Detective Matthias Honeywell #1
MCU - Eerie City Police, Pennsylvania

A home invasion at a high price property backing onto Lake Eerie is the second in the area with the same MO. The family are tied up, the house robbed of expensive items but this time the husband gets free and gives chase to the perpetrators. Later his high price Audi is found abandoned and he’s missing. A few days later Emma Anderson, a photographer, is tasked with taking some photos on the lake front, she snaps some beach junk and finds contained within something she definitely doesn’t bargain for. The cases are investigated by Matthias and his partner Detective Cassie Malone.

This is such an enjoyable read in a great setting with mood enhancing descriptions that create a good atmosphere. It’s well written, I like the tone throughout which is sometimes uneasy, at others suspenseful with chills and some full throttle danger. There are several layers to the storytelling which keeps you intrigued and throughout you have the mystifying conundrum of the home invasions. It’s well paced, speeds up as appropriate and interspersed with good, authentic dialogue and sprinkled with some humour. What I really appreciate is the straightforward linear storyline with the author just getting in with the plot and thus you turning pages.

The characterisation is a very strong element. I find myself fascinated by Matthias who has the intense brooding presence of a character that might feature in a nineteenth century novel but very much a 21st century version! As the novel progresses you get to peak beneath the surface and this brings understanding of the demons being carried. He has that in common with Emma who has a great deal to contend with herself. She’s plucky, brave and honourable. I look forward to reading what happens in the next instalment which I eagerly anticipate!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HarperCollins:One More Chapter for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

A gang of home invaders are targeting families with expensive art on the walls, but during the last one a dad went in full hero mode and got killed. During this investigation, detectives Honeywell and Cassie Malone interview a potential witness, Emma Anderson, who is running away from her stalker while also searching for her missing sister in the lake Erie area. Both stories intertwine nicely and draw the reader into a fast paced police investigation.

The book is very well written in a fluid style and chapters of a perfect length and I was going to grant a full 4 stars, but alas the end let me down. I really didn't like the "I'm going to kill you, but before I do, I'll take a lot of time to explain how it all fits together while having the barrel of a gun against your temple"-trope, and that is what we get here. And there is also a budding romance between Emma and dect. Honeywell. I think a lot of readers will like this, but it is just not my thing either.

So all in all, a very agreeable read, but the end was a bit over the top for me.

Thank you to NetGalley, One More Chapter and the author for an advanced copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

This is a well written, fast paced and gripping read. The story is told from Emma and Detective Honeywell and his partner Cassise's perspectives. Emma has left an abusive relationship and is trying to start a new life. But she discovers a body while taking some pictures for a publication. There are lots of twists to keep you guessing. Detective Matthias Honeywell has personal issues. The characters are well developed and believable. This is a quick and easy book to read. I'm looking forward to the next addition to this series.

Erie City Police Detective Matthias Honeywell has been called to the site of a second home invasion robbery in a matter of days. The difference here is that the husband managed to escape and go after the thieves. Unfortunately, the next morning, photographer Emma Anderson finds the man’s body in some debris that washed on shore from Lake Erie. The more Honeywell investigates, the more he finds that revolves around Emma. Can he solve the case? Will she be the key to unraveling it?

This is a strong start to a new series. Both Honeywell and Emma come alive quickly for us, partially thanks to their backstories which are slowly given to us without over teasing. The rest of the cast is just as strong. We get the story from both Honeywell’s and Emma’s third person points of view in alternating chapters, so it is always easy to tell when we are switching. And the story is strong. I struggled when I had the put the book down, especially when I hit the page turning climax. (Stupid real life!) Since this is a police procedural, it is darker than the cozies I often read, so know that going in. Those already a fan of the author will be delighted with the new series. If you haven’t started reading her books yet, this is a great place to jump in.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

I'm thrilled to bring this new series to my readers. I've been "researching" the Erie PA area for years and have long felt it was a great setting for a murder mystery. Detective Matthias Honeywell and freelance photographer Emma Anderson have some deep-seated personal traumas. But if they're going to solve a series of home invasions and homicides, they need to learn to trust each other.

This was a great thrill ride! Photographer Emma is in the middle of an investigation when she accidentally captures a dead body in the middle of one of her innocuous pictures. The investigative team of Mathias and Cassie are sure she is involved somehow until they begin interviews and realize she may have been inadvertently taking a photo of something else, even as they begin to look into a string of home invasions along with a murder. Lots of suspects, many red herrings, and action that leads them in so many directions! I love that this will be part of a series as I'm already invested in these characters and can't wait to see where they are headed next!

A great mystery - one that will draw you in quickly!

Emma Anderson is trying to keep a low profile when she mistakenly includes a dead body in her most recent photograph. Before long she is pulled into a murder investigation lead by Matthias Honeywell.

This mystery has all of the qualities I love - interesting characters and imperfect detectives with relationships outside of their jobs. Great backstory for the protagonist too! If you like a police procedural, want a new murder mystery to solve, or just want to visit the beautiful area of Erie, Where The Guilty Hide is for you! #AnnetteDashofy #HarperCollins

Where the Guilty Hide’ by Annette Dashofy is a good mystery, with intriguing characters and a thriller plot. It is the first novel in a new series featuring Detective Matthias Honeywell. I think it a good beach read. It has a lot of the elements of a procedural, plus like most books today, each chapter switches points of view between characters. Fortunately, imho, book two in the series is available since there is a cliffhanger, and perhaps the beginning of a romance! Only time will tell if Honeywell ends up with a honey!

*ahem* Excuse the terrible pun.

I’ve copied the book blurb:

Ok, the book didn’t cause my my neurons to fire wildly with shock - I’ve been reading mysteries for fifty-five years - but it is a satisfying mystery, well written. I plan to read book two, Keep Your Family Close. Being a Kindle Unlimited member, it was ‘free’.

Where the Guilty Hide by Annette Dashofy is the first in the new Detective Matthias Honeywell series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Harper Collins - One More Chapter (and in particular Chloe Cummngs),  and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Information:
Detective Matthias Honeywell and his partner Detective Cassie Malone work the Major Crimes Unit in Lake Erie, Pennsylvania.  Matthias is single, has been burned, and although he dates, is shying away from commitment.  Cassie and her veterinarian husband are looking after their grand-daughter while her mother is deployed.

My Synopsis  (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
A series of home invasions has Matthias and Cassie on high alert.  During the second robbery, one of the victims dies, so now it's a homicide investigation.

Emma Anderson is a freelance photographer who moved to Erie in search of her sister.  She is also on the run from her abusive boyfriend Clay Bauer.  Although she should feel safe, and knows she is being paranoid, she sees Clay everywhere.  During a walk on the beach, Emma starts photographing seagulls.   She unexpectedly captures the image of a dead body.  The same body that Matthias is looking for.

Matthias starts to wonder if Emma knows more about these home invasions than she is letting on.  He knows she's hiding something.

They will have to learn to trust each other.

My Opinions:
Although I thought it started a little slow, the book still ended up being a fast read.

The plot was quite good, and eventually moved at a good pace.  The characters were entertaining, and although it was somewhat predictable,  there were enough red herrings in it to make it interesting.  I liked how the two story-lines came together.

Okay, we all know I'm not a romance fan, but I did like the budding relationship between Emma and Matthias.  Go figure!

Anyway, I will be watching for the next in line!

This was a great thrill ride and enjoyed every minute of it of my read from the setting to the characters. Just had to stay up late and finish reading it, it so worked everything came together and I just loved it. The 'journey' of the characters works really well. What a great start for a series.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Annette Dashofy has been busy. She already has a highly popular series in the Zoe Chambers series, set in the author’s familiar Pennsylvania countryside but in a fictitious place. Count me in the avid fans of Zoe Chambers. She has a stand-alone, Death by Equine, published in 2021, which was not only well received by readers but also won the Dr. Tony Ryan Award last fall. And now Annette Dashofy has created another series, the Detective Matthias Honeywell Mysteries, and Where the Guilty Hide is Book One. Readers, who are devoted to an author’s long-running series, are always a bit anxious about their beloved author starting a new one. Let me quell that anxiety. The elements that have made the Zoe Chambers series successful are alive and well in this new series.

Erie, Pennsylvania has seen its second home invasion in less than a week. The second one occurs in a wealthy neighborhood in a house that has Lake Erie at its back end. Unfortunately, this time the homeowner gets loose from his ties, and follows the thieves’ van in his car. Detective Matthias Honeywell and his partner Cassie Malone arrive at the scene to find a distraught wife, Barbara, and two shaken-up teenagers. The homeowner doesn’t return home and is considered missing. His car is found empty in a lot, and while there are clues that Wesley Simmons was taken from his vehicle, there are no clues as to where he has been taken.

Emma Anderson has come to Erie to hide and to find her drug-addicted younger sister. Emma is a freelance photographer and is temporarily living in a camper at the local campground. An assignment takes her to the beaches along Lake Erie to photograph kite fliers. The day she goes is too overcast for the kite fliers to be out, so she takes pictures of the storm waves and driftwood. One large pile of debris from the ocean catches her eye, so she photographs it, too. When she returns to her car and looks at the photos on her laptop, she is shocked to see a human arm sticking out of the large debris pile.

Matthias and Cassie are called to the scene at the beach, as the body is a male who might be their missing homeowner. It is, and Wesley Simmons did not go easy into that dark night. The detectives now have a homicide to investigate, and readers will follow an engaging police procedural that shows the steps taken in the investigation and the adding up of evidence to reveal the guilty. It’s a laborious process that speaks to the character of Matthias Honeywell, as his relentlessness to uncover who is doing the home invasions and who committed murder shows a man dedicated to his job and community.

As coincidence would have it, Emma’s neighbor Joe turns out to be Barbara’s father, and Wesley Simmons’ father-in-law. The two men did not get along and Joe’s relationship with his daughter is fraught with turmoil, too. Emma seems to be caught in the middle of all that’s going on, being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Whether this is accidental or connects her to the criminal activity is what Matthias must determine. The home invasion death won’t be the last, and the time to solve the cases will become shorter and shorter.

I’m so glad that Annette Dashofy has added to her already extraordinary body of work with this new series. The cast of characters are relatable and full of interesting back story that readers will want to know even more about. The plot takes some unexpected turns that made me truly admire the author’s control of the story and its outcome. Dashofy knows where the story is going, enabling the reader to keep on track, too. The fast pacing keeps the suspense building and kept me turning the pages. And, the new setting of Erie, Pennsylvania on Lake Erie allows the author to stretch her well-honed talent of descriptive writing. She knows how to describe a place to make it a vivid image, but she also knows not to make description a superfluous barrage. It’s with great pleasure that I highly recommend the Detective Honeywell Mysteries series and its first book Where the Guilty Hide. The next book can’t come soon enough.

I received an advanced copy of Where the Guilty Hide from NetGalley and HarperCollins. I’ve provided my honest review.

Full disclosure: I received this ARC from netgalley.com and Harper Collins UK in exchange for an unbiased review. Thank you for this opportunity.

I like puzzles. Some people like word puzzles, cross words, wordle, anagrams, like that. Not for me, I ponder too long over misspelled words -no wonder the anagram never works out. I like mysteries.
Puzzles yes! People behaving badly, oh yes! A new setting to explore, and a plot that offers the puzzle. Best of all, most often good will triumph over evil.

With her latest offering, Dashofy demonstrates again why she is an award winning author. 'Where the Guilty Hide' sets the stage for her Detective Matthias Honeywell Mysteries. The book opens with Emma, a free lance photographer walking through a graveyard. Assigned to photograph images from gravestones, she is drawn to the sound of pained laughter. A hooded figure glares at her. For Emma, this is enough for fear to almost overwhelm her. She pushes against the fear, after the individual leaves she captures a striking image; the gravestone complete with 2 empty beer cans.

I am completely hooked. The setting, Erie Pennsylvania, is a departure for Dashofy. The Zoe Caldwell series, for example was set in a fictitious Pennsylvania County that closely resembled Monongalia County PA. I admire the amount of research that Dashofy has done to bring Erie to the reader. Along with setting, Dashofy creates such believable characters, one could expect to meet Emma, or Matthias walking down the street. Even the villains, and yes they are despicable, are ones that we would hope to not meet on the street.

This is a procedural. Matthias and his partner Cassie are part of the Major Crimes unit. Emma serves as both a witness, and maybe the romantic interest. I am a long time reader of mysteries, so I would be thinking ahead.. why don't they? or why didn't they do thus and so.. Dashofy's clean, clear plotting would answer my questions.

Why 5 stars? Dashofy gave me a wonderful read. I stand and say, please write fast. I want to know what Matthias will be doing next.

For mystery readers, and for readers YA and above. The violence mentioned is not too graphic.

Set in coastal Pennsylvania, Where the Guilty Hide is the first in the new Detective Matthias Honeywell Mystery series. When freelance photographer (with a past) Emma takes photos of the rugged coastline little does she know her life will take a u-turn very soon. She has courageously fled a recent abusive relationship and she senses her stalker wherever she goes. A pile of garbage washed up onto the beach and a beach yoga class becomes photographic interest. As Emma's finances are grim she lives in a trailer park, complete with interesting neighbours (the potential for future books...!). She is also faced with an ethical dilemma.

Not only do Detectives Matthias Honeywell and Cassie Malone investigate murder but there is also a string of break ins which put people on edge and lives on the line. Emma is also anxious to find her missing drug addict sister. She closes herself out from the world in ways but by the end of the book bits of the walls she's built are chiseled away. Matthias has a history, too, and I look forward to learning more.

I like that author Annette Dashofy doesn't do handholding. The plot and subplots enmesh beautifully as well.

My sincere thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this fascinating mystery and for introducing me to this series. Wonder what the author has in store for us in the next installment?!

Emma doesn’t want to be noticed. She would love to blend in with the locals in Erie, PA, and go about her business as lowkey and quietly as possible. All is well and good until she realizes, after a rainy morning of taking snapshots along the coast of the lake, one of the images contains a human arm.
She reluctantly alerts the police, but her very reluctance pushes her to the top of the suspect heap. She has some life-threatening concerns of her own, and walking the fine line between cooperating with the investigation and keeping herself out of the limelight proves to be painfully impossible.
As those few who befriended her seem to fall victim to harm, the clock is counting down on who will solve which crime first. A quick-paced and enjoyable nail-biter that has its claws in you until the bitter end.

It’s looking like this is the beginning of a new series, and if this book is any indication of what we can expect, it promises to be a very good one! The storyline offers plenty of action, enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and will hold your interest until the end. The characters were well developed, very likable and relatable. It’ll be interesting to get to know the characters and see how relationships develop as the series progresses. This was a thoroughly entertaining introduction to this new series!

4 and 1 / 2 stars.

Detectives Matthias Honeywell and his partner Cassie are working the case of a home invasion and robbery in an upper class neighborhood. They then receive a call to another home invasion. This time, the man of the house broke free of his restraints and followed the robbers in his own car.

Later freelance photographer Emma Anderson is taking pictures of the seagulls and other scenery along Lake Erie in Pennsylvania where she now lives. She lives in a little seventeen foot trailer in the local campground, hiding from her past. She hopes.

After arriving home she looks at the pictures and notices that in a pile of driftwood and other debris she has captured a photo of a person’s arm. She calls the police.

So begins a fantastic, fast-paced and tension-filled romp in the little village of Erie.

Matthias and Cassie are very competent cops. The body Emma found turns out to be the husband who followed the robbers. Now the stakes are higher. In the first home invasion, no one was hurt. Now they have a murder. The investigation intensifies.

This is a superb police procedural. If you like that genre, you will love this book. The characters are so well drawn that the reader becomes familiar with their thoughts. There are some surprises and some sadness. This is my first book by Annette Dashofy, but it won’t be my last. I immediately went to Amazon to look for her other novels to add to my Kindle. I hope to read more about Matthias, Cassie and Emma.

I want to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter for forwarding to me a copy of this most excellent book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed in the review are solely my own.

This is a new to me author, but I really enjoyed this book and will look for more to come in this series.

We meet Matthias Honeywell and his partner Cassie Malone, detectives in PA. They are investigating some break ins and then, in turn, a murder.

We also meet free-lance photographer Emma Anderson, who ran away from a bad situation and is quietly living in Erie, PA while she tries to find her missing sister. When Emma photographs a dead body in debris washed ashore on Lake Erie while on the beach, she quickly becomes a part of the murder investigation. Not good for someone trying to lay low, and who also starts to feel her ex is around and watching her.

I loved how the two storylines came together. I enjoyed the spark between Emma and Matthias and will be interested to see what happens with that. I will be on the lookout for additional books in this series.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins-UK for my gifted ARC.

I have known fellow Pennwriter Annette Dashofy since before she was publishing, and I will not mention how long that has been. I have happily attended most of her book rollouts, listening as she read chapters, and got her to sign each one in turn. Often, when I got home, I'd skim a chapter or two to see how she was doing, but have I had the chance to read any of them from cover-to-cover? Um, no.

So when she started a new series this year, with this book, I decided to make an exception, and to squeeze this into my busy reading schedule. I owed her an actual review, after all this time.

It is hard to review a mystery/detective procedural without generating spoilers, but I will state the premise and make key observations. The book is set in Erie, Pennsylvania, which happens to be the location of annual Pennwriters events that Annette and I both teach in, when we can attend. Several of us have discussed setting fiction there, Annette has now actually done it. Erie is an interesting place, with real history and some useful variety, so that's a good choice of location for a series.

Her new central character is a police detective named Matthias Honeywell, who frequently works with a senior detective, Cassie Malone. This case seems to circle around a photographer who happens upon a key clue, one Emma Anderson. Emma has secrets, Emma has problems, and Emma doesn't need to be getting the attention that comes with crime story publicity.

The story starts in the aftermath of a home invasion. Pricey home, family tied up, valuables and expensive artwork stolen, husband breaks free and chases the robbers, and isn't now answering his phone.

Is there a grimace in this book? Yes, alas, on page 360. Only the one, but still. Are there any misuses of the word "careen"? No.

Did I enjoy reading it? Why, yes. Did I find myself putting other things off a bit so I could read "one more chapter"? Yep. Did I stick to my plan to read just one chapter a day? Um, no. It's a page turner.

Am I at risk of reading the next one, when it comes out? I'm afraid so.

How does that make me feel? I invoke my privileges, under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution, and to the similar rights under the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Recommended. Except for the grimace. Just skip that line.

I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an advance copy of Where the Guilty Hide, a police procedural set in Erie, Pennsylvania featuring freelance photographer Emma Anderson and Detective Matthias Honeywell.

Emma is taking pictures on Presque Isle when she discovers a body. Meanwhile Matthias is investigating a home invasion where the homeowner is missing. Now the home invasion is a murder investigation and he wants to know what Emma is hiding. He reminds her of her stalker ex boyfriend and she’s frightened.

I thoroughly enjoyed Where the Guilty Hide, which is a pleasantly straightforward read. Obviously there are twists and turns and a bit of emotion, but A leads to B etc. in a fairly linear fashion. I found it very easy to read and follow. That is not to call it cosy, because it has a certain sharpness that that genre doesn’t.

I found the plot and the writing compulsive. The author has a way of drawing the reader in, so initially I wanted to know who was behind the home invasion and murder and I wanted to know why Emma was so frightened. Then there is a series of events that add to the mystery and make the reader want to know even more. It is very well done without being overly dramatic. I was equally impressed by the solution as it was an angle I hadn’t even considered. Full marks for concealment.

There is a hint of something between Emma and Matthias with the usual romantic trope of initial distrust and dislike leading to, well, I’m not quite sure. Friendship definitely, more than that will be explored in any further novels probably. Both are wary of romantic entanglement, but there is still something.

Where the Guilty Hide is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

I received a gifted copy and am providing a review. January 2023.
I have never heard of Ms. Dashofy but I am so glad I have now! I look forward to reading more from her. If you’ve never heard of her or read any of her books, I would encourage you to do so. I’m sure, like me, you’ll add her to your list of favorites in no time.
Emma finds herself trying to escape her past, but everywhere she looks she feels like she’s being watched. She ends up hiding out in a campground in Erie, but not only is she trying to escape her past, she is also trying to find her sister, Nell. Nell’s last known residence was in Erie … somewhere. For employment, Emma works as a freelance photographer for a couple of different publications. She is almost out of money when she gets an opportunity to work on a project for a friend of hers, taking pictures for a project he’s working on. Along the way, she finds herself taking a walk along the beach, noticing a yoga class, all the while taking pictures of what catches her eye - the seagulls, the water, the clouds, a pile of trash … or at least it appears to be a pile of trash. Little does she know what would happen after she took that picture. Enter Detective Matthias and his partner. Enter a case of some home invasions, but how are they tied to this picture?
If you like a story that has multiple different story lines that all tie together in the end, this tale is sure to keep you turning the pages!

From the author of the Zoe Chambers Mysteries, Annette Dashofy, comes a brand-new series that promises to be another hit. The first book in her new Detective Honeywell Mysteries, Where the Guilty Hides, is a mystery that I think every mystery lover will enjoy.

Emma Anderson, a freelance photographer, has moved to Erie, PA to get away from a past that still haunts her. Working for a client, she walks the beach in the early hours of morning to take photos of anything and everything. It isn't until she downloads the photos that she sees an arm in the pile of trash on the beach and calls the police. Detective Mattias Honeywell and his partner, Detective Cassie Malone, respond. Detective Honeywell looks too much like Emma's ex-boyfriend, leaving her uneasy and Det. Honeywell suspicious. When the id of the body is related to a series of home invasions that Honeywell and Malone are also working on, they step up their investigation into the home thefts. The investigation lead to a suspenseful and very satisfying end.

The pros of this book is that it has great characters and a well thought out story line that hooked me from the beginning. There were no cons for me.

If you read the author's Zoe Chambers series, you will love this one, too. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Please Note: I was given a copy of this book by the publisher through Netgalley.com. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was a fast-paced, easy to read mystery told from alternating p.o.v.'s. The first, from Emma Anderson who is a photographer but she lives in a camper on a lake in Erie because she is 1) hiding out from her abusive ex and 2) trying to find her sister whose last known location was nearby 4 months earlier. The second p.o.v. is that of detective Matthias Honeywell who is investigating a series of home invasions in which the second one resulted in the death of the husband/father after he charged after the crew, attempting to get a license plate number or something. The man was at first missing and then found on the shore of the lake after Emma unknowingly shot a photo of his arm in a pile of trash. She had been taking photos of the birds around the lake and only when she reviewed the photos later did she realize what she had and notified the police.

I enjoyed the mystery and will definitely look for more by this author. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is because I thought the confluence of events and people was just a bit too much for me to swallow.

But otherwise, this was overall a great book and recommend it!

WHERE THE GUILTY HIDE

Emma has secrets, fears that make her a bit paranoid and afraid to open up to people. She is living in a tiny trailer, eking out a living with free-lance photography, and trying to find her missing sister while hiding off the grid. When one of her photos accidentally involves her in a homicide case, she cautiously builds connections, with detective Matthias, with a warm, helpful yoga instructor, and with her helpful, protective neighbor . . . not quite sure any are safe, but all alone isn’t safe either.
This book swept me along, not wanting to stop, but also not wanting it to end. At one point I took a little break to ponder how I would want things to go — I was pleased that it continued much as I wished, to a satisfying ending with a hint of future developments. Another in the series? I hope so. I highly recommend this book, wonderful, gripping, fast-paced, well-written and realistic.
* That realism leads to my own personal PSA: A friend told me once that my independent nature would scare off many guys, another friend mentioned that would-be abusers looked for women they could control. I concluded that we should advise young women to be a bit contrary to be a bit contrary early in a relationship, to weed out controlling men, no matter how charming they might seem.

WHERE THE GUILTY HIDE is the first book in author Annette Dashofy’s promising new series, set in Presque Isle State Park on the Pennsylvania shore of Lake Erie. I love traditional mysteries and police procedurals, so this series is a perfect fit for me.
Detective Mattias Honeywell, namesake of this series, and his partner, Cassie Malone, are investigating what appears to be a second home invasion by a team of well-orchestrated robbers who entered while the home alarm system was disarmed, threatened the family with guns and tied them all up in one room. The crew of four then made off with the valuables, including works of art, in a white panel van. Only this time, the father freed himself, jumped in his car and followed the robbers. Now he is missing.
Emma Anderson, a freelance photographer, has recently moved to a trailer park located near Presque Isle State Park. Tracking her troubled younger sister to her last known location, Emma cautiously guards her own digital footprint, hoping to avoid the detection of an abusive former boyfriend. It does not take long for one of Emma’s assignments to bring her to Detective Honeywell’s attention, embroiling her in his case.
This book was exciting, with an excellent mystery at its core. I very enthusiastically endorse this new series. I love the characters (main and secondary) and cannot wait to see them again in the next book.
