Jaylen Halverson was just nine years old when his life changed forever. His mother, knowing she was going to be leaving them, made arrangements for Jay and his sister to be adopted by a wonderful family. Throughout her illness, she extracted promises from Jay that have dictated many of his decisions and choices throughout his life. Holding tightly to those promises and wanting to make his mom and adopted family proud, Jay has kept certain things hidden because they were in direct opposition to what his mom wanted for him. A desire for a safer life has brought Michelle Barnes to Serenity Point. She’d become a doctor to serve the low-income community she’d grown up in. However, when her older brother brings danger to their family’s doorstep, it becomes necessary to escape the city she’d planned to devote her life to. With her mother and niece--now her adopted daughter--in tow, Misha tries to embrace a new life as a doctor in the Halversons’ family clinic in a community far from the type she’d been part of in Atlanta. The Halversons welcome Misha and her family to Serenity Point, happy to have her filling an important role in their clinic. After a long-term relationship left him broken, Jay isn't sure he'll ever be able to have the type of relationship his parents have. However, Misha's arrival in his life brings Jay renewed hope and a desire to try again.
In Jay, Misha finds a man to admire. One committed to his family—both blood and adopted. A man who brings a smile to her face and makes her wonder if perhaps the dream of a family she’d set aside could be realized with him.
Like magnets, they are drawn to each other. But will unexpected events in their lives be the flipside of the magnets, pushing them apart and breaking both their hearts? I really enjoy this series of books! But mostly, I enjoy how well written they are, and how Ms Jordan weaves her stories with her words, and as well as telling us a story, she teaches us with how her characters be behaving, how they get through challenges or how they don't get through challenges! These books also make you think how would you handle that if you were in that place? Sometimes it just can give you an idea of how to handle something if you're ever in a place or situation similar! I find such a wonderful consistency in Kimberly, Rae Jordan's writing! I can't say enough good about these books!
I love this series!! It has been fun getting to know this family. The author makes the characters so believable that you think they are real friends that you want to get to know.
Jaylen was such a sweet read. This is the second book in the Halversons series, and I’m really enjoying this series so far. The books are light and easy to read, yet still very sweet and engaging.
One thing I love about this author’s writing is how well you get to know the characters. Each person feels relatable, and you can easily imagine how they think and feel as their stories unfold throughout the series.
In this book, Misha is the new doctor at the Halversons clinic. She’s new to the area, and a romance slowly begins to bloom between her and Jaylen. While their relationship isn’t without a few bumps along the way, I appreciated how real and honest their emotions felt as they adjusted to new situations and to each other.
Overall, Jaylen is a sweet love story and a comforting, enjoyable read. If you like gentle romance with relatable characters, this one is definitely worth picking up. 💕
This book had a great faith element to it, but I didn’t feel much beyond the day to day things of life within the story. Written well, and interesting points here and there, but as a whole, there wasn’t much beyond that to hold my interest.
If you want to sit down with a feel-good book with strong faith ties, this should be right up your ally. I did enjoy parts of it, but most of the emotions and thoughts from the characters seemed to repeat themselves (or were very similar to the first book) and therefore I didn’t feel it brought enough newness to the story for me to continue with the series. The whole family dynamic is interesting and I can see why people are invested and want to read the whole series to see how each of the siblings grow up and finds their special someone.
This is a nice book in the Halversons series, though a bit lower on the rating scale for me than Gareth. Initially when I started to read this book, I kind of thought it emphasized more on the race aspect and even thought how the story would have moved if Jay was not black.
I really liked the way the story progressed because if the story took the route of getting Casey involved with Misha as Nora did with Aria, I would have finished this book and probably not continued the series.
But on the whole it delivered the feeling this series promised but not to the mark of the first book.
I am really intrigued for the third one where it is Janessa and Will (out of all the people).

I have read several of Kimberly Rae Jordan's books, which are ALL very good, but this storyline hit it out of the park! I'm not sure why it impacted me as much as it did, but I absolutely did not want to put this book down! I loved the story, the characters, just everything about this story. This is the 2nd book in The Halversons series. I can't wait to get to the next. I highly suggest you take a look at any of Kimberly Rae Jordan's books. You definitely won't be disappointed!!!
A great story about forgiving oneself for bad decisions and the consequences. Finding love unexpectedly and realizing that the love from family and friends can be steadfast Jaylen had to learn that what is hidden eventually come to light. Misha loved Jaylen and didn’t give up on him Second chances for Jaylen helped him find himself again and grow closer to his family Great job Kimberly, some real life lessons in your story that every reader should learn from
I recommend you read the first book (Gareth) in this series before this one. This is a good addition to the Halversons series, and I liked it. It starts out at a fairly relaxed pace, but things get tense when Jay needs to learn some things about communication and letting your family help you. I like getting to know the characters better, and can't wait for #3! I like the pacing of Jordan's books, and I like the big families and how they interact together.
Misha is a doctor who serves the underprivileged in Atlanta. Her older brother is a gang leader. A rival gang targets Misha. She must flee. She's hired as a doctor for a clinic in Northern Idaho. Kimberly Rae Jordan has written a romance with a white family who has adopted two black children and other children along with their birth children. Struggles are a big part of this story. Jordan is a sensitive author of many books.
It was nice to read a book written about a black couple. I also enjoy the Halverson family involvement. My husband and I have been married almost 47 years. The Lord brought him to my front door (wonderful story.) We combined my 2 sons with his 4... and then a year later we adopted 2 of our foster sons. You did a great job of identifying emotions and actions of step children.
This was a wonderful story about a new couple in the Halverson universe. I’m glad that the author is sensitive to what God wants to do to restore His people when they fail. Jaylen needed to hear that when he finds out he has a son and his mother doesn’t want him anymore. The introspection he experiences almost ruins all his relationships, but God doesn’t want him to stay in the guilt trap so he gets back to Misha and they work it out.
This was a good story about finding true love. Misha was a doctor , living in Atlanta, she worked in a clinic for the underprivileged. Gangs were the problem. Her brother was killed, then she had taken his child, after it was born. Her mother, Denise, cream for the baby. Misha knew they had to leave Atlanta, for safety reasons. Her benefactor saw an advertisement for a MD in Idaho and referred her there. More to come, enjoy
This is a very enjoyable, inspiring and encouraging story. You think when you mess up your family will be disappointed in you. Jaylen had that experience. The outcome for him is so encouraging and inspiring. Please read this book. I am looking forward to the next one.
I have read not all but most of Kimberly Rae Jordan’s books. I really am a fan and enjoy her light hearted romance stories but this one wasn’t my favorite. I truly like her older series better, so far New Hope Falls and the Halversons are my least favorite of her series. I definitely won’t stop reading her books but I haven’t felt was connected with these stories lately.
I've loved getting to know these wonderful Halved sons family. What a great group of caring , loving and supporting characters. The ups and downs right and or wrong choices in life are teachable moments that shape ones character . I can't wait to read the next book in this inspiring and uplifting series. Enjoy.
I devoured the first two books in the series yesterday and today. They are THAT good. I love how the author shows that there is redemption in the midst of our past coming to light. We may try to hide what we've done, but God knows and He welcomes us back with open arms. I love how she portrayed the struggles of POC as well. It was a great book!
Continues to grow with weddings but who wants that headache per Jay and his friend, Will. Then Miasha interviewed with Jay in hopes of being employed by Jay’s family clinic. And the story begins. Enjoy enjoy enjoy.
Okay so she had to leave her job in Atlanta and move her daughter and mom to be safe. He ends up finding a surprise from his pass. They have some very hard times ahead of them.
I can't quite imagine a move from the South to the Pacific Northwest, but sometimes a doctor goes where she's needed. Jaylen learns to depend on others and the very real need for good communication. So fun to spend more time with the Halverson family.
I loved that Michelle could forgive his past and love his little boy. Shocked how a mother could abandon a 6 yr old child. I loved that the family could forgive Jay' poor decisions in the past. I highly recommend this story.
Kimberly Rae Jordan is new to me, but I have read the first two novels in this series and am eager to read whatever she writes. The characters are memorable and endearing.
Jay and Misha find friendship and love in this sweet story. Building a relationship on faith grounds them when they lose their footing and happiness seems out of reach.
Kimberly never fails to write real people and real issues! She does it without descriptive sex and foul words. The way she weaves hope, redemption, and God in each of her books and series is amazing!
Wow this is what I all a true perfect real.life long story. As we all know there are lots of trials in real life and these characters really had their share and more. Great job of writing.
A beautiful story of how God brought two people together even when they were not looking for love and even through difficult circumstances. God’ plan is always best and sweet!
The epilogue answers my question from Gareth: yes, Aria contacted her half brother & met both him & his mother. This story has a few twists. Jaylen is forced to publicly admit to failures. He can no longer hide them. He and his family accept Peyton into their family.
Unlike the Halversons Book 1, which took me almost two weeks to read, Jaylen held my interest from page one. My other favorite book by this author is "Marrying Kate." Both of the books kept me turning the page to see what happens next.
