Monster Between the Sheets

A Bride for the Beast

Rate this book
International award-winning author Nichole Rose and USA Today Bestselling author Fern Fraser have teamed up to take you on a steamy-sweet adventure to a town where nothing is what it seems.

DRAVEN
I've spent my life in darkness, hidden away from the world.
It's where monsters belong after all, isn't it?
But my curvy maid, Dahlia, brings more than just order to my world.
She brings me back to life and makes me want more.
My beastly appearance doesn't scare her. Nothing does.
Except, perhaps, the father she's running from.
But I won't give her up for any man. This beauty is all mine.

DAHLIA
I spent my life fighting my strict father and his outdated opinions about right and wrong.
Accepting a housekeeping job in another state is a way of proving I can stand on my own two feet.
The moment we meet, Draven’s tail sweeps me off them and straight into his arms.
I've never met anyone with more heart and humanity than the sexy, blue-haired giant.
In my father's eyes, Draven is a monster, not a man, but I'm determined to prove him wrong.
This Bride is claiming her Beast.

If you enjoy sassy women, over-the-top men (with a little something extra to offer), and steamy-sweet romance, you'll love this short monster romance!

Draven lives In a town where monsters live he's just shy and wants to be alone he's been like this since a mad scientist spiked the punch. Now he has Dahila a maid in his house thanks to his mother who he suspect wants him to have a friend or more.

When they first meet its alittle tense because of Draven but Dahlia isn't scare she's intrested and wants to get to know him more
Shes met a monster aka her dad he's much worse then Draven. There relationship is slow at fiest and goes super fast. There eachothers first. There is a tiny drama dealing with her father and some wild animals attacking Dahlia but our beast saves her.

Pretty cute read; the hero had his dna altered thru some freak science mistake and developed horns, a tail, blue hair and can’t see in the day but only at night. He was pretty sweet and reclusive, and he stalks the heroine thru the house when she is hired to be his housekeeper.

The heroine left home and her emotionally abusive father, and is starting over in a new town that has more than its share of monsters. But when she looks at the hero, she doesn’t see a monster, she sees a lonely man who is devoted and obsessed with her, a man she loves and is equally devoted and obsessed with. There’s no messing around with these two, as soon as they realize the other has feelings for each other, they’re crashing together.

Minor complaint: there was some continuity issues in the epilogues. First epilogue is 4 years out and they have two kids, a boy and a girl. Next epilogue is 5 years out and the daughter is said to be 18
Months old and the son is 3. Now I’m no math genius, but something seems off there

Safe. Both virgins, no others, no cheating or sharing. No abuse. HEA with epilogues where someone didn’t bother to do a final proofread.

Four "7 foot, blue haired, horned and tailed" stars ☆☆☆☆

"You're mine now," she whispers.
I tip her head back with my hand in her hair, claiming her mouth in a deep kiss. "And you're mine," I growl against her lips. "My beauty."

When Draven was 9 years old he drank a homebrew at a party that was contaminated. He turned into a 7 foot tall, blue haired, horned and tailed monster that can only see at night. He's blind during the light of day.

Dahlia is his new maid. She slowly gets to know Draven and they fall in love. She's not intimidated by his blindness, but he's hesitant to start anything because of how he is and what he looks like.

I loved this book. It was adorable! Dahlia and Draven are so cute together.

I am not reading the epilogue
Or the totally unnecessary second one
There was no chemistry between them
INSTALOVE usually I can handle it but I was thrown into a two page into then meeting and they’re in love ew
Also I was bored and I hated the writing ew
This was just not the vibe
I honestly dreading reading it

Ok forced to read the TWO epilogues bc I feel too guilty for marking something as read when I technically didn’t finish it…

**2.5/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

Draven was nine years old when he drank that unfortunate punch that would change him forever. He became a big beast with a tail, horns and became blind in daylight, making him a creature of the night. Twenty years later, he'd secluded himself in a big manor, living with his mother who only wishes for him to be happy. That is partly why she decided to hire Dahlia as a housekeeper, to help maintaining the big property, but also, in the hope something might bloom between them.

I did like the little Beauty and the Beast flavors at the beginning before they met, but my God did it go downhill after the characters met. The story felt very disjointed, which might be explained because two authors wrote this. It seemed to me that one of the authors wanted to slow down the pace while the other wanted to accelerate the story to get to the intimate parts faster. It created a weird dynamic between the characters and jarring situations like their first kiss and their first time.

Something that really bothered me with Dahlia was how quick she was to accept Draven's abnormality. I wish she'd been more fearful or prudent if that makes sense. The fact they just jumped into a romance without really knowing each other really ruined their chemistry for me. I didn't see where that 'love' and 'passion' came from, it was like I was supposed to just accept it because the authors said so.

One thing that I did appreciate about Draven was the originality of his situation. Yes, he was a monster but he was also a creature of the night which made him blind during the day. I thought this concept was nice, paired with the idea that he wanted Dahlia to live in the light, causing this contrast between their respective life. I also liked that he was a bit reserved and not interacting with her, stalking her a bit through his domain, listening to her muttering, wondering what she looked like, etc. It's just unfortunate that his behavior completely shifted at their first interaction. It felt very misplaced for him to go ahead and kiss her right from the get-go, a behavior so out of the character that was previously described to the reader.

Please scrub the floors; they look a little dull. I promise not to eat you unless you want me to, sweet thing.
-Draven

As for Dahlia, she was a jovial giggling mess that quickly started to get on my nerves. She had no survival instinct or any awareness of what could be dangerous. She didn't question much about Draven's condition, even in her inner monologues. It just felt so strange for her to be so accepting so quickly.

I don't know the first thing about gyms because I'm allergic to them, but I'm not allergic to gawping at hot guys with muscles.-Dahlia

I thought it would've been nice for Draven and Dahlia to slowly get used to each other's presence. This novella had a lot of pages compared to the others in this series and I think it would've benefitted from a slower pace. The dynamic stranger to friends to lovers would've been beautiful. I also wished Dahlia had sought Draven's mom's advices or asked her questions or something. I got bored real quick when the authors decided to skip the steps of realism in relationship making, because this story wasn't even labeled as a fated mates romance (which if it had been, I would've somewhat forgiven their hastefulness in getting close so quickly).

The drama with Dahlia's father felt like an attempt to give her some more character depth but all of it happening at the end, therefore extending the story with three more painful chapters almost made me DNF. But I pushed through, as I want to write a review for each novella in this series without skipping or not fully read one.

Would I recommend this novella? To me, this was a big disappointment because I see there was potential but once again, authors decide to skip steps and get to the intimate scenes rather than work on the chemistry between the characters before hand. Bummer. I wouldn't personally recommend this one. Sorry.

Disappointing.

I’m very familiar with Nichole Rose. Almost every book of hers I read is five stars and goes on my re-read shelf. I’m sad to say she’s broken the pattern with this one.

I’m not as familiar with Ms Fraser’s work and I don’t know how they split up writing the book but it had some major issues for me.

First, the heroine was somehow both a giggling airhead and a know it all. She was so annoying I wanted to chuck the thing after her first chapter but foolishly I persisted.

There are a LOT of inconsistencies in the writing. The wrestling on the ground, suddenly she up against the tree. Her back is facing him but he’s kissing her lips. And my personal favorite, he asks her to marry him and three paragraphs later she wonders “is he going to pop the question?!” These are just a few.

The story was way too long, it ended up being boring. I kept going for the promise of primal play on the horizon and that was lackluster at best.

I’m just really disappointed and expected more, especially after reading the Invisible man story from this series which was great.

….my mood shifted, suddenly, and violently.
I read, like, 6 novellas, all in a row, completely burning myself out with them.
And in the middle of this one I just completely lost all interest. To no fault of the book’s. Really.

I think it’s a cute, Halloween novella, with beauty and the beast vibes(that are totally acknowledged in the book).
My brain just completely shifted into wanting to consume something totally different. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not buying the father's change of heart at the end. I think it's more that his daughter married rich and if he plays nice, he'll get what he wants. Reminiscent of beauty and the beast. It seems that the women in this series get the same nicknames, baby or beauty. I liked how the mother was matchmaking them and how well they got on.

The book follows Draven Asher Woodburn who’s full name is said at least 12 times in an 80 page book, and Dahlia, a quirky woman who talks to herself while she cleans who is running from her controlling father. That part is mentioned later in the book and barely contributes any conflict and could have been completely omitted from the story.
The book is instalove to the max, and features a few very tame primal scenes.
Oh and he has to fight not only a mountain lion for her, but also 4 wolves, bc she is a damsel in distress at all times.

Onto the next and trying not to cry about it, but when only 1 out of 5 books in a series are decent… 🥶

- Beastly/Devilish
- Beauty and the Beast vibes, down to straight out quotes and parallel scenes from the Disney movie
- Curvy FMC
- Insta-love
- Extra virgin main characters
- Face Sitting
- Size difference, sorta, he's over seven foot

Twenty years ago in Screaming Woods, a mishap with the punch at the town Halloween party caused a good number of residents to turn into various types of monsters. All books in this series deal with the aftermath of that event and thus have similar vibes/tropes. Draven was only nine when he drank the fated punch and transformed into a beast. He grew horns and a tail, his hair turned blue, and the light blinded him. He carved a name for himself in the video game world and lived in darkness. At least until his mother hired Dahlia to be their housekeeper. He knew he needed to have her. Dahlia needed to prove she could take care of herself, to show her father she was worth a damn, so she got this job in a whole other state.

This one has by far been my favorite of the series, he is one of the least monstrous of the monsters, I hardly think horns, tail and blue hair make you a monster. Sure he got tall too but again, meh. But I loved him. He was stumbling and figuring things out as someone who doesn't really deal with woman much and offering her a place to sit because the ground was too hard for her was of course very gentlemanly.

Dahlia and Draven made such a great couple and were so much fun to read. I loved that Dahlia was never afraid of Draven or his appearance and was always so sweet and caring towards him. She would always darken rooms so that he could see, spend time with him during the night, play their carnal games in the forest at night and I freaking laughed out loud whenever Draven would be stalking her and Dahlia would somehow sneak behind him and scare him half to death. There is something so sweet about a seven foot tall man jumping a foot in the air in fright thanks to his girl. I want to say thank you to this author for Draven's tail and that it was more than just there. He was always wrapping Dahlia up in his tail to snuggle her, balance her, caress her or just using it to touch her *SWOON* Iove love this so much, it is one of my favourites. Their chemistry was amazing and felt so real and their physical intimacy was amazing, also the dual virgins 🥵 Oh and finally, I get a story with some monster babies and the fact that their son was born with little horns and a tail with his dad's blue hair just made me so freaking happy. Dahlia's father was a total piece of garbage and he needs to apologize to all of them. Draven's mother was also an awesome character and I loved her unwavering support since her son changed. This story just melted my heart and I will definitely read it again.

This is another great story for this multi author collection and I loved it! Dahlia is on a quest to break away from her awful father and Draven's momma hired her to be his maid, as he is a true loner. This well written story is told in dual POV and is quite the sweet and sexy tale. Both main characters slowly came to love each other and made allowances to make sure both thrived. A little drama is included just to keep things hopping and I really enjoyed the reading ride. Good fun!

okay the scene where she introduced her dad to the hero made no sense i actually face palmed. that was probably the most horribly written scene i’ve read in a book in a WHILE.

First off she tells the dad that she’s seeing someone in town purposefully not saying it’s actually her boss for obvious reasons (her dads sucks) she does it to avoid any conflict and she doesn’t want her dad to know anything about him to protect him. Then RIGHT after that she introduces her dad to him?? like 3 paragraphs ago she didn’t want her dad to know about him.

And like any reasonable person her dad flips out when he sees a horn and a tail on a person… then he finds out her daughter is seeing a animal human breed, mix, thing. Like no one would automatically be understanding of that. let alone your own kid is dating the mix organism. Not only that but she knows and it’s been made obvious that her dad is a judgemental and a not understanding person so why would she ever introduce the two? and why would she ever think it would have a good out come? LMAO, this is stupidity…

then it gets worse… her dad rejects the hero (duh) then hero leaves and the hero’s mom pulls up, doesn’t even get a chase to say anything before the heroine… RUNS AWAY?? INTO THE FOREST? the same freaking forest the hero told her not to go into again alone cuz earlier in the book she almost got killed by a mountain lion. why tf would she go back into the woods when she almost got killed by a freaking mountain lion??? pure stupidity… i started to dislike her after this, just so dumb.

like this whole scene turned me off from this book so much LMAO. now let me remind you, all of that happened in the spand of like 3 pages… this is what i mean by a horribly written scene

It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read. 🤷🏻‍♀️It was just exceptionally boring for a monster story. 🙃 Draven is a successful game developer and definitely an agoraphobe. 👀He used to be human until he drank poisoned punch that turned him into a beast when he was a boy. Our heroine is Dahlia. She’s running from her messed up relationship with her dad when she accepts a position in Draven’s home. This is a mostly cozy, slow and unexceptional story. 🫠

The pacing feels weird at times. 👀 The spice isn’t exceptionally spicy. 🧊the backstory with Dahlia’s dad is barely brushed on so you feel so real investment in it 😐 And even with Draven being obsessed with Dahlia we don’t get much tension where he’s “stalking” her. It’s like reading a bad impression of a dark romance 😬

I took way too long finishing this. Because I just couldn’t force myself to keep reading the last half hour left in the book. It was something that brought me so little enjoyment 😅😅 buuuut it’s not a terrible read. It just wasn’t exciting. The coolest parts of the book are Draven’s beastly qualities (day blind, horns, blue hair). But he also calls himself a beast wayyyyy too often and calls Dahlia beauty. Like once is cute but over and over again was annoying 🙄

This novella...
It took me 2 freakin days to finish it.
I'm sure that sentence sums up my experience with it.
I'm all for the fairy-tale retellings. However, this one just wasn't my thing. Which is ironic because I've read a lot...and I mean A LOT of Beauty and Beast retellings and have loved just about every single one.
What was the deal with Draven hiding away in his home for the last 20 years? Why?
He was 9 years old when he changed so he literally grew up in Screaming Woods knowing that it had become a monster town and yet he hid away. I'm lost on why he and his mom chose this route.
Overall, story was okay for me. Took a bit to get into and when I finally felt like I was getting somewhere with the characters and the story they do something stupid and I'm once again done.

I didn't feel this one, though I made myself finish it. The story line just wasn't there. Why did she pick Screaming Woods? What attracted them to each other? There was sex, but no chemistry. The conversation with her dad was a bit over the top. What was revealed was weak as an excuse to run away, could have been fleshed out more. Draven pushing her to contact her dad without knowing her reasons for leaving or listening to her side of things was a d*ck move. Big lack of communication and overly dramatic reactions. At least the writing and editing were good.

This book was better than I thought it would be. It did feel a !little unfinished with the father being just a small blip in the story even though she had such an issue with him she left his house. It is a quick read and about two hours to get through.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Draven was turned into a monster 20 years ago on Halloween by accident, many residents of Screaming Woods were turned into monsters after drinking the punch. He was only nine at the time, the youngest community member to be changed. He developed horns on his head and a long tail, he has blue hair and lost his day vision. He could only see at night. For 20 years he has closed himself away in his family estate. He became a video game developer who has made millions and is thought to be a recluse. His mom hires a new housekeeper who is enchanting to Draven.
Dahlia has left her dad’s home, he is a terrible father who constantly belittles her and is a con man. She is intrigued by something at the estate but hasn’t figured out what it is until she sees Draven for the first time. He has been stalking her in the home since she got there. He is obsessed with her scent, her musical laugh, and her muttering to herself. He can’t see her during the day time but catches her in the library and asks her to turn off the lights and light a few candles. She is fascinated by her first look at him, not scared at all. He is of course enchanted by her. He calls her beauty and steals a little kiss.
He asks her to join him in the garden one night, he can see crystal clear at nighttime, he wants his first real look at her when his sight is at its best. He is in love, they spend time outside and things get heated between them. Soon after they have their first time together, dual virgins, and his tail is sexy and he sure knows how to use it to add to Dahlia’s pleasure.
A little drama when he convinces her to forgive and talk to her dad, after a few days she video calls him and it’s not going well and then she brings Draven to the screen. The dad is shocked at his appearance and is mean to Draven. He’s not surprised but Dahlia is hurt by her father’s words. She runs out of the house. Draven thinks she’s running from him and gives chase. She runs into wolves in the forest and her and Draven fight the wolves and run them off. Adrenaline is running high and they have sexy times in the forest. Lots of I love yous and a proposal. Epilogue with Draven successfully launching a new game with the main non player a likeness of Dahlia. She submits his games to awards programs and he wins. They host a cosplay event so Draven can attend and not feel out of place. They have two children and are pregnant again. Dahlia’s dad and her are working on mending their relationship,

This story is a modern-age retelling of "Beauty and the Beast", while still including elements of paranormal and magic. Our Beast used to be a regular human, until he consumed a spiked magical punch that turned him into a beast.

Although this is within a larger series, the story is a standalone. All 12 books in the series are written by different authors, with the main connection being the location “Screamer Woods,” where our monsters find their human soulmates and stop hiding in the shadows. I grabbed this one for a dose of Monster Romance and listened to its audiobook narrated by Dane Anderson and Ramona Radcliff, both of which are
new-to-me and both doing a fantastic job portraying their characters.

Now regarding the story, I found the premise of how our monsters and beasts were turned an interesting twist, ultimately changing their DNA. However, the story followed very closely to Beauty and the Beast without the moving cutlery. I realize it's a retelling, but I love when authors add more twists to make it uniquely their own.

I also found our FMC’s instant acceptance and insta-love with Draven to feel a bit off. Instead of a sweet acceptance arc, it gave more of a “running from my problems and tying myself to the billionaire beast with horns, a tail, and blue hair” vibe. I would have appreciated more tension and a slower burn as they got to know each other. She could have remained kind, open and accepting without immediately falling in love.

There was also a small issue at the end: the epilogues are labeled as "four years later" in her POV for epilogue 1, and "five years later" in his POV in epilogue 2. This made it seem like his POV happened nine years after the finale, but it becomes clear both are dated from the end of the book. So note that epilogue 2 should really be labeled "one" year later.

This is an OK paranormal romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

First, it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Draven and Dahlia.

I liked that in this story, unlike in several of the others in this series, there wasn't as big of an age difference between the couple. Since Draven was still a child when he was "changed", he wasn't a lot older than Dahlia.

I also really felt like the couple was more in lust than in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't have enough in common to be in love so quickly. It made sense that Draven would fall for Dahlia, since he had been lonely for so many years, but it still seemed like their relationship was mostly about lust.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
