Rate this book
Ryder Vittor has almost everything he could ever want. He was a successful bull rider, he runs a rodeo company and a ranch for his family, and he's right where he wants to be. Until his grandmother issues him an ultimatum. Now he has to get married and have kids if he wants to keep the life he loves, but he can't exactly produce a man and a baby out of thin air, can he? So he sets out to hire a husband in order to get what he needs.

Kase McDaniel is at the end of his rope. His bull riding career has ended in a bad crash, his family doesn't want him back, and he has nowhere to go. When Ryder offers to let him come stay at Ryder's New Mexico ranch, he's grateful, but he's stunned when he finds out Ryder intends to make a contract with a stranger to marry him and raise kids with him. Kase has been in love with Ryder for years, so why shouldn't he put in for the job?

Neither one of them has any idea what they're setting in motion when they tie the knot, and soon they're overrun with foster kids, rodeo family, and more. Can Kase and Ryder find something real in all the chaos, or will they be parting ways when the contract ends?

This book is low-angst, full of life and love fun. Ryder and Kase were friends on the rodeo circuit. They hooked up one glorious night and Kase hoped for more, but Ryder didn't do friends with benefits and told him that they could just stay friends. Later, Ryder retired out of the rodeo when he broke his neck and entered a slow recovery period. After that, Kase also received very bad injuries in the rodeo and, when needing a place to recover, called up Ryder to ask if he could spend a few months at his ranch.

In the meantime, Ryder's grandmother told him that he would only inherit the ranch if he married and had children. Furious inside, Ryder concocted a scheme to marry by contract to some man for a year, adopt a child (which he wanted to do anyway), and meet the terms of the new will. As Kase and Ryder spent time together, Ryder confided in Kase and Kase volunteered to sign the contract. Kase knew he hoped for it to become permanent because he always had a special feeling for Ryder. What will happen when Ryder notices his own feelings becoming something more? As the husbands move into their marriage and work with the foster care system, will the children pass through temporarily or will a family be formed?

This book has all of the good feelings, a lot of southwestern ranch feel, and much love and healing to go around. Kase and Ryder have all the romantic love. I look forward to more books in the Foster Ranch series.

This is a 3.5 for me.

I understand why Ryder's grandmothers made the decisions that they did, but it made me mad on his behalf, and I took some time to warm up to them because of it.

I do like Ryder and Kase though. I think that they were really good guys and they just wanted to help make their family.

Another great story by B. A. Tottuga! When she writes, I feel as though I'm there. Ryder and Kase have a history dating back to their involvement in the rodeo circuit. Ryder retired after breaking his neck and is still healing at the Broken C Ranch.
Kase has recently retired after his last "wreck," but in his case, he has no place to go. He calls his former competitor to ask for a place to stay for the time being until he fully recovers. Ryder holds no grudges and says okay. They find out that the two of them still share the spark to be better as one.

This was not what I expected (and not in a good way). The couple in this story is weaker in comparison to other Tortuga couples. We just aren’t given enough time with them alone falling in love. It doesn’t help that the mutual love confession doesn’t happen until 80% in, and until then, Kase keeps declaring his affections towards Ryder and NONE OF THEM GET ADDRESSED.

I really wanted to love the kids in this story, but I was getting frustrated at how they took time away from the couple. Their romance, their complete conviction to be it for each other is the foundation of this story. They are literally building a family!!! Kase should not be unsure at that point that Kase loves him and wants him to stay, NOR HE SHOULD BE SO DESPERATE IN TRYING TO PROVE HIMSELF EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. GET UP KING!

After a certain point the emotions felt contrived and forced. Like I was being told how exactly I should feel about these characters and their situations. And don’t get me started with how everyone’s eyes keep “filling with tears.” I couldn’t find myself caring for these characters until 90% through, and I was dangerously close to DNF’ing this A LOT earlier. I’m sorry to say it — this was boring as hell. It took me three days to finish this because I kept pushing it aside. Just disappointing.

I HATE how the contract is so sidelined in this story. The title kinda promises a “fake husband” situation that just doesn’t happen at all. I do like how the relationship gradually develops between the two, but a fake marriage should be making that development more interesting. It should come with stakes, doubts, fears. They virtually have no qualms about being married a month after they tie the knot. There is no tension here. No real ticking time bomb. The contract is meaningless.

Individually, these characters are great. Ryder is vibrant and dependable, and Kase is more nurturing and passionate. Together? They’re just a good team. Best bros. By the end of the book, the marriage just seems convenient at best because, while Kase loves Ryder, Ryder just seems grateful to have Kase.

I’m just disappointed since I was a really really big fan of “Bigger Than Us” another book by Tortuga and co-authored by Jodi Payne. That story similarly explores how a family just falls into place sometimes, but it does so masterfully because the foundation of the story, the COUPLE, is prioritized and their development is given the time it deserves. We are given CRUMBS in this story. I felt so bad for Kase since the love felt unreciprocated and one-sided, and that until late in the book, Kase was functionally still a friends-with-benefits deal for Ryder. I was really hoping the story would an employ the “he falls harder” trope when I got bored and came really close to DNF’ing. Well NOPE.

one sweet, moving, heartwarming romance

Rating: 4.5 🌈

The first in a new series, The Cowboy Contract (Foster Ranch Book 1) by B.A. Tortuga is another in this author’s lovely cozy cowboy contemporary romances.

This one sets itself apart in that it’s low angst with little to no high drama but instead relies almost solely on the real , relatable characters and elements of foster care and the issues children have when adapting into their new environment.

It does start off with the premise of contract husband but that is quickly discarded when the foster children come into play and their needs as well as troubled history takes center stage.

As it should.

Former bull riders, star Ryder Vittor who was forced into retirement by a broken neck, and , Kase McDaniel, who’s major wreck crushed so many bones in his body, that retiring was never in doubt, are a perfect pairing.

As superbly crafted by Tortuga, they are so familiar with each other, so in sync and comfortable with their actions and thoughts it’s as though they’ve been together for a longer time period. Which they have as bull riders on the circuit. Extremely realistic and easy.

She makes these men absolutely believable in every way, from their speech to their relationship and how they relate to those around them.

That includes the marvelous lesbian married grandmothers who raised Ryder and help run both the ranch and rodeo enterprises. Strong, impactful women and wonderful characters .

However, your heart will truly belong to the four foster children that comes into the lives of everyone who lives on the Chiara ranch. That’s a orphaned family of four. Charlie, a sixteen-year-old girl. Elijah, an eleven-year-old boy, Dani, eight-year-old girl, and tiny Nell, a two-year-old baby girl.

They arrive with a heartbreaking history, separate issues and sets of challenges, and personalities to endear themselves to the family at the ranch and readers alike.

Of course, there’s animals like adorable dogs, goats, and horses too.

This is one sweet, moving, heartwarming romance. You will want to just curl up and sink into this group of characters and children as they work their way into becoming a family .

It’s a marvelous journey and one you won’t want to miss.

I highly recommend it. And wonder what the next story in this series will bring.

THE COWBOY CONTRACT by BA Tortuga is the first in her Foster Ranch series, and is a heartwarming marriage of convenience to big happy family with the kids story. Ryder Vittor and Kase McDaniel start off as two friends healing from rodeo injuries and end up with everything they’d ever dreamed and maybe more. A delight.

Another Masterpiece Relationship story by someone I consider in the Top of their Field!
Cowboy Contract brings us the story of Ryder and Kase, two Bull Riders with a shared past. After both men suffer life-changing injuries in the ring, Kase contacts Ryder for a place to recover. Due to family issues, Ryder is looking for someone to play the part of a loving husband so as to not lose his inheritance. Though this is a fairly common trope in all types of romance, This author takes it and just makes it into one of the most beautiful stories of growing a relationship that you will ever read. This is a habit with BA Tortuga and one I hope they never break! The author is a Master Storyteller whose tales have just a natural flow to them. It's just amazing. These are slow burn love stories that do pack some heat once they get going, but the character and relationship development between the characters, and I don’t just mean the Leads, always comes first in the authors books. In Cowboy Contract we don’t only have the connection between Kase and Ryder, but between Ryder and the Grandmothers who raised him and everyone with the children that suddenly come into their lives. You really never want the story to end and that is how the author writes them. No matter what book of theirs I am reading, I alway check my reading progress and am shocked at how much I have left to read when so much content has already been put into the story. Someone BA Tortuga manages to pack in 2 to 3x the content into the same number of pages as most other authors, they just keep going and I for one hope they never stop! Another Must Read in my opinion by one of my Favorite Authors.

I loved this feel-good, focused on family, cowboy romance. All the characters felt very real, and I love how much the Grannies are a part of the story. I liked how Ryder and Kase’s rodeo injuries aren’t downplayed, and that they have so much love in their hearts for each other and their family.

Ryder’s attempts to buy a husband are fun, and I love that he’s so naïve in the wording of his adverts. Kase is good for him on so many levels, and vice versa. They fit so well, and I was very happy they got their second chance together. I knew Ryder’s determination to keep their relationship as a business transaction wouldn’t last long, but that was half the fun in reading the story. I was cheerleading for the evitable from the word go. I liked how they have years of friendship behind them, and how well Kase fits into life at the ranch.

The supporting cast, and family/found family add an extra joy to this story. I’m already a huge fan of this author’s cosy cowboy stories. They always leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling, and I love the opportunity to be a part of the characters’ life for a while. I enjoy reading about them going about their day-to-day life, and growing into a family at the same time.

The Grannies are wonderful, although sneaky. I wouldn’t want to get on their wrong side. Despite the way they force Ryder’s hand it’s obvious from the beginning it’s from a place of love. I love how quickly they include Kase and the children as family too. Nanette is family in every sense of the world.

The dogs/puppies play their part, and I especially loved how they connect with the children.

The ending is a wonderful HEA for their whole family. Loved it.

Cozy Cowboy is a really perfect description of Ryder and Kase’s friends to lovers story. This is a wonderful option when you want some low angst sweetness, with lovey and likable MCs, some kids who need saving, and two amazing grannies to help keep everything together. Both Kase and Ryder are recently retired from bull riding, their careers cut short by brutal riding accidents, when Kase reaches out to Ryder for a place to stay when he is released from rehab ( for his injuries). Kase realizes that Ryder plans to marry a stranger after his Grandmother’s ultimatum- to get married and start a family if he wants to inherit the family ranch. For Kase, who has loved Ryder for years, this is a perfect opportunity! He will be Ryder’s needed husband for a year and help with the mission to start a family. Ryder doesn’t need to know yet that Kase has every intention of making it a permanent happy ever after. I loved the idea of them taking on foster parent training as a family, the grans included. These guys are super sweet and when they take on fostering four troubled siblings , Ryder and Kase are all in. Taking care of these kids quickly becomes their mission. The author has a very unique style, and I enjoyed how her cowboys talk, it’s very original. I also loved how much genuine emotion she achieved in the foster parent part of the story, you may shed a tear or two. This is a really engaging and lovely story, very much looking forward to more from this new series! ❤️

What a great book. Kase is a bull rider who gets hurt. When in physical therapy, and asked for an address to heal up fully, he thought of Ryder. Ryder was also hurt in the rodeo and was at home recovering. He agreed to have Kase over to heal. At the same time, Ryder’s grandmother said he needed to get married and have a child. When Ryder told Kase the situation, he said he would do it. This is their story of how they got together and fostered four siblings. I love this authors books and the way she writes about cowboys and family. This is a must read and I recommend.

I loved this feel good, family based, cowboy romance.
Cowboy Contract brings us the story of Ryder and Kase, two Bull Riders with a shared past. These two have competed against each other and remained friends. Each has suffered career ending injuries.
When Kase comes to stay at Ryder's ranch he finds out about Ryder needing to marry and start a family. Of course he volunteers for the role, he has been in love with Kase for ages. Wanting to add children to their family, they find themselves looking at fostering. Four terrific kids get added to the home.
I loved watching these two evolve into the kind of family they need and deserve.

I enjoyed this book start to finish. I really enjoy stories where the two MCs have a preexisting relationship prior to the start of the story. And while I would classify this as a friends-to-lovers story there wasn't any of the whole angst involved of I can't tell him how I feel because I'll lose him that is prevalent in a lot of those types of relationships. I love that Kase knew what he wanted and went after it. I also love the addition of the foster kids. Reading their journey to become a family was wonderful.
All in all, this was a great read.

All’inizio è solo un accordo.
E poi arrivano i figli.
Buon viaggio ❤️ La vostra Fly

The Broken C Ranch is where Ryder has worked his whole life. He's in on every detail, from the variety of animals, cattle, and the side business where they own a Rodeo.
Ryder is retired from his rodeo riding due to

a neck injury. Now, his Granny has issued an ultimatum: get married and have kids in order to inherit the ranch ! Yes, she knows he's gay ! Ryder's not happy.
Kase, his long time friend is recovering from

serious injuries from the rodeo and is down on his luck. He has no family to lean on, so he asks Ryder for help, a place to stay and rehab.

We get a dynamic cast of characters, including the kids, with a well paced tale and surprises along the way. Plus we get c o w b o y s and the strong "cowboy way."

Ryder tried to find someone, but it was a disaster every time. Kase and Ryder decide to get married, take the foster parent classes and then will try to adopt, if they can.

It's soon Christmas and the agency has a foster need they can't turn down, four siblings living in a storage garage need them. So, through tears, humor, and warm hearts, they get Charlie-16F, Elijah-11M, Dani-8F, and Nell-2F.

It's a beautiful story. Tissues required.

The pairing of our guys, Ryder and Kase is a match made in heaven, and doesn't feel like a contract at all.
We get true love forming, deserving kids, a new family formed, Christmas and more. These men and women have just what it takes to make this situation work.

During all of that, we see a romance blooming, growing and succeeding. The men get hot sexy times and their hearts joined, plus a terrific epilogue.
ENJOY !

Loved the premise of this book. Though I’m still mad at the Grandmother, threatening his place on the ranch to force him to find a man and have a family was a horrible thing to do. Happy ending or no, I’ll be holding a bit of a grudge against her on Ryder’s behalf!

Ryder grew part of a rodeo company/ranch dynasty. He’s helping to run it now that he’s retired from bull riding thanks to a serious injury. There are a hundred and one moving parts. So when he’s told he has to find a husband if he wants to take over one day, he approaches the task like he does the business. He sets out to hire a husband.

Ryder and Kase were friends, turned competitors, with chemistry they denied. When Kase finds himself without a place to go to recuperate and heal from a terrifying accident, he calls Ryder, who welcomes him with open arms.

When Kase finds out about his plan to appease the grandmother, he volunteers. Why not, he likes Ryder and he likes living on the ranch, sounds like a perfect way to recuperate and plan what to do next.

But the more time they spend together, the more they realize they actually need each other. Ryder gives Kase a home and purpose, while Kase becomes the person in Ryder’s corner, caring about him, helping him, and steadying him.

They are really great together, and they have a pretty wonderful happy ending.

If you like country cowboys, eccentric family/friends, and lots of love you should enjoy this one.

Heartwarming, poignant second chance, pretend marriage for two banged-up bull riders
Although I’ve read steamier cowboy stories I can say for myself that this was unequivacably the best by this author that I have read. All the characters are priceless. Ryder is forced to consider marriage and children in order to keep the ranch, rodeo, home that he has always known. He starts searching for the husband “filler” and finds his old buddy, Kase instead. He’s come to stay with Ryder while he recuperates from his tragic bull accident. Kase has had a mad crush on Ryder since they were riding the rodeo together. So, they sign a contract for six months, non-binding after that. When foster children are added into this picture plus two old grannies, this story becomes a notch above average. I truly LOVED this story.
I felt like the language in the narrative and conversation was authentic. Phrases like: “okay, time to ride” when they’re getting ready to begin a job or “called to cowboy up” when they’re forcing themselves to do what needs doing. Or how about “child of his soul son”? Yeah, like that!
If you like sweet and passionate M/M romance between old friends who rekindle a relationship and also find their calling, try this book. I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could. I would also recommend getting some tissues toward the last half of the book. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through Gay Romance Reviews and give it high praise.

Another wonderful cowboy romance from BA Tortuga. The Cozy Cowboys series is a favourite of mine as it has a great relationship that builds between two men but then also includes a family dynamic that can add a dose of mayhem and drama but also includes all the feels.
This time see Ryder having to get himself a husband as his Granny has made it a stipulation for him to inherit the family business. His luck is in when one of his closest friend's, Kase, calls needing a place to recover and when he finds out what's going on, offers to help. Their friendship builds as they work together to show others they are together, as well as Kase gets to know the running of the family business. Then comes the craziness of adding a child to the mix but that brings so much more than either man could have ever expected or dreamed. It equally broke my heart and warmed it as they offer their home out to those in need with the help of Granny and Gram, along with Nanette and other staff from the ranch.
Beautifully written story from this author. I'm always drawn in to the emotions that all of the characters are feeling, not just the MC's, as well as the constant goings on of ranch life.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

A fantastic story, I loved it!

This book is amazing! BA gives the reader a wonderful story with the tale of Ryder and Kase. After one night together, they decided they were better off as friends, especially when the rodeo circuit they ride in decide they make a good rivalry. Both men find themselves moving on after their own injuries leave them unable to ride anymore. When Kase finds himself broken and in need of a place to stay and recover, he calls Ryder who tells him to make his way there. The two men are very much still friends but that is about to change when Ryder tells Kase about his grandmother’s crazy plan. Ryder was the one that got away for Kase and he’s willing to do anything to get another chance to love the man. Their relationship develops and it’s wonderful to see just how much they mean to each other and how good they are for each other. Wanting to add children to their family, they find themselves looking at fostering. Four great kids in need will sweep into their lives and change everything. With the kids, crazy goats, loveable dogs and grannies who rule with lots of love, this book is time well spent and I highly recommend it!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Low-angst on page and full of banter between the two MCs which I am totally in love with.

Kase and Ryder were really into each other way back when they were still both active in the circuit but Ryder got injured pretty badly so he had to retire early but nevertheless he is living his best life as he manages their family's ranch and rodeo shows.

Kase was a great Bull Rider but his last ride has injured his body with more broken bones than anyone should have in a lifetime. When he was asked if he has family or someone where he could stay until he is fully recovered, he could only think of the one man he has fallen for and knew couldn't have. But still they have remained friends, albeit estranged.

Neither of these cowboys knew the events that would unfold when they got together. Neither of them thought that this could be their own road to the "forever and ever happiness they have been looking for all their lives," even if one of them doesn't really know it.

A sweet, low-angst tale of two men who got a second chance of finding true love and true happiness, with old and new family!

The Cowboy Contract is a super sweet, low heat, low angst book about two former bull riders who had to retire due to injuries.

Ryder and Kase were rodeo friends for years until they hooked up one night. While their chemistry was explosive, Ryder decided he'd rather have Kase as a friend than be in a romantic relationship with him.

When Ryder's grandmother gives him an ultimatum to get married and have children and Kase needs a place to stay after getting out of medical rehab, the men make a deal. Ryder just needs a temporary husband, but Kase makes sure Ryder knows he wants their relationship to be real.

This was an ok story for me until the four foster kids entered the story. Watching Ryder, Kase and the Grannies work together to take care of the children was everything. Ryder and Kase were meant to be parents and while I'm still salty over Granny Antonia's ultimatum, she redeemed herself a little in the second half of the book. Each of the children brought something special to the story.

This was a great start to the series, and I am excited to see what comes next.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
