I should have known behind that deep sexy southern drawl, and beautiful face lived the world’s biggest asshole.
I’ve tried my damnedest to put him behind me. But it was hard to do when I saw his face every night in my dreams and couldn’t forget how he worked my body over.
It was okay. I had my work as a vet, my equine rescue to manage, and my friends. I’d forget him or work myself to death trying.
Except there’s one problem.
Turns out he’s the new free-agent running back who just signed a one-year deal with the Portland Pirates. The infamous Declan Miller has turned my world upside down and reinserted his unforgettable self back into my life for the next year.
Declan's the last person I want help from, but it looks like I don’t have a choice.
Declan Miller
When I walked into Alejandro’s Bar that night in late July, I never expected to meet someone my first night in town.
But the sexy guy with wavy dark blond hair and hazel-green eyes sitting alone at the bar caught my attention immediately. Or maybe it was the way he was sniffing his own shirt.
After a night of the best sex of my life, I knew I had to push him away. I wasn’t doing relationships anymore, and this gorgeous, funny man had the power to break me.
But when I find out my unforgettable hookup is part of my new friend group, Dr. Callum Kennedy wants nothing to do with me until he has no choice but to let me help.

Illegal Motion is the newest entry in The Package Deal and focuses on the relationship between Declan and Callum. I enjoyed this second chance story even if I found Declan and Callum frustrating at times. They both clearly have an intense connection but due to various miscommunications and misunderstandings, they have many relationship hurdles that need overcoming.
They both have a one-night stand that ends horribly, then do not see one another again for eight months. Now they have another shot at their HEA, which was not without its complications. Declan and Callum have a protective and loving bond that has some very tender moments that help even out their more challenging times.
Overall I really enjoyed this entry and look forward to seeing the next couple as they deal with their unusual predicament.
3,5 stars for Callum and Declans story. I loved the story but the pacing was absolutely wrong. The first third should have been longer and the second third much much shorter, the last third was ok.
The story on the whole was well done, although communication troubles for me not really work. We had them here, which I found a bit unnecessary. It would have been a good story without them.
The pacing is a problem throughout the whole series, which is a shame as the writing and the stories are really good Nevertheless, this one was much better as the one before, which is the reason I rounded the 3,5 stars up to 4.
I am now also really curious about Greg's story and really hope, the pacing will improve again.
An ARC was provided by GRR and I am happy to give my honest opinion
The basis for a good story is here but oh dear lord does this book need a good editor. It is way too long, much too repetitive, and rife with errors of all kinds. I enjoyed earlier books in this series and wanted to like this one too but it was painful to get through. It’s too bad because the MCs have a good story but it isn’t told well here. I find it hard to believe these are the same authors who wrote the first book. Book two began to show similar problems I found here but this book brought those problems out in all their glory. I don’t think I’ll be able to read book five. I can just imagine, with what we already know about that couple how things are going to drag out similarly to how they did here.
**I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion.**
This is my first book by these authors, it can be read as a standalone but I’m thinking all the side characters have their books out now or are coming soon.
I liked this story it was on the bigger side at over 400 pages!!
We follow Callum and Declan as they navigate these feelings that stuck with them both from a one night stand. They met in a bar and had an insta connection, but next morning Dicklan (not spelt wrong!) has a change of heart and decides to protect himself and leave on bad terms.
Callum was deeply affected and it stayed with him, it was something inside that he couldn’t seem to get past, so when he meets Declan again he’s not best pleased!
But the connection between them is fire!! There is lots of spicy times which I was here for! Their lack of communication at times was frustrating but when they were on the same page it’s was hot!!
I could if done with a bit more detail in the spice department, but the build up and affection added to it so it worked.
Great story looking forward to reading Greg’s journey.

😈Enemies to lovers 👨👧Single dad 🍆One night stand 👨👨👧👦Found family
I didn’t read any of the previous stories from this series, maybe I missed out but it was very enjoyable. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite genres, this one didn’t disappoint!
After a hot one-night stand with Callum, Declan’s attitude turns 180 into a jerk. Callum is pissed off.
Eight months later they meet again. Callum tried to avoid any contact but business matters made it necessary to keep seeing Declan. There are a lot of irritating misunderstandings. Declan ruined their connection once, a second time is not going to happen. They have to find the right balance between family matters, work, and their love lives.
The road to their happiness has some bumps but they get there. There’s a hot chemistry between both men. They have a bunch of amazingly supportive people around them, found family is the best. A solidly written story, nicely developed, for my pleasure a bit too long, and a bit dragging. Overall a pleasurable read!
We have had dumb coincidences, weird hookups, sparks of electricity, trashy hookups, endless internal monologues about why relationships are for idiots, and no plot progress at all in 118 pages of a 472-page book. All of that is kind of par for the course, if unfortunate.
But then we get Declan [!] listening to Callum [!] jerk off and decide to join in as an homage (cuz that’s totally what you do when you’re visiting your hookup/crush first thing in the morning), and … oh look, ow they’re having sex again with the worst dialogue and …
Nope. Hope it’s great, but we’re getting nowhere fast for me.
Declan, the football player and Callum, a veterinarian walk into a bar but that’s just the beginning.
The angst and misunderstandings got heavy at times and seemed repetitive. Oddly enough I liked Declan more than Callum. He seemed the more relatable of the two. Their extended group of football players and families peopled the book with larger than life personalities who worked really hard at being irresistible.
I sometimes had issues with understanding who was talking (even though there were chapter titles) which required some backtracking.
Overall I liked the book but once again it was another one of those stories I liked but didn’t fall in love with.
Review Copy requested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads.
This book is the fourth book in The Package Deal series. It’s full of heat, heart, and humor. There’s a fantastic cast of characters (couples from precious books in the series reappear) and solid pacing. I’m looking forward to reading more titles from this dynamic writing duo!
Callum and Declan meet at Alejandro’s Bar in late July and sparks fly. The pair hit it off and have an epic night together…until Declan makes the conscious choice to be an a%$&@?+ Declan doesn’t do relationships anymore and does not want to be tempted by Callum’s sweet scent, kind disposition, and good sense of humor. He’s going through a difficult divorce and doesn’t want to get hurt again.
The MCs meet again in November and realize they have mutual friends in common. Callum Kennedy is a veterinarian with a horse rescue. Declan Miller is the new running back for the Portland Pirates. Declan goes to apologize for his behavior from months ago and the pair reignite. These two have insane chemistry, but don’t get along at first. Later on, Callum gets kicked by a horse (more to his condition, but don’t want to spoil) and Declan reevaluates his feelings. Did I mention these two have insane chemistry? H-o-t!
Declan adores his daughter Meredith. He feels less enthused about his soon-to-be-ex-wife. Declan wants custody of Meredith and will do anything in his power to get it. The custody battle is one of the conflicts in the novel. Another conflict is miscommunication. The authors do a great job of highlighting miscommunication as one of the reasons these guys cannot get it together. Eventually they overcome the obstacles in their way, learn to open up, and achieve their HEA. The epilogue is totally swoon worthy. (I was also really excited about the Sneak Peek at the end for Cooper and Greg’s story)!
𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 by Rheland Richmond & Emerson Beckett | The Package Deal Book 4 4.5 Maple Leafs | 4 Flames
Declan and Callum had a one-night stand that ended horribly, thanks to Declan. Months later they come face-to-face again when the Portland Pirates, Declan's new football team, help get Callum's new horse therapy business off the ground.
Declan and Callum drove me nuts at the beginning of the book with their lack of communication. I wanted to bang their heads together and yell at them to wake up. Once they finally figured everything out they were amazing together and their chemistry was magical. I loved the family they built with Meredith (Declan's little girl).
This series was highly recommended to me by Deeply Love Reading and I'm glad I took a chance on Rheland Richmond and Emerson Beckett as I am looking forward to going back to the beginning to catch up but also for what is to come next.
Get ready for... mm, sports (football), medical (veterinarian), one-night stand, single dad, forced proximity, found family POV... dual first-person

Just when you think this series can't get any better, along come Callum and Declan.
These two were explosive, from the first encounter their chemistry was insane and the connection, magnetic! After an incredible one night stand that ended abruptly and poorly by Declan, neither man could forget about the other. Turns out those strangers from that night share the same set of friends now that Declan is part of the same football team as Jackson, Alex, Marcus and Greg. After a lot of groveling and helping when needed Callum allowed Declan to redeem himself in the sweetest and sexiest of ways. Their relationship development was as close to perfect as perfect gets. Declan was so guarded at first but slowly but surely Callum broke down his defenses learning to trust his heart so Declan could fully embrace the love that he was feeling and once that happened.......swoon ❤️ they were fire and fury at the beginning then love and passion in the end...compared to the other books, the sexy scenes were five alarm fire hot 🔥 I also loved the addition of Meriden (Declan's daughter) and how these men fight to keep their little family whole. Speaking of family, the found family in this series is one of the best set of characters that I've ever read in a series as a whole. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Cooper and Greg, I need their story like yesterday...I cannot wait! Id also love to see Jesse, Alejandro and Nick...*cough* cough* hint* hint*
Ask me if id recommend this read, Hell Yes I would...as a matter of fact the whole series is a must!
* I received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
There is nothing worse than a book with stupid drama. Like ridiculous break up is one thing but just ghosting each other because one offered to come up, and the other said no because had to go grocery shopping. Yeah. Let's not talk to each other for 6 to 7 weeks. Just not call, text. Break up over that? Now that's some teenage bull there.if you are going to model your books n happily ever after on this then it's super flawed. How could a couple last if that is their default.
What? Last time I checked a hook up is that, a hook up. Getting all bent out of shape because your hook up said he wanted to leave? Making him feel bad when you know it’s a hook up. Immature. What in the world is going on with this series good bad worse…I don’t know.
Tropes: second chance, single dad, neurodivergent character Feels: 4/5 Steam*: 3.5/5 Kinks: none Angst: medium Triggers/potential icks: none
This book annoyed me. You know how many books have a big conflict 80% mark and from there the couple resolves their issues and gets back together? This couple had two of those conflicts and reunions before the 53% mark in the book. After the second one I literally had to check to see if the KU edition that I was reading somehow had two books put into one. But nope it was just the one book. It was emotional whiplash.
Also these guys were dumb. After spending 2 weeks together after an injury, both of these dumb dumbs decide they're not going to contact the other person because it's a test of the other person's feelings to see that they care enough to reach out. Neither does because they are expecting the other one too. And they're both emotionally devastated and it's like you did it to yourself dumb dumbs! And they get back together the moment their friends forced them into a room together to talk. Then they have another fight after someone hits on Declan and Declan avoids going public with Callum. And they're both like feeling panic / hyperventilating and I'm having no sympathy towards them because they are inexplicably jumping from one extreme of emotion to another for silly reasons. They just supposedly learned the importance of communicating after their last fight in reunion.
Another black mark against this book was the number of typos in it. For example, using you're instead of your, is instead of if, and putting in duplicate words or words in the wrong order so the sentence doesn't read right.
I was uncomfortable with the custody issues for Meredith. I know at the end there was a big dramatic moment where Declan got proof that Ellie wanted custody of Meredith for monetary reasons. But for the majority of the book, Ellie was just coming off as not the most sensitive of parents, and not helping Meredith to adapt to being neurodivergent or making Meredith priority. It felt like Declan was giving Meredith false expectations that the custody situation could change. And he was coaching her on what to say to Ellie to make her agree to a custody change. But divorce is tough, and both parents are entitled to have time with their kids as long as neither is being abusive. Declan had conversations with lawyers and Meredith, when he should have broached the subject with Ellie up front and talked about what was best for Meredith privately.
Anyway I had a lot of things that annoyed me about this book. But have to give the authors some credit with my rating for plot development, complexity of the story, emotion/steam between the MCs, and the nice found family/support network they built. I was intrigued at the references to Greg and Cooper's relationship, but after the annoyances of this book I won't be picking it up.
*FYI, I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because you can have steam without kink.

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆☆ ILLEGAL MOTION is the fourth installment in The Package Deal series. Like the rest of the series, I feel it is a better experience when reading the series in order as the authors intended.
Callum Kennedy and Declan Miller have a chance meeting at a local bar. After a night that is so much more than just a hookup, Declan has to get away from Callum, someone who he feels has the power to break his heart. Declan is the new running back on the Portland Pirates and quickly joins the friend group with Marcus, Alex, and Jackson. The only problem with that is Callum is also very deep in that same friend group. When they unexpectedly show up to the same place, they are both taken back. Declan regretting how he left things and Callum mad because he's been thinking about him for the last eight months.
I am so invested in this series. I love seeing each of these friendships and relationships play out. Watching Declan fight to get Callum to forgive him then them both fighting to get Declan custody of his daughter. The miscommunications between them became repetitive and annoying but I was so invested it didn't matter.
I am dying to finally get Greg and Cooper! Their angst and emotion is all I want!!
Angie – ☆☆☆☆ I'll start this by saying I did not read any of the previous books in this series. I was able to read this as a standalone, however I enjoyed the secondary characters and now want to know their stories so I will go read them.
I was hooked from the beginning of this book until the end. I just loved Callum, he was just the sweetest guy. Declan crashed and burned in the beginning with me but he definitely made up for it for me and for Callum. LOL. These two are so good together and I loved watching their relationship grow. Like I said, the secondary characters are great too. This book wasn't insta-love but it was filled with so much love, steam, and some swoon-worthy moments. I can't wait to read the next book when it comes out. I'm invested in these guys now!

This story is a clear example of the lack of communication between two people, and the misunderstandings that this causes.
Callum and Declan meet one night and spend it together. It was amazing for both of them, but where for Callum it meant the possibility of something else, something that could be amazing, for Declan it meant a quick runaway in the morning, not before being such a jerk in front of Callum and hurting him in the process, simply because Declan needed to protect himself from what Callum could mean. From what he could make Declan feel. Something he didn't want to live again after a painful divorce with her ex wife. What neither of them expected was to meet again eight months later.
And here begins the miscommunication and misunderstandings. Declan quickly realized the mistake he made those many months ago, he could never forget that night and that man, and he tries to get closer to Callum, and although Callum couldn't forget him either, he doesn't trust him or his intentions. And is not for less. Declan doesn't know how to express himself well. He is always messing up or finds himself in situations that he doesn't know how to solve well. Which increases Callum's insecurities about him.
But despite all his mistakes, (and he admits them) one thing Declan isn't afraid of is persevering. He already knows what it meant to lose Callum once, he doesn't want it to be repeated, and although he takes his time, he does everything possible to win him back and keep him by his side.
They both have the biggest hearts, they both seek to help others and when they finally found that common ground and settled down, they both gave of themselves completely.
And it is also at that moment that Declan also realized that he has everything he needs to get her daughter to live with him, and give her the life she needs, supported by Callum and by that found family that also helped them overcome obstacles that they put on themselves.
Great book. It has some details that I would like the authors to review, but they are minor, and they don't take away from the story.
And now to wait for Cooper and Greg!!!
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
"There's no use in wearing underwear anymore when I'm with you."
Well now that I've set the tone for this book with that tease, I'll get onto my review. Illegal Motion was a book that I was highly anticipating ( along with Cooper's book which I'm excited to say is next!) It did not disappoint. After reading the prologue I had some very strong feelings for Declan and folks they were certainly not fluffy ones. That man was a total dick and I cannot blame Callum in the slightest for his feelings towards seeing him again. You see, I already adored Callum from his scenes in previous books of the series so seeing someone hurt him got Declan immediately on my shit list...mine AND some of our past MCs.
I did love the moment when Declan and Callum meet again and finally figure out just who each other are. Callum is feisty AF and I wanted to cheer for him so loud. No doormat behavior here! It's also plain as day that their belief that neither of them will ever have to see the other again has gone up in smoke. Declan has firmly become a part of the wonderful found family our Pirates have created and Callum is part of that package no ifs, ands, or buts. However, that doesn't mean we don't get a steamy, anger fueled hook up or two. 😉 Enemies to lovers anyone?
As the story progresses we get to know Declan more and he slowly makes his way off the shit list. His asshole behavior is more like a protective façade, one cultivated from a hellova burn he's been through in the past. I admired his growth in the story. It takes a strong person to admit to their mistakes and an even stronger one to forgive. I'm looking at you Callum you big hearted softie. The romance felt very realistic. Where Declan was known to eternally put his foot in his mouth, Callum learned how to ask more questions so he understood what Declan was trying to say instead of just assuming and getting upset. Compromise and understanding are two important aspects of a healthy relationship. It may have taken some time for Declan and Callum to work out their optimum dynamic, but they did so with love in their hearts which made way for the beautiful HEA they both deserved.
"Fact of the matter was the heart wants what it wants. And evidently, my heart wanted Declan Miller."
Star Rating: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ POV: Dual, First Person HEA: Yes Spice Rating: 3/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Overall Opinion Filled with lots of very spicy scenes and swoony sweetness, Illegal Motion was another amazing book in the series that just gets better and better. The first encounter between Callum and Declan was SO steamy and delicious and when Declan decides to be an a*hole with the way he left the following morning, I was so ready to sass him out! Thankfully he redeemed himself in my eyes, and when he and Callum met again, his determination to win his way back into Callum's good books made me swoooon. We get to know each MC as we go along, and cannot help loving them both so much and hoping they'll end up happy. A lot of the story focuses on forgiving and realising when in the wrong, and the authors did such a great job humbling these characters, and whilst there are miscommunications, they learn how to overcome these, although not without misunderstandings! The chemistry is undeniable and they simply cannot keep their hands off one another, leading to many spicy scenes but also some tender and loving moments. The angst is mild, but still leaves enough to have you wondering will they wont they. They both had to fight for their happy ending but oh it was so worth it to see them become stronger together! That little sneak peek at the end into Cooper and Greg's book was an absolute tease and I cannot wait for their long awaited book!!

This is the 4th book in this great sports series about the Portland Pirates. Even though it isn't required to read the previous books, I do recommend it merely because they're so good.
This book gives us the 'second chance' of Declan and Callum. I don't know if it really classifies as a second chance romance since they only had a one night stand which ended badly.
Declan is the new running back for the Portland Pirates and when he notices Callum in a bar when on a visit, they hook up. There's an immediate attraction between the two, but because of Declan's bad experiences with his ex-wife, he's scared and treats Callum horribly the next morning.
Callum is a veterinary and close friends to the Portland Pirates team. We met him in the previous books, so we know he wants to start up a place where kids can come to ride horses to help with their anxiety and other problems. He has no idea who Declan is, and is astonished to find out some time later that he's the newest addition to the Pirates team. To say he's not happy to see him again is mildly spoken. He doesn't want anything to do anymore with Declan even though he can't get him out of his head. His feelings turn out to be deeper than he expected.
Declan also has realised his mistake while being away from Callum. His thoughts are filled with feeling for Callum and he regrets his actions. When he gets the chance to prove that he still cares for Callum he grabs it with both hands.
This is a story about two men who meet by accident, have a great time and due to a lot of misunderstandings and miscommunications get separated. It's about willing to do anything it takes to prove that love can conquer all.
I've only just discoverd these authors and haven't yet read the whole series. I've only read book 3 and now this one, but I've already put books 1 and 2 on my TBR list.
*I kindly received a copy of this book by Gay Romance Reviews and this is my hones opinion.*
This story opened with a fun and flirty meet-cute that sets the tone for the entire book. While that evening isn’t really the start of things, it left a lasting impression on both characters who spend a lot of the story needing to get out of their own way and say how they feel. This story runs with the miscommunication trope leaving readers desperate for them to each just say what they feel to the other. Declan has a lot of unresolved issues from his previous marriage and Callum always jumps to the worst possible conclusions anytime they talk. You just know these men are perfect for each other if they’d only man up and put themselves on the line and really communicate. I loved the back and forth between them, and found the frustration agonizing but slightly delicious all the same. Their chemistry is off the charts and flirty Declan is a lot of fun to read.
The guys meet in a local bar the Pirates like to hang out in. After the world’s most awkward conversation and flirting, they decide to get out of there and see where their incredible chemistry will lead. They spend an incredible night together, and in the morning Declan runs out. Months later, they meet again and find they have a lot of mutual friends in common. Tempers flare which turns into passion then a truce. Having to work together on a project, they decide to hold back from their physical connection. But how long will that last?
While this isn’t a close door FTB romance by any means, readers who were hoping to read about Callum and Declan’s first night together as mentioned in the blurb will be left wanting. The story does make up for it as the guys fall for each other, but this story does not explore that night. In the end, this is a sweet story about two guys who have trouble using their words effectively. Miscommunication runs amok. They have hearts of gold and are reluctant to risk getting hurt again. But their friends help them figure things out and realize that love is worth all the risk.
Callum and Declan enjoyed a very memorable night and then went their separate ways. Callum is a veterinarian and manages his horse rescue and Declan is a professional football player, so there was little to no chance they would ever cross paths again. But when they do manage to meet again, Callum gives Declan the cold shoulder because of the way they left things. Since they have to work together to help a mutual friend, and in doing so, they get to know each other better, making them both regret the way they treated the other, what with Declan running away from his feelings and with Callum’s anger at the running away. As they grow closer, they realize their feelings for each other are the real deal and together, they discover how to navigate through lots of obstacles and major life issues.
I really liked this book. It was full of emotionally ups and downs and examples of how real-life can get in the way of a relationship and how it is important to have honest communication and being open to becoming vulnerable to your partner. I think once the reasons why Declan originally ran and their miscommunications are cleared up, their story and their relationship began to flow more freely. You could tell how much they were attracted to each other from the start and then after they met again when they allowed themselves to feel something real. It was satisfying to watch them fall in love, even among all the chaos and problems that had arisen. I am glad they get their HEA.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Callum has built his life around his work as a vet, managing his equine rescue, and spending time with his friends. But one thing he never expected? Having the world's biggest asshole re-enter his life. His face haunted Callum's dreams and the memory of how he worked his body over was impossible to shake. Then the infamous Declan Miller, the new free-agent running back, has signed a one-year deal with the Portland Pirates. Now, Callum's life is turned upside down as Declan reappears, thrusting his unforgettable self back into his world. Declan met Callum in Alejandro’s Bar one night in late July, meeting someone was the last thing on his mind. But the sexy guy with wavy dark blond hair and hazel-green eyes caught his attention immediately. After a night of the best sex of his life, he knew he had to push him away. He wasn’t doing relationships anymore, and this gorgeous, funny man had the power to break him. But fate has a twisted sense of humour. Turns out, Declan's unforgettable hookup is part of his new friend group. Dr. Callum Kennedy wants nothing to do with him until he has no choice but to let me help.
This was a story full of passion as the line between love and hate are not that far apart. I loved these two men and that Declan was quite happy to throw his time, skills and money to win Callum over. As usual other team members and their husbands were involved in bringing the two men together. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
Callum and Declan get off (literally) on the right foot and quickly stumble into wrong foot territory when the morning following their passionate encounter shows the handsome stranger to be a huge jerk. While Declan was trying to protect himself (and Callum, to be honest) after an extremely contentious divorce, he goes about it horribly, breaking both their hearts in the process.
When Callum and Declan are not only reunited at a party a few months later, but introduced by mutual “chosen family”/co-“workers” as well-suited to work together on a major project, sparks once again fly. No matter how angry Callum wants to stay at Declan and no matter how little faith Declan has in himself to be a good partner to Callum, the pull of epic love is too much to deny.
When Declan’s ex-wife arrives to cause some trouble and threaten the plans Declan & Callum have for one another and becoming a family with Declan’s daughter, can the two men overcome this latest hurdle or will it be too much for them this time? Illegal Motion Rheland Richmond Emerson Beckett
They have an immediate and intense connection from the moment they meet. Callum is open to it, but Declan is scared by it and refusing to accept it pushes Callum away in a hurtful way.
I really did enjoy this book. and completely understood the self-confidence issues both men are suffering from and why the ability to communicate, although repeatedly telling themselves they needed to, opening their mouths and sharing their vulnerabilities was just too difficult at times. Unfortunately that led to misinterpretation of actions and words which kept them apart for longer than was necessary. Even when they get together there are still moments where their inability to open up continues to lead to trouble. I was so happy when they FINALLY got their *stuff* together.
Declan’s daughter is adorable and as a mother myself there were times her vulnerabilities and struggles broke my heart and had me tearing up. I love all the supporting characters. These men have truly built their own village between the players, their husbands and even the ex-wives for the most part. I am looking forward to the next book as the relationship, and mystery behind it, has been building from the beginning.
I do think the book was a little too long, and because of that there was a lot of repetition of issues between them. It’s quite a steamy read, but maybe they could have spent a little less time in the bedroom and a little more time talking. With all that said, if you've read the previous books I would recommend reading this one as well.

The only problem with that is Callum is also very deep in that same friend group. When they unexpectedly show up to the same place they are both taken back.
There’s a flag on the play. This book can be read as a standalone but you will enjoy it more if you’ve read the prior books. Declan and Callum meet in a bar and their chemistry is off the charts hot. After a night of hot sex, Declan treats Callum like crap. He had his reasons but damn what he did was brutal. Karma is a bitch and six months later they run into each other at Jackson’s house. Declan has had months to think about how badly he treated Callum. After apologizing profusely, they end up agreeing to try and be friends. This turns into FWB. What happens after is a lesson in just talking to each other. Declan keeps saying he’s horrible at talking but every time he does Callum jumps to conclusions without letting him explain further. Callum for all his wonderful qualities he literally jumps to the worst conclusions when Declan is involved. Both men need to take a few minutes and actually listen to each other but it takes a while to get there. Once they do, it is amazing what they can do. We get to see Declan’s daughter Meredith. She’s been with her mother in Memphis but hates it there. Watching her grow and bloom while she is with her father was sweet. I really enjoyed seeing the whole gang and this is where it helps if you’ve read the prior books. All in all I really enjoyed reading Callum and Declan’s story. It had the things I look for in a story.
In the beginning, I hated Declan, regardless of the reason, he was a jerk and smug. And I really wanted him to be shut down. But he redeems himself in a most honest way, flawed but heartful. But then I was annoyed with Callum for always running away!! I mean you can’t complain Declan doesn’t communicate then constantly not communicate! All in all, this is a sign of quality writing when the characters evoke so much emotion from the reader.
In the end, I really like both of them. They felt real and had a lot of chemistry. I mean those boys were hot for each other! And the more we get to know them, and understand them, the more we fall in love. I like that they both had to grow in order to get their happy ending.
And of course, the rest of this football family is everywhere, and they are amazing. I love how wild, fierce, and caring they all are. I can’t wait to finally get Cooper and Greg’s story. They’ve been teasing us with it for so long, and I’m dying to know what’s going on.
Callum was exhausted and waiting at the bar for Cooper and next to him came Declan and he smelled like apples and vanilla and he was fine. Callum was flustered, attracted and sure that he would not be interested. But he was. And they have a passionate night together before Declan walks away, no names exchanged. But Declan has recently joined the Portland Pirates football team and Callum, the veterinarian who is a part of a friend group with guys from the team. Several months later they met again when visiting Jackson, who had an on field injury. Callum is understandably still angry about the butthole way Declan left the morning after but they wind up working together on a project. As their paths cross over the next few months Declan tries to get back into his good graces and Callum tries to stay angry but he really can't. He likes Declan. Things come to a head when Callum is hurt and Declan steps up to take care of him. This gives them a chance to stop being stubborn buttheads and give themselves a chance to communicate and start working towards their HEA. It was also great getting to visit with couples from earlier stories in this series while these two worked out their issues. It ended well. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
