We met these two in a pervious book they had a mini novella now turned into a longer book!! And i liked it. I do wish I loved it more.
My problem with this was the long distance.. I wish that they had talked, text, video chat more to show there relationship grew from that first club meeting.. I didn't see them fall more head over heels.. it was just shown.. not really telling.. which sucked.. because I loved their story in that blacklight novella.. and wanted more.. like yes it was a dom/sub relationship but still I wish they did Phone sex more or talking dirty pictures.. ya know.. beside that I liked the dom/sub relationship it was steamy and delicious how they played each weekend...the drama there was few tiny dramas.. which I'm glad we're solved in a few days and not months.
Crossing fingers the next book is good for me..

I should let her go, I tell myself for the hundredth time. Never, a new voice answers. A dark voice. The one that wants to consume all that Kayla is. Claim her and keep her forever. Suck everything out of her until she’s dry. Never. What can I say? It feels right to be so wrong.
Ugh, I hate when I am confused on how I feel about a book after finishing it. It's especially confusing when this is an author that I absolutely adore, and I was so excited that Pavel and Kayla were going to get a full length story. If you've been following along with the Chicago Bratva series, then you'll know that Kayla and Pavel actually met in the Blacklight: Roulette anthology for Valentine's Day. They sizzled the pages, but it wasn't enough. Their voices were insistent that their story wasn't over as they tried to navigate a long distance relationship.
There's a lot of things that I liked or loved, but there's also some things that I thought were missed opportunities. I think it would be easier to just list a few of them. It's still an amazing story, but I am just confused. I liked it, and I have reread some of my favorite parts, but I think it could have been better.
-Most of the story takes place on the weekend meetings between Pavel and Kayla. Although you get to see how much the weekends mean to them, I would have liked to have seen more of their interactions with everyone else during the week. I thought it would have made a better story to show how much they are changing to the people who know them best. -I would have liked to see mini text and phone call sessions during the week parts. I just felt that it was weekend meeting after weekend meeting for awhile. Absence makes the heart grow founder, and it would have really cemented that point. -Both of them are going to have to grow and adapt if they want the relationship to work. They just have too many challenges between them, i.e. the distance, the nature of their relationship, etc. However, I really thought that Pavel had an instant change. I would have liked to have seen more of a gradual change from grumpy Bratva Soldier to In Love Dom.
Pavel and Kayla's story... and I'm disappointed. Maybe the cover combined with the previous books in the Chicago Bratva series had set my expectations way too high. Almost halfway through the book, I started skipping words and sentences... I finished it, but I couldn't feel the chemistry between the main characters and the story just ended up being something that felt flat.
P.S. An extra ⭐ because the one thing that I LOVED is the cover!
Pavel is a rough, dominant Bratva soldier that is paired up with submissive Kayla at a BDSM club for their valentine roulette. He is only determined to invest a month in the relationship but Kayla it’s just too inviting. They have the many misunderstandings along the way and her friends against the relationship and also the distance. Can they overcome all of these obstacles to make a real relationship work?
The Soldier is book four in the Chicago Bratva and a great addition to this series. Pavel is a Bratva soldier and Kayla is an aspiring actress. They meet each other in a BDSM club. Pavel knows he should let her go because he believes he isn’t good enough. I loved Pavel and Kayla together, the chemistry between them is sizzling, and I thought they were perfect for each other. I definitely recommend you read this one for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
Once again, Ms. Renee Rose has spun a fantastic tale. The story is the fourth in the Chicago Bratva series but could read well as a stand-alone. The two characters, Kayla Winstead and Pavel, meet at Black Light BDSM club, where they were paired by the spin of the roulette wheel. What starts as a night of BDSM turns into weekends—Pavel flies from Chicago to Los Angeles for them to be together.
“So we’ll enjoy what we have, no? While we have it.”
Kayla is an aspiring actress originally from Wisconsin and learning that dreams don’t always happen as planned. While she and her roommates have managed to get some exposure, they haven’t hit it big as they all had hoped. However, Kayla and Sasha were good friends and enjoyed BDSM—and it is through Sasha, she will meet Pavel and play at Black Light.
“This is the messiest non-relationship relationship I’ve ever had. It feels like a tightrope walk with no net, but the exhilaration is addictive.”
Pavel left Russia and is now in the Bratva under Ravil. He is known as a soldier and does whatever is asked of him. Meeting Kayla was a fluke, but she was a service submissive who has floored him. When he was paired with her, he considered her too delicate, but she surprised him and allowed his sadistic self to come out.
“Getting sent to America to work for Ravil while I was lying low was the best thing that ever happened to me. Ravil brought benevolence, reason, and stability when all I’d ever know before was violence and chaos. He takes good care of his cell.”
The story will involve Kayla and Pavel, but it is weekends of dominance and submission, a master/slave arrangement. What is supposed to be purely recreational has a way of changing as time goes on. Ravil isn’t necessarily happy with Pavel leaving each weekend too. But there is a standing agreement between Kayla and Pavel; when this no longer works for them, they willingly walk away. Tell that to the heart!
“She’s not a pain slut. She’s a pleaser. A service submissive.” “He’s a sadist, he needs a slave. This isn’t a relationship—it’s an arrangement.” “I crave the emotional tumult of being broken apart and put back together over and over again by him.”
The story keeps the pages turning as life unfolds. Kayla learns that casting calls come with entitled men demanding ‘favors’ for parts. Pavel’s Bratva brothers are with him to teach a lesson when someone hurts someone they care about. While Pavel is in the Bratva, and there is only one way out, a box, there are options, and Ravil throws that ball into his court. Will Pavel find a way to move to Los Angeles and acquire real estate as a new way to still be in the Bratva and be with Kayla? Will secrets come to light and tear them apart?
“No one’s going to hand you the life you want. You have to take it.”
The story has power exchange, dominance, control, and explicit sex scenes. It has life and death danger, some violence—but best of all; it has chemistry and romance
I liked this book but something was missing. Pavel and Kayla have a long distance relationship where they get together only on the weekends. Even though they have great chemistry and some really hot sex scenes, I feel like something about their connection wasn’t fully developed. I didn’t read the novella about their first meeting so maybe that would change my mind a bit? I didn’t like her roommates. I get where they are coming from but they were annoying. Not a lot of substance overall. I just wanted a little bit more depth to their relationship.
Pavel is having a weekend relationship with Kayla in Los Angeles. Kayla is an actress auditioning for various TV roles. As they are together each week, they grow closer. But Pavel originally plans to go back to Russia to be with his mother. During one of Kayla's interviews, a producer comes on to her telling her if she wants the job badly enough, she needs to show him by doing anything he wants...she ends up telling Pavel and he goes after the producer.
I really enjoyed this book. It had the perfect amount of suspense and watching these two fall in love.
Pavel is a soldier in the Russian brotherhood. He met Kayla at a BDSM club, where he almost turned her away. Now he travels from Chicago every weekend to spend time with Kayla. She's young and innocent and he's a killer. He wants to walk away but can't bring himself to actually do it. He loves giving her what she craves. And that makes it impossible for him to stay away.
I don't know what it was about Pavel but I really liked every time he ordered Kayla in a scene, I felt myself flush. So yeah this was pretty steamy. And I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
This is part of a series and can be read as a standalone. Working on review
3.5 stars. I enjoy this series and I love Renee books, but this book didn’t hit the mark. Don’t get me wrong, it has a sweet, loving and a little drama storyline but it didn’t draw me in as the others did.
We met Pavel and Kayla aka Kiki in Black Light Roulette Rematch: Owned. These two were an unlikely pair but they left us wanting more. Well now we are getting more. Pavel has been seeing Kayla since and it seems to be only a weekend hook up. Pavel is more reserved. He has a dark past and at times the sexual kink makes him feel wrong. Kiki is a bit innocent but her heart knows what it wants and that is Pavel. Oh she tries not to fall in love with him but he is irresistible. I love that he cares for his mother and Ravil is always there to sort of push him in the right direction. All the men of the Chicago Bratva are smart and loving. They may be tough guys but deep down the love hardcore. Pavel will do whatever Kiki wants even if it means letting go. I was floored at one point but it was all good. This one will make you want to yell at her friends, curl up and cry, and just plain want more. I am looking forward to when Dima’s story is told.
Now this is what I'm talking about. Want a caring daddy dom who isn't really going to play daddy, but basically takes care of you like a cherish girl? Someone who protects you? This is Pavel. He's one of the Chicago Bratva and his loyalty seems to be torn. This is probably why the Bratva doesn't want any of their soldiers to have relationships outside of the "brotherhood". This story is a romanticized view of Russian mafia men. It's an erotic romance!

The Soldier by Renee Rose is the 4th book in the Chicago Bratva Series that features a Bratva cell in Chicago and the protective, sexy Bratva members that each star in their own novel and get their own HEA. https://www.goodreads.com/series/3029...
The couple in this novel, Pavel and Kayla met in book .05 in the series: Black Light: Roulette War. I didn’t read Black Light: Roulette War prior to reading The Soldier and was still able to understand the couple’s story. Even their time at Blacklight, the sex club where they first met is detailed in this novel. Pavil is a dom and Kayla was his inexperienced sub. The two shared an experience at Blacklight which was so strong, they continued a long-distance relationship where they see each other as often as they can.
While I loved the first two novels, The Fixer and The Director, I didn’t love this one as much. I didn’t dislike it, it’s just that I found it dull at times and redundant. Sometimes it felt like the story was dragging to me.
I did enjoy the emotions we are able to read that prove to the reader how close Pavel and Kayla are. I like that this is an interconnected series where the characters we loved make appearances in this novel.
I didn’t quite like the amount of BDSM in this book, especially in the beginning. I do understand that others may like it, I’m just being honest in saying that to me, it felt dragged on and I was desperate to get to some point where there wasn’t a sex scene. A lot of the beginning was about their BDSM relationship. Eventually we read the plot and relationship between Pavel and Kayla. There isn’t that much angst., however there are some romantic suspense aspects as there is an issue to be resolved.
The characters are in a long-distance relationship where they struggle to cope with their feelings of missing each other and find themselves in the process. Kayla is an aspiring actress in LA while Pavil is in the Chicago Bratva. For BDSM lovers, this would be perfect. This novel delves deep into BDSM and the sub/dom relationship.
For women that love BDSM and a sweet protective hero, I’d say this novel is for you.
I am so grateful to have received an ARC and am leaving my review voluntarily.
The Soldier is the follow up story of Pavel and Kayla. Their story starts in "Owned" a short story in the Black Light: Roulette Rematch short story collection. To truly get these two and their BDSM Dom/Sub relationship I recommend giving the story a read.
These two really grow through The Soldier from an owning master/slave arrangement to a blossoming love. And in true Renee Rose style Pavel is a strong willed domineering all consuming lover. He becomes everything to Kayla and likewise he cannot function without her.
I loved how these two complimented each other and fit together perfectly. Kayla stood up for herself and their relationship knowing that he fulfilled a need in her, which to others appeared dysfunctional. Both characters were more complete and worked better for being with the other.
Pavel has always felt slightly removed from the Pakhan and the other brothers. This story gives him a place. Still tied to Ravil but with his own path forward.
I loved the little insights we get into domestic life with the Bratva brothers from Story sitting on Oleg's lap to watch TV (and his continued use of sign language) to Ravil working with his baby beside him. This is a carefully interwoven story across the whole series and I feel like I know these characters like family.
Kobo+. Contemporary Romance Series Challenge 2025. Tropes: Crime/Mafia, BDSM, Love at First Sight, Family/Friends, Knight in Shining Armor. MC's h. Kayla, actress living with friends in LA, trying to get a break. Friends with Sasha (Maxim). H. Pavel, Bravta Soldier, Pakhan- Ravil(Lucy & baby Benjamin), Fixer-Maxim(Sasha), Enforcer-Oleg (Story), Nikolai & Dima. Mom in Russia.
Basic Story- Kayla and Pavel met through Maxim and Sasha and ended up as BDSM Dom and Sub partners at Dark Knight Club which the Pakhan Ravil met Lucy. They have been meeting for seven weekends and it's getting serious. They have fallen in love. Pavel makes a real estate deal with Maxim and Sasha under Ravil's Bravta rules for his cell to move to L.A.
Summary: This the fourth story in the Chicago Bravta series by Renee Rose. Most of the story was taken up with BDSM and the relationship between Pavel and Kayla. The Bravta brothers were included in the story along with Kayla's roomates. There were two scenes where Pavel stood up for Kayla including making a deal for her to getting an acting part which backfired breaking up the couple temporarily. Pavel did move his mother to Chicago to the Kremlin (building the Bravta live in). It was a short story but it did have some strong points but not really one of my favorites. I gave this three stars.

This is the next book in Roses Bratva series and, as the title suggests is about the cells Soldier, Pavel. Like Ravil & Lucy in The Director (Bk1), Pavel and Kayla initially met in the Black Light Roulette series and Rose has given them their own story. What I love about Roses books is once I finish a book I always want to reread the previous stories. Her ability to make the supporting cast so included in the story is great, I’ve been reading Rose for several years now and she manages to do it in all her Series’s. You’re just as invested in the underlying “going’s on” because you know it’s all leading to her next book. So what about Pavel & Kayla? This is a Master/slave romance, with a good chunk of this book from a Dominant POV. What you do get is the story of a man who hasn’t experienced much love in his life learning a new side of himself, realising there’s more to Kayla than submission, and finding out for himself there’s more to life than he knows. Pavel’s growth throughout the book and his want to be more than he Soldier he is see’s what was a weekend fix into a lovely HEA.
The story of Kayla and Pavil began at Black Light Rematch and they won a month free membership. The story starts after their free month expires and they continue to meet every weekend. Kayla lives in Los Angeles and Pavil in Chicago, but he flies to her every weekend because they just can't get enough of each other. Pavil has no experience with love and feelings and Kayla is a service submissive and just needs to please. If their communication was better, this would have been a much shorter book, but it wasn't and they burned up the sheets when they were together. One problem that Pavil was unaware of and even Kayla was ignorant of was that she suffered a sort of SubDrop every Monday when their exciting, sexually stimulating weekends were done and they were separated again. That complicated their relationship and left Kayla lost. With any BDSM relationship, communication is key, but they both need to be aware of their real feelings. There is so much I could say and explain, but it took me reading their whole story to do that for myself. I recommend you do the same, you'll appreciate taking my advice. I LOVED Kayla and Pavil.
So this is the hardest review I think I have written when it comes to one of Renee's books. I gave this book 4 stars because of how much I love her books BUT I should probably go down to a 3 1/2 star for the actual story.
I am a big fan of Renee's and have read I can't even tell you how many of her stories. The Chicago Bratva has become one of my favorites of hers and I was excited to see where she would go with Pavel's story. If you have been paying attention from the other books we all knew he had a long-distance relationship and I wanted to see how it would work out. I wasn't impressed.
I love the dom/sub part of the story, Pavel and Kayla are a good couple in the aspect of when they are together, but there wasn't anything when they were apart. No communications at all between them. They are in love with their weekends and sex. They barely talked or got to know each other. Kayla knew most of what she knew about Pavel and what he does because of someone else. I understand every book and relationship is different, for me that is why I read these books. But I want to feel the connection between the characters when they are out of bed.
I will of course keep reading this series. This one book not being to my liking doesn't change that. There can always be one. And I hope this book is to others' liking.
The Soldier by Renee Rose : 4.5/Stars (rounded up since I can't do a half star and its was really worth more than 4 to me) 4/Spice
Summary of the book:
Pavel, the MMC, first a warrior for the Russian military and now a Soldier to the Russian Bratva. He is an emotionless killer when he needs to be and broody all the time. Until, he meets a sweet little sub that has him questioning just who he is and what his future role with the Bratva is. Kayla, the FMC is a sweet inspiring actress that has a future and career ahead of her, but loves to please her Master. However, with him in Chicago and her in Los Angeles can they make this their reality, or will his broody take control attitude have safe words calling a halt to this relationship.
Review: Renee, you write some very hot Russian Bratva guys. Pavel is a new book- boyfriend for sure! Pavel has the right amount of angst, grit, and Master Dom to make him a very hot fantasy. He is not new to the BDSM world that is for sure, and the way he has Kayla and her body singing, damn! Kayla, the sweet innocence worried me, but she is self aware Submissive, and knows just how to work her Master. This book will make you believe passion can turn to love.
This was a riveting read, great characters and storyline This was a simply wonderful read I loved the complexity of the characters and the storyline will leave you totally enraptured with the storyline, then you will be like myself and have to read it in one sitting so that you can discover the final outcome.
Kayla cannot help herself when she is around him, she wants him totally in every way possible so that her heart, body and soul is completely filled with everything that is him, he has become the reason she lives and breathes. She is totally captivated by the man and she finds that her need for him is growing experientially and he is enduring many of the same feelings and as you read this story and become immersed within the actual framework of the scenario you will enjoy every single moment and look forward to future books in this series. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Pavel has a dark side due to witnessing his father be abusive to his mother. He is afraid that if he "hurts" a woman during the dom/sub relationship, he will become like his father. Matters are further complicated by the fact that she is an aspiring actress who lives in Los Angeles while he lives/works in Chicago. However, the connection he has to Kayla makes it impossible for him not to spend time with her.
You can't help but fall in love with Pavel and how he treats Kayla. While being in a relationship is new to him, he is willing to try as his heart has been captured by her. Kayla is a people pleaser who one point is torn between her love for Pavel and the misgivings of her roommates regarding her relationship. The question is whether they will be able to find a way to be together.
Ok. In this book we return to a more hardcore D/s relationship. Pascal is making trips back to LA to see his slave Kayla. They had met in the "prequel" in Black Light Roulette. You dont have to read that to pick up their story. Its a long distance relationship between a guy who doesnt dig deeper in his relationship nor share more within. But its also about acceptance. This relationship felt more superficial than others in the series, but its very well written, perfect jealous and possessive male charcter, super smexy times, and a little action to keep interesting. Off to read thr next in the series.
This book burns hit with emotion but I know a lot of people will hate it because it is a Master/Slave relationship but Kayla has a safe word and chooses to stay. When she calls red, Pavil sets her free. I love the strong emotions the author pulls into play. The men in this series are strong, loving and protective; not things that in the real world this type of man is likely to have. In the real world theses men are very dangerous and do terrible things. Who knows how they feel about their women. In this fantasy world they love them and that is what I want to find in a book hero, whether he be pure hero or anti- hero. Renee Rose does a great job.
“You belong to me, and I’ll never release you. Not even in death.”
He has one foot in and one foot out the door. Afraid to think it’s too good to be true. Unsure if he can trust her and when he starts to he second guesses himself. Will they ever get a chance to be full time in the same city?
“My gaze travels to her throat, marking her frantic pulse. The worst possibilities run through my head—she’s an informant. She’s wearing a wire.”
I loved this s story of Pavel and Kayla. They met at Black alight in the last book in Bratva series and see each other every weekend. Kayla is a submissive to Pavel’s Dom. Each weekend it gets harder for them to say goodbye when Pavel has to return to Chicago. She needs his punishments and love-making and he helps her to believe in herself as an actress. However when she discovered she got a part in a television series because of him, she breaks up with him. Will they be able to rebuild their relationship? Can Pavel’s damaged heart learn to love? A fantastic story and well worth reading.
Renee is the queen of Alpha males and Pavel is no exception. Pavel is not boyfriend material in his mind and he is slowly realizing that is what he needs to become for Kayla. It's always a fun ride when the Alpha male realizes he needs to find his softer side in order to keep his woman. Kayla is a pleaser, eager to make those around her happy. It was nice to see her start to put herself first and demand what she wanted in order to be happy. Their love story may have not followed the traditional route, but as they discovered, normal isn't always best. Another hit for Ms Rose!
The Soldier was a story that I was torn between liking and loving it. I sat on the fence and couldn't quite put my finger on what had me indecisive as to how I felt. By no means was this a bad story, I just felt it needed something a little extra. I think my main issue was that I didn't feel that instant connection, the one that draws you into the story and unable to put the book down. Pavel and Kayla's story has a little bit of angst, drama and has a great heat factor to it. You get to watch Pavel's character grow from a soldier to a man in love. Their HEA is a telling that chemistry can eventually become a road for love.
