It’s official. The city’s got a new serial killer, and the b*tch is taunting me.
He’s killing women, tearing them up, mutilating their faces, and leaving them for me. He knows what I do. He has to. He doesn’t hate me because I’m the Bloody Queen.
He hates me because I’m the Night Slayer, because I take out the men this world doesn’t need.
The thing is… I’m starting to suspect he’s one of us, someone who knows our inner workings. Me being a serial killer ain’t common knowledge, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s a spiteful heart. He’s killing girls to get back at me.
Sylvester, Maddox, and Viper are my rocks. My sexy mafia men who’d do anything to keep me safe, even if it means lying to me. But I’m no damsel in distress, and I don’t deal with liars. They better shape up if they want to stay on my good side.
I got a serial killer to catch, and I’m gonna do it whether I have their help or not.
One, two, you better believe the Night Slayer’s coming for you. Three, four, by the time I’m done, you won’t be begging for more.
*Spiteful Heart is the second book in the Born to Die trilogy, and thus includes darker themes. Expect swearing, violence, and steamy scenes. This is a why choose romance, meaning our leading lady won't choose between her love interests in the end.*
Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.
Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!
If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.
This one was a little rough to get into at first, but once a body was found at Newton's, it picked up. I really thought Newton or Harvey were behind the killings. I never would have expected someone who WAS supposed to be DEAD already! What the hell? Now, the question is who saved that loser. In the end, the author gave a hint that we had known them already. Could Marcus be alive still? Or Aiden? I'm so thrown off, and am excited to get to the next book.

Well when you find out who the serial killer is you’re all gonna say wtaf! I had a inclining who it was going to be but talked myself out if it for the reasons you’ll understand if you’ve read the previous series. I thought it was just two books but I’m glad to know we have Vicious Heart to come and hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of who is really out for Lola.
Lola may be the big baddie in the city now but someone with a grudge is taunting her and she’s two seconds from losing her shit. A blast from the past. A stalker. And three men who hate her as much as they love her. Reading this book did make me wish the earlier trilogy was fresher in my mind. Some of the plot kinda fell a bit flat for me because this smoked up brain can’t remember details and they kind of matter here. By the end half of the situation is handled but there’s still an unknown threat out there. There’s only so many current characters that I’m honestly not sure how things will play out. Hopefully the upcoming bloodshed brings peace finally (until Lola goes out hunting of course) to the city and takes out a character I remember this time!
This was definitely not as fast paced as the last one, but still I did want answers. I can't believe Tony was still alive after the ordeal Lola put him through, it's almost unbeleievable. I am intirgued to find out who helped him fro the river and who he is working alongside. II have y suspicions that its is Maddox and Sylvestor's Dad. We will see.

I absolutely love Lola and am very invested in her story, but I also feel that the first three books told her story and it didn't need to be added on to..
When I first saw that the author was bringing back Lola and her guys I was excited but a bit nervous. I didn’t know if the magic of the first trilogy could be done again but I should’ve known better. Candace makes you love her characters so much that you never get sick of them!
Lola and her men are so fun to read. They are fun, exciting, and they really bring the spice! (There is a scene with Viper and Maddox that is so hot! 🥵) Even the side characters, like Harvey and Big Mike, add to the entertainment of the series.
As for the plot, Lola is still haunted by the serial killer and things really get crazy’ I was beyond shocked. I did not see that ending coming at all! We are left with a bit of a HEA for now but I know the craziness isn’t over yet for this crew and I’m so happy we’re getting more from them!
Candace did it again. This one was 5 stars! I absolutely devoured it. The plot thickens, and just when we think we know who's behind it all, we're hit with a crazy Plot Twist! I did not see that coming.
I loved seeing Lola and her guys, and Big Mike is really growing on me. And I just love Harvey too. He's also growing on me (like a fungus, but still lol)
The ending left me wondering what will happen next! Looking forward to book 3!
Brilliant read. The Night slayer is being stalked. what was once her job, has been taken over by a mad man, determined to slaughter his way through the innocent taunting Lola, But lola won't lay down without a fight, she is sharpening her knives and honing her skills to try and find the one making a mockery of her. Brilliant read. Cant wait for the next.
“I was no hero. None of us were. If anything, we were the villains”
We really get into the gritty details in this book and end with the serial killer identity. There is more to it, hence a 3rd book, but we do get a-lot of answers too.
Enjoyed the steamy scenes a lot more in this one: scene with Viper and Maddox, Sylvester and his tie 🥵
The magic of Lola and these men continues steadily through. They make sense for her. Their attractions and personalities make sense for their unit and I never dull of any of them. Love this series … top 3 fave of my harems if not top 3 of all time fave smutty smut. lol 10/10
I loved the first series, and I wanted to love this one. But I found myself skipping scenes. This book seemed like it should have been combined with the first one. Its still a good plot with likeable characters, though the first series is by far the best one.
I am so excited to be getting more Lola! She is an amazing character and her harem are just yummy. I loved the twists in this book, and how it leads right into the next one.
I actually DNF’d this at 66% complete. The chapters were just too repetitive for me and the story was just dragging on and on. I wanted to finish the series but I just couldn’t. All 6 books could have been 2, maybe 3 total.
Well, in my review of book #4, I said I had a feeling who the serial killer was... I was wrong!! Wow... didn't expect the serial killer reveal. But we still don't know who the hell his "partner" was. Dammit, Candace! Now I gotta read the next book asap. Lol.
I love Lola's story and how it's all panning out! Sylvie was getting on my nerves a bit, but he got better and I understand where it's coming from. I wish there was more as the book did feel a bit short, but the only thing lacking was more time between characters. Definitely rooting for Big Mike!
