A powerful wizard named Terek believes it is his destiny to rule the land. To fulfill that destiny he raises an army and subjugates a dragon to his will. He will let nothing stand in his way. Legendary heroes, who are neither alive, nor dead, gather champions from across the land to oppose the wizard and safeguard freedom.
A knight, sent on a quest by a desparate king, nears his goal of finding Terek’s brother, Arakon. It is believed that only Arakon has the power to challenge his brother. But in order to reach him, he will need to travel through Darkwood, a forest guarded by undead creatures and elves aligned with Terek.
Another group of heroes is led by a crusader with a tragic past and an illusionist fighting to save her marriage. They need to travel the barbaric hills of Taiga and the plains of Parthea, not realizing that Terek has already endeared himself to the Partheans under the guise of a prophet sent by their god.
I absolutely love this book...! The texture of the pages make reading such a rich experience ..I had not read a fantasy book in years and am definitely going to read the series...it is full of magic and I feel like I am on horseback on the quest for truth...! Thank you for this experience..Everyone who walks in the house and sees the book cover mention how beautiful it is....
I read this book a couple of years ago, when it was available on Amazon. This is an epic tale of the struggle between 'good' and 'evil', as experienced by a wide range of characters in different groups across a detailed word. It is clear that the author put a lot of time and effort into creating this universe and ensuring that all of the characters' storylines intersected in a smooth fashion, instead of the disjointed nature you can sometimes see in other books. As a reader, it takes a little time to get into the story because there are so many different characters at first, and you do need to invest in it a bit to really pick up on the different plot threads and see where everything is going. This is probably the main weakness of the book: so many characters at once means there isn't an instant 'hook', but those who read on will see a payoff.
If you like an epic fantasy story with a big cast of characters, then you should give the Verdan Chronicles a try.
