The VCR played old movies, continually. Sterling's mother believed hearing the human voice would wake him from his coma. And one day it did ... With a head full of movie scripts, he can only communicate by reciting lines from old movies. However, no one catches on. The medical world is stunned by their findings. Though he walks and talks like everyone else, his brain scan shows he is still in a coma. The doctors are determined to take him away from his family, to study him more closely. Meanwhile, Sterling touches the lives of everyone he meets, especially old Mrs. Hudson, standing at death’s door, and wanting so desperately to walk through. The story is told by Kit, Sterling’s little sister, perhaps the only one to come close to knowing what is really happening. It's a story about relationships, family, growing up and growing old. If you love old movies, and the words strange and different don’t frighten you, this is a story you will treasure…a love story about a different kind of love.
I was hoping for a happy ending, but it was a bit sad. The footnotes were a bit much. They were at the end of each chapter rather than on the same page of the footnote.
