Old Pine Cove #2

Love to Prove You Wrong

Rate this book
Hating the guy who ruined her confidence would be a lot easier if he wasn’t so freaking sexy.

For Addy, small-town life is just perfect. She’s about to expand her inn with ten new rooms and a petting zoo, and she’s helping the mayor’s son organize his wedding. If only her pet duck would stop escaping all the time, her days would be an absolute breeze.

But then Justin Miller shows up at Addy’s check-in desk. The guy went from small-town stud to lead actor in a popular series, and he’s behaving exactly like the celebrity he is. Smug grins, dimples to die for, and hordes of women chasing him all over town.

Addy has no intention of letting him in her life again—not after what happened in high school. So what if he keeps trying to prove he’s changed? No amount of helicopter rides and intimate outings will change the truth:

Justin Miller is nothing but trouble.

Love to Prove You Wrong is a sweet romantic comedy and the second book in the Old Pine Cove series. All books share the same setting, but each story features a different couple.

Love to Prove You Wrong was lovely and cozy romcom, a dazzling love story of Addy. It was hate to love and character falling in love with celebrity arc. It was about second chance, denial of love and misjudgment.

Writing was addictive, entertaining and fast paced. I couldn’t stop reading until I finished the book. Setting was the same as first book and like first book, it was charming. Loved Old Pine Cove in spring and town activities in this season. The more I’m reading about this town and community the more I want to pack my things and move to this beautiful place. You can read this book as standalone but I would say read the first book. I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Book started with Addy stressed under the upcoming wedding of Diane’s grandson at her inn and its organization. Diane’s famous tantrums and demands, escaping duck didn’t help with the stress and to make things worse Justin Miller returns the town and staying as a guest at her inn. The same Justin who made her high school life difficult and now he is famous Hollywood star. Addy knew he is trouble and exactly how he was in high school, a jerk. But when they had to work together for spring event, her feelings thawed eventually. But could she trust Justin and her rapidly changing feelings? Can she put her heart in line for a person who lowered her self-esteem and self-confidence in high school? Can a relationship is possible between a small town simple living girl and famous life of Hollywood star?

In last book I said I wish I could know Addy more and it came true here. Addy was sweetheart, professional and realistic. I could relate with her when it came to holding judgement because of bad experience. But unlike me she got a chance to change that judgement and I’m glad it proved wrong here.

Justin was amazing. At first I thought he was obnoxious rich and super famous Hollywood star. But I thawed pretty quickly than Addy. He was definitely irresistible. But I couldn’t figure out his actions in high school in half of the book and to be honest the reason was pretty lame. Who acts like that! But his confession was heartwarming and when she said why he came back and expressed his feelings, I was ready to swap places with Addy.

I enjoyed reading all characters and I was glad to meet old ones too.It was great to see both Justin and Addy’s feelings develop. They were perfect with each other. Their dates were awesome. Paparazzi, drama, and jealousy added spice in the story. Conversation and dialogues were great.

I could figure out the end pretty early but not that climax. I loved how thing took turn at climax and the way they found solution to their problem. I loved the end, epilogue and everything in this book.

Overall, it was light, sweet and fun read with lovely characters and town. I highly recommend this book.

This book is the first book that I have read from this author, and I must say that it definitely will not be my last. I really enjoyed the story and love and hate relationship between main characters Addy and Justin. I love how their interacted and there were many situations where I found myself laughing out loud. This small town romance is excellent choice if you want to read something light and lovely and funny. I really enjoyed reading it and now I have to read the first book in the series, before the third comes out 😊😊

Back in high school, Justin Miller constantly teased Addison “Addy” Grant which caused her to have very low self esteem. As an adult, she’s doing very well and even has her own inn. When Justin Miller checks into her inn, she’s not pleased to say the least. The last thing she wants is a reminder of her high school days.

Justin Miller has aged well. He’s handsome and is a very popular celebrity. All the women are chasing him, but he can’t stop thinking of the girl he used to know in high school, Addy.

Addy is quite busy these days. Her inn is hosting a wedding and she’s the wedding planner. It’s not bad enough her duck keeps escaping, but her old nemesis Justin Miller is the best man. To make matters worse, Justin wants to prove he’s no longer the immature kid from high school. Addy wants no part of him, but these two can’t seem to stay apart. The sparks fly whenever they are together.

This is the second book in the Old Pine Cove series, but it absolutely can stand on its own. It has nothing to do with the storyline from the first book except it’s set in the same town and a character or two makes an appearance.

It’s a fun way to spend a weekend. I’m calling this book a great stress-reliever at a time when many of us can use one. The characters are lively, well developed and just so darn cute. This is the perfect escape - the author totally transported me into her world. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Pine Cove.

Very cute

Old enemies make the best lovers. This is a sweet romance so if you want racy sex scenes, you won’t find them in this book. Justin has always secretly liked Addy but to get her attention, he made high school miserable for her. Now, a popular actor, he’s back for his best friend’s wedding, and ready to win Addy, once and for all. If he can convince her to stop hating his guts.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone.

I really don't like to write negative reviews. If a book is not for me, I know someone else will absolutely love it. Just as I love books that weren't someone's cup of tea. That is perfectly normal! :) But I set a goal for myself to write more reviews here on Goodreads and to snap a picture in time of my feeling toward a book, as I tend to forget some of them.

I really started to hate Justin Miller at some point. He was a bully, I don't care that he did what he did and said what he said in high school only because he actually liked Addy. From what we get from time to time from Addy's perspective about the situation, it seems that the bullying was actually pretty bad and it really affected her.

I didn't like Addy too much either. I don't trust their love and their feelings. It seemed to me that she was so eager to get his approval that made me really mad with her as well. It seemed like she was still in high school, trying to stop the bullying by kissing a**. She fell way too easy in love with him.

The scene where she falls asleep on his bed? That seemed too much for me. I could have done without it. And all the talk about nuts?! Not funny for me!

I made some notes throughout the book that I really want to leave her:

- “We’re not in high school anymore, Addy. When are you going to let it go? It’s in the past.” -> this was the first time that I kind of started hating Justin. I mean, he was bad to her and made her high school years so difficult (he called her Fat Addy, a name that stuck with her. Also, when they first see each other he actually slips out and says "-Fat.." and then stops). He now casually comes back in town and expects her to forget everything because it was a long time ago. I mean, an apology would be nice...

- “You’re right, I shouldn’t have called you that. But in my defense, I was a clueless sixteen-year-old boy. I mean, being immature and inconsiderate is kind of normal at that age.” -> seems like some sort of an apology, but he still looks for excuses for himself.

- "It had taken me years to come to terms with how I looked. I had lost a lot of weight two years ago and had learned to love myself, chubby hips and everything. But the memory of that nickname still lingered in the back of my head whenever I ate an entire box of cookies or gorged down a hamburger meal, something I should be able to do without feeling guilty. It was my body and my life, and I was the only person who had a say in either." -> how could I like Justin when I read this? How could I like Addy anymore when she still falls in love with him without him properly apologizing to her first? Justin really treats this with such indifference that I can't get over it.

- "Whenever you’re around me, you seem to turn into a little devil. All you have to offer me are snarky remarks. How much longer are you going to resent me for my past mistakes?” -> Infuriating. Also, at some point he just ignores her because "he doesn't want to play anymore". He expects her to just forgive and forget what happened just because he showed up and tried to make her feel guilty that she was still affected by his bullying.

- "I knew it was ridiculous to keep thinking about that. It was a long time ago and I should leave it where it belonged: in the past." -> No, Addy, you shouldn't. You were bullied in a period of your life when you were vulnerable and when you wanted to make friends and be accepted by the people around you. But Justin, just because he was popular, made your life hard.

- "For years, I’d been afraid to talk to guys, all because I felt I would never live up to their expectations of what a woman should look like." -> this is what he made her feel like...

- "I was supposed to hate him for… for… for what exactly? Making fun of me all those years ago? Making me doubt myself? Ruining my science project? Or did I hate him because he was nothing like I remembered?" -> umm, he is kind of exactly like you remembered. You just choose to ignore it this time.

- "For years he had teased me, made my high school years a true struggle, and now he was all “oh, let’s go on a helicopter ride and attend Alicia Bright’s" -> it seemed to me like she was so impressed by what he could offer her. Their falling in love was so sudden and without a base for me. I didn't exactly see when they fell in love. They barely saw each other...

- "waiting for the other shoe to drop.” His brow furrowed. “What other shoe? There are no shoes and none of them are going to drop.” “How can I be sure?” I asked. He shook his head and balled his free hand into a fist. “I’ve had enough of playing games. When you’re ready, come and find me.” -> very mature, Justin:))) what can I say?

- "“Justin, I’m sorry. About before. I shouldn’t have run away. I panicked,” I said. He gave me a nod, then turned around. “Our ride is here,” Justin said. “Are you coming?" -> he acts like he is the hurt one in this:))) Ahhh, I wanted to scream at him...

- "You used to think I was a silly girl, remember? That’s why you made jokes at my expense, spread that stupid nickname around and ruined my science project. Why would you want me after all these years, huh? Why do you even care?” “Forget about that stupid science project already. Did it ever occur to you that I was a dick to you in high school because I had a crush on you and I didn’t know how to go about it? Besides, I never once called you a silly girl. That all happened in your imagination.” -> ahhh, I hate this. I hate how he finds excuses for him and I hate how he makes her feel so small, like her feeling didn't matter. He doesn't acknowledge her at all. Everything she felt must be forgotten because he was a highschooler.

- “It was, and I’m sorry. I admit there are better ways to get a girl’s attention. Believe me when I say that I was trying to get you to like me. Weird way of going about it, I know. I was a jerk and I truly feel sorry about all of it. I hope you can forgive me so that I can take you to the wedding.” -> Finally, an excuse. But it came a little too late for me, sorry. I wanted to feel like he really meant his apology, but it didn't feel that way.

- “Yes. I don’t want to lose you, Addy. But this is Crocodile Man.”; Again with the Crocodile Man. I got it. Crocodile Man was every boy’s dream, unlike me. I wasn’t anyone’s dream. Not anymore. “Look,” he continued. “I get that you don’t understand what this means, but I can’t say no to it.” -> he goes and does something that makes her feel bad again. He didn't discuss this with her, which made me feel like his feeling weren't really genuine.

- "The dance floor filled up with other couples, but I only had eyes for my man." -> Addy, I expected more of you.

Overall, I really didn't see where their feelings toward each other really come from. Justin sang a song for her and asked for forgiveness a couple of times, but those excuses really made me not trust him and his intentions. Addy hated him and the way he made her life a living hell in high school, making her doubt herself, but admitted to have fallen in love so easily and quick... Also, Justin liked her in high school, but a lot of time passed. He doesn't really know her now, but pretends he is fully in love with her.

And I have to repeat myself: He ignores her because their past makes her not trust him now and she doesn't react the way he wants her too. I wanted to see him feel really sorry for what he did, I wanted to see him make it up to her, I wanted to see him complimenting her more, I wanted to see more interaction between the two of them, more conversations, more tension... but I didn't get that at all.

I loved the storyline. The characters were cute. The plot progression was going well until it wasn't.

Once the fmc went snooping in the mmc room it just felt like the author was forcing the plot. She fell asleep on his bed! Super unprofessional as a business owner. It seemed out of character for fmc.

Then this hot Hollywood actor is dressing up in a full Kermit the frog suit at a wedding reception? I thought that would have been out of character for him.

The 🦙 was hilarious. The rest of the story was enjoyable.

So, I really can't say enough good things about this book! I have read all of this author's books, but they just keep getting better. I loved this book for so many reasons, and I literally read it in one sitting. The characters were so likable and believable, I felt as though I actually knew them.

Addy was such a wonderful character because she was a strong woman who didn't need anyone to "save" her, but at the same time, she was smart enough to know that letting someone in didn't mean you were weak and needed to be rescued. On top of that, she is absolutely hilarious. She had me laughing out loud on several occasions. Also, Justin's character was amazing as well because he showed so much growth and persistence, and he was funny as well. I think anyone who is looking for someone who will make a grand gesture to win them over would absolutely swoon over Justin. He was that perfect amount of cocky and sweet that has you wishing you could actually meet someone just like him.

Not only were the characters fantastic, but the storyline was so good as well. It was a little bit of a fairytale, but one that you believe could actually happen. I thought it was engaging and fun, and I think everyone could find something to enjoy in this book. I definitely recommend it.

WOW!! Another absolutely stunning and gorgeous read from the lovely Sophie. I couldn't put this one down and have finished it in just under two hours.
This book is fun, engaging and hilarious. I have absolutely loved this plot and I have to say I have a very big soft spot for Justin. I have read all of Sophie's books and I'm sure with every new release they become even more fabulous.
This is a book which has made me laugh, smile and cry all in one sitting. I absolutely love the developing love-hate relationship between Addy and Justin. Sophie has done a fab job at showing how you remember the little things that happen in high school. I was rooting for the pair from the beginning. However, Ashley has irritated me a little. She comes across as desperate and very fake.
This has been a perfect read, I absolutely love visiting Old Pine Cove and I cannot wait for the next instalment- hopefully won't be too long.
Every book of Sophie's has been given a five star rating by me. However, that truly does not show how much I adore this book. It is quite possibly my favourite yet (even though I love all of Sophie's books). I honestly wish that I could give this book hundreds of stars. It's a perfect read and escape. This should definitely be added to readers TBR lists.

There's something really cosy about small town romances, and well, I've forever been a cosy-book lover. 😁 Love to Prove You Wrong is the second book in the Old Pine Cove series, but it can be read as a standalone. The storyline caught my interest from the very beginning ~ and I have to thank the story location for that. The author described the setting of Old Pine Cove so perfectly, the book played out like a movie in front of my eyes. I wanted to visit the place so badly with the characters 😭 The inn in the book has a bookstore service too OMG.
Now, let's talk about the characters from the book. I really liked Addy, our protagonist. She's really independent, and I loved how she never let go of her dreams for the inn and stayed strong, while making sure others were happy too. Justin, the male lead, on the other hand though, made me really annoyed at times. I wish we got to see the story from Justin's POV as well. His actions and motives would have been more clear then. The side characters, specially Carter and Suzie, added their own charms to the book.
Overall, Love To Prove You Wrong wrong was a really sweet and comfy read! 😄

Love to prove you wrong is the second book in the Old Pine Cove series and can be read as a standalone.
In this book you get to meet Addy, the owner of the local inn. She has her hands full with an upcoming wedding (and the hilarious Diane, I love her character so much) when old nemesis Justin books himself into her inn and into her life...

This story is fun and engaging. The characters are well written and you find yourself relating to them easily.
I loved that some of the people from the first book made an appearance, but if you haven't read book 1, you can still connect all the dots and understand everything.

I'm a big fan of Sophie's writing. Her books keep getting better and I'm already looking forward to book 3 in this great serie...

This one is a cute, quick, and clean rom-com. Hollywood heartthrob and former high school bully (at least for Addy), Justin Miller, is back in Old Pine Cove and he’s staying at Addy’s inn. Addy is determined to continue her intense dislike of Justin. Justin is determined to make Addy admit that she really doesn’t hate him. The story is entertaining, but it really doesn’t move all that much until the last chapter. About 75% of the way through I was starting to get annoyed with the lack of change but at that point decided it was too late to quit. In many respects, Addy and Justin seemed like they were in their teens instead of in their mid-twenties. There were many things to like in this book, there were also plenty of things that were annoying.

Love to Prove You Wrong is a wonderful book! The book is engaging, fun, romantic and hilarious. I love the characters! They are wonderful. Addy and Justin are just perfect together. They are so relatable, interesting, smart and fun. Their witty banter had me laughing. This is such a cute, sweet romance. The plot is engaging. The setting of the inn is interesting and fun. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

It was cute, but I never really bought into this relationship. He was still using immature tricks to win her over. And who shows up 4 weeks in advance of a wedding? The (grand?)mother could have done not long distance. And Justin never explained why he was there that early, even a partial truth. I do like the name Duckota, though.

Such a cute, fun, sweet story. I wanted to hate her but I couldn't because the characters were so well written. I love how he loved her and didn't let anything get in the way of it. It was swoon-worthy and a sweet Christmas time story.

This was my first time reading this author’s work. I was absorbed by the book from the first page and couldn’t put it down. Steamy (somewhat) clean romance, fun characters, and a great plot. I will absolutely be looking for more by the author and will definitely be reading this one again!

Justin was book boyfriend material, but I hate when authors write the trope "I bullied you because I liked you" and the FMC hates the guy and keeps mentioning that reason.
It perpetuates the concept that hurting women is ok for both boys and girls at a young age.
I was bullied and don't want to see that guy around me - so I'm on Abby side.

If I forget that trope, this book was an enjoyable light-hearted,flirty, romance between the famous movie star and the small town girl.
The ending and epilogue were a bit rushed, but I've read worse ones.

Content: Language, Innuendo

It got increasingly ridiculous in like childish relationship way. And had increasing number of sexual references.

Being a germ-a-phob isn't being a "party pooper." It's a disorder.

I enjoyed the first of the series well enough, but after doing this one, I don't want to continue.

Loved the back and forth with Justin and Addy. How typical of a guy to try to get a girl’s attention by picking on her. But, he truly made up for it as an adult.
