When Dell Met Angel

Rate this book
When Dell met Angel almost 10 years ago while selling out her products at a Wellness & Beauty Expo, it was all business.

When Angel left to venture out on her own and blaze her own path in the world, things got really personal.

When they crossed paths three years later at a business conference, tensions were high and things got hot.

It’s been three months since they kissed and worked out their differences between the sheets after their public fall out.

Angel is open and ready to take their relationship to the next level, but Dell has some reservations. After all, Angel did almost ruin everything she worked for. Not everyone thinks their reunion is a good idea and for Dell, loving Angel is a riskier bet than business.

What will it take to move past the hurt? A world of trust? A mountain of forgiveness? A thousand ass kisses?

Maybe love heals all wounds.

Maybe they're just fooling themselves into another world of hurt.

A creative soul, mother of three, wifey, and professional daydreamer, Deja was born and raised in a land of pristine beaches and palm trees called Miami. Her love for all things books started early. At eight, she wrote her first short story on a typewriter her mother gifted her so she’d stop writing on the walls.

Being able to share her stories has always been a dream and today, she writes steamy stories featuring queer and bi-curious women of color in various stages of love and relationships.

She writes strong characters who are unapologetically black, openly discusses trauma and HEAs are not guaranteed.

When she’s not dreaming up alternate universes, she’s hanging out with her little tribe, watching something where the world ends or restaurant hopping.

💛 Friends/boss to lovers
💛 Billionaire romance
💛 Emotional roller coaster
💛 Black sapphic romance

Dell and Angel meet during a beauty expo 10 years prior. Dell is selling her products and Angel is there with her boss when they meet. Angel decides to join dells company. Angel ends up venturing out on her own and releases a book based on her time with Dell and all of her success. A snippet of her book is posted online and taken out of context which angers Dell and starts a feud. The post went viral to make matters worse.

The banter between the two MCs was CRAZY petty and so entertaining. I wanted to make some popcorn and grub on it as I read.

Three years later they see each other again and this is where more of the drama comes in. This is book is a roller coaster ride filled with drama. So many ups and downs. They are two hot heads that won’t back down. Their relationship was toxic. At one point I felt like they were better off going their separate ways. As the book went on you start to see the growth of both Dell and Angel. They do love each other but both are petty. I enjoyed this book so much. I couldn’t stop reading and devoured it in two days!

The spicy parts were hot and intense🥵but there was one part that had me scrunching up my face in pain for Angel 😖 besides that, hot hot hot. Can’t wait to read more by Deja!

Don't normally rate or review but at the time of posting this review there are only 3 others so I figured I would add my 2 cents.

This book was interesting enough to get me to want to finish it and it's well written. I like the element of flashbacks and I liked that both their backgrounds were developed enough to rope the reader in and provide a clear picture as to who they are and why they made some of the decisions they made.

My issues with this book are; it is very long winded. I feel like for the most part it was all mostly necessary to develop the story properly but I'm not sure so many words needed to be used. I'm still not sure why it was so long (I definitely started skimming some pages and just read the dialogue).
Also, normally I'm not a huge fan when books heavily advocate for therapy (get it if you want or don't, but don't shove it down my throat either way). However I've never encountered 2 characters who could have used a little or a lot of individual therapy more than these 2. They both recognize their toxicity but neither made any moves to correct it.

All in all a good read if you find it interesting from the synopsis, however be prepared for the long haul.

"Growth Starts Where Insecurity Ends"

This is my fourth book by Deja Elise this month, and I shouldn’t be surprised that I loved it! From the very first page, I was drawn in and captivated by the plot. The characters felt relatable and real, and what stood out the most was the authentic growth they experienced. Often, authors tell us that characters grow, but do they really show it? Do they make us feel it? Deja Elise does this wonderfully, making their growth tangible in a way that truly connects you to the characters.

While the romantic aspects were amazing, I found myself especially wrapped up in the 360 Beauty drama. Weaving business into a romance story can be tricky, but the author strikes the perfect balance, making the storyline both dynamic and engaging.

Another 5-star read. I found myself getting so invested that I was still yelling at the end of the book because I am still on the fence about what I felt about the characters’ relationship! But that just shows how well the story was written. I may not agree, but I cannot deny her penmanship.

The drama was entertaining, the characters were fully fleshed out and quite interesting, the love scenes were hot but half way through i got sick and tired of going around in a loop. It really hurts for me to say that i didn't enjoy this as much as i was hoping to. The relationship was toxic from my point of view, and at some point i felt like these people were not a good match and needed to go their seperate ways. I know relationships can get complicated and people mess up sometimes but the way it was presented in this book was not for me. Someone else might enjoy this. Don't get me wrong, their dynamic was hot at times, but i draw the line there. I was getting annoyed by everything else. I'll defintely check out other books by this author, this one was just not agreeing with me.

must read

Why?
I’ve read a good amount of WLW books and this is how I like it. It’s a realistic portrayal of a relationship.

It’s not exploitative bc the two main characters are women but an actual love story worth reading.

SPOILER ALERT

Honestly I was hoping for a cliffhanger on their relationship so there could’ve been a part 2 but ya know. Lol! The words, grammar, punctuation were top notch.

The full view of the complexities of human beings and child hood trauma that could affect adult decisions was real. I am Dell lol!

10/10!

This was such an amazing book. Dell and Angel’s story is so beautifully written. I like that we get to see equal parts of both characters and their personal back stories outside of their romantic relationship. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster but it’s worth the ride for sure . This definitely is one of my top reads for 2025!

It’s not a quick read, it’s an excellent well detailed, it’s a well developed tale of characters that are a roller coaster of emotions star crossed lovers in business. It’s relatable and sweet, well done to author.

I really wanted to love this and I did love some parts, but it’s just too heavy on work and careers and I’m not an office romance girly. I’m definitely interested in exploring other books by Deja Elise!!!
