What do you do when fate forces you and the one you love apart? You sacrifice. Reincarnate. Rewrite destiny!
Belynda, a human girl, is plagued by dreams of a past life filled with magic and supernatural forces. Living in a world where such things exist only in myths, she feels trapped and haunted. Her quest for answers leads her to discover her life is tied to Isabel—a witch from centuries past who defied a secret society's rules by falling in love with Drake, the immortal dragon prince of Druleska—the realm of fire. The punishment, his exile into darkness.
Her actions change their lives when she releases Drake from his thousand-year exile, and he finds that Belynda carries the scent of Isabel, his lost love. He will battle his inner shadows, struggle to reconcile the connection forged by Isabel’s sacrifice and his irrational attraction to the mortal girl.
Together, they must confront the Guardianship—fight against time to preserve their bond—fight for a chance to rewrite destiny.
Morgan Vela is an author of romantic fantasy novels. Her stories join with shifters, witches, and dragons and explore other realms—while magic fills the pages of her stories, romance guides her imagination.
I have made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember—I have seen dragons and magic-filled worlds since I was young. I have traveled long and far and lived many lives through the pages of books I’ve read. This freedom of believing in the impossible, even briefly, made me want to share my stories. And so, my journey began as a writer.
A great beginning to the series. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I'm glad to have discovered a new author that I want to read more from.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When fate awakens, love becomes the most dangerous magic of all Morgan Vela delivers an immersive story packed with elemental magic, reincarnation, and forbidden love. Belynda’s quiet life in Massachusetts unravels when cryptic dreams lead her to a hidden legacy—and to Drake, a dragon prince bound by fate and shadow. The world-building is rich, and the multi-POV structure adds depth and intrigue. Once Drake returns, the tension explodes. Their connection is electric—fated yet dangerous—and every moment pulses with magic and desire. The elemental magic reveal is unique, and the council showdown near the end had me glued to the pages. And that ending… wow. It’s bold, gut-wrenching, and unforgettable. Drake’s ultimate sacrifice left me aching for book two. This cliffhanger doesn’t just tease; it promises an epic storm of magic, love, and vengeance still to come. If you love prophecy-driven fantasy romance with dragons, magic, and a love that defies realms, this is your next obsession.
This book was a great YA fantasy read! I loved the little details put into it, and I also loved the plot. It wasn’t my typical fantasy plot, but it was a great one nonetheless. The characters were great. I live Belynda and Drake’s connection. It did feel like it was being dragged on for a bit towards the end, but overall, it was still a great read!
4.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed this book. The first one in the series, for me, was a little slow but it was a good introduction to the characters and story. This book tho was so much better for me. The characters were fleshed out well to include a little of Drake’s dark side, which I loved. The story is really heating up now and I can’t wait for the next book.
Book review of Vanished: a guardian story by @morganvelaauthor
This was a hard 1 but i rated it 4 out of 5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It starts with Belynda who is the MFC Then we get Drake who is the MMC
Although the book is easy to read due to the writing style i felt as though it "dragged on" alot in some places and became somewhat repetitive in some places. There was also quite a few grammer issues within the book for this book not being a beta/arc. This is my sole reasons for it being 4/5 and not a full 5 starts
Nevertheless I did like the story, aside from the above the story did flow and there was no plot holes. There was quite a few twist and turns. Surprisingly all unexpected. And the world building was done extremly well. You dont ever get the "where are we again" vibe when reading.
Thanks to @bookish_butterflybeth for bringing this relaunch to my attention
4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 0.5 🌶️. This was a great first book in what is looking to be a great Romantasy/shifter witchy story. I liked the connection to Isabel’s past and the reincarnation and dream sequence themes.
I like that we got detailed world building and a lot of information on the magic rituals that Belynda performed.
I adore our moody protective MMC dragon shifter Drake. I am BEGGING for the moment he snaps!!!! 😩🤤
That ENDING. MORGAN! Why! Good job I’m about to immediately read the sequel because Christ. Best be a happy twist soon!
This first book in the series was a good read. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to the slowness in the middle and the prolonged build between the FMC and MMC. My read would have been faster but I slowed and was distracted at time trying to keep my focus. Once I pushed through this area the story picked up again and of course was left with a cliffhanger leading to the second book. I possibly will continue with the next book, but it will not be on my priority list but in the future.
I absolutely loved this book Everything was amazing. The world, the characters, the emotions. It’s magical, heartfelt, and kept me hooked from start to finish.
The ending broke my heart in the best way, and now I need to read the next books as soon as possible. I have to know what happens to Drake, and if Belynda truly manages to do something no one else ever has.

Thank you so much Morgan and the Wings & Words community for letting me be a part of the team. ❤️🌺
what a great start to a series, this ended on a cliffhanger and cannot wait to read more, and to find out if the relationship between belynda and drake can continue. excellent read
i really enjoyed this book. the world building and story telling was amazing and the character development so far is interesting. i love how we got to see the history through the FMC's eyes regarding her family's history that leads her to her own point in time and purpose. the lust and longing was really well done too!
Ooofffttt…. What do I say about this book?! A story of self-discovery, of longing, of love. I loooooved this book! Dragon shifters, magic, reincarnation… what more could you ask for in a book. Especially when you are a sucker for a Romantasy!
The chapters are a bit long, but it does not derail from the story at all! I really loved the first instalment of Drake and Belynda’s story and I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
Go get this book guys. It’s an absolute banger!!! Available on KU and Amazon!
Morgan Vela… we salute you! 🫡 ❤️🔥
ARC read courtesy of Morgan Vela and Beth @Wings and Words. Thank you so much for the opportunity!
As soon as I found out there were dragons in this book, I needed to read it asap, and was lucky enough to be sent this as an arc by Wings & Words! Here are my thoughts… Vanished: A Guardian Story is a truly enchanting first instalment in this YA fantasy series! Belynda is a formidable, resilient FMC who pairs with the protective and fearless MMC named Drake. However, this book is so much more than that. The successes of this book are more than the soulmates trope: firstly, the strength and depth of Belynda’s character is immense and believable; the world building and magical details are superb and the cliffhanger ending just makes you want to pick up Book 2! I’ll definitely continue reading this series - I’m totally invested now!
Wow I loved this book the story line was amazing and got me hooked with a touch of mystery Drake is my favorite character his love his presence in the story is very interesting in a way that makes him stand out for his passion of protectiveness of his love of belynda and her binding to his past love whom belynda carry’s her essence of her life and love of drake and the discovery of who her father is and finding out truths about her mother was un expected I can’t wait to read book two I’m hooked and i definitely have to own the books this book is well worth reading you won’t be disappointed
LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. need to read all the other books in the series. so well written. can not wait to see what happens next. got this as a review copy from wings & words. i could not put my kindle down, especially towards the end
I absolutely loved this book the characters were so well written and the story was amazing i can't wait for book 2 well done Morgan 10/10 definitely recommend
Officially my next addiction after a series slump since ACOTAR. 😱 Morgan knows I'm not speaking to her right now... I'm sure I'll forgive her at somepoint... maybe... depends how the rest of this series goes! 🤣 . if you want a protective, fierce, dragon shifting MMC in your life and a determined, strong-willed FMC 😱 this is it 😱 The whole novel is a twisty little minx but I'm LIVING for it. You can't just do one book, so only pick this up if you want to disappear into a whole world!
I was immediately drawn to Belyndas world, the mystery of her dreams kept me intrigued,. I connected right away with her gloomy life and craved for her world to unravel and boy did it unravel. This love story has everything, it’s like being loved by a vampire but 10000 times better and to discover other realms and secret magical societies ….so yummy - love love loved this first book jumping into the second one tonight - I’m so excited!
A Guardian’s Story is a captivating love story brimming with magic, suspense, betrayal, and ancient lore. Perfect for both newcomers exploring the magical genre and seasoned readers alike, this book delivers an intense, edge-of-your-seat experience that leaves you eager to discover what happens next.
At the core of the story is its sharp and resilient female protagonist, Belynda. Her path of self-discovery, as she explores the extent of her powers and accepts her inheritance, is both moving and empowering.
This tale has all the hallmarks of a classic love story—romantic tension, drama, and suspense—but unfolds with a tantalizing buildup that hooks you at every turn. It doesn’t just plunge you into its world; it draws you in, making you crave every twist and revelation. The narrative dances with realism, keeping you engaged while leaving a little whisper of “what if?” lingering in your mind.
I devoured this book and can’t wait to dive into the second book. If you’re looking for a story that will keep you spellbound, A Guardian’s Story is a must-read.
I truly loved the story that Ms. Vela shares with us. The world building was great. The characters were also great. Her attention to detail with Belynda and Drake’s love does not go unnoticed. I felt like I truly understood all of the connections clearly. She has a true talent for storytelling.
There were a few points towards the middle/end when she’s getting the truth finally and understanding her connection to Drake that seems a little muddled. I get the points but the words were not as careful and deliberate as the beginning. Kind of like looking through frosted glass. But as the story picks up, the story gets clear again and it pulls you straight thru to the end.
You really need to read this book with care, take your time and drown in the love that is Belynda and Drake. This book was a solid 4 star for me. ❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I can’t wait to continue this story with them!
3.75 stars* Thank you to Book Sirens for this copy for me to review!
Vanished follows Belynda as she unfolds the story of the dream she has been having for years. We follow as she discovers she is the reincarnation of a very powerful elemental magic - and her soul mate is a dragon shifter. The concept was extremely exciting to me, I love soul mates and the book gave me huge Twilight vibes in the best way, Vela creates a gloomy atmosphere to set the story and I could feel myself being hooked by these two lovers. That being said, I definitely found a few plot holes that were missed unfortunately, and I think it was slightly too long in page count (there are one or two scenes where it narrated by one perspective, and then is completely rehashed in another perspective which was at times unnecessary.) I was also unsure of which age range it was for, I thought it was sitting really nicely in a YA range, but towards the end of the book it had some slightly spicy scenes and I think they felt a bit out of place. I liked how instantly our two characters bonded, it felt very organic. And there was a bit of Gaeilge thrown in at the end which made me very happy!! TLDR - this was a fun fantasy about soulmates and I’d love to continue the series!!
Thank you to Wings & Words ARC Community and Morgan Vela for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I’m really grateful.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
I went into this book knowing it featured a few tropes that aren’t typically for me (reincarnation and a why-choose dynamic in later books). I didn’t realise this until after I’d signed up, but since I’d already committed I decided to give it a fair shot. As a romantasy girlie through and through (hello, dragons!) I thought I could look past what I don’t usually enjoy and embrace the story, especially with all the rave reviews. I was right!
Unfortunately, I was also right in thinking this one wouldn’t be for me, though not for the reasons I expected. Morgan’s take on those tropes actually worked better than I thought. My main struggle was connecting with Belynda; I was very aware she’s a younger FMC, so I found it harder to relate at times.
That said, Morgan’s writing is brilliant! Engaging, easy to follow, and full of delicious twists and tension. The storytelling itself is marvellous.
If this had been an adult romantasy, I would’ve devoured it and rated it around 4.5⭐. As it stands, this was a solid 3.5⭐ for me. I probably won’t continue the series, but if Morgan ever releases an adult fantasy, I’ll be first in line to buy it!

Morgan Vela delivers a magical and captivating tale in Vanished: A Guardian Story. This book has everything a fantasy lover could wish for magic, dragons, love, sacrifice, soulmates, and forbidden romance all woven into a compelling narrative.
The story’s heart lies with its intelligent and fierce female protagonist. Her journey of self-discovery, as she uncovers the depth of her powers and embraces her inheritance, is both inspiring and emotional. Watching her evolve as she learns to balance her inner strength with vulnerability is one of the novel’s most rewarding aspects.
The themes of love and sacrifice are beautifully explored, and the soulmates and forbidden love dynamics add a layer of emotional tension that keeps you hooked.
I’m already impatient for the second book to see where this extraordinary journey leads next. If you’re a fan of stories with strong characters, intricate magic, and heartfelt romance, Vanished: A Guardian Story is a must-read. It’s a tale of courage, destiny, and the power of love that lingers long after the final page.
4.5☆ Belynda is an ordinary girl who's lost her mom and lives with her mom's best friend. Belynda has been having realistic repetitive dreams for years. Then they, the dreams, start moving forward in time. That's not normal, right? Belynda wants to understand what is happening and why. As she begins to investigate, she realizes that she is connected to Isabel, the young woman in her dreams. Belynda learns that life, fate, has more in store for her than anything she could have ever imagined.
I went into this book knowing that it was a series and that I'd eventually be reading the rest of the series, but I don't want eventually, I want now. I was left wanting more of Belynda and Drake's story. I want to know more about Felsia, Oliver, and Celeste. I want to know who is left and what will they do. I want more. Thankfully the series is complete and I will get more. What a ride? What angst? What a great read!
I’m not going to lie. This book blew me away. I love the main characters in this book. Everything is more than it seems and secrets are kept. Only things have a way of coming to light. Also fate has a sick twisted sense of humor. The struggles in this book that Belynda had to fight is so upsetting. For someone so good she shouldn’t have to deal with all this. But oh how this book ends. I can’t even express to you to struggle it was not to scream. Now I will I love that Morgan Vela loved us enough to give us a glimpse into the next I need these books in my life. They are so dang good. I will say not all things in life
This was a good story. I like how it explored the way Belynda and Drake were connected. I liked Drakes character. It was written well. The story has a unique twist on what’s fated. I also felt like there were themes of what’s nature and what’s nurture in this story too. I think there is promise to this story.
If you like characters coming into their power and magical bonds then this story just might be for you.
I received a free copy and I am voluntarily leaving a review of my honest opinion.
I have met the author in a community that I participate. I have to say that fantasy is not my favourite genre, but when Morgan said it mixed with urban fantasy I decided to give it a chance. It was the best decision I could have. Belynda and Drake story was so cool and full of twists that I didn’t know what to expect after. Morgan created a magic universe that mixed with the reality of our world, makes us imagine how incredible would be if that reality existed. This is just the first book of a series and I am excited to continue this journey. Recommended to all community who loves an YA Fantasy book.
This book has been on my TBR for a while and I’m so disappointed in myself for not reading it sooner. I have a passion for dragons and I don’t know why I put this book off for so long. The writing style was so easy to follow and done so well. The world building and the magic system evolved perfectly. I’m so emotionally invested in these characters. I have a love hate relationship with a lot of them but the deep connections with each of them are still there. This book was epic and I wish it would have been the first dragon boom I read this year. It was by far the best.
I am always a sucker for a Romantasy! Add in Dragons and fated mates I couldn't be happier!!
This story draws you in and holds you for a thrilling ride. You can enjoy a fated love story filled with hidden magic and ancient lore, along with some twists and turns throughout. The plot only thickens as you continue to read, making it perfect for YA and those new to fantasy as well as more seasoned magic wielders.
Vanished: A Guardian Story introduces you to Belynda and follows her journey of self discovery, not only of herself but of the world she is thrown into. We see her grow in herself and gain confidence, turning her into a resilient, strong willed character. Along the way we get to see her relationships with the other characters grow/develop, adding to her character development.
I do wish some of the chapters where a bit shorter but I really felt as if I was storming through so it isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I LOVED this book and jumped head first into the second. I just needed to know what happened!!
So would I recommend Vanished: A Guardian's Story? Yes... yes i would (go get it... now) 👏👏👏
