These are fun, light stories. There is little character development within the story, and very little seems to change from story to story to develop the characters. They never seem to learn from or remember the dangerous experiences they had previously, making each book almost a stand-alone story. However, the mystery part of the books is well developed, even if the characters do stupid things to help them get clues and information to figure it out. The endings are usually more abrupt than I would like, with the stereotypical idea of having the character in danger get the criminal to explain how they did it to buy time until a rescuer comes to save them and arrest the criminal. But they are still fun and enjoyable to read, and there are great recipes. I'd love to work at Charlotte's Chocolate Heaven, or at least have it nearby to become a regular.
I guess i enjoyed reading these books since I continued and read all 10 (tho not all at once) but alSo I kind of don’t like some things about them. I find the constant emphasis on the relationship between the grandma and granddaughter too much. We get it already! And although they keep saying they believe in being careful, they continue to be careless around murderers. And charlotte is supposed to not want to ever close the shop during business hours and the proceeds to do so repeatedly. Not enough humor either except for the occasional pig incident. I am not an animal person but I do like Arnold and his helping solve things.
Ally and her grandmother own and operate a chocolate shop. Somehow, between giving away an inordinate amount of candy and solving murders, they manage to stay in business. Even in the world of fiction, Ally would be in jail for obstruction and withholding evidence. Of course, having a detective boyfriend makes all that ok. These books are easy to read. I do find the misuse and lack of use of commas to be annoying. Although I do not dislike the series, I won’t be buying more.
This was the 10 pack and at this point I have only gotten through books 1 & 2. The first story was more on the fun side and the second was a tad blah. Currently Reading book three and I've walked away from it to read other books. This set may take me awhile to finish as it seems that going from book two to three the content feels too repetitive, as such a gap between the books may be necessary. These stories may end up being my soft fluffy in between books that I need to reset to after the more challenging reads.
While the plots of each of these books are complex and I only was able to figure out the murderer in one of the ten, I was generally disappointed in the series as a whole. There are at least three and up to 6 suspects for the murder that occurs generally in the first chapter of each book. The characters make a good case for each suspect and then tear that down and go onto another suspect. What disappointed me was the author's writing, probably because I'm a retired English teacher. I felt her style was rather simplistic and she repeatedly used the same phrases; i.e. "She popped another chocolate into her mouth," or "she opened the door for her grandmother, the walked around the car to get in herself." I could almost feel myself getting out the red pencil and writing 'come up with a synonym for popped,' or 'If they are driving somewhere together, it is not necessary to describet them getting into the car.'
Great reads and good characters and of course chocolate. I loved the story between Ally and memaw and between Ally and Luke. They’ve all become like family and can always solve a crime before the police. Two of the cutest animals are also part of the family, Peaches and Arnold. I highly recommend reading the books for a fun filled adventure
Ally and her grandmother Charlotte are quite a team, they get into the middle of the situations and do all they can to solve it. The many characters are interesting, you feel like you’re there with everything. Definitely kept me interested and it’s very nice to get them in the boxed set. Very well edited books too!
A thoroughly good read. I had already read the first four books previously and couldn't wait to read the rest and I wasn't disappointed. I also loved the recipes and look forwarding trying some of them.
I enjoyed all the books , the love that Ally and grandma have for each other is so rare and touching that it makes you not want to put the books down until you find out who the killer s are.
Chocolate Centered Cozy Mysteries Box Set Books 1 - 10
I really love the animals and the town and the chocolates the only thing I wish is Ally and Charlotte weren't so pig headed but can't wait to read next set.
I read all these books and kept reading til I was finish. A good read and a very good mystery. And to top it off a cat and pig. The characters were very good too.
I really love getting to read 10 books in a row!! I hadn't read any of this series which made it even better! It was a lot of fun getting to known all of these new characters. And I definitely LOVE chocolate!! So it was a win win for me!! Thanx again Cindy!
Love the characters in these books. Planning to read the next 11 through 20 Allly and Charlotte are great chacters and I love their interaction. Being an octogenarian, I love the stories that include older characters. The plots are well written and leave you guessing until the end.
This was my first time reading Cindy Bell. I enjoyed the entertaining characters, the big of drama and suspense along with the clean romance. Give it a try!
What a delightful series. I’m ready for more! Do they get married (fingers crossed). Does the chief get over his pride? Does Ally form true friendships?
These stories were fun and enjoyable. The characters were relatable and interesting. This set of books was like a good box of candy, I couldn't stop at one.
