I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.
My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.
Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!
The first box set of this fantastic series, full of the supernatural, the spooky and the scary.
This is the first box set for the Midlife Spirits series and contains books 1-3: Afraid of the Dark, A Ghost of a Chance, and Mischief Brewing. The books are set in modern day New Orleans.
The books are written in HP Mallory’s usual easy to read and fluent style. The stories are well paced and make the reader feel like they are being taken on a journey. The character development and world building are very good; all the characters are interesting, relatable and have depth. You want to get to know them and their journeys.
I love this series. It follows the life of Peyton Clark, a 40-something recently divorced woman who inherits an old Antebellum house in the Garden District of New Orleans. For Peyton, this is a sign that she can start afresh, 2000 miles away from her abusive ex. Her new life introduces her to Ryan, her neighbour who is a potential new love interest, as well as Drake, the ghost of a former police officer who haunts her house and her dreams.
The stories are full of the supernatural; ghosts, malevolent entities, witches, warlocks and voodoo priestesses. The books have wonderfully descriptive scenes of frustrated passions, hauntings, possession and a glimpse into the ritual practices of voodoo witchcraft. The story arc which crosses the first three books ends on a dramatic note and leaves the reader itching to dive into book four, which fortunately is published.
I should be able to give half stars, because I really liked it, 4.5 would be more accurate. Why then not give 5 stars now? Well, I had a little bit of trouble getting into it. After that slightly difficult start (which honestly could have been me because I am not in a great place right now, but I have to judge by what I experienced reading this book) I was glad I persevered because it got good, really good. It’s very promising for the rest of the series! Because there’s more coming! And I can’t wait. Well, I won’t have to wait, because the next one is out already!
2 More, more, I need more! 5 stars
Some others are commenting on how the story is the same as book 1, but that was a mistake that has been corrected, at least, it must have been, because I had the right file.
I can always appreciate the use of humor, in life and in books. And that was well done. It’s well written and now I need more! Which I can, because the next installment is already out!
3 Excellent book! 5 stars
The intensity gets turned up a notch in this book. Maybe just a tad darker than I normally like, but it also had fun elements; if you want to know what I mean just read for yourself.
This box set contains books 1-3 in the Midlife Spirits series. The entire series is fun, romantic, intense, and a bit scary. Set in NOLA, Peyton has inherited a home that comes inhabited with her very own ghost, who’s very handsy. Add in an attractive general contractor named Ryan, and an unknown entity, and Peyton has her hands full.
Peyton is a wonderful character. She's fun, interesting, and her chemistry with Ryan is off the charts. Her relationship with Drake is flirty, fun, and dreamy. I found the books in the box set completely engaging, fast paced, and I couldn't put it down.
This is series is a fun series to read. You have an interesting mix of characters with mysteries and magic interwoven through out each. You will enjoy reading reading these books. I recommend reading the entire series.
Loved the rich historical depiction of a fascinating city. Could really relate to the characters. Can't remember when I delayed sleep to complete reading. Can only ask" may I have more, please. "

Book 3: Excellent book!
