You think your parents are bad? Try having the devil as your father.
I'd had enough of all the expectations and rules that come with being the next in line for Hell’s throne. I was tired of the constant fight over my so-called duty. There was only one answer - to run away to the human realm. My only goal---to prove to the old man that I could be free and make a name for myself, without the stigma of being Lucifer's daughter to bolster me.
Years pass and I'm on the cusp of making a multi-million dollar deal when four Otherworld beings show up, demanding that I return to Hell. This wasn't my fathers first attempt at luring me back to him, but this was the first time he found the right kind of temptation---bait so sexy that I was sure to fall into his trap. Too bad for him I was not so easily fooled.
I can out seduce a casanova.
I can play fist-a-cuffs with a beast.
I can out maneuver a general.
And I can roll the dice with a gambler.
Because these four men have never danced with the devil’s daughter before, and I never lose.
Author Note: This is a Reverse Harem standalone novel about a demon, her four horsemen, and the hilarious road it took five headstrong beings to come together... Oh and a crazy celestial family to boot.
3.5 stars. Not a bad book, but really the only redeeming things about it was the hot smut, and the interactions between main characters and Lucifer and Reginald…otherwise it was kind of boring. It was violent and had a few fun moments but mostly it was sort of repetitive and there just weren’t high enough stakes throughout to make it truly interesting. The biggest plot point was only introduced in the last few chapters so.
The first chapter ruined the entire book for me. The opening is literally one of the MMCs fucking the OW and showing how much of a manhoe he and his brothers are. He has slept with thousands of women, and apparently the FMC is the special one. Well, I’m not even going to bother because I hated the first chapter and yeah…😪
Here is the opening:
“Oh fuck! Oh yes, baby! YES!” Her screams were making my ears twitch, it was like nails on a chalkboard, and nothing about that was sexy. It almost wasn't worth the power dump. I was at the point that I was just fucking her fast and hard to get this shit over with. I was good at what I did though, so I made an effort. I lifted her leg to get the angle she needed and stuffed her good and deep until she squealed like a pig.”
“As soon as my power was trans yanked my dick out, tucked myself back in, and zipped up my pants as quickly as I could. She pushed up off the desk, breathy, eyes glazed, legs dangling over the edge I just fucked her on, and stuck her lip out. “Leaving so soon?”I resisted rolling my eyes at the idiot. This was also why my brothers and I usually stuck with our regulars—the ones who knew the deal and didn't try for what they wouldn't get—but my regular, Kara, was running a job for her master, and couldn't make our scheduled time. She promised me that this new girl could fulfill my needs, and she did, but I was accustomed to a much better level of service. Ugh. It’s just so hard to find adequate workers nowadays. “This is the deal, darling, but you should have a full tummy, so let's not complain.” 🤢
Hold those pearls ladies, this is a SMUTTY 🥵 18+ reverse harem paranormal romance that will have you blushing ! 🔥🖤
Lillian is a she-demon. Not like any regular demon, she's the spawn of Lucifer himself: half angel, half demon. She's powerful, badass, sexy and overly confident as any demon should be 😏 she resides in the human world where she has established a successful business empire. Sex is a constant element in Lillian's life, she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. What she didn't expect, was the four horsemen that were coming for her, and how much these men would affect her. 🔥
Con, War, Fame and D were once prisoners, awaiting until the day they would be called upon. If it wasn't for Lucifer freeing them, who knows how long they would have been locked up for. They have a debt to pay and they won't let anything or anyone get in their way ... that is, until they come face to face with the irresistible Lillian Darkstar.
Prepare yourselves for a TON of amazingly hot sex, a strong and powerful female lead and 4 males that will have you drooling. 🥵🔥
I had so much fun with this story. I am a sucker for why choose romances and I absolutely loved the four horsemen. Each man was deliciously sinful and I felt like the author did a good job at making each one stand out from the other.
Even better news is that this is a stand alone novel, so you get your satisfying ending. Seriously had so much fun reading this!
S0000 I’ve read quite a few spicy books this year, but Reluctant Queen may be my hottest read of 2022!! I devoured this beast in a matter of two days and loved every moment with feisty Lillian and her four badass horsemen of the apocalypse.
I found myself completely OBSESSED with the premise: each male has their turn to seduce and trick Lucifer's daughter to return to Hell at long last to serve as queen while her father tends to vital business with concerning the Angels and even the Creator himself. I thought this was a BRILLIANT choice on the author's part to give us, through Lillian, the chance to genuinely fall head-over-heels for each and get to know them all.
The worldbuilding for Heaven and Hell (especially the depiction of the Seven Circles and their corresponding Princes) was so fascinating and well-developed without being too much or overbearingly religious. My favorite part was seeing Lillian and her Mates bond at her beloved home and that epic ending HOLY SHIT. And do not even get me started on the smutty scenes--so well done, seriously--I have no words, they're just so damn good.
This binge-worthy book is perfect for 18+ readers who love why choose romance set in a hardcore paranormal world!! Definitely gonna go down in history as one of my fave why choose romances ever.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.
I’m so impressed with this book! It was so much fun to read and I just love an FMC who is a Bad Bitch.
In this book we have an FMC, Lillian, who is Lucifer’s daughter. She and her dad had a huge blowout some years ago and Lillian ran from hell in order to build a kingdom in the human realm. She needed to do this to prove she was more than “Lucifer’s daughter.”
Lillian is an awesome FMC! She’s fierce and vicious! She’s cunning and intelligent. I loved all the many facets of her personality.
Lucifer is pretty desperate to get his daughter back to hell. There is some shit going down and he needs Lillian to take over. Unfortunately for him Lillian has absolutely no desire to return. So he calls in a favor owed to him by the four horsemen.
The four horsemen are charged with bringing Lillian back to hell. Are they up for the job?? 😂
Ok, this book has a fun story with tons and tons of steam! It’s a 5/5 of the steaminess scale. If you don’t want a lot of smut then skip this one.
-Multiple first person POV - Angels, demons, God - 4 Horsemen - 🔥 fast burn - 🌶️ 5/5 spicy stars - 🚫 No triggers, No MM, No cheating or OW/OM drama - Story set: heaven, hell, earth - PNR/Fantasy RH
Probably more of a 3.5 ⭐️ I liked the concept of this book, it was fun. I enjoyed the first half more than the second although the group activities at the end were a good time. I’m just not a fan of ‘breaking the fourth wall’ / inner monologues in books, I felt like there was a lot of that.
Absolutely loved this book perfect balance between badass fmc but not to in your face and amazing at absolutely everything they do. Loved the men the plot was really good and wasn’t all chucked in your face at once really good writing
Ok, this is my first ARC read and I went in completely blind, out of left field. I new it was a paranormal romance which is my go to for sure but I had no idea what to expect. I am 100% on board to Stan with Kira Stanley! I love her ability to bring a characters individual personality to life and give each of them their own space, time and story arc. I love they all have realistic flaws and passions but still live have enough craziness to let you be in that fantasy paranormal romance that takes you out of the real world.
The spice is hot from page one! The humor is on point and after you meet the feisty FMC, her 4 mates and are all invested, thinking: ok… what’s the story actually going to be, just a typical enemies to lovers? Close proximity?
It wasn’t what I expected at all!! You’ve got to meet these horsemen and the daughter of Lucifer herself , Lillian Darkstar to find out.
Get ready to do some one 🤚 reading with this one!! As soon as I saw why choose, hot demoness (who also happened to be Lucifer’s daughter), & the Four Horsemen OH I was so in. Lillian Darkstar has created her business from the ground up after escaping Hell & her father. The Four Horsemen owe Lucifer a debt from releasing them from the clutches of Heaven. Now each of them get a chance at seducing Lillian back to Hell. This book was amazing I truly enjoyed the banter, the smut, and the growing relationship between all of them.
A why choose, paranormal, lost heir, forced mates romance. This book was so good! On one side we have Lillian, Lucifer’s daughter and on the other hand we have the four horsemen. Lillian is strong, powerful, badass, and confident. The four horsemen were sinfully delicious, each character was different, and stood out. I really enjoyed this twist on a known tale and I loved that this was a standalone. This book was hot, captivating, and these five were off the charts!
I couldn't make it past a few pages. This read was beyond cheesy, the writing was like a teenager trying way to hard. Big fancy brands are thrown around here, while our demons/angel/ four horsemen act and sound like children. To ridiculous to even be fantasy.
Hell is one of my favorite settings, and I always love any book that includes Lucifer. This novel made me laugh and sob like a little baby and I really enjoyed it.
The FMC is a strong, independent daughter of Lucifer (and a deceased Angel) who has fled Hell and is trying to make a Kingdom for herself in the human realm. Lucifer desperately wants her back and has tried just about everything until he decides to cash in his favor to the Four Horsemen.
Famine was my number 1. He's the detached smart one of the group who brings some more control into Lillian's life. Some of the scenes in which he was domming her could be considered a little cheesy, but I enjoyed it all the same.
War would be my second favorite because of how absolutely devoted and obsessed he was for her immediately. He knew she was something special, his mate, and never wanted to let her go. I love it when the biggest, strongest guy turns out to be the softest teddy bear for his woman.
Conquest would be my third favorite, and I'm gonna be honest, it's entirely based on the first sexual scene with him and Lillian. She lowkey dommed him and it was so so good and he took it really well I just loved that dynamic and was hoping they'd play it out some more.
Death would be my least favorite and not for particularly any reason I just wasn't as enamored with him as the others. He was a hardass and was still loveable but I just didn't connect with his character a ton.
Lucifer was probably the best character of this entire novel. He was the crazy, humorous guy this type of story needs. I really loved his antics and his and his daughter's relationship. Any story where the King of Hell goes a little crazy is great.
The certain part before the epilogue (you know what I'm talking about) made me SOB. DIE. CRASH. My emotions were SO high, and it's not every day a book, especially a standalone, can make me feel such deep things. But I LOVE that it did. Overall this was a really nice story that I would recommend to anyone who's new with RH books. It's a good starting point, I think!
I enjoyed this book. I loved her exploits, I felt her emotions as my own. Boy, I was angry and hurt alongside her when each of the men she had a connection with betrayed her after something amazing happened. She was made perfectly for each of the Horseman. Not knowingly, she led them on a merry chase for some much needed “stress release”, and enjoyed it as much as the guys. I love a fmc that can own it. Confidence, heart, sass, kick a$$ fighting skills, a deep sea knowing of what was right and what was wrong and acting on it. I loved she was helping everyone, and didn’t have a prejudice against “others” and “demons”. I loved reading how each guy, when researching her, instantly respected her. For what she has accomplished for herself and helped others along the way. It broke my heart to read how they each betrayed her when she was vulnerable, but I did a fist pump each time she thawrted their plans. I wasn’t too keen on how the fmc forgot her anger towards her dad when she found out another family member was missing. What she was running from to begin with. I dunno, the strength and determination she had to leave Hell and become someone on her own terms, killing ppl in the process just to stay away. I figured in the nature of how natural her own characters emotions played out, I think it would have felt more natural if she pushed back a little more. She accepted the role of Hell to easily, with little discussion on how long the position was to be held, etc. Otherwise, I was hooked. The sexy scenes were spicy, and the perfect length. I enjoyed the fact this book is longer than most. I was constantly wanting to read “one more page”… lol Have fun reading the multiple POV’s. Which is another thing I loved!
Let me start saying this. When I decided to read this book I was not expecting to instantly in love the MC. Lillian is one amazing character. But after meeting the others.. Not only her guys but the other characters. That was unexpected. I adore all characters in this book. Which is not a regular thing.
Discovering this book was a game changer. The depth of the world building. Characters. Dialogues. Banters. I love every second of it. Authors writing was perfect for me. Story was smoothly flow one scene to the next. There were some highlight sentences speak to my soul. Bravo!
One tiny bit of criticism is that I wished we could see more depth of the guys past. And maybe more alone time with D? I was really hyped their one on one dynamic. I mean she spent more time with others but I get it. It's standalone.
But.. It is still I one amazing book.
The golf thing. I'm still laughing. That was perfect!
If you want to read light hearted, hilarious and hellish book. I highly recommend you should read this. I mean the spicy scenes alone was heart attack worthy :)
"I’d learned the hard way a long time ago that nothing, and I mean nothing, was owed to you. You had choices in life and consequences. How you handled those choices and consequences, how you handled other people, was on you." - Lillian
She motioned to her father, who had his fingers in his ears as Michael’s arms were waving around, arguing with him about something. The Creator was on the other side, massaging His head and mumbling, “Make them in your image, they said. Worst. Advice. Ever.”
I skipped war's and famine's battel with Lillian and for the record I meant to do just a little spoilers but I got to death's part and just kept from there (by the time I thought to come back it was to late).
Characters 5 Writing 5 Plot 6 Entertainment 5 5.3★
The first half of the book was nothing but well written smut scenes. I devoured them! About half way through I got bored and I struggled to keep reading, honestly. I felt like the first half of the book was a completely different story than the last half. The last half of the book had much more intrigue and an actual plot. The author is great at writing some amazing 🌶️🌶️ scenes but the story itself felt choppy. The magic system was incredibly unique and I loved that a lot! The relationships between the characters was okay but I felt like I read over 500 pages to only really feel a real connection with them in the last 100 or so pages.

A humorous take on the four horsemen and good and evil. Really enjoyed this irreverent story of heaven and hell, our FMC Lillian is a fantastic girl who has made a successful life on earth after running away from hell after an argument with her father. It’s great to see her helping others as she pursues her career to create her own kingdom. The way she deals with each of the horsemen initially is so funny. This book is well written as are all of Kira’s books and thoroughly entertaining.
This was a pretty fun story to read. I think I would have preferred to see this in duet form than as a single novel though. There’s a definite break between Act I and Act II in the story that would have been a good spot to split it up. As it stands it’s a pretty long read. It’s a pretty well balanced story, with some good humor, a decent plot, and some good world building and characters. I thought this was a creative twist on a four horsemen romance even though some parts definitely reminded me of Four Psychos, there was enough here that made it stand out.
Ok this book was by far the best book I have read this month!! I loved everything about it! From the fierce FMC Lillian, to her sexy as sin mates & finishing it with an amazing story! I definitely loved Lucifer's humor and the crazy side he had but also loved how much he cared for his daughter even if he didn't know how to show it! It was a bad a$$ story with twist & turns & very different personalities which made it even better! Definitely a must read & I know it's a standalone buuuuuuut I'd love to know what they up to now!!
Really enjoyed this which was surprising as I usually don't do to well with fantasy etc .but I stumbled across this little gem by reading another book from this author that was revoked to me...
Anyway, Lillian loved her part demon part Angel who is trying to find her own way, away from Bell and her father
Lucifer pulls in a favour from four brothers to get his daughter back into bell and let's just say sparks fly!
Short and sweet. I liked war con and fame. Did not really enjoy D. Tho the FML sure did. It was kind of fast and glossed over stuff. The ending was unsatisfying ngl. But i still enjoyed this book. I wish levi was a 5th mate. The MLS made sure to be consensual which is harder to find in smutty books. One thing that made me drop stars was Fame calling the FML a good little girl while they were being sexual, which was disgusting and gave pedo vibes. I wish the plot was more intense and more intricate than the random ending
Kira Stanley is one of those authors that when nothing is hitting right reading wise, I can go to her books and know that they will satisfy my mood. Reluctant Queen is one of those books that are just purely an outstanding read. The characters are so well written, and you can't help but fall into the world. The only downside of this book is how badly I want to see more of the main five running Hell and maybe some family bonding outings with God, Lucifer, and his siblings! I will always, without hesitation, recommend Kira Stanley's work
This was sweet. And hot. Definitely very hot. I loved Lillian. She is definitely my favorite kind of heroine. She's strong not just physically, but emotionally. She handles these horsemen with style. The horsemen are all yummy, but I think Fame might be a slight favorite of mine. It was a great standalone. I read it through KU but I'm going to buy my own copy to keep.
3.5 (seriously, goodreads, give us half stars) I liked the premise of this so much, and I liked the FMC a lot. I enjoyed the MMCs' attempts to send her back to hell, but found them slightly formulaic. The pacing seemed to slow as they got to hell even though more things were going on, but it picked up again and the wrap up was satisfying (though a bit too quick for my taste). I think this book had a lot more potential than it delivered on, but it was a fun read regardless.
This book was different than I usually read, but I really liked some of the authors other books so I read this one and absolutely loved it! I not only loved the characters, but I really appreciated the story line and how they all interacted. It be nice to have a follow up book to see how they are doing. Maybe Cass falls for Lucifer? Just an idea and then we get more of Lil and the Horseman!
That was good. I always love the 4 horseman dynamic and to see where writers can take their story! Why choose is also a favorite of mine so the combination was explosive (literally). I appreciated the ending and the bringing together of all characters! I think the Princes will be getting a story and part of me is hoping Levi and Cass get together!
