In My Darkest Hour is a poem of reminiscing. It really leaves no description or depiction as this is poetry taken to the next level. The central themes are based on betrayal and heartache with just the right doses of problems facing us all in our everyday lives. It is a new vista to how the prism of poetry will be viewed.
I love discovering new authors and writers- and with poetry you truly get an insight into the writers heart and soul through their work. I’ve read these poems a few times now - as they draw you in emotionally. The honesty and passion is clearly and beautifully expressed. The central themes are based on betrayal and heartache with just the right doses of problems facing us all in our everyday lives. I love the effective use of metaphor and personification in ‘Winds’ and ‘The Sun’, but the two poems that really made me feel so emotional whilst reading them were ‘ Cruel Joke’ and ‘Afloat’ - so much raw emotion! An outstanding poetry collection.
The poems were intellectual, fierce and heartfelt. The author shared not only the dark hours of his life, but also the bitter truth of the social injustice in his country. The choice of the pages’ background was pleasing to the eyes and I am delighted with the thoughtful addition of the story behind some of the poems in this book. Congratulations, Joseph!
