(1) I really like the first story "Two Boxes"! It's based on Japanese folklore about a bird, a kind old man and a greedy old woman (and it's basically a Japanese version of 'The Honest Woodcutter' ('the Golden Ax and the Sliver Ax').
Plus the yokai-bird who called himself 'the Master of the Garden', is he actually the mixture of a yokai-bird and the spirit of the young woman's late father? Since the yokai-bird keeps addressing himself as the young woman's 'Father'.
(2) I also like the final story, which addresses the danger of humans making deals with the yokai, and how the MC's grandparents first met each other. LOL
(3) I really like the third story, which is about the spirit of a dead child, a family who moved into the house and a young would-be-mother's regret.
(4) The second story is a bit confusing so I like it a bit less, however, it is still a good morale tale of a sort? This time the MC's college schoolmate is being haunted?
