for book 18!

Thank you NetGalley for the an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel seems to have lost all of the growth and maturity that she had (thankfully!!) gained over the last few books. The main plot driver throughout this book seems to be her stupidity, which is such a shame. Early and mid series Rachel was naive, self-centered, impulsive and had terrible decision making skills, but she was young and had a healthy dose of trauma to work through. As a reader, you can empathise and understand this. Now she just comes across as an idiot who hasn't grown into who she could be, finally living up to her potential. As a female reader in her thirties, I had truly wished we could see that journey, that growth in confidence and ownership of who she is. I think it mirrors a lot of our own journeys through life, and seeing strong, idiosyncratic female characters come into their own feels like an affirmation of this. I will still read the next book in the series, in the hope this was just a blip, as the author has created such a rich, vivid world, which seems to have so much potential for further exploration.

DNF Got about 1/3 of the way through, and I realized I could not care less about Rachel Morgan. I like all of the other 'side' characters (not so much for Ivy, I was way over their relationship books ago). But Rachel: still making impulsive, dumb decisions followed by wallowing self doubt or guilt. Ugh. Done with this series.
