What good is a designer dress if someone puts a stake through it? It's the most important event of the season in New York's upper-crust vampire society. The Rauhnacht Grand Ball has everything you need for a night of scandal and intrigue: gala dresses, stolen boyfriends, forbidden love . . . Then a team of vampire hunters shows up and ruins everything! The surprise attack by Van Helsings is the worst gate-crashing ever. In the aftermath, half sisters Lilith and Cally scramble to regain their footing at the exclusive Bathory Academy—and in the world of high fashion, where both have star potential. When new suitors turn the romance up a notch, it's almost enough to make the half sisters forget their intense rivalry. Almost. But shared blood between vampires is not easy, and before long Lilith and Cally find themselves face-to-face again.

Nancy A. Collins (born 10 September 1959) is a United States horror fiction writer best known for her series of vampire novels featuring her character Sonja Blue. Collins has also written for comic books, including the Swamp Thing series, Jason Vs. Leatherface, Predator: Hell Come A Walkin and her own one-shot Dhampire: Stillborn.

Collins was born in McGehee, Arkansas, United States. She lived in New Orleans, Louisiana in the 1980s; after time in New York City and Atlanta, Georgia she settled in Wilmington, North Carolina in the late 2000s.

Collins has written twenty novels since 1989, many of which refer to and directly include races of creatures the author calls Pretenders, monsters from myth and legend passing as human to better hunt their prey.

Collins has also written a number of highly acclaimed Southern Gothic short stories and novellas, most of which are set in Seven Devils, Arkansas, a highly fictionalized version of her hometown.

Most recently, she has focused her attention onto the Golgotham urban fantasy series, published by Penguin. Golgotham is the 'supernatural' ghetto of New York City, where creatures from myth and folklore--including witches, shapeshifters, leprechauns and centaurs--live and work in uneasy alliance with mankind.

for an author to write 3 books, yes not 1 not 2 but 3!!!!!!!books and not finish the series or even speak of the future of the series is just ridiculous. Really write 3 books and leave us hanging for YEARS, I started the books when they first came out and hunted for the books(they weren't at bn or any of the other book stores in NYC!(well only the first one was easy to find)) and to be waiting with no clear indication as to whether or not the books are gonna go on is just*UGH*

AFTER DARK is the third installment in the VAMPS series. It picks up where NIGHT LIFE leaves off; everyone of Old Blood consequence is attending the Rauhnacht Grand Ball at the Orlock estate. But the night turns sour when the Van Helsings show up and start attacking.

Callie is stunned when she sees her old flame, Peter, among the hunters. And Lilith is awestruck when she finds out that Xander Orlock, aka EXO, is partly responsible for her rescue.

But after the Grand Ball, things are no longer the same. Lilith's mother is now dead, and along with her, all the undead and anything associated with her blood right. And Callie's mother and protectors are also gone. In light of these changes, Callie has now been invited to move into the Todd household. She's still not ousted as Victor Todd's daughter, and Lilith is seething at having Callie move into her mother's rooms.

There are some bright spots, though. Callie's fashion designs were discovered by none other than Sister Midnight at the Ball. After showing Sister her sketches, Callie is invited to have her own runway show at Sister's boutique. But unfortunately, Lilith is to be the star model. Callie can work with that, if she has to.

AFTER DARK is a fun look at the lighter side of vampire family struggles. Callie and Lilith want nothing to do with each other, yet circumstance keep bringing the two of them together. The story moves quickly and engrosses the reader from the first page. The story flows better having read the previous two installments, but readers can quickly pick up the gist of the story if this is their first foray into the VAMPS series.

I don't know when the next installment of VAMPS will be out, but AFTER DARK leaves so many loose ends, you just know there has to be one! I for one will be keeping my eyes open for it!

Note: Nancy A. Collins has to be excuse my miss manners crapping me! There is no freaking way this Young Adult Series is finished. The only way it's done is if the author thinks the youth today are fishing barrel stupid??

Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance was well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!

I love vampire books! I thought this one was a lot like the blue bloods series in every way (a copycat) but I love that series! so I love this one too!

A shipper is born with this... I loved the couples forming so freaking much. However, after the end of this one, I expected another book to come out but it did not happen...

Really, It would be a 2.5 book. I really liked the beginnig, but the ending was horrible. It doesn't end, I mean, I need to know what happened with the characters, at least with Xander and Lilith, and of course with Peter. I hate when authors do this, but it happened anyway.
I really liked the first one, It was so cool; the decond one was ok; and this started really good but It didn't end, so...I can't reccomend this one.

As other readers did I picked this book up without reading any of the others in the series. However it wasn't hard to piece together things.

Pros: I really like the whole vampire society thing. It is different the New Blood and the Old Bloods. Their influence in the every day life of humans. They are known about but it is one of those things "They leave us alone we leave them alone". There is also the whole is someone dies and their birthright isn't claimed then anyone who was chained to them such as servants, powers, etc dies along with that vampire.

I also in a campy sort of way enjoy the whole Van Helsing family thing. They are living on years of biaseness and refuse to see that while some vampires are bad not all are, which I think is the point to be honest. However, it still bothers me. There is a bit of a Romeo and Juliet thing going on and then because of a possibility of darkness Romeo turns into a bit of a dbag.

Cons - Set in high schoolish and you can tell. The whole he said she said jealousy petty bs games are obvious everywhere. While I don't mind the influence of high school since this is a YA, the amount of high school influence including relationships is a little overdone.

Also some of the characters and their motives are so obvious it kind of hurts. There is def some 2 dimensional characters, and I know this may have to do with the fact they are in high school.

In end, I am not sure I will read the rest of the series. I might just to see which characters evolve and which ones stay in their horrible ways.

This review is coming from someone who did NOT read the previous volumes in the series:

I picked this book up on a whim when several of my friends were reading, or wanting to read, the series. I wanted to know what it was all about, and this was the first one I found, so I figured I'd give it a try.

First of all, I had no problem figuring out what was going on. I may not know every detail, but I had no trouble following the story. So, don't think you absolutely have to start with the first book in order to read anything from this series. The book does a great job of repeating all the important details you need to know.

I found most of the characters to be every bit the stuck-up, entitled, self-absorbed, and shallow brats that the book description basically promised they'd be. The whole concept of vampire teenagers with the same extreme attitude issues as stereotypical rich human teenagers is simultaneously genius and hilarious. I particularly enjoyed the comeback Lilith was able to make to her father: "When YOU were MY age, Beethoven was rocking the charts." So, even if I was skeptical at first, I can honestly say that this was a fun book to read. I may even go on the wishlist for the previous ones so I can read them. And as for the next one? Well, I must admit, I AM curious about what happens.

Lilith and Jules relation having been the same since Jules had a affair with Carem one of Lilith's close friend. Cally lost her mother. So she is living with her pretend father, Karl Metzger. One of her real father's worker. But Karl has to do something in Europe so Cally is living with her real father.

I think soon Lilith will lose all her friends. Her closest friends are starting to leave her. Lilith and Jules broke up. Now all she has are wanna-bees. Lot of people are starting to like Cally and she has the shadow hand. It's a very power move that can kill people or vampire easily.

Basically, this is Gossip-Girl but with vampires. It can be momentarily amusing, however, the label-name-dropping gets so out of hand you feel like you are reading ad copy for a big Madison Avenue firm rather than a mindless YA vampire novel. The characters are completely self absorbed, forgettable and shallow and the plot is basic and doesn't really go anywhere you don't expect it to. You can anticipate the next move chapters before Nancy Collins writes it. Sadly, it is utterly forgettable and a disappointment.

This is the third book in the vamps series. The book starts where the last book stops, so it is better to read the other books in these series first. So you know what happened before and who is who.
It starts with a ball where the vampires get attacked by their enemies. One of these enemies is Cally’s ex Peter. After what happened on the ball Cally has to start a new life. Cally’s talent for making fashion is discovered and displayed in a good way. But at the end of the book her life changes again.
What happens next? I don’t know, the next book in these series, isn’t written yet.

After FINALLY gettign a copy of this book i really enjoyed it. It starts where night life left off at the ball. When the Van Helsings get into the pickture Cally does a surpisign act to save her real father. She kills her ex-boyfriend's dad by using the shaddow hand. THen Lilith's mum dies and Cally's mum does too. Its all very good but then The ending just leaves too much untied. I was hoping for a better resolution but i guess that the way it is

The things I read in this book...Things are really starting to get crazy in the world of these vampires. I really didn't expect some of the things to be said in here. Things that I never would have thought could even have a chance of happening. And when they said she had to leave? I thought that Cally's life was going to end. I bet the next book will be even better.

It was superbly written, I enjoyed it alot, although it was quite on the short side, we began to see a tiny bit of a softer side to Lilith, because of Exo, but then she had to turn into a B*tch at the end.
Hope there is more to come, and I also hope Karl comes back into one of the next books in the series

Not only does this book seem to leave out half the story, but then it ends with a cliff hanger and Collins hasn't written any more to the series.

It left out a lot of the interactions with other characters that could have expanded the story line and seemed to focus more on Lilith's growing vanity & selfishness and on Cally's budding career.

This might be the best book yet. Cally and Lilith just barely remain civil to each other..still. Big changes are in store for everyone as we see in the third book. I cannot wait to keep reading to see what happens.

Lots of action at the start of this installment.
Cally's and Lilith's careers in fashion start to take off. They also both find new loves. I can't wait to find out what will happen between the Lilith and Exo and between the Todds and the Maledettos.
Looking forward to the next book.
