Although a very successful work, it is intended for the professional audience, specifically those interested in the economic/financial history of the UK. I read it twice, page by page, and only in my second time I started enjoying it. Average history reader needs to look up some names and events that are referred to without further explanation. As well, some of the financial technicalities should be studied from other resources.
