The fifth light novel in the Disciple of the Lich series follows through with the pacing and general story elements as the previous 4 installments. We are introduced to a new character, Mel, Rosemonde is present for the majority of the story, and some notable and two-bit characters return. The two most notable things in Volume 5, were that Lunaere, who was mentioned by name multiple times, really only had one actual scene in this Volume, which is a significant departure from the previous novels, and that, secondly, Philia has some significant development as a character. Other than that, the story and depth of the series and Volume 5, albeit not great but far from bad, remains the same, and is an exciting and fun read.
The story in this volume feels rushed and poorly planned. Most of the action scenes are slowed down due to non sense dialogues. As usual, the final battle with the BBG is just boring. The MC fisnished it without breaking a sweat. The plot doesn't make any sense. While Philia gets kidnapped, we see Pomera just reading papers and doing nothing, and Rosemonde, despite having dialogues and plenty of space in this volume, ends doing nothing. No character has any development or growth this time.
