Sombra Demons #3

Bonded to the Beast

Rate this book
I didn’t mean to steal the book—but I did… and now I’m in big, big trouble.
The moment I convinced one of my loyal customers to buy the leather-bound spellbook, I regretted it. At first I thought it was because I could’ve gotten more than fifty dollars for it—money that would’ve come in handy while I was on vacay—but while I was on the beach, all I kept thinking about was the book.

It called to me for some weird reason, and when I got Shannon’s message that she had a question about it, I hoped that meant she would let me buy it back. Nope. She wanted to know where I got it from.

Too bad I had no idea. Almost as if by fate, it popped up in one of my boxes of stock, but I couldn’t trace it. Believe me, I tried.

So when Shannon offered to drop it off so that I could get a closer look at it, I jumped at the chance. And that’s how I found the “true love” spell in the middle of the book.

I don’t know what made decide it was a good idea to read it out loud, or what came over me when the beastly shadow monster appeared in my bedroom and crooked his claw at me…

One thing led to another and, suddenly, I’m the bonded mate to a horned demon who doesn’t speak English, who stole me away to terrifying world of shadows and skulls, and who I can’t stop touching even so.

When I finally understand him, there’s only one thing my new mate wants to make sure is clear: I’m his. He has no intention of letting me go, either in Sombra or my world.

And it isn’t long before I start to wonder if it would really be so bad to be forever bonded to the beast…

*Bonded to the Beast is the third book in the Sombra Demons series. It tells the story of Kennedy and Loki, the bookseller and her beast.

Liked learning more about Sombra, the culture and the people of the realm.
Couldn´t really connect with Kennedy tho. She was too quick to give up on her home - earth - and all that she has known and loved for my liking. But hey, thats fated mates for you, right?
I´ll probably continue reading this series still.

I love this book, the chemistry and attraction between Loki and Kennedy is amazing and carnal, no skimping on the spice here. Loki is Caveman and Beast in the being, and I love it. He's so attentive and understanding with Kennedy. He's been waiting a long time for his soulmate and he's not taking any chances on losing her, so he's kidnaps her, and treats like a queen, and she's a bit standoffish to begin with but warms up to him, but the attraction is there from the beginning. They end up having to go through so much just to stay together because Loki when almost demonic, but Kennedy brought him back from that, but his clan still see him as a risk. They get there happily ever after in the end. Yay, the spice and communication between these two is hot, and you get it from the beginning. Go read it, you'll love it, all I need to know now is where do I get my own Sombra Demon ❤️

This was a cozy demon romance with a mid-level spice rating.

I enjoyed the relationship between Kennedy (human) and Loki (demon). I was a little bothered with the language barrier at the beginning of the story, lucky it didn't last too long.

Not much happens in the story. It is just about the relationship between Kennedy and Loki and how they grow as mates. It was simple, easy, and cute. It worked well because it was a short read. If you are looking for an easy monster romance then this series is for you. The writing was good, I enjoyed the characters, and it moved along at a decent pace.

“I am very happy. Because I have your essence now and I can sense your feelings for me.” Loki beams. “And you love me. Maybe not as much as I adore you, but that’s only fair. I’ve longed for you my whole life, loving you in an instant. It will take more time for you to share my feelings, but I promise you, I will stop at nothing until you do.”

Once again, the Sombra Demons series hits home! I didn't think any demon-human couple could make me blush and giggle quiet like Mal & Shannon from Mated to the Monster but once I read Loki & Kennedy's story I couldn't help it! Thank you, Sarah Spade for their fluffy and adorable tale!

What is most memorable about Loki & Kenedy is that she not only completes him as his mate, but HEALS him from the inside-out. He was so close to being absolutely lost in the wilds, an outcast of Sombra. Kennedy gives him back the magic he lost when he was banished from being a mage. He rewards her with his undying devotion, and this is NOT because of the mate bond between them.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the Sombra Demons series! They are my guilty pleasure and I am most unashamed to admit it! 😘

I enjoyed this volume, the fact that the two protagonists decide to live on Sombra is interesting. I also appreciated that there is a large part of the book where the two do not fully understand each other, it is quite interesting and allows us to see the evolution of the characters. However, I find that the fact that Kennedy abandons his bookstore is very quick without any reflection, which makes the character much less credible.

AGH i’m conflicted bc TBHHHH like it was good but i feel like it lacked depth!! i feel like any and nox and shannon and mal had more STORY and more LORE but i feel like this story somewhat lacked that?? i feel like… it was TOO fast paced BUT i wont lie and say i ddidnt enjoy it bc i absolutely loved it! i could’ve 100% finished it in one read but i was reading it between study breaks for my exams LOL😭but yeah tbh it’s good for a quick and easy read! the ending somewhat made up for the quick paced-ness of it

Kennedy And Loki were okay together, I kinda didn't feel like their reason for finding the other was as organic as the previous two books. I understand the draw to the book as well as the longing for love but I didn't feel like it quite worked as well. Bonded to the Beast was still a good read I just wanted more of a draw for Kennedy and Loki to be together than convenience.

I like the her bringing him back from insanity part, but the Stockholm syndrome was a little strong. Also not a huge fan of the pregnancy trope. If it was a little bit longer to flesh out the romance and the pregnancy/end conflict it would've been much better

This is the only book I have ever DNFed. so many typos, horrible writing, and everything was so rushed. Not to mention the majority of the smut was left out or glazed over. I also couldn’t deal with the constant repetition of the same thoughts/memories/concepts on every page.

Bonded to the Beast is another sweet and cozy installment in the Sombra Demons series, and it definitely delivered on the charm. The story focuses on the growing relationship between Kennedy, a human, and Loki, a demon, and it’s one that takes its time developing in the most adorable way possible. It’s a quick and enjoyable read, perfect for those who want something easy and fun without a ton of plot complexity.

The relationship between Kennedy and Loki is the heart of the book, and their bond is both endearing and emotional. I particularly liked how the two grow together as mates, learning to trust each other and navigating their unique differences. The one issue I had at the start was the language barrier, which felt a little slow to get through. However, it doesn’t take long for them to figure things out, and once they do, their connection really takes off.

This story is a little light on heavy plot points—there’s no major drama or high-stakes conflict. It’s a lot about the connection between the two characters, which honestly worked really well for the pace and length of the book. If you’re looking for a short, sweet, and uncomplicated monster romance, Bonded to the Beast is a great fit.

The writing is solid, and the characters are likable. The spice level is somewhere in the middle—enough to keep things interesting, but it doesn’t overshadow the sweet moments between Kennedy and Loki. I found myself rooting for them the whole way through as they figured out their bond.

Overall, it’s a light, charming read that hits the spot for anyone craving a quick demon romance. If you’re already a fan of the Sombra Demons series, you’ll definitely want to pick this one up. It’s a delightful addition to the series, and I’m looking forward to seeing where things go next!

Bonded to the Beast by Sarah Spade, part of the Sombra series, was a bit of a disappointment after the excitement and charm I felt of the previous books. While I was eager to dive back into this world and continue the story, this installment felt watered down to the point of being mundane. It lacked the magic and emotional depth that I’ve come to expect from the series, making the experience feel more like filler than a fully fleshed-out continuation.

While I hoped being able to see Sombra had potential, the story felt anticlimactic, especially when it came to the main female character’s hesitation and eventual acceptance of her feelings. The emotional connection that felt stronger in previous books just wasn’t there this time, and the lack of tension or real development left me feeling disconnected from the characters. It seemed as though this book had to be written simply because we already knew these characters, but it didn’t have the same heart or impact as earlier stories in the series.

Although I pushed through to the end, I was left disappointed.

Bonded to the Beast whisks you away from Earth into the shadowy world of Sombra, where Kennedy accidentally reads a "true love" spell and summons Loki, a fierce, enigmatic demon who doesn't speak her language. Their connection ignites slowly but steadily, and watching trust build between the two is absolutely worth the wait.

I loved the chemistry and Loki's protective nature, especially the nightly devotion declarations showcasing his softer side. World‑building is solid, Sombra feels distinct, ominous, and full of potential for more adventures.

That said, the early language barrier slowed down momentum, and I did wish for deeper emotional layers and more visible conflict as they faced challenges together. It's also on the spicy side, with a high heat level, so only read it if you're expecting that.

Overall, Bonded to the Beast is a fun, steamy paranormal escape, perfect for Demon or monster romance fans who enjoy a gruff protector and a slow-burn romance in an atmospheric setting. Just be ready for occasional slow moments and an English-to-demon translation curve!

✧𝀈❀Overall thoughts:

Interestingly enough, after saying I won't continue this series, curiosity got the best of me, and I went through and read this book, and I can say that it did its part. At first, it was so interesting, and it had me glued to my e-reader's screen because OMG, but then it kind of let me up and had a kind of disappointing ending, but it's alright. It happens to the best of us.

I learned a lot about Sombra, and I loved how our MMC was a mage, a kind of scholar (not really, but I like my men nerdy, so I'll take anything I can get), and kind of feral. I also liked the cat-like pet Kennedy acquired.

It was a cute, short read.

(AND OMG THE MMC'S NAME IS LOKI! MY OBSESSION WITH HIM COULD NEVER. OH MY GODS!)

4 stars!!!

decent read

Spelling and grammar errors aside, I actually enjoyed this book. I wasn’t sure I was going to because I’ve been coming across quite a few duds lately. I must say I read this quickly as I really wanted to know more about Kennedy and Loki. I am not sure if it’s because I didn’t read the books in order or not, but I feel like I could’ve gotten more from this story. I definitely feel like the author could go more with these two characters and their back stories or even their futures. They caught my attention and I like their storyline. I kind of want an ungez for myself too!! I will definitely be reading the other stories in this series but maybe in order this time lol!!

Nice touch that Loki and Kennedy couldn’t communicate for the most part at the beginning. She must be the heaviest sleeper ever if she thinks her first encounter with Loki was all a dream. She tries to explain some of her stupidity as a character flaw. She gets angry and overreacts but cools down quickly to apologize. Yeah, no. I don’t think so.

I felt sorry for both of them at one point or another. She got snatched away to Sombra without her consent. Loki misinterpreted so much but tried so hard. I loved the dedication he would recite after Kennedy fell asleep every night.

Why can’t Loki travel to earth with Kennedy if she wants to visit? Obviously Mal and Shannon make it work.

As soon as I finished the precedent novel, I went to grab “Bonded to the Beast” and see if I would like it.

Conclusion is: while the plot was interesting and I was intrigued by having a more “feral” male lead and how he came to be that way, I still felt like something was missing. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed both main characters but I wanted more. More details, more angst, more depth ?

It was a good and easy read but I do wish we could have had more focus on Loki and how interesting it would have been to see the couple encounter more struggles.

In short: good but had potential to be more intense.

Really love this series!

I’m really loving this paranormal romance series! Each couple is unique and so much fun to read. If you like a ‘feel good” romance with some spice and a HEA(Happy Ever After) then I’d high recommend this book and/or series!

While they can be read as stand alone, I do feel they’re best enjoyed in order. This is book 3 and book 4 is coming this fall so I’m super excited for it! 💗

If you like Ruby Dixon or Miranda Martin, I’m sure you’ll love this series! The name “demon” in the series had me unsure at first, but they’re not evil just another species in another world/plane- so don’t let that stop you!

Get your copy today and enjoy! 💗🔥

It was ok-ish. Kennedy loves books but wants true love and family. She’s obsessed with a grumpier that she sold previously and is lucky enough to get her hands back on it. She finds a love spell in it and casts it.
Loki is a demonic Sombra demon who has longed for his mate, he’s like 400 or 500 years old, and when Kennedy casts the spell he finally gets his mate.

From there the story develops in Sombra, the demon world, and there’s details to learn about it, but the story was just ok, if not a bit dull. There are typos and sometimes it was bad enough I was confused. When the book ended I didn’t feel satisfied and won’t continue with others in this series.

Kennedy & Loki

Book 3 is about another monster-human couple, Kennedy and Loki. Loki has been waiting for so long for his mate and longs for her so much so that he turns to the shadows when he can’t cope anymore. Usually Sombra demons would turn to beasts when they do this BUT not Loki. Though he does have some side effects from that he overcomes them once he meets Kennedy.

Kennedy was betrayed by people she loved and doesn’t have anymore family. She longed for a family and a mate that loves her. Luckily she calls Loki to her side even though she doesn’t understand at first. Just that the spell book bought him to her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bonded to the Beast is an absolute must-read for fans of monstrous romances. Kennedy and Loki’s story is full of intense chemistry and raw passion. Loki, the beastly shadow demon, is possessive, protective, and completely devoted to Kennedy. The way their bond grows feels natural and irresistible, with plenty of heart-pounding moments as they navigate their new connection. The twist on the “beast” trope is exciting, and the world-building in this book deepens the allure of the Sombra demons. This book combines steam and emotion with a captivating plot, making it an unforgettable read!

A mate for Loki

This is book three of the Sombra Demons. Kennedy, the fierce human female, is a bookstore owner. Kennedy loves books. Somehow she sells the love spell book to Shannon and thinks nothing of it. Until Kennedy starts to dream about the book and a sexy demon. Kennedy decides she has to see Shannon. Loki did something that he regrets about his mate and a spell, now he is losing his self to the shadows. There is a risk that he will go mad unless his sweet mate shows up to claim him. Kennedy and Loki fit well together. There is a happy ending. Read On!

Great story line

Spoilers…
I loved the cave man forced mate’s perspective in this one. Usually the first two is a gradual build up but this one was full throttle.

The whole pregnancy announcement and fight was alittle over dramatic and didn’t really appeal to me as a great ending. However, I love that the story is continuing. These stories sometimes flip back and forth between the FMC’s.
I really hope to see the Duke and Shannon’s story some day.

Getting better and better!

A grumpy caveman type meets sassy bookish type, what could go wrong? How about an inability to communicate? Made for some fun charades and sensually charged looks. Kennedy and Loki's story is a bit different from the other Sombra demons in the sense that their story is set in Sombra. I really enjoyed learning more about this world and how the characters are all fitting together. Of course, add in some sexy scenes, and it's a wrap.

LOVE This Series 😁

I've truly fallen in Love with this series and all the fantastic characters 😄. Sometimes it's a bit long winded, but it's still an Awesome story 😊. This Sombra demon is different from the others and has gone through some difficult times, but he still reigns in his darkness for HIS mate 😉. Thanks again Sarah, I can't wait to read the next story, so please publish soon 🤓.
