Bloody Royals #0.5

No Such Fling

Rate this book
I've been in love with Prince Augustus for as long as I can remember, but he keeps pushing me away, into the arms of another...

Atticus is a dangerous flirt; he could steal my heart if I'd let him.

Leo, my fierce protector, speaks to me on a soul-deep level, unlike any I've ever known.

All three of them hint at something more, but they aren't the only ones staking a claim on my body. There's evil stalking in the shadows of the castle, and he wants me, too.

I'll fight for my freedom and flee if I have to, but it'll require leaving parts of my heart behind. I just have to hope that if it comes to that, one day, fate will bring us back together.

**Warning this book contains scenes and references of abuse/assault that some readers may find triggering. Along with graphic violence.

He was my best friend.
My future king.

A seemingly innocent beginning to a story of four young adults.

After reading quite a few series with college aged characters, I wasn’t in any particular rush to pick this book up. But at only 41 pages I was willing to give this one a try. So happy I did!

Modern monarchy
Reverse harem (in next book)
Childhood bff/first kisses
Political maneuvering
TW: On-page rape

Augustus, the crown prince of Aldrich (22), spoiled manwhore who runs from his responsibilities. Yet there is an underlying kindness to him.

Atticus DuPont (22), son of a notorious crime Lord and bff to Augustus. They act like a bitter rivals, consumed with jealousy over the attention of childhood bff, Christine.

Leo (23), August’s personal guard. Fierce protector yet quiet and watching everyone. Always sneaking Christine her favorite chocolates when he can.

Christine Abernathy (18), her mother and the queen were best friends. When Christine’s mother died, the queen promised to take care of her, and moved her into the castle, raising her with her young son.

Ends with a brutal cliffhanger, but the next three books in the series are already out and on KU.

Wow, Coralee!! You sure know how to get the reader's blood pumping and amped. No Such Fling is a VERY short prequel to the upcoming Bloody Royals trilogy that will be coming early next year!

We get a small taste of Christine, Prince Augustus, Atticus the Prince's best friend and Leo the trusted bodyguard.

She has loved Augustus for as long as time, but their lives are just too different. He is destined for the throne, and she is destined to lose half her heart. After her parents' passing, she is taken in by the King and Queen. She sees the Prince day in and day out. Bound to grow close and have an almost unbreakable bond. Atticus is a dangerous flirt and knows just what to say to stir up tension and feelings she is so confused about. Tests waters that makes his bestie all growly. Then throw in the quiet man, hunkering down in the shadows aka the bodyguard. He always has his eyes focused on the Prince as his duty entails, but they sway to make sure she's comfortable as well. Always a kind word or moment after she has her heart and emotions whiplashed by the other two!

Ohhhh mannnn!! That cliffhanger was a gnarly one. It was massive so be forewarned. There is also MANY triggers so be aware before you dive in.

Is it January already???

Omg, how is the writing so bad? I don’t even have the words to describe what this was. This was only the 40p prequel, but no. Sorry.

Original review

No Such Fling is a short story prequel set in the Bloody Royals series and tells the story of Christine.

When Coralee June announced that she was writing the Bloody Royals series, I got so excited. I’m a big fan of Coralee June’s writing and I love her reverse harem books. Coralee June did such a good job with this short story prequel. It left me wanting more, I want to get the know the characters better and I want to know what’s going to happen next to the characters.

No Such Fling is about Christine and Prince Augustus, Atticus the Prince’s friend and Leo the Prince’s bodyguard. I immediately got the vibes that all three men want Christine but that she doesn’t realise it (yet). I really liked getting to know the characters and I’m looking forward to getting to know them even better in the other books in the Bloody Royals series.

No Such Fling was an amazing short story and the perfect introduction for the Bloody Royals series. Please note the trigger warning in the synopsis, this book has some difficult scenes in it. I’m really excited for the first book in the series, No Such King, and I cannot wait for it to be January!

In this short story we meet the Kingdom of Aldrich’s royalty: King Frederick, Queen Isabelle, Prince Augustus, and Lady Christine. We’re also introduced to our other main players: Atticus and Leo.

Do not let the short page count fool you. CoraLee has jam-packed this teaser with loads of action and sexuaI tension. We are also privy to important insight into the dynamics between Christine and her love interests. I just know this series is going to be epic!

Oh my god Coralee June..what did you do to me? This prequel left me in a mess..banging my head, clutching my chest and wiping away tears. No Such Fling is just the glimpse of the epicness the author has planned for us in her upcoming Royal Bastards series! This adrenaline filled, heartbreaking and mind blowing tease from Coralee June has made me an instant addict.

Christine has been adopted by the queen if Aldrich after she lost her parents. She had a crush on Prince August and she is his close friend but his best friend Atticus Dupont give her butterflies too. August's guard Leo always keeps watch on her. But it's a Royal romance and the lies, deceits and conspiracies are just starting...and we have to wait to see where this journey goes!

I'm so glad I had an advanced copy of the next book waiting on my Kindle or I was about to do some shady shiz to get my hands on it. LOL

Seriously though, what a BRILLIANT introduction to a new series. Bravo!

Found this series in a bookstore and found it to be so absurd I had to read it.
I am reading this as a buddy read with a friend of mine who isn't on Goodreads.

This book is deliciously bad, and that's why it gets a 2 star rating instead of 1. The characters are laughably bad, the plot was dry as sand, and the romance is actually absurd. But it was so fun to read despite it all. I am so excited to read the rest of the series and see how bad it gets.

4 strong stars, cliffy and triggers ahead.

Well that escalated quickly! We have young love & friendship between Christine (Phantom vibes) and August, Atticus and Leo.

Christine knows she has no chance with August (and to be honest I hate that he's a man whore already):
"Love was a fickle thing, and August only liked receiving it. I supposed it was safer that way. He was too scared to let his heart loose. Was probably worried it would run off and leave him behind if given half the chance."

She knows it but can't stop her reaction to him. And then she gets traded to an older man for favors to the King and bad things happen. She survives but must leave for her own safety.

Not sure about the "Fling" part though? Maybe just rhymed :)

What have I just read?

I didn’t expect this end😱 If Cora was able to surprise me so much in 60 pages I don’t to imagine in an entire trilogy!
Please go blind to read this novella and don’t read the plot of the first book that will out tomorrow.
Reading the plot of “ No such King” surprise me even more, how the things have changed…

Ohhhh this is the prequel for the Bloody Royal series and MAN O MAN do I want more!!!

"Nostalgic for love that was doomed.

Christine Abernathy, friend of Royal Family. They took her in when her parents died and raised her alongside Prince Agustus. While it's no secret the deep soul feelings she has for Agustus, he knows their ending can't be what she wants so he pulls away whenever things get too close. Best friend Atticus is always there to pick up her bleeding heart and wants so much more that he's willing to wait and be patient until Christine realizes it too.

Then theirs Leo, the royal guard. He sees what not many else do and I am unsure if he will be a friend of something else in the series to follow.

When Christine is forced to be "tested out" to a Lord by way of the King, all hell breaks loose. She fights for herself and what she wants, even if it may be too late for other things... She doesn't realize her actions as its happening and soon, her entire life is changed in just one moment.

The ending comes up way too fast and I cannot wait to see how this will all go!!!

*Overall 5/5
*Prologue only
*First person POV
*Triggers - Rape
*Ends on cliffhanger

Wow! For such a short prequel to a series, this little story packed a big punch.

We meet the key players, Christine, an orphan who was taken in by the king and queen. Augustus, the prince, his guard Leo and his best friend Atticus. Christine and August have been best friends since childhood and now Christine is 18 and attending university. She's been in love with August for years. So when she is summoned by the king and told she is being married off, she is blindsided. She takes matters in her own hands to avoid that outcome, and because of this, she will be sent away, her future unknown.

Doesn't sound like much because I don't want to spoil the story, but I will say it grabbed my attention, my interest is piqued and I can't wait to find out what happens in the first book.

No Such Fling by Coralee June is a short prequel to The Bloody Royals Trilogy. This was my first book review for this author and I absolutely loved it.

This story is about a young woman named Christine Abernathy who is a ward of the Royal Court. She is in love with Prince August but is drawn to his best friend Atticus and Augusts personal guard, Leo, as well.

All three men appear to be drawn to Christine, but they all have secrets and Christine has no idea what to do about it. Then a Rajiv event happens which changes everything for Christine.

This story is very intriguing and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. This book ends on a big cliffhanger.

What a riveting start to a series. Pulled me in from the start and held me to the last word. Christine has already had so much happen in her 18 years and with this little glimpse we get into her future she will have a lot more to fight through. I can't wait for The Bloody Royals Trilogy to start!

A great intro into this upcoming series!

No Such Fling is a great introduction into the this series. I was sucked in from the very start and was left needing more.

Be warned it can get a bit rough so if you have any triggers be warned.

The basis of the story is that Christine’s parents died and the Queen took her in to be raised along with her son. She grows close with the Prince and his friends. But will anything be able to come if this budding love?

Definitely read and find out!!

I’m going to be honest, I’d read the prequel, loved it, intended to read the trilogy when it came out…. And promptly forgot!! 🫣 I found this review hiding in my drafts on my blog! (I was having a tidy up)
So…. I’m going to post this, (and made a note to read the trilogy asap) 😜

No Such Fling is a short prequel to the author’s trilogy. (Bloody Royals)
It is a dark and very twisted tale story, dealing with many triggers (please read before deciding on wether to read or not)
Be warned it will end in a HUGE cliffhanger….

The story revolves around Christine and the three men in her life. (Yes it is a why chose read) 😉
Augustus, is the Crown Prince of Aldrich. Then we have Atticus DuPont, (Augustus’ best friend) and Leo (the bodyguard)
Although Christine and Augustus grew up together they aren’t blood (she’s the adopted daughter of the queen)
Growing up they were inseparable, and everyone was aware of Christine’s love for her friend.

Augustus is well aware of his friends feelings for him (and will play with her emotions to rile her up) but something has changed, no longer does he okay with her feelings, in fact he’s being really cruel and pushing her out of his life! Why?

Atticus is a huge flirt (and my second favourite character) he loves to tease his friend by flirting with Christine. A pretty easy going guy. So why does it feel like he’s changing? And he’s really nice a nice guy to be around at the moment!
Leo is the quiet one, (and my favourite) he keeps to the shadows, doing his job of looking after the prince and Christine.

Her poor heart is under attack by all three and she is confused over her feelings for each of them. She is good friends with them all but feels like a toy they are all playing over. Do all three really want her or is there an ulterior motive behind their kind words? What are their true intentions and what secrets are they all hiding?

There is evil, betrayal, manipulation, lies and deceit amongst the castle walls and one night, a series of events changes her life forever. I am fascinated to know what will happen next and what will be the consequences of the events at the end.
