Finally someone wrote about this character
This is a short read but yet so impactful. Easily readable in one sitting, this one can give away so many facts that turned the tide of time and created the greatest Indian Epic - The Mahabharat!
Madri had always been the unsung queen with only a small role to play! Reading about her was refreshing!

This short book is actually based on ,as thought of ,by the author on the life of Madri , the younger of two queens of king Pandu , the father of Pandavas.Very few things are known about her except the place she belonged to, her being mother of Nakul and sahdev and being ultimately the cause of death of king Pandu.So one can say the author has full creative liberty to flesh her out in this book .
Madri ,the princess belonged to kingdom of Madra and was younger sister of Shalya.she lost her heart to Pandu after seeing his picture and wanted to her wife by any means.Pandu during digvijay when reached Madra , saw her and was smitten and they got married ..However her insecurities due being other wife to Pandu , her jealousy later on with Kunti and trying to get one up to her with sad consequences consists of later story .
This book is on an emotional level and deals more with human feelings .Infact if one just erases the names of main character , it looks more like any soap opera on Tv.Scheming wife, trying to get the attention of husband is tadka of so many indian serials.The cover of the book is apt and gives a peep into the story.The language of the book is easy and the flow takes you along.
It is a quick easy read into the mind of Pandu's other queen.

Chronicles of kuru women by Priyanka bhuyan is a mythological book in which the ups and downs of royal princess face during their love life. Pandu's other queen madri is the main character of this book. She is the most beautiful women in their region as there is no comparison. But after marriage his beauty becomes the curse for his husband.

👉To retell the mahabharat without major characters like divine Krishna ,Arjun, duryodhan , the celibate bhishma or the wicked shakuni is in itself a difficult task and author has tried to retell the mahabharat in whole new perspective
👉The book introduces us to madra a nation different from bharatvarsha with its own peculiarities
👉Madri,who is just known as the mother of nakul and sehdev is explored
👉she is portrayed as a strong woman but with more feminine side
👉A beautiful but intelligent woman who is blindly in love with her husband and fought for him showing jealousy and other emotions
👉Some uniqueness I liked is this novella not only focuses on madri but also her relation with her brother shalya and how they cared for each other
👉The character of kunti as calm exhibiting queenly behaviour is wonderful the author has not degraded one character for showing other in good light which I found wonderful
👉The book follows ups and downs of Madri's life showing her emotional perspective which makes readers to relate and connect with her

The Mahabharata is known to be one of the two major well known sanskrit epics of the ancient India.
The katha includes numerous incidents and at last the win of Dharma.
We get to know about many characters like Satyavati, Bhishma, Dhritarashtr, Gandhari, Shakuni, Pandu, Kunti, and many more who have played major roles.
But, a little do we know about Madri, the second wife of Pandu.
About The Book:-
This book is about Madri, her story, her life story!
The book illustrates the feelings of Madri for her beloved husband Pandu, for Hastinapur Kingdom, for her co-wife Kunti and all the people living in the kingdom.
Madri was born in the city of Sagala and as she was the princess of Madra kingdom, hence named as Madri.
She was perfect in every aspect ; beautiful and ambitious.
However, she fell in love with Pandu, the great warrior king of Hastinapur who had a burden of guilt in his heart for overtaking the right of his elder brother Dhritarashtra.
Madri was so in love with Pandu even before seeing him.
With a proper planning and plotting with her brother Shalya, the king of Madra kingdom, Madri was married to Pandu.
Being Pandu's wife was something she wished for but she hated the fact that she would have to share her husband with another woman. She was always to come second, as the Chief queen Kunti had a higher place and a bigger right on Pandu than Madri.
This whole thing infuriated Madri forever making her more jealous for she wanted Pandu wholly, completely.
And a day came, when the fate of Pandu was decided when he unknowingly shot the shabd-bhedi arrow at Rishi Kindam and his wife.
With his dying breath, Rishi Kindam gave a curse to Pandu that not only changed his whole life, but also turned the future of Hastinapur kingdom upside down.
What was the curse? Why did he curse Pandu? What happened next?
The story of Madri, the other queen of Pandu, is not discussed much but the role of Madri has an equally important part in the Mahabharata, that has its marks on the history of Hastinapur.

Madri is the princess of Madra Kingdom and is a descendant of Great king Shibi who once saved a dove that was attacked by an eagle for food, eagle demanded his rights for eating the dove but instead of giving the dove to the eagle, the great king offered his muscle in respect of Dove weight.
Princess of Madra has never been allowed to hold a swayamvar for themselves because there is a tradition in the madra to barter means the groom's side has to give lots of dowry to the bride's side then marriage could happen.
Madri has heard a lot of King of hastinapur Pandu and his excellency and since then she started feeling something for him when shalya her brother showed the picture of King Pandu she was mesmerized and wanted to marry him but he recently got married to Kunti, when madri heard this she was heartbroken but her brother consolidated her that king can marry on his choice.

When I was reading some scenes of the book I was impressed by the realistic experience of the story, it was like I was watching a series of Mahabharata once again.

I would like to recommend this book to mythological lovers and also if you have an interest in Indian mythology stories then I can guarantee you that you are gonna love this little illustration presented by the author, which has the dramatic experience of Mahabharata tales.

My Views:
One of the epics that were proudly owned by our Indians, Mahabharatha has several tales, morals, and chronicles in it. This is the story of “Madri”, one of King Pandu’s wives, and her life chronicles. Madri (Who seems to be a synonym for beauty) hails from the Madra kingdom born in the city of Sagala.
This book was out and out written from the POV of Madri, it was a verbal treat to explore the struggle and the consequences Madri faced in her life. Ever since the tales of reading, listening to, and watching Mahabharata, it so happened to me that the story of Madri is much underrated. We get to know the insights of Madri and her ancestors, the generous & selfless King Shibi. We also get to experience her bonding with her brother Shalya who helps in getting her married to King Pandu and her ultimate journey race towards the throne plus the city she was born, Sagala.
Verdict:
This is the second book that I picked from the author’s three-book series (till today). She fulfills the thirst of readers who wish to read and experience the women characters that are significant in the entire Mahabharata. From portraying Madri who hails from the Madra Kingdom and her ultimate struggle to attain Queen Profile in the Kuru Dynasty, the author succeeded both in plot and storyline.
If you wish to read and experience the untold or underrated stories of Mahabharata, especially from the women’s front, Priyanka’s books are saviors. The author didn’t leave her style of feminism, mythological touch, gripping narration, lucid style, and intrigue building. Full marks to the author for bringing the entire gist of Madri’s life in a short book of 60 pages.
What needs improvement:
1. Switch between character to Character conversations can be revisited.
2. Ignorable print and linguistic mistakes

“Battles are won by the mind, Madri, then than weapons. If you can break the confidence and mental strength of your enemy, you can turn the tide of any battle.”
I sincerely wish Author to write more and more of this kind of tale and to break down plot complexities with her writing style to make it simple and easily understandable which eventually makes us feel proud and enlightened that have origin in our Bharatha Bhumi.

Madri is the princess of Madra. She is the most beautiful princess in the Bharatvarsha and a marvellous horse rider. Book is completely about her life and her extreme love. Also, Madri was more remembered as the beloved wife of Pandu than the mother of the Pandava twins Nakula and Sahadeva.

The Mahabharat is a treasure trove of various human emotions and characters and stories, all of which in the end culminates in warfare. And every tale preaches human evolution and the need to change. This unique edition of Pandu’s Other Queen, is about madri (her)former life.
Madri was born and raised in the city of Sagala, which was the Capital town. Although born as the Princess of Madra kingdom, she was named the same, which was also signified as 'Lady of the Madras'. Later, someday when the moment was upheld madri fell in love with the mighty warrior king of Hastinapur,
Madri was completely smitten by his existence. Deader got married to Pandu. Unraveling the conflict between Pandu and his brother shalya, the ruler of the Madra kingdom.
Somewhere, in between the disputes, Madri gets envious of Kunti as she has to share his husband with her. Madri was Pandu's, second wife though.
one dreadful day had made their lives cursed. Everything with them has become worse. Due to the curse being given by Rishi Kindam, saying I Rishi Kindam, curse you that if you ever get intimate with a woman your death will be imminent.” Saying the sage breathed his last.
Why did Pandu's second wife get jealous? What happens to the Pandu family, why did rishi kindam curse their lives? What happened to Hastinapur? Who won the battle?
Personal insight: it had 9 chapters and trust me it was worth reading. And I hardly pick historic reads. So it was quite odd for me, but I enjoyed reading. So this was something fascinating and enduring. It is Mythical fiction. Language is lucid. I would suggest you read previous volumes too. Jumping to alternative volumes won't get you refined knowledge. To maintain the sequence:) happy reading 📖

Although it was only available in the Kindle version and I am fond of reading the book with my hand, I was so excited by its title and cover page that I started reading it from the phone.
This is probably the first book written on the second queen or first lover of King Pandu. I have not read so much about this character (Madri) anywhere before.The author has so beautifully decorated the character of Madri on the pages that after reading this, you will also be compelled to think whether it would be right to call Madri the queen of the Kuru dynasty or a great lover.While reading it may seem as if Madri is a selfish person, but by the time you complete the book, you will understand that this character had nothing but love. This rendition of mythological story interpretation of Pandu’s other queen is quite unusual. I have read about Mahabharata characters through a few reinterpretations in the book “Jaya” by Devdutt Pattanaik and “The Palace of Illusions” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. But this book is just a wrap-up synopsis of one of the under-shadowed persona from the Kuru dynasty.
The story revolves around Pandu’s second queen Madri. Author has perfectly showcased the background of the King Shibi and highlighted his generosity and selflessness. There’s a very simple representation of Madri’s eternal love for Pandu, and the keen interest to be his favorite wife. This story takes numerous twists and turns in terms of women’s desires and Kingdom’s responsibilities.
I also liked the fact that the author has emphasized on women’s empowerment topics via a very thin line of interrogative sentences. Some are as follows:
- “I developed a dislike for Bhishma. Who was he to decide the fate of three maidens?”
- “My heart went out to the two Queens. How can a woman compromise her heart for the sake of progeny? Wasn’t it unfair on the part of Kurus and Dharma?”
- “Alas! Were women no better than cattle?”
- “Are you willing to compromise for the sake of your love? Its irony, isn’t it, all for love and to what extent do you have to go for it?”

Mahabharata is said to be the greatest epic ever written and it unleashes “life” for every single one of us. No matter how different our opinions and perspectives towards life may be. It works and teaches us all something. Author Priyanka has, in her book “Pandu’s Other Queen: Chronicles of Kuru Woman- VOL III,” brought out the story of Madri, the princess of Madras. The love that she felt for Pandu was madness (of sorts) and brought upon them doom. Madri could not get enough of Pandu and was always jealous of Kunti, who was a dutiful wife and accepted her place in Pandu’s life and as a Kuru queen. Madri could think of nothing else but keeping Pandu attracted towards her. If you are unaware of what happened and how, read it now. I guarantee that you will not be bored.

✨Being a courageous, ambitious woman madri disliked many ferocious acts of Dharma like 'niyoga'.

In the question of heart and head, who is going to win?
Madri, wife of Pandu is blogged by this question. A princess and now wife of a king, she always wanted a life filled with her husband’s wife. But seldom do we get things that we want.
The curse of the sage on Pandu, stops him from building any relationship with her. And being the second wife of Pandu, Madri is filled with jealously against Kunti - first wife of Pandu.

From grandmother bedtime Stories to graphic movies we came to learn so many things from our epics but they are not complete people forget some of the important characters they too played important roles.
Reading books on these characters and listing these stories from the other charactes perception always enlighten me with so much knowledge and of course so many questions.
This book too falls under this category this book is about Pandu's other queen( Madri) and most people don't know her. This piece is like a life summary of Madri who loved pandu with her whole heart even before he married Kunti.
At that times kings practiced polygamy, she has to share her husband with the Kunti chief queen of kuru. No women want to share her love for her husband with other, the jealousy and envy that is borne inside her on Kunti surrounded her.
Due to jealousy and possession over their husband she faced so many challenges she even lost her husband and her life too.

The journey of Mahabharata is filled with the names of women folk who have imprinted their charisma, resilience, and valor that is sung like a timeless song that would enlighten the women of generations to be like them and make their stand in the course of history.
But as 'Mahabharata' is so enormous and grand, it has a lot of characters that never get the light that could introduce people to their role in the greater good of history.
Today I would like to share a beautiful retelling of the greatest epic 'Mahabharata' that tells the story of Raja Pandu's Second wife 'Madri' the princess of Madra Desh (signifying Lady of the Madras).
It's a short 60-page novel that sincerely narrates the life of Madri and sails through her life, from her early days to the end.
The experience of reading this book was nice, as the author has tried to give her a proper character and you get to understand her life not just through the author's words but as an important person whose story shouldn't go unheard.
I liked the narration of this book, as it's short but doesn't feel like the author is trying to add additional information to make the book lengthy so it recounts the story with a singular perspective and doesn't unnecessarily evade its course and respects the integrity of the original story.

I don't think I have ever given much thought about Pandu, other than the fact that he was the sickly father of the Pandavas and he died young. That's it. Also, I completely forgot about Madri, the mother of Nakulya and Sahadeva. Kunti was always highlighted in the epic. Madri seemed like a love struck teenager in the book, blindly obsessed with a good looking guy, bluntly put 😂. But her character was very interesting! So, apart from a few grammatical mistakes/ printing mistakes, this was a fresh read and good take on Mahabharata. A good quick read for all mythology fans! 👍 And the ending was very very romantic 🥰.

When it comes to Mahabharata, there are so many underrated characters to explore that sometimes it makes me stop and ponder upon them.
Through her book “Pandu’s Other Queen”, author Priyanka introduces us to yet another lesser known and talked about character that is Madri, Pandu’s other queen and the mother of Nakul and Sahadev. This book traces her journey as the second queen of Pandu and her struggles to make a mark on the history of the Kuru dynasty.
To begin with, I had no idea about the character of Madri other than her being Pandu’s wife so I couldn’t even imagine her playing any significant role in the epic tale. However, this book kind of reshaped my idea of Mahabharata as well as the character of Madri.
Honestly, in this book, Madri is basically portrayed as a woman who is obsessed with her husband and can see nothing and no one beyond him. She is portrayed as a woman blindly dedicated to her husband. It was interesting studying her character throughout the story. We get to see a very different side of her story that is not very often accounted for.
It’s a very short read that I think can be read in a single sitting. The story is relatively fast-paced and maintains a steady flow of narration throughout. I have read earlier works by the author and overall, enjoyed reading this one too.

Voices of women have always got stiffled in this patriarchal way of living that our society has embedded in its psuche. It is not lost on us that great epics like Mahabharata or Ramayana, too, have simply put their women characters aside and forgot that they too have a voice. That their part of the stories needed to be viewed and understood. That it was and is important to see these great epics that have stood for the richness of this country for eons, through their eyes as well.

Mahabharata has many characters and we hardly know about all the characters. We know about Some important characters which played major role like Krishna, Pandavas, Karna and kauravas. But we hardly know about some people who were there but didn't get much needed attention.
I am talking about one such character whom we all know as Nakul and Sahadev's mother but do we know about her past?? Her nature?? I think,nope. Read this book to get to know her.
This book which is third part in chronicles of kuru woman talks about a pandu's second wife Madri. Madri was the princess of Madra Kingdom and was closed to her brother shalya. She always wanted to marry in kshatriya family and rule as a queen.
Her wish came true when pandu fall in love with her beauty and got married to her. She was possesive about pandu and was jealous when Pandu talks about his first wife kunti. Author talks about a boon which ruined her life and how with the help of kunti,she was blessed with twin boys.
I really enjoyed this short yet interesting book. I came to know different side of madri which I wasn't aware of. It's good to know about different characters when they are written in detail.

In the spree of looking Mahabharata from different perspectives here we add the perspective of Queen Madri - the second wife of Maharaj Pandu and the princess of madras.
Very little is known about her and this book shows us her small journey and part played in the epic. She was a princess raised in the comforts of palace and lived in forest for atonement of sins of her husband. She is also the mother to the talented twins - Nakul & Sahdev. Later on her brother played an important role in the epic battle.
The language is simple to follow and keeps the readers bound to the book. Being a book of less than 100 pages it is a quick read which you can finish in one sitting or two. I found the writing style similar to Chitra Mam's. This book explores the unexplored area of Mahabharata much before the story of five brothers. The thing I found disturbing was that Kunti was showing in a gray character but maybe that's the beauty of the mythological fiction and aren't we all villains in someone's story. So I think I can go with the fact that co-queens can be jealous of each other and maybe they were villains in each other's story. Her love and her fight for the one she loved is beautifully portrayed. If you are interested in mythological fiction you can definitely go for this book.

Mahabharata is beautiful, as it also significantly incorporates lesser-known characters. Priyanka Bhuyan brings another underrated character Madri through her book, “Pandu’s Other Queen,” the third installment of, “Chronicles of Kuru Woman.”
Madri, the second wife of Pandu and mother of Nukul and Sahdev. Madri, princess of Madra and sister of Shalya. She was obsessed with Pandu and eagerly wanted to be his queen. Finally! Pandu laid his eyes on Madri, got smitten with her beauty, and eloped with her. She was jealous of Kunti and wanted to be loved by her husband, the first wife of Pandu, and these insecurities and possessiveness led to a sad event in her life.

Mythology is one of my favorite genres. Without a doubt, the epic of Mahabharata is at the top of the list. The story of the Mahabharata has always fascinated me. With hundreds of strong characters, especially women characters, valor, sacrifice, conspiracies and grandeur, it is really an epic. Recently I have started reading more books on the women of our mythology. The women of Mahabharata were strong, valiant and equally, if not more, quick-witted. Pandu's Other Queen, is one such amazing book that talks about the most under-highlighted Queen of Hastinapur, Madri. Cursed by a sage, Pandu is unable to build any relationship with Madri, which poses a big question of who will become his heir. Kunti having a boon from the Gods is blessed with sons which makes Madri jealous and feel inferior. However, this is not where her story ends. Read on this book to know what happened to Madri. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. The author has very intricately woven this age-old epic in her own words. The narration is simply awesome and makes you get lost in the pages. It is a very short read of 60 pages which makes it really enjoyable for everyone.

The story starts with the verses of Madri itself where she defines her feelings towards the Aryavrat where the author creates a question that creates a lot of engagement on the oldest story of certain hidden truths. The author even represents the little different thoughts of Madri when she was introduced to the system of Swavyamvar. The little details of her life have been defined nicely.
All those stories of her life have been full of ambition and passion for everything she desired in her life. Her views regarding Aryavrat have been negative yet her ambitions made her desire a little more about her life.
All those ideas and expressions of her desires make her in between those cunning games of riches.
I loved the way the whole story is made within the best detail. The 66 pages of the book do verify justice to the content. No doubt the cover of the book catches your eye and shows you a lot of designs with simplicity.
This book is going to be one of the favorites for people who prefer the mythological genre.
