Davinia

Sell over a million dollars of programmable hover vacs in a month, get a hefty commission check, and win an all-expenses paid trip to Ubaid Space Station.

That’s the promise, and I deliver on my end of the bargain. What I get for my trouble is a “supervised” guided tour of the station, surrounded by other humans.

I came for the extraterrestrial experience, not the poorly cooked chicken parmesan in the Earth-centric resort restaurant. So, who can blame me if I slip my leash by bribing the tour guide to let me escape yet another mind-numbingly boring museum trip?

After an encounter with a gray alien lands me a hot tip on the best place to find excitement on this station, I end up in a bar in the most dangerous sector of the Leisure Ring. I also meet the extraterrestrial of my dreams—at least, he can be for the remainder of my vacation.

Yes, he’s an Okihan, known as a “fox-man” to us humans, and yes, he looks very roguish, even with that super fluffy tail of his, but he reassures me that he’s not a pirate. He works for the Cosmic Syndicate, all official-like.

He’s charming, rakish, and probably more than a little disreputable, and I might be playing in a much larger sandbox than I’m accustomed to, but I just can’t resist giving in to his flirtation.

I came to Ubaid Space Station searching for adventure, and Suda Eran promises to take me on one, but I probably shouldn’t trust him, because the more time I spend with him, the more I realize that he’s already stealing my heart.

Born a dragon, but forced to take human form to fit into those little baby carriers, Susan accepted that she'd have to live a mortal life. She just wasn't going to go around being all boring about it. As soon as she was old enough, she immediately applied for an alien abduction, but got wait-listed, so she made her lair in the desert to wait out the coming zombie apocalypse with a pair of magical cats (they can appear underfoot in an instant, usually at the steps) and the dog from Hades that has three heads (and now has three bodies to go with them).

When the white knight came to fight the dragon, Susan liked him so much she decided to marry him and they now have a beautiful little dragonlet. (Who looks just like a little girl unless you use a magic mirror)

Fortunately, despite being trapped in this dimension, Susan uses her dragon's vision to see all the most interesting goings-on in the multiverse. Figuring they made great stories, she decided to share them with the rest of the mortal world, by writing fantasy, science fiction and romance.

Fluffy but not very sci-fi-y

This series is in the style of Regine Abel. Low angst, no insta-love but fated mates, lots of romantic interactions.

The first book in this series worked for me because

"Sometimes, people just need a tiny nudge in one direction or another to find their heart’s greatest desire—and then realize what they need to do to hold onto it."

This was the best!

description

Lighthearted, witty, steamy, and a bit angsty...I just adored it. It's no secret I didn't jive with the first book in this series but this one was super well written and I loved both Suda and Davi's characters. Suda was such a perfect mixture of alpha alien, leader, and partner. Davi was adventurous, kind, and knew how to grab life by the balls...or the tail.

Joking aside, the chemistry and relationship development between Suda and Davi was well written and I loved Suda's inner thoughts on what he wanted from Davi and where he saw their future despite her being unaware of the fated mates bond.

“No matter how far apart we are, I will always find a way to return to you. You didn’t just capture me, my beautiful huntress. You’ve claimed me, heart and whatever dark, withered wisp of a soul I might have left. It’s all yours.”

They had an easy going and seamless connection and this story just really did it for me. I devoured it!

Narration type: Dual Narration

🦸🏼‍♀️ Heroine Spotlight: Davina “Davy” Jones

Post-apocalyptic vacuum saleswoman might not scream “galactic heroine,” but Davy Jones is anything but ordinary. After surviving Earth’s invasion and the devastating plague that followed, she’s carved out a life in the ruins — resilient, resourceful, and ready for something more. When her hard-earned sales record wins her a coveted trip to a high-tech space station, Davy isn’t just chasing a prize — she’s chasing possibility. Her dream? To meet aliens, explore the unknown, and finally break free from the monotony of post-war Earth. What she gets is… a guided tour with all the excitement of a suburban hotel chain. But Davy doesn’t do boring — and her decision to ditch the itinerary sets the stage for a wild, sexy, and dangerous detour.

🦸🏻‍♂️ Hero Spotlight: Suda

Suda is the kind of fox man who makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about space pirates. As an Okihan, he’s survived brutal odds just to reach adulthood — and now he’s a wealthy privateer with a fleet of ships, a shadowy past, and a galaxy’s worth of secrets. His charm is effortless, his danger palpable, and his loyalty? Fierce. Suda’s connections span the spectrum from outlaw to elite, and when he meets Davy, he knows instantly: she’s his fated mate. But fate isn’t simple when your enemies could kill the woman you love. Suda’s internal tug-of-war — protect her or claim her — adds emotional depth to the heat.

🔥 Plot Pulse

Davy’s quest for adventure starts with disappointment: a sanitized, human-centric resort that feels more like a corporate retreat than a cosmic getaway. Her rebellion — bribing the guide and slipping off to explore — is peak Davy: bold, impulsive, and gloriously unfiltered. Her wanderings lead her to a dive bar beside an alien brothel, and instead of danger, she finds Suda — a fox man with secrets and smoldering charm. Their chemistry is instant, and their week together is steamy, intimate, and surprisingly tender.

But beneath the heat lies tension. Suda’s reluctance to reveal their mate bond or his dangerous affiliations creates a slow-burn emotional arc. He’s torn between desire and duty, and Davy, for all her bravado, is navigating unfamiliar emotional terrain. Their connection is electric, but the stakes are high — and the delay in emotional honesty adds both frustration and realism.

❤️‍🔥 What Hit Home

• Having read two previous books in this series, I came in with high expectations — and wasn’t disappointed. The world-building continues to impress.
• Suda’s “privateer” label is delightfully cheeky. Legal pirate or not, he’s got the swagger, the danger, and the heart. His fox-like features only add to his rakish allure.
• Davy’s courage is a highlight. She doesn’t wait for permission — she walks into a space bar, eyes an alien lover, and owns her choices. That kind of agency? Chef’s kiss.

🤨 Room to Grow

• The emotional payoff took a bit too long. I wanted that moment of mutual vulnerability — the “I choose you” — to land sooner. The delay made the ending feel slightly rushed.

🎧 Narration Vibes

Dual POV narration by Gabriel de Leon and Reagan West elevates the story. Gabriel’s voice is rich and commanding — perfect for Suda’s alpha energy — and his female character voicing is surprisingly solid. Reagan West brings youthful vibrancy and emotional nuance to Davy’s chapters. Her expressiveness adds layers to Davy’s inner monologue, especially in moments of doubt and desire.

📝 Final Thoughts

This installment blends humor, heat, and heart with a dash of space noir. Davy’s unapologetic boldness and Suda’s layered intensity make for a compelling pair. If you love alien romance with a side of danger and a heroine who refuses to be sidelined, this one’s worth the listen. Just be prepared to wait a bit for the emotional fireworks — they’re coming, but they take their sweet time.

2.5 stars rounded up. This story lost its appeal for me somewhere around the middle. I don't know if it's because of the way their relationship unfolded so quickly (they immediately hookup), the lack of honesty and communication from our male main character Suda (frustrating), or the repetitiveness of the plot (wine & dine then sex, repeat.. over and over) but the second half or maybe even last two thirds didn't do it for me. I was basically skimming through the last third of the book to get through it.

I wanted to like Suda, I really did, but for all the supposed charm everything felt so surface level and I never felt like he had much personality. Davi had more personality at least but her time spent with Suda was like watching your parents makeout - you understand logically that they like each other and that they're adults with an adult relationship but it's not personally pleasant for you to observe. Not exactly what you want in this kind of book, lol.

Their relationship just also felt so surface level and while there was mentions of them discussing personal stuff, you don't actually read them doing much of that discussing. We see a tiny bit of Davi falling for Suda but not much. Suda's whole interest in Davi seems to be solely based on a feeling he had in his dick the first time they dicked down. (Seriously, I wish I was joking)

I was annoyed at the ending pre-epilogue. It was kind of picking up in an interesting, fun way but then was somehow written to make it the least amount of fun possible by skipping over all the actual fun and action. Why. Why would you do that. Don't even get me started about the whole separation thing. It didn't make ANY sense!

The epilogue was kinda cute? if a little erm, gross in its implied misogyny at the way Suda acts around Bonnie and Mateo.

Yes. A sexy, piratical fox-man and the human lady who captures his attention. I AM HERE FOR THAT. To be fair, Suda captures Davi's attention, too. It's not one sided or anything. They're both all in, they just don't want to admit they're all in. FOR REASONS. But they both fall fast and hard. So hard.

So. A little nudge from a Gray (two nudges, really, since the reason Davi won her trip was thanks to Snarky and his monstrous vacuum order) puts Davi in Suda's orbit. Seeing as how she's trying to step outside her comfort zone and experience a little extraterrestrial fun, it really doesn't take much to get these two talking. Among other things.

As for Suda, he never expected to find his special hunny-bunny, but he did. And once he found her he's not willing to let her go. He has a plan in motion to keep his little human BEFORE she got put in a dangerous situation by a being who wants what Suda has.

No lie, I like these various aliens and their utter devotion to the one who captures their heart. The men know how to treat their ladies and they're pretty relentless in showing them exactly what sort of good time they can give them. *thumbs up*

Meh, The spicy stuff was great but I feel like the progression of the relationship took a back seat to the world-building. Instead of watching the characters get to know each other outside of their physical relationship we got info dumping on the different alien races and the galaxy as a whole. I became frustrated when the MMC kept his past and circumstances vague and how both of them refused to confess that they were catching feelings. It felt like they both wanted the other to feel the same for them but never let things go past flirty and carefree because they were worried they would have scared the other off....one simple conversation. Heck if one of them became vulnerable for a second. *Shake my head* This is a close call between a 3 or 4-star for me.

Vacuum saleswoman falls in love with an alien ex-pirate

We met Suda Eran before and I like him. Davi, his love interest, was adventurous and funny.

The way her profession tied into the plot was pretty hilarious.

There were some fun cameos!

Halian (with his Kotesri alias) and Paisley from The Fractured Mate showed up briefly, as did our favorite Roswellian alien, Luna!

Cupid also appeared.

These Iriduan Universe Love Stories are much easier to write for Trombley than the backstory heavy and labor intensive core Iriduan series.

I totally don't begrudge her that at all. It doesn't bother me too much that these books are standalones and the plot feels lighter.

But!! This one had a super rocky beginning with wonky, lengthy descriptive paragraphs that put me off and bored me.

The introduction of Davi and Suda could have been handled better. Although I liked both characters, their first meeting was much duller and more tame than it could have been.

What can I say I just want chaos and mayhem.

I liked the side characters! All of them had a lot of personality and quirks. Which is why I wish they had more impact on the story in this book! Instead, they were just window dressing in between Davi and Suda going at it like foxes in heat!

Still, it was an enjoyable read that I liked way more than the first instalment, My Chamaeleon Mate.

Softer and sweeter romance.

The Iriduan Universe is full of horrors, and this book still referenced many of them. However, the tone of this book was much milder and more focused on the “does he want to stay with me” than “are we going to live another day”. It has plenty of spice and lots of cheesy jokes and banter. The couple fit together well, but I think Suda could have used some more softness for his rough edges.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: kidnapping, violence (mild for one scene)

My favorite this far!💖💖🔥🔥

Ohh in really love this slightly lighter side Iriduan universe! I absolutely adore Suda the Okihan. He is a Fox like male but he's 7 feet of muscle, brains, danger and super sexiness! The Okihan are a hard race they fight tooth and nail and very few survive so when realize Suda is old for his face you know he is a very formidable male. He's in a dive bar that belongs to a friend when he encounters the one female that can take his wild heart. Davi is on vacation one that she has conveniently won buy selling vacuums. She on a alien space station trapped with other human doing very boring things the kind of things she tried to escape at home even if it's only for a little while. When she weakening to find her own fun she ends up in a dive bar and see the sexiest male she has ever encountered. One she wants to have fun with for the remainder of her vacation. When Davi and Suda agree to get to know is another and have some fun neither realizes their whole world is about to change! This two are so much fun. The chemistry is fabulous they are fun and really bring out the best in each other. What starts out as a fling turns into something so much more. Something that neither ever wants to give up. The world building is too notch. There is just the right amount of danger and action and if your looking for passion look no further this book is deliciously wicked and a bit naughty with a whole lot of love thrown in. Highly recommend!🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥

My friend recommended this book to me to fill in another challenge prompt. She is working her way through Susan Trombley's back catalogue, and after reading this book I TOTALLY understand why. This is such a fun romp through the space station!

I know that this is the second book in a spin off series, so I was a little intimidated to just jump in here. However, I do think I got enough background in this book to not feel overwhelmed or like I was totally lost.

Davi Jones is a master of puns. Suda Eran is a foxy pirate. Davi wins a trip to space, goes in search of adventure, and finds a little more than she bargained for. Davi and Suda are so cute together, but my favorite parts of this book was everything else going on. There was SO MUCH else going on! We get little glimpses of a bunch of different types of aliens, upstanding and criminal aspects of the space station, responsive vibrating body jewelry, etc. I can't wait to meet an Akrellian in the next book though!!!

I absolutely foresee myself stalking through the back catalogue at some point. I already know I want to read Kotesri's book to see what he's all about! And there are four side characters that we met in this book that I would ABSOLUTELY read their books. Ultiman, anyone???

A sweet romance for Davi and Suda

This is a sweetheart romance for Suda Eran, a foxy man and a human female Davi Jones. Suda Eran’s life has been filled with danger, fighting, and challenges. This is the way of his people. Although now with his wealth, he can choose which jobs he wants. Suda is hanging out at a former employee’s bar when a beautiful human female walks in. Davi Jones is on holiday and wants to experience what it is like in the new world with aliens and not just humans. She has saved up so much money just to afford this vacation and decided that she does not want to be stuck with the boring program. Davi literally snuck out of her assigned hotel to see the whole station. The scene with the tour guide was hilarious. This is a sweet and funny story with added internal dialogue from our main characters. There is a happy ending with it seems a potential for more books in this series. Read On!

Quick but good

Really loved this story and the little tie ins to previous stories and characters. The good thing is if you haven't read any of the prior stories none of those details confuse or interrupt your understanding or enjoyment of this one. Loved these characters, their background and the world building. This story has some action and adventure but mainly focus on the romance and relationship between our 2 main characters Davi and Suda. There are spicy times sprinkled throughout and Suda is just yummy love his jewelry and extras. This story does end on an adorable HEA. I can't wait to read more in this 'stand alone' series. I would also love to read about Arkto, Bonnie, William and Annie. Very good book would recommend.

In truth, I’m not a huge fan of furry aliens, but I was promised a Halian cameo, and since Halian is 99% of the reason why I am invested in this world, I was going to succumb eventually.

It’s a simple romcom between a fox-like alien pirate with too many (?) piercings and an excellent vacuum saleslady. Davi really is excellent at her job, and she’s delightful as a heroine. The overall banter between these two sold me on the story, and even if there was a little cringe when it came to the innuendos, I had a lot of fun.

I just wish there was a bit more to that Halian/Killer and Paisley cameo, alas. It’s not their story but I miss them!

What a love story!
I adore Davi! She’s adventurous, loves to experience new things and new beings. She’s also a fine judge of people and an excellent salesperson. I love that Suda is so intent on keeping Davi, that he under-informs her about himself so he won’t scare her off. He’s certainly determined to keep her forever. It seems, though, that trouble does follow Suda, so it isn’t a smooth sailing relationship! This story has thrills, chills, love, and laughter - I love it!

Loved it

So many stories have the main characters fighting the pull between each other, even when a character has a "true mate". It is so nice when the main characters don't, that they enjoy being with each other and both want to make the leap to commitment. It is just one of many reasons why I loved this edition to the Iriduan Universe Love Stories and highly recommend! I can't wait for the next couple that Cupid helps to bring together!

Audio book- Same narrators as My Chameleon Mate. They seem to have fun narrating these stories.

I really enjoyed the first book, My Chameleon Mate, because it made me laugh and laugh (audio book is a must). This one, sadly, did not. I did enjoy the FMC and MMC and the basic story; however, it was predictable. Also, the inner dialogues were so repetitive. It began to get boring.

Despite the above, if there's a book 3, I'm sure that I'll read it too.

Fun with a foxy male

Definitely a ROM com with some adventure thrown in for good measure. Told in a way that surprised me that I hadn't figured it out, because I was enjoying the interaction between the main characters so much. This universe can be dark, but if you need a light romantic comedy, this is a great read.

I enjoyed this story. I enjoy the no fuss and right into the love fest. I think Davi is very well open minded and I’m glad because there is so much to be judged for that looks shouldn’t be one of them. The whole epilogue is really cool too. I hope Cupid gets a story after his matches.

This was cute and I loved it, although I like an adventurous couple more than one that like settles, settles down this was still very good.
I thought her name was very punny, it actually made me chuckle.

I kept picturing the fox dude from zootopia, because my mind is cursed XD but it did somehow work with him as pirate.

Cute story

Loved the story and it was well written. My only gripe was that the MFC acted like a groupie for 20% of the book and it was very off putting. I'm all of going to gey what you want but not the way she was acting.

Fated fox

Lots of "I love him/her, but I'm too scared to tell him/her." The alien wasn't as alien as some of her other books. Otherwise, good story, few typos, medium spice, vanilla fated mate romance.
