The book description specifies this is a complete boxed set (books 1-5). It includes, #1-Owned, #2-Craved, #3-Ruled, #4-Possessed, and #5-Desired and is a complete story. (Apparently these were originaly published as a novella series.) Brutal Kings II is the same and also is now published as a complete story/boxed set.) Each set tells a different couples story but takes place in the same world.
This book (set) tells the story of Nikki Love and Dario Caraldi. I loved Dario. He's one of those strong alphas who knows what he wants and goes after it. He's got a good heart. Brought up in the Mafia, he pulled away from it and has made his own fortune in Vegas and doing his best to stay clean. Nikki is a kind, caring woman, raised her sister and is putting her through college while also protecting her from their unscrupulously degenerate father. She is morally upright and eschews anyone or anything that even hints at questionable morals. When the father loses Nikki in a gambling debt she finds herself in the middle of a corrupt world.
I loved the story, but I had some issues. First ... things never made clear. Specifically, the wager her father made and lost. Was she the wager or the collateral when the debt couldn't be paid? Who was the wager made with: Dario? The trafficker?
Second ... Her reaction to the overheard conversation, and her subsequent fear and need to stay away from Dario, was too puritanical ... a bit over done; and her misunderstaning of the overheard conversation not believable. If I overheard the man I've come to love, saying about another man (the very man who tried to rape me, planned to use, abuse then traffick me), that he was going to cut off said man's specific appendage and feed it to him before killing him, I don't think I'd be too upset or misunderstand. Especially when I'd learned that man was still set on capturing me and proceeding with his vile plans. (Or maybe I've just read too many Mafia romances! LOL!) But, I do kind of get it...she was supposed to be his moral compass, keeping him on the straight and narrow, away from the criminal life he was brought up in.
My third and last issue is that while the reader learns the details of that final rescue and take down of the traffickers, what Dario's involvement was, Matteo's connection, etc., the heroine never really gets a good explanation, she doesn't get those details. She just goes from being so morally horrified that he could kill someone, and believing he meant her harm, to going back to him after hearing only that he was there and that Matteo let him go. The closest Matteo comes to defending Dario is when he tells her how he found her; because it was the one place where Dario knew no one would find her.
And in spite of all that, I still loved this story. I admit, I'm a sucker for an alpha anti-hero who, from almost the get-go, knows what he wants and will do anything for the girl he loves with his whole heart; including letting her go if that's what she wants, because he wants her with him of her own free will. 4 stars. And Yes! I will be reading Brutal Kings II, Matteo and Andrea's story!
When I downloaded this box set I mistakenly thought it was comprised of multiple stories. When I hit the 50% mark, and felt like the "first story" was dragging on, I re-evaluated the set. That's when I realized it was just one really, really, really, really long drawn out tale. At this point I was invested in the characters, but also getting bored. I hate not finishing a book but I did skim alot of the remaining chapters to finally get to the end. I liked the supporting characters, and think they would transition well into their own stories, but if those stories are as dragged out as this one I will have to pass.
This is not five different stories, this is one story of Dario and Nikki. Very misrepresented. The story did not flow well going from one thing to the next with little explanation for important aspects of the story, such as Nikki leaving her employment as a nurse in order to fulfill Dario's demand that she become Dani's nanny during the day and his whore at night.
I am very on the fence with this book and this author. She desperately needs a good editor and a better understanding of the English language and how that translates while writing a novel, example: such as paracetamol/pain med, trolley/gurney and calling a carry-on, a "wheelie bag". There were too many peculiarities and gaps in the story and too much emphasis on sex and how beautiful Dario is and what great breasts Nikki has and how awesome the sex is; blah blah blah. Insta-attraction love/lust is not something I like in a novel preferring a slow build with some back and forth. I like a good dose of sex in any story, but honestly, that is all these two did.
The characters had no connection for the first half of the book but Dani and sex. Dario's character vacillated between being an ass and screwing Nikki. He was condescending one minute and demanding her submission the next; which she did willingly. Nikki's character was supposed to be strong and smart, but I felt as though she was naïve, childish and not the mature RN who had gone to college and had an important job. She did too many things in the book that showed how unsure she was of herself and didn't handle revelations in the book in a mature adult way. The book had it's fair share of outliers as in Daddy dearest, Dario's father and grandfather.
Overall the book had it's moments as far as the supporting cast, but not enough for me to read any of the other stories about the other characters that were introduced in this book.
Owned: This is an addictive start to a new series: Brutal Kings. I loved it! Dario is So swoon worthy and Nikki is a very likable character. Their chemistry is combustible. Then, throw in Dario’s sweet little son, Daniele, and it’s perfect! The book is a very short, fast paced read with a cliffhanger. Craved: Book #2 in the Brutal Kings series continues where book one left off. The drama continues for Nikki. I think she and Dario are unaware that they are falling in love. There’s so much heat in this short, fast paced series addition. Ruled: Wow! This series is just getting better with each addition! I’m So loving Dario and Nikki’s hot relationship. I was, however, disappointed in her reaction to his “work” confession. I mean, has she had blinders on this whole time? Possessed: Dario and Nikki’s drama continues in book 4. Oh my, there’s so much suspense and intrigue. You never know what will happen next. Their chemistry is scorching hot. There’s a twisted cliffhanging ending. I cannot wait for the finale. Such an entertaining series. Desired: This series was awesome and the finale was perfect. I loved Dario, Nikki and Daniele. Each book was so entertaining. Lots of drama, steam and romance.
Okay so. To start of this was a good mafia romance. I loved the writing style of the author. It’s my first book from Mya Grey. I hope to continue the series too. Note for the book part:
O king of didnt understand which book started and which book ended. Because I didn’t see any cliffhanger scenes that would indicate that. Plus the whole book set to me couple hours so it wasn’t that long. Honestly out felt like one average standalone book. So let’s review like that. First half of the book was weak. Plot was rushed and there were too much steam. I mean as an alien romance lover, I found this much. This is big coming from me lol 🤣. I kind of disliked the insta love and insta lust part so that’s why I dropped the star. That was so unnecessary. Because I saw what the author can do towards the end so she could handle first part much much better. Maybe they could come to love each other after interactions with Dani. I must also mention the Matteo situation. I knew it for some reason lol🤣 I am curious about their story in the next books. Theirs will not bring insta love, makes me want to read much more!
Overall, this is a good start of the series. Recommended.
I will start off by saying that I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. Unfortunately this book left me quite frustrated. The synopsis doesn’t really match the book very well, yes she does fall pregnant with twins but not until after 90% in and it is a bit of a non event. Actually the book itself finishes around 93% then the epilogue is about another character followed by a sneak preview of the next book following this other character. The pregnancy is extremely briefly mentioned and then that’s it. To be honest I didn’t see the point of pregnancy written into this. The book was a bit strange it felt like I was waiting for the story to kick in but it kinda fizzled. The storyline had potential but just never really went anywhere. It is almost like the author had some plot ideas, started off these plot lines then just abandoned them. I found myself wondering if I missed chapters. Extremely disappointed in this one, also I wasn’t a huge fan of the MFC, I found her quite hypocritical.
Dario Caraldi’s family may not be always on the straight and narrow but Dario runs a legitimate hotel. He is doing it right for his son Daniele. Nikki Love is a nurse. Her father is a gambler and she trys to stay away from him as much as possible. He summons her to a casino and tells her that he gambled her and lost. She was basically sold to a man to pay off her father’s 3 million dollar debt.
Dario ends up owning Nikki. The series centers around two main storylines. One is the interaction between Dario and Nikki. The other is the relationship between Dario and Raoul and Mateo.
The whole series was wonderful. The action kept me on my toes the whole time and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened from book to book.
I Was So Wrong! I never bought a complete series but now I know it's the only way to go, especially if the books are short and always end on a cliffhanger. This way, you don't have to fume because of the cliffhanger or go find and buy the next book. It's like a large size novel.
Brutal Kings is action packed, has explicit sex scenes, a great plot, interesting characters and a HEA. Dark, twisted Mafia romance with age gap, single dad, good girl, bad boy trope. Trigger Warning: Violence and Sex Trafficking.
Dario nd Nikki are brought together by her being sold and bought in a card game. She's a good girl who's willing to pay off her debt and Dario comes from evil, has been bad in the past and knows she's not going to pay off that debt as easily as she thinks. Redemption might cost them both more than they expected...
The Caraldi family is not one for the straight and narrow though Dario has a legitimate hotel. He is trying to show his son the right way to live. Then there is Nikki Love, a nurse. Her father is a gambler and so she tries to stay away from him. When she is summoned to a casino by her dad, he tells her that he lost her. She doesn't understand at first but quickly learns she was sold to a man to cover her father's three-million-dollar debt. Dario plans to own Nikki. Will she let him? There is lots of action going on throughout the story that keeps you reading to the end. Good Characters and storyline. Easy one-click.
Brutal Kings this boxset contains books one through five in this intense series by author Mya Grey. Each book is fast paced and packed with so much. They keep you on your toes and feel you with ….. ok almost forgot this is for Amazon (be good be good). Anywho, as I was saying this is a great read you’ll get all the drama - action and suspense your… heart wants. Brilliant thing is it doesn’t end here, there’s more. Yep the series goes on - so tootles. Enjoy!!
My God this is an intense read! Hot as hell, scary yet a great love story.
Mya Grey has convinced me that I should read more in this series! I was not sure when I started that I would be able to stomach the brutality, surprise I did. This is a well written story, granted there are a few grammatical errors, and absolutely incorrect words snuck in, but overall it is well done. The editors need to take a bit more time to clean things up. I do recommend this book, I hope you all enjoy it and support the author.
I have followed Ms. Grey for a couple years now and never been disappointed. I enjoy her books and especially her series. There is always a downside or could've gone without this part, of a book, but overall I'm a forever fan. Her characters and storyline come to life for me, where I hate to see the series end. Thank you for allowing me to be an ARC reader, although I haven't been as active lately since life brings its own curveball to interrupt my reading time.
Nikki was sold by her father, a drunk gambler, who cares for no one but himself. Nikki can't believe her life has come to this but to save her sister she'll do anything. She doesn't anticipate falling for her buyer. Dario is rough, hard, and stubborn, but absolutely loves his son. He can't be all bad can he? It was a good read.
A good book with a good twist at the end. Most of it you can see coming but it was well written and the flow of the story made sense. I think this should actually be only considered one book, I realise it published as 5 but it’s only all together that the story makes sense, one big book is better not 5 short stories.
Dario and Nikki We follow them in this box set and it is a page turner with some twists and turns you never expect Lots of action and little Dani brings in family love like only a child can We have betrayal had its highest level, friendship and brotherhood Great job as always Mya Getting ready to read box set 2 Maeto and Andy story
Fantastic storyline with incredible characters that I absolutely loved reading about and I would thoroughly recommend this series hoping that others enjoy it as well. A man trying to reform, the woman he bought that he couldn't resist and the secrets that they keep that could change everything. What more could a reader want.
When I started reading the book I thought Dario was evil and believed he was the one who was selling Nikki. But as their story unfolded I could see how he fell in love with her and how he never held her to the money owed by her father. This story was full of everything you think of the mob and more. Started the second book and hoping it's just as exciting as the first.
I almost stopped reading this book but got hooked on Nikki’s story & Dario. So glad I finished it in 2 days. I was hooked. Love the ending. Now I cannot wait to read the series. I’m not getting anything done but it is summertime & I love a good romance story! Thank you Mya.
This story has everything to keep you reading this book. Trafficking, abuse, lies, betrayal, hate, killings, torture, action, violence and maybe even love. I loved the story line, characters were well developed. I love Mafia sexy alpha males just like Dario. Can’t wait to read about Mateo!!! I would rate a 10 if I could!!!!!!!
This is an excellent box set and I loved Dario and Nikki's story. Nikki is basically sold off by her father for his gambling debt. When she finds out that Dario, a man she had one great night with is the person who now "owns" her she is concerned with what she is going to have to do for him. This is a great read and I loved it.
This series centers on two major topics. One is the interaction between Dario and Nikki. The other is the relationship between Dario, Raoul and Mateo. This story is Captivating and thrilling! I couldn't put this boxset down!
Her father has sold her to a mob boss to cover his gambling debts. She doesn't want to do it but he guilts her into it by bringing up her younger sister. Only she finds herself falling for the guy, can she save herself or will she be forever lost?
Characters are well defined. You easily identify with the 'good guys and girls' and find yourself rooting for them. Just as you want the Caraldi clan and Nikki's dad to suffer. Worth the read and I'm already starting the sequel.
I loved this book, so glad I followed my mind and bought it. These 2 had me laughing, tears, and grabbing for the ice cubes. Glad Dario got his revenge and Nikki got her happily ever after.
This series was absolutely amazing!! I couldn't put it down til I had read absolutely every last word. If you like close friends that become family and men and women who would do anything to protect that family. This steamy exciting series is for you!!
I really enjoyed Dario and Nikki’s story. The editing could have been better but the story was very good full of intrigue and lots of hot sex. The characters are described well.
This was one hot ride. I like that he was bad but he was trying to change and she made it easy for him to do that and secrets come out about his past helping him further. They are so good for each other and hot together love it
Loved this book lots of action and loved Dario and Nikki. Nikki's father was a piece of work selling her off but Dario saved her and fell in love with her can't wait to read about Andy Nikki's friend
