Demons and Debts

Rate this book
A neurodivergent waitress being hunted. An Incubi MC who can help. But will their price be more than she can pay?

When I was fourteen, a woman I called mom was murdered … and it was my fault.

I’ve been on the run ever since, but someone’s chasing me. I don’t know who they are or what they want. The only thing I’m sure of is that I need to keep moving or more people will die.

They’re going to find me again. They always do.

The human authorities are useless. The supe cops, even worse. My only hope is the Iron Incubi MC, the biggest, baddest, meanest supes around. I’m sick of running and I’m desperate enough to make a deal even if it costs me everything I have left.

Oh, and I’m Autistic. My condition means my brain works differently. I can keep it together in the day-to-day and mask my hundreds of quirks when I’m around others for short times, but now the five human-hating Incubi who I went to for help have me prisoner at their ‘clubhouse’, i.e., mansion in the middle of nowhere.

So, what happens when five hot as sin s€x demons lock up a human girl who sucks at all the bedroom stuff, doesn’t cope well with change, and definitely can’t mask her ASD 24/7?

My name is Jane Mercy and I have no f**king clue, but I don’t think it’s going to go well for those gorgeous-enough-to-be-underwear-model, mercenary SOBs … especially when my stalkers come for me …

Okay sooo... I've been in a weird mood lately and have been getting into subgenres I usually wouldn't touch. So here we are in reverse harem. This one was definitely the darkest one I've unknowingly picked up so far. I wish I had read the triggers right off the bat so I could know what to expect but that's just me.

Jane was a great character to read about! I loved her wit and sass! I also appreciate that she's neurodivergent. I disliked, however, how the guys would call her weird (especially at the very beginning of the novel) since the only weird thing she had done up to that point around them was not want to be touched (strangers! hello?) and not meeting anyone's eyes (something that can be an autistic trait but was later partially explained away as rumors she'd heard so she wouldn't be lulled by them).

The guys brought up a lot of red flags for me. I disliked a lot about them. I disliked how they called the contracted women (that they need to have for SURVIVAL) wh*res and b*tches AND they pay them VERY little for their work in my humble opinion. Cheap sakes. I hated that after they found out about Jane's neurodivergence she was called crazy and the R word. They later make nice with her but like HOW? One of them (Paris I think) called her that word to her face. How do you want to be around someone after that? Kor assaulted her.

After I finished reading the book I find out there was a triggers list for the story. At. The. Very. End. That list should have been on the page right before Chapter 1 or at the very least listed in the index so I could have not gone in blind to this book. Here they are in case you want to know what you're getting into:

The story has me by the throat at this point so I'll be checking out the next book in this series. I'm very interested to know more about Jane's story and why these men are hooked on her the way they are.

Paranormal MC Reverse-Harem Romance

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚
Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😊😘😟🤓
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Jane - she is a human with autism spectrum disorder (neurodiversity) and is a waitress at a small diner. She lost her parents at a young age and has a group of stalkers. She has never seen the stalkers, but they find her wherever she moves. They always leave her a note telling her to leave town or they will kill someone she loves. She ignored it the first time and a friend of hers was murdered and had her eyes removed.

The Hero: Vic, Theo, Paris, Sie and Korban - The Iron Incubi MC. They are supes (supernaturals), each of them is an Incubus, which are near the top of the supernatural food chain. They have a glamour and look human, but they look monstrous in their real forms, much larger with horns and a tail.
Vic - The president of the Iron Incubi, he comes from a long line of wealthy incubi. His mansion is the MC clubhouse.
Theo - He is the doctor of the MC. He is a nice guy who likes a bit of bondage.
Paris - He is a flirt and a playboy. He is possessive and intelligent. He could kill a room full of people without any trouble.
Sie - He is big and broody. He has a problem with feeding (including sex) lately and thinks he might be going feral.
Korban (a.k.a. Kor) - he is huge, muscular, mean and grumpy. He is a fighter and is Vic’s Lieutenant.

The Story: Jane has always moved from place to place whenever her stalkers get near, but this time she decides to try something different. She goes to a bar where the Iron Incubi MC hangs out and asks them to help her with the stalkers. She exchanges a necklace that she got from her mother and gets them to promise to help her.

I really liked this story; it was quite different than anything I read before. I liked the autism angle mostly because when I think of autism, I think of little kids with autism. This was a good look at an adult with ASD. She is actually pretty normal most of the time and can mask her symptoms for the most part when she is around other people. However, certain things set her off more than others, she rarely makes eye contact with people, and she has trouble with certain cues and always feels like she is different and separate from everyone else.

I also hadn’t read anything before about incubi. They were a different breed of supernatural than anything I had read about before. They feed off human women but, in this world, they have to follow the laws set by the fae. They can’t just feed from any women but have to sign three-year contracts with the women they feed from. They feed off the sexual energy of the females, so they have to have intimate contact with the woman to feed and the women get off on it like they are drugged. They get a high off of it and are dazed afterwards.

This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Stephen Dexter and Lia Langola. These two narrators did a terrific job. Lia Langola has a youthful sounding voice that was perfect for Jane and Stephen Dexter is fantastic at doing different voices for different characters, so he was great for all the guys.

Let me just say I absolutely loved this. Like, devoured it while forgetting to eat and sleep because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Will say I'm uncomfortable with how the incubi do things and I'm not totally onboard with how noncon it seems. Like women under a lull/their influence it is totally okay to have sex with even if previously they didn't want them, but forcing someone not under lull is 100% not okay. Their house girls are under contract so they know what is expected of them and having sex is their job, but that's a slippery slope. If you replace "used my lull on them" with "used my drug on them" ... you see where I'm going with this? Especially since the girls go through withdraws when they haven't gotten a regular fix of being fed from.
In the the guys defense, they are demons and an MC, but considering their stance on rape and sexual assault it is really weird that they don't see a different between someone actively struggling against them and someone "lulled" into not struggling.

SO, as uncomfortable as that all made me, I really liked the writing and I want to know more about who Jane is, what she is, who her stalkers are, and seriously what is going on?!!?

4.75 Stars!

Demons and Debts was delicious! When Kyra's Dark Brothers series was over, I was so sad but she's come back with a strong new RH paranormal series and what a treat to get my hands on it. If you haven't already...add this to your TBR!

Jane is special - she thinks, feels and does things differently but I loved her more for it. Being neurodivergent has its challenges but Jane manages in the best ways she can and I related and sympathized with her. I enjoyed reading about a heroine that is both introverted yet feisty when she needs to be and tentative yet fearless.

Jane has been on the run for a long time - running from forces she doesn't know anything about. She knows she needs help so she goes to an Incubi MC to seek assistance. But seeking assistance from demons comes at a price. Is she willing to pay it? Are they?

Jane has an end goal but so do her incubi and they're about to go head to head with each other when all of them have secrets and their own internal struggles and trauma. It's going to be a clash of wills and I'm already excited to see it all play out. This ends on a crazy cliffhanger and things are not looking good for Jane. I expect some decent groveling at some point because the demons don't trust Jane and vice versa. There are so many questions left unanswered and truths to come to light.

Our Incubi

Vic - leader, rough and demanding and has a light daddy kink
Theo - kinky, medic, quiet and hiding a past
Korban (Kor) - violent, scary and an asshole
Sie - grumpy and angry but feels deeply
Paris - playboy, possessive and thinks he's the bees knees

These morally grey Incubi react to Jane on a visceral level and they hate it, are suspicious of it and not sure what to do with the attraction. Jane is both mesmerized and utterly confused at her reaction to these men. I foresee an arduous journey for them all. The sexual tension and steam in here was on point and had the perfect amount of slow burn and darkness. There was a significant amount of action to keep me engaged and kudos to Kyra for being able to properly develop five heroes and a heroine. Each character had distinctive characteristics and stood on their own. I loved that we got each of their POVs. I look forward to seeing how they all grow together because whether they know it or not yet, they all need each other.

I can't wait for the next book in this series. Kyra is one of my favorite paranormal dark romance writers and the world she has built here is refreshing and unique. If you like RH paranormal romance with a group of morally questionable heroes that lean toward hate rather than love at first and a heroine that stands strong despite the challenges she's been dealt, then you have to give this a try!

Abusive assh*oles, it pretty much summarize who were the guys. They kept using and abusing Jane in some way and it was upsetting😰. They were just lusting about her but there wasn't an ounce of friendship, love or caring. They were even trying to make her sign a contract for her becoming their slave using deceptive tricks🤬
Well, didn't like the guys at all and found Jane a bit lame, accepting things way too easily🙄
It's a shame because the idea of an autistic FMC was very interesting🤷🏻‍♀️

BBBBBBAAAABBBBBYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! I just finished reading this book and my jaw is on the mother fudge cracking floor. I'm sorry but that cliffhanger just wrecked my whole life! How are you going to do me like that Kyra!

Okay this book was super duper good. I was drawn in by the very first page. There is a mystery with this Jane and her stalkers and I'm DYING to know what it is.

Also the guys are nice to a point but really thick headed as well. Some are really stuck in their own head and it can be a bit frustrating at times. The female main character was pretty good and I liked her for the most part. She is head strong and brave as hell. She tries not to take crap from these guys but sometimes she lets her guard down. I also like the disability rep in here as well. Oh and there are five male main characters all with different personalities and I am loving Sie and Theo. And there was just a dash of spice but I loved it all the same.

And now I am left wanting because I NEED to know what has happened!!! UGH CAN I HAVE THE SECOND BOOK ALREADY PLEASE!!!

Honestly it was a 4.5⭐️ for me and I'm so glad I read it!

First thoughts: Wow. When I heard this was a reverse harem with a neurodivergent character, I immediately signed up, and am oh so glad I did. The storyline and writing kept me on the edge of my seat, and that isn't even touching upon how well written the Autistic experience is. Obviously, it may not be everyone's, but I related a lot to Jane's experiences (except sexy incubi holding her captive, obviously.) You can genuinely tell the difference between all the MMC's, which is a struggle for some in why choose books.

"Sometimes it’s hard being all alone, always looking in at the party that everyone else seems to instinctively know all the rules to and knowing I don’t understand the first thing about how to join it."

There are so many quotable moments I could add, but I really think this is a story best read yourself.

Overall, I do recommend reading!

UPDATE: So apparently the trigger warning which is pretty serious is at back of book at END of story. There is no link to it or listing in glossary. TRIGGER WARNING NEEDED! Was really looking to reading about a neurodivergent FMC. But although the author mentions triggers warning at beginning of book in description on amazon there isn't one. So I was taken off guard by multiple SA attempts on FMC as well as some serious dub-con involving FMC and other characters., violent against her, bullying with in harem, et.... If I had known this wouldn't have tried to read this book. I dont usually leave ratings and reviews about a book like this if I am warned and read it anyways because thats would be on me, not the author. But there is no warning in this book so I am doing so that hopefully those who could be triggered by this content can decide for themselves.

Loved that she's neurodivergent, and that it was so accurately portrayed. Its truely a rare gem in this genre. I can't wait for the next one. The boys have so much groveling to do. I came to really like Theo and surprisingly, Sie.

Her challenges in being accepted by others, her triggers, meltdowns, learning social clues and facial expressions; I feel seen. Thank you author.

Miss girl kept getting attacked and assaulted each chapter like daaaammn, give the poor girl a break lol. I read the warnings but was not expecting it to happen so much, thats all. I like how she started fighting back and getting tired of it, so I can't wait to see how it plays out in the next book.

I hope we get to see more of Vic's daddy kink and Theo's med kink, because yum. The dubcon too. The tension and spicy scenes were well written and thought out, and oh so good. Spatial awareness for the win

Ok. I’m totally invested.
These characters have got me completely engrossed.
The FMC (yes I’ve already forgotten her name, shut up lol) is my favorite of the bunch. I just really enjoy how complex and real her character is. The rest of them are slowly (very, very slowly) growing on me, but I still have just as many reservations about them as they have about her.
And I’m so curious about the shit happening in the background. Like who the hell she actually is. It’s clear she has no clue but the little weird shit popping up has to mean Something, and all I have are some weak theories so far.

I’m really glad I decided to pick this up.
I’m so excited to read more.

So I received this book as an arc book and I really loved it. The fmc is autistic and she pulls at my heart strings because I have an autistic child and I understand the struggle the fmc is dealing with. So you get a "human " autistic fmc trying to get help from a biker club of incubus who don't like humans and hate that they need them even as food. The fmc is trying to do what she thinks is best for everyone and keeps ending up in the hands of the bikers who think she's a spy will she get the help she needs or will the hot bikers dispose of her to make there lives easier? This book ended on a huge cliffhanger! I would totally recommend!

This is a dark, why choose, paranormal romance with a neurodivergent FMC. As a ND myself I was very interested in how the character would be written and how this would come across in the story. Well to say I was surprised is an understatement, I have never related to a book character more! I absolutely loved this book and recognised my own reactions to certain situations (apart from spicy times with an Incubi - I wish!). This book was fabulous and I highly recommend reading it, but I must warn readers of the cliffhanger, I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the second installment.

What a great start to a new series!! I loved the storyline and couldn't put it down. (I may have read until 3am to finish it!) There was action, suspense, angst and steam and so much more!! I loved Jane and I loved how unique she is. I'm also glad we got the guys POVs as well! Not sure i have a favorite yet, but i do really like Theo and Sie. There is definitely questions left to be answered and I can't wait for book 2!!! That ending!!!!!

DNF. The story was too weird to follow. It felt as if no one was on the same page. Nothing redeemable about the MCs. A bunch of idiots who repeat everything 10x. They do not even take the job they are paid to do by the heroine seriously. It was like reading about Dumb and Dumber. Absolute idiots. They can't even do a simple job. They assume everything and take nothing seriously. Very frustrating. Good luck.

I loved this book! ‘Why choose’ slow burn romance between an Incubi clan and a seemingly human woman. The female main character is autistic- this is well written and respectfully done. The book hooked me in with the story and all the sexual tension between the characters. Highly recommend.
There is a cliff hanger ending and it looks like the author is working on the next book.

This poor girl running away from something or someone she can’t see , or rather she hasn’t seen them. I love that she is on the spectrum . Then she enlists help from incubi that was just crazy especially since she’s just a human . There is so many things I want to know especially after that cliff hanger. Definitely kept me at the edge of my seat !

So I loved this book. I found it to be really unique and the character diversity to be great. I love that our FMC is nurodivergent. I feel like it’s not something that is ever well represented. I do hope we see certain things in book 2.

I couldn’t put this book down and stayed up far too late on a work night reading it.

That cliffhanger is going to haunt me. I need book 2 now.

Amazing!!! This is a new to me author and I’m now going to have to get my hands on everything else she puts out! These are my kind of demons! Everything is consensual but it’s just grey enough to make you question if it is or not. Jane is amazing, it’s great to see a little diversity in an h. The demons are… well…. I’m not sure about them yet. That ending though?! I neeeeeds book 2. 💜

I honestly want to throw a good old fashioned tantrum tight now, stomping and groaning included. Until the bitter end I was unsure if I’d be reading on. Motorcycle gangs are not really my thang nor is that an environment I find productive of a real relationship, harem or not. These guys being incubi and having contracted women living in the basement didn’t help matters, surely not my opinions of them. When it comes to their behaviors, thoughts and words when it comes to the heroine leave a lot to be desired. In fact they are pompous assholes and deserve to be brought down a few pegs. Honestly they are all rather dim witted for being immortal. It’s clear Jane is no plain Jane, yet they jump to conclusions and make assumptions as if they have all the answers when they clearly know nothing. If not for such a brutal cliffy I might have just given up but damn if I don’t want to know more. I really enjoyed Jane because she’s not your typical heroine and considering her life and the world she lives in she’s really doing the best she can. While I don’t think making a deal with these guys was even worth it, I really REALLY hope the guys are going to prove me wrong.

Intense Noncon/dubcon with autistic FMC

This book has been difficult for me in some ways because it has a lot of bullying and general cruelty toward the FMC from all but 2 other characters (and they feature very briefly). The author writes well and it’s easy to get sucked into the mind of the FMC with her neurodivergence impacting the way to interprets things. All the MCs have a lot of baggage and I’m still unsure if I’m rooting for any of them to be with the FMC. But I NEED to know what happens. So it’s a solid 4 stars.

Spice: 4/5

The cliffhanger

The first half of the book is a little slow. The last 20% really picks up. I wanted to read this because the main character is austistic. I enjoy that aspect quite a bit.

Part of me almost regrets reading this before the next book is out. I didn't think I would be this invested. Thus I'm annoyed with the cliffhanger. Also, please read the list of trigger warnings before you decide to read this.

The FMC is neurodivergent and suffers some mental abuse because she's misunderstood. Thankfully this gets straightened out. However, even with that hiccup, this book was such a great read. I've purchased the other two books so I can finish reading the series. I love Jane's character, she's vulnerable, but has a "take no shit attitude" at the same time. Although she's not aware of it she's taming these demons, and I do believe they care for her more than they're letting on.

I already knew that Kyra is very good at seducing me with her larger than life men,her sweet and resilient women, and her very interesting worlds.
After her delicious Dark Brothers series was done,i was hoping she’d come with something as good as that, and she delivered in spades with the ARC of the first book in the Desire Aforethought series,Demons and Debts!!

Another RH paranormal, this one has the Iron Incubi MC,that consists of Vic,Theo,Paris,Sie and Korban.
They all have their own “qualities”, but kindness isn’t one of them…..
That doesn’t really matter to Jane, because she only needs them to take care of the stalkers that have been making her life hell for the past 10 years.
Jane is unlike any girl they’ve ever met,and they’re intrigued enough to accept the job.
But Jane didn’t come to them to get rid of a bunch of irritating teenagers, and the threats don’t stop. Leaving her with no choice, but leaving (again!) the very few people she connected with behind, and move to a new place.
Because if she doesn’t, they are the ones to pay with their lives…..

The only problem is that the MC won’t let her go.
Plus the fact that even though they don’t seem to like her, there is some kind of strange attraction….and they’re all feeling it.
But they only want to play with her, right?
Because they found out about her medical condition, and want to have a little fun at her expense, right?
Or is there something else going on….

The MC has had trouble of their own lately, and they can’t really figure out who’s behind it.
But maybe Jane has something to do with it?
She may appear harmless, but there’s something mysterious about her….apart from the autism, that is.
It’s tóó much of a coincidence she came to them, asking for their help….right?
She can deny it all she wants, but the way they all feel a certain attraction can’t be simply because there is one….there hás to be more behind it!
And they’ll get her to confess….

Jane may have had autism, but that didn’t mean she was a freak like she seemed to think.
She was tough, had survived everything that had been thrown at her from when she was still a kid.
Even though it was just her against the world, she still remained strong.
Sure,she had her moments,but who wouldn’t?
She just needed someone to stand by her,to make her feel less lonely and a little more…”normal”.
To see,and love, her for who she was, even if she still needed to that figure out for herself….
There ís more to Jane than meets the eye,but what that is,remains a mystery for now.

The incubi may seem to be intimidating men that only care about getting what they wanted, there is something more to them.
Vic(ious) is the boss for a good reason,he keeps a clear head, and knows what he’s doing.
He may be ruthless, but he’s patient and caring when needed.
Theo is the doctor, and he may be a little quiet, but he’s very observant of those around him.
There’s more to him than he shows, though.
Kor(ban) is Vic’s lieutenant and has a violent streak that gets an outlet in paid fights, and hates humans even more than the others do. (For reasons that are not quite clear yet)
Sie is on edge most of the time, mostly because he doesn’t feed off the women enough.
He acts rough and grumpy, but feels deeply.
Paris seems to think he can have any woman he wants, that he’s simply irresistible.
He seems easygoing, but is very possessive.

Kyra had me from page one with Demons and Debts, and by the time i reached the killer cliffhanger,i was fully invested in this sextet.
There is só much going on,só many secrets and threats from different sides, not to mention the sexual tension between them all….

All i can say is,that i need the next book more than my next breath!
