Detective Jason Hudson has learned the hard way that forever and always don’t always work out. No longer able or willing to believe in Happily Ever After, he’s focused his life on two things: raising his son and doing his job. So when a woman from his past sets up shop in the small Southern Indiana town he calls home, his only interest in her is finding out just what scheme has brought her back to town. That and protecting his family from her wiles.

Additionally, a series of mysterious break-ins in the town’s industrial park have him perplexed, the lack of evidence pointing to a professional job that has his law-enforcement instincts on high alert and his frustration right alongside it. That he keeps running into Desi everywhere isn’t helping.

Forced to leave Indiana when she was just a teenager, Desiree “Desi” Price had no choice but to lock away her memories of the boy she loved and the life that was torn away by circumstances beyond her control. Well aware that going back is impossible but seeking closure, she returns to Leroy with the hopes that she can finally move forward and put her emotional ghosts to rest once and for all. She’s dismayed to discover that the sweet, charming young man she left all those years ago has become a disillusioned, emotionally unavailable skeptic with major trust issues.

As the story of the past unfolds, Jason is forced to deal with years-old heartache as he discovers the truth about several long-held beliefs involving Desi, his family, and his life in general. Just as he’s starting to figure things out, a dangerous arrest threatens to put a permanent stop to his very existence, and the resolution and forgiveness he needs might be forever out of his reach.

“Redemption in the Shadows” is the eighth book in the Shadows Collection, Women’s Fiction Romantic Suspense set in a fictional small town on the Ohio River in Southern Indiana. Other titles include “Secrets in the Shadows,” “Under the Moon’s Shadow,” “Shadows from the Grave,” “Hidden in the Shadows,” “In the Heart’s Shadow,” “Deception in the Shadows,” and “Seduction in the Shadows.”

T.L. Haddix is the author of the Firefly Hollow Series, women's fiction romances set in Eastern Kentucky, as well as numerous other projects under various pen names. She's a self-described eccentric, a somewhat reclusive stick in the mud who lives in Eastern Kentucky with her husband and their cat-children. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading, genealogy, casual bird-and-critter watching, and being short.

She writes books about characters who are flawed but who somehow still manage to overcome the challenges thrown in their paths and reach for happiness with their soul mates. And while she can't tell a joke in the real world to save her life, she tries to inject her characters' lives with quirky, unintentional humor that surprises readers at just the right moment.

I know my normal romance story usually falls into a different category. More along the lines of this:

This book has hot cop Jason who's ex-wife from hell put him through the wringer. So he is off women. I mean this guy does not have feelings. They were taken from his body and threw in the toilet. Then flushed four times.
Then Desi comes back to town. She left town when they were teenagers and broke Jason's heart before. She has remained friends with his grandfather so she knows some of what Jason has been through.

I have to mention the authors ability to write families. See my family is more of the type that Jerry Springer has a warrant out on because he needs them on his show so badly.

This is the second series of books I've read of hers that I want to be a part of these families. They aren't all fakey-fakey and they do argue but they will tear off someone's arm if you mess with one of them. I love them. I keep trying to squeeze my ass into my kindle to join them but I think I need to lose some weight.

I also get the hope for the romance genre when reading one of her books.

She doesn't go for the mushy-kissy part and her characters usually would cuss you out before you fall in love with them.

I'm reading this book completely out of order. I haven't read any of the other Shadows books because I'm a clutz rebel. The story is still fine though and I didn't feel lost. It did make me want to go back and grab up the other books though. I'm giving this couple stars because I want their happily ever after.

Do not let this sweetness in this review throw you. I still like when they stab each other also.

PS...this review is me being stupid. This book is actually very sweet and wonderful.

I think that reading the previous books in the series may help.

This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! It is a great conclusion to the series. I was curious how Jason's story would turn out, and I was not disappointed! I would say this is one of my favorites in the series (along with Beth's and Joely's stories).

Jason has had a difficult few years when someone from his past comes to Leroy. He is angry and frustrated with her but it soon comes to light that there is more to her abrupt departure than he realized. I love the interaction between Jason and Desi and how she brings out true emotion in Jason for the first time in a very long time.

I cannot recommend this book/series enough. Each book in this series is a stand alone novel, but once you read one - you are hooked! The characters from Leroy are very likable and easy to relate with. Great read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it! The author has hit another home run with this book (the last in the series.) On our final visit, Ms. Haddix has once again given us the perfect mix of romance, intrigue, and mystery that keeps you on the edge and unable to put the book down once you start reading. You have your main storyline (Jason and Desi re-kindling their teenage romance and dealing with lots of issues along the way), add in the mystery (the break-ins and how it all plays out), and then throw in some good ole Hudson family drama (because frankly, you cannot have a Shadows/Leroy book without it), and you get yet another very entertaining book. I will say that The whole "Aiden" character threw me for a loop. As soon as I thought I had him figured out, the truth came out and I was like "huh? Totally didn't see that coming." A little bit of extra mystery saved for the last book. ;-)
I am very sad for the series to be ending, as I will very much miss my occasional trips to Leroy, but I look forward to seeing what Ms. Haddix has in store next.

Great series.

I love this author and this series, but I could have done with a little more danger/action in this story. It was still a great story, but definitely more about the family relationships than the suspense. If you have been reading this series, I definitely wouldn't skip it since a lot of changes happen for the main family and you would be lost starting the next book.

Love the story

I have loved reading the shadow collection a lot. Your writing makes the characters seem so real to us. I like all the characters you created and the amount of love that shows through. Please don't let Jason story be the last.

Loved this series

I really loved the Hudson's and Leroy. Read where there will be no more books in this series and it really saddens me. Will make this series a yearly read and hopefully TL Haddix will change her mind about adding to the Shadow collection.

This book was the icing on the cake! I really had a tough time putting it down with the suspense and relationships . Although this is the end of the collection, I really want more!

How can one family have so many secrets? Desi hopes that she will be welcomed back home., she has gone so long but it was time to return. The people aren't all that happy to see her, they just don't know the whole story of why she left and she knows that she only wants one man to understand. Jason was her first love and she left him behind when she left, he wanted to be a cop and she knows that if he knew the whole story, he would have done something stupid. Jason isn't happy to see her at all, she just left him and he is angry & hurt by what has happened the last couple of years and he takes it out on her. Jason knows that it is time to let his late wife go but she hurt him so badly and try to keep his son away. She hurt his family and lied to them all. Can he ever move on and will he ever give Desi another chance? She just wanted to be accepted back but that isn't going to happen but she isn't going to leave again. Can Jason make amends and let her back in or will his fears never let that happen? The family has so many secrets and more are about to come out. They will learn about long last family and how family members kept them apart all this time. Can this family ever find peace, they have all been through so much? Can Jason & Desi move forward or has their time past? Can they get their HEA like the rest of the bunch? What an interesting read so much drama but it is all surrounded by deep love for their families. We have new beginnings, drama, some danger and forgiveness what more can you want. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for an honest review.

I somehow missed that there were a bunch of books before this one when I began reading it but thankfully Haddix writes so well I don’t feel like it affected my ability to enjoy the story. Of course if you had then you’ll get a fuller story so it’s up to you especially since this is a long running series that wraps up into a fitting conclusion with this book.

Haddix wrote a great book that combines romance, drama, and mystery with a page turning story line you won’t want to put down. Her focus on family and relationships is well done with realistic portrayals.

Considering how great this book was I’m definitely going to go back and start at the beginning of this series. Haddix writes books that make you want to channel that Netflix binging talent into reading her series.
