Nolan Payne, wide receiver for the Camden Knights is equal parts impulsive and reckless, and utterly addictive.
He’s also my new roommate.
My orderly existence implodes when Nolan proposes…. a situation. Three nights a week we’re more than roommates. More than friends.
I should have said no. I should have considered that I already had feelings for him - even before the situationship. Well before he started behaving like he was more than a friend. Treating me in a way that went above and beyond the roommate benefit package we’d agreed to.
Now I’m in too deep, and I have no idea if Nolan can commit to something real, or if he’s exclusive with keeping it casual.
The Roommate Route is the second book in the Oleander Springs Series but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
The One-Night Scrimmage, A New Forbidden/Secret Sports Romance is Coming May 20th!
Mariah Dietz is a USA Today Bestselling Author and self-proclaimed nerd. She lives with her husband and sons in North Carolina.
Mariah grew up in a tiny town outside of Portland, Oregon where she spent most of her time immersed in the pages of books that she both read and created.
She has a love for all things that include her family, good coffee, books, traveling, and dark chocolate. She's also been known to laugh at her own jokes.
I adored this book. It was such an easy read I felt like I blinked and it was over.
Nolan and Hadley both had their relationship hang ups. And it turned out they had more in common on that front than either of them realised. But they couldn’t deny their attraction for one another, nor how easy it was for them to just 𝘣𝘦.
I know Nolan was the one to suggest being friends with benefits, and he (unconvincingly to the reader) came across as blasé and casual about it…but he so fell first. The best part was that he never even really tried to hide or deny his true feelings, and there was no long, drawn-out angst from that side of things.
One downside to this book? It made me hungry. Hadley was constantly cooking/baking/perfecting recipes. And they all sounded delicious. I would be the size of a house if I had a Hadley in my vicinity.
Wow The Roommate Route by Mariah Dietz hit me with all the pretty intense feels! I didn't expect this college sports romance to make me so emotional! Hadley and Nolan's journey was such a beautiful and heartfelt one. It had a sweet and aching slow burn with perfect mixture of swoony and sexy vibes. The author perfectly captured the adrenaline rush of a sports romance, the confusing messy feels of a college romance and the angst of best friend's brother romance.
Hadley has been the introvert but cool roommate to Katie and Hannah and then Katie's brother ..The superstar of their university football team, Nolan moves into their house as the dorm was too harsh. She has a crush on him but she is not sure if she can handle another relationship disaster while handling her difficult classes. Nolan likes her immediately but he is not a relationship guy. And Katie has warned both of them. But when they share a same house, it's hard to ignore the attraction.
I admit when I started the book I thought it will be some variation of a college sports romance where the shy nerd and the alpha jock fall in love with the added layer of the mild forbidden part of best friend's brother. But it was not so simple or plain. The way the author made Hadley and Nolan slowly come together was amazing. I didn’t care what is going to happen in next chapter because I was living in the moment with their swoony, dreamy and sometimes complicated journey and I never wanted to leave. I was like I am OK to stay in this beautiful moments. Nolan is a popular jock and he has a reputation that is not always true. He is kind and protective and witty and drop dead gorgeous with just the edge of alpha possessive hero. He is misunderstood a lot. He doesn't like to be told around and the football career is pressing hard on his heart. Hadley was his escape in a way. She may not be outgoing or outspoken but she has a fierce and sassy side combined with sweetness overall. She is loyal and dedicated and sharp and loving. She has her insecurities and past scars but she works hard to prove herself. It was kind of a rollercoaster. They went from just roommates to friends to friends with benefits to soulmate. Both the characters had immense growth. The side league of friends and teammates is another awesome part of this story. Their love and loyalty was amazing. The whole college experience with heartbreaks, dreams, doubts, messy mistakes and intense love came into play here. I felt this story was very real and relatable and I cannot have enough of them
There’s ALOT of information in this book. I only got 23% in, but I was skimming because it was just too much for me.
Adding to that, there were mistakes in the writing that were bothering me. I swear Katie is older than her brother, but then they say she’s his little sister. The dates were confused as well. 10 days after Nolan moves in, they make the plan to prank each other. Then later on one of the teammates says something about meeting Hadley yesterday. When they met on the day Nolan had moved in… then something is said about it’s been a week since they decided to play pranks. NONE OF THESE DATES MATCH UP! It’s confusing!
Then the first prank scene happens and it’s so awkward. Like it was too forced.
The lasagna making is a bit over the top as well. No one is sick of lasagna after two weeks of eating and smelling them? 🤨 I’d personally write off ever eating lasagna again if I had to smell or taste it for two whole weeks.
I’m throwing in the towel here because I just can’t see myself trying to read any more of the book or skimming it just to get through it.
2.5 ⭐️ I don’t know if it was just me but I did struggle to get into this story. The story itself just felt like it plateaued a bit. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t bad but I wouldn’t have been sad to miss it. It was more my ocd ways that couldn’t let me not finish it…but I just wasn’t all that invested. I don’t think it was any one particular thing but we just didn’t seem to mesh.
Look…. It does the job. But have i read more interesting and compelling sports romances? Yes.
The obstacles that MCs faced felt very 2D and drama for the sake of drama. The riff with Ethan was the only thing that i felt warranted that type of response from FMC.
Lots of exposition, not enough mystery. Everything was served to you on a silver platter; grovelling, smut, pining.
Oh yes the good old roommate trope, with forced proximity, and the added fun of the new roommate being the brother of your friend, seemed like quite the “predicament” Hadley found herself in when she met Nolan, a.k.a. Mr. Popular and player on Camden University’s football team. Hadley was goal oriented, focused on school, and trying her best towards one day joining her family’s business. Nolan was all about having fun, and doing whatever he wanted even if that meant occasionally not following the rules. Nolan and Hadley were somewhat opposites from each other, but when they began roommates, those two found themselves pulling pranks on each other, having fun, and along the way more than your “typical” roommate. Once again set in Oleander Springs, this college sports romance had more of that found family, lighthearted humor, likable characters, and more.
When I saw this book was going to be about Nolan, I had some thoughts. One, I wasn’t expecting Nolan to be the next one to have his own story, but surprisingly along the way, I found him to be interesting in how he didn’t like to follow the rules. Nolan was a bit of laidback but also knew how to have fun. I also thought Nolan’s romance was going to be with Mila since those two kind of had a flirtatious dynamic in the first book, but I’m actually glad they didn’t end up being an item. I liked Nolan better with Hadley as they were different from each other so it provided some interesting moments between the two. Initially, I wasn’t as excited to read about Nolan, but he wasn’t all that bad, like I said, he was a fun guy.
Hadley seemed like a nice, sweet girl. When it came to school, Hadley was focused and determined she was ready for her future working alongside her family’s company. Although, the biggest challenge in Hadley’s academic career so far was her biggest hurdle which was, public speaking. Public speaking was the bane of Hadley’s existence and in order to pass her class and be ready for her future role, she needed to overcome her fear of public speaking. I’ve taken public speaking classes and i could understand why Hadley felt the way that she did, but man was her teacher harsh. Public speaking isn’t always easy, but for Hadley she needed extra help so, who better to help her than her new roommate, Nolan.
Once the friends with benefits happened between Nolan and Hadley was when I saw their relationship grow even more. Nolan and Hadley already had a good friendship going when they became roommates, but with the added benefits included they became much more intimate and little by little wanting more of each other. I liked seeing Nolan and Hadley steal whatever moments they could to be alone, and it just showed how much those two couldn’t get enough! Aside from just the spice, I mainly liked seeing how Nolan and Hadley got closer and became more supportive of one another. For instance, seeing Nolan be there in person with his friends to support Hadley as she gave her speech in her public speaking class was a show of solidarity, and showing her that Nolan was going to be there for her no matter what which I thought was really sweet.
Slowly but surely, I have been enjoying the characters within this interconnected series! Oleander Springs sounds like a great place filled with likable characters, romance, and great friends. Once again, I loved the found family trope! You could see how much Nolan, Hadley, Katie, Hannah, Hudson, Evelyn, Mila, Grey, Corey, and Palmer were so close and had each other’s backs. I loved seeing when the friend group would all get together to hang out and create more fun memories together. I’ll admit, Nolan wasn’t someone whose story I wasn’t entirely excited about, but I did like how he and Hadley were in this story. As the story progressed, I found myself enjoying parts of it, and liked the friends with benefits/roommates tropes being played out. All in all, it was a good sports romance, focusing on Nolan’s focus in football to the sweet and spicy moments that Nolan had with Hadley. I still preferred Hudson and Evelyn’s story, but nonetheless this was a good story as well.
I absolutely LOVED The Roommate Route. Nolan and Hadley were pure perfection and their journey was so much fun. I couldn’t get enough of this delightful duo.
“I believe in you, Nolan, and I believe in us because you make me feel alive, and safe, and seen in a way that makes me want to hold on to what we have with both hands and never let go.”
Hadley was struggling a bit because she felt alone. One of her roommates who was also her best friend had cheated with her boyfriend and she was trying to reconcile those emotions while making new friends. She wasn’t prepared for the emotions Nolan made her feel when he moved into the house she was sharing with two other girls. He challenged her and made her feel alive while also calming her spirit.
“…it’s as though recognition snaps into place that this girl was put here for me to find. I know it in my bones—in my soul—because being around her makes me feel a sense of completeness and wholeness I’ve never known.”
Nolan was a bit of a rule breaker and was trying to break free of the boundaries imposed on him by his football coaches. He had a reputation as a player, but when he met Hadley, he recognized a kindred spirit. They started pranking one another and their friendship and attraction just grew from there. I loved watching him fall for Hadley and realize what he truly wanted in life.
“We passed casual the first damn time you said my name, and we fucking destroyed it the first time we slept together. That day you became mine and I became yours.”
The chemistry and banter between these two was electric. They had so much fun with each other and had a deep connection from the beginning. I loved watching their relationship grow and change and how they supported one another. They gave me all the feels.
“Sometimes it feels as though I’ve known you my whole life. I got that same feeling the first time I saw you. It was though I recognized you—like my soul realized it had been looking for you.”
Full of lighthearted moments as well as rich, genuine emotion, The Roommate Route was a delightful read that delivers on all fronts. I loved Nolan and Hadley’s hearts and how they grew throughout the story. I highly recommend their story and I cannot wait for this next book in this delightful series.
This was an alright read, I was looking for a sports romance and it scratched that itch. The side characters are really where this book excelled, some of the banter and camaraderie between the characters was the best part of the book. Unfortunately, I didn't really buy the MC's having this ever lasting romance. The H didn't seem as into the h as she was into him and that's a pet peeve of mine. He probably acted realistically for a 21 year old guy, but it didn't make for great romance. He was horribly susceptible to peer pressure and didn't ever seem to just stand up to his shitty friend who kept dragging him into bad situations. When he kissed the h for the first time at a party and then just let the h think he went home with another girl, I was pissed at both of them. Him, for letting Lenny just make him leave and trying to set him up with a girl he wasn't interested in, yet made no attempt to turn down and her, for being upset by it and yet not doing anything about it except making a jealous, insecure comment later on, to which he made some smooth remark and she's let it go way too quick. After what she went through with her ex, I'd think she'd just want to be as far away from his insouciant behavior as possible. I also feel like this was kinda ridiculous to call a FwB romance as they didn't even have sex until 60%, at that point it felt like the h was just picking up the scraps of whatever attention and affection H would give her. I hate when a relationship girl folds and becomes a fuck buddy because dude is scared of commitment. It's probably more of a personal trigger than anything, but I just can't buy that he's that into her after that or that he's suddenly going to want to be serious with her because they're fucking. Guys don't work that way. Especially not college play-boys who are scared of commitment or doing what anyone says. Finally, the 3rd act break-up was ridiculous and never really felt like it was resolved. She was ready to take him back way too quickly and I'm not at all convinced it won't happen again. I will say the sex that they did have was hot, I guess I just like my H's more obsessed and less ambivalent. I might read another of this author's books if I thought the H was going to be more possessive and interested.
"Why do we keep fighting this? Why are we still fighting this?"
I have fallen in love with sports romance books (college especially) and I read her Rules series which I fell in love with and those characters and the stories. I really didn't think she could top that series and then she brought us The Return Play and Hudson and Eveyln brought us this great slow burn friends to lovers and she weaved this story of Camden University and brought us a new group of guys.
She does it again with The Roommate Route! Nolan and Hadley are so much fun and this is definitely a slow burn romance. They start as roommates and then friends, friends with benefits, and then full-blown couple.
Nolan and Hadley both have incidents in their pasts that lead to issues with relationships and situations that they both have to work thru on their own and as well as together. The banter and pranks between them are fantastic and helps to build the story as well. You know they have chemistry when they first met and then to see it grow is fantastic.
Besides the main characters you get Hudson and Eveyln but then you have the football players, Palmer, Cory, Grey (can't wait for his story and feel like Mila is involved there) and Lenny. Then you have Hannah and Katie who come into play and you just love the dynamics between them all. She does a great job of building up the bromance with the guys but also how the girls develop as well.
You feel the connection to Hadley and Nolan and you root for them and you get invested into them and their relationship. I can't wait to see where the rest of the stories take us and still hopefully get to connect with these characters again.
*The Roomate Route is book 2 in the Oleander Springs series and is an interconnected standalone. While not necessary to read The Return Play (book 1) first, some characters/history may make more sense*
When Nolan is feeling the pressure of football before the draft, all he wants is a peaceful neighbor in the dorms. When he finds a loophole allowing him to move off campus with his little sister, he convinces Katie to let him move in as long as he follows the "no dating her roommates" rule which is going well until he gets to know Hadley. They quickly go from helping each other with class to friendly pranks to friends with benefits as a way to take their minds of things but can they make sure they don't hurt Katie or each other in the process of falling for each other?
From the surface, Nolan would seem like the happy go lucky prankster, but as you learn more of his story, he's going through things just like everyone else. While he's happy to help Hadley with her current issues, he's not sharing the bad along with the good with her. At one point, I wanted to throttle him, but to he fair, he really is only used to psycho exes and casual relationships. With the help of his sister and their friend group, Hadley and Nolan take some space and then time to communicate. Vice versa, Hadley gets really get stuck in her head, so it was great that Nolan was there to help her have fun. I love this friend group and can't wait for the next book!
Tropes: ✔️ College Football Romance ✔️ Friends With Benefits ✔️ Sister's Best Friend ✔️ Roomates to Lovers ✔️ Found Family ✔️ Forced Proximity
Being a football player at Camden University, Nolan’s life consists of classes, working out, football practice and little else. He loves hanging out with his close, core group of friends from the team, and personal relationships are something he does not have time for and does not do. Because of this, Nolan is known as somewhat of a Player.
A downside to being on the football team is living in the dorms. Nolan is constantly being kept up at night & desperately wants to live off-campus. He gets his wish when another player points out that he can live with a family member, as long as the place meets certain requirements. Nolan jumps at the opportunity & gets his sister, Katie, & her two roommates, Hannah & Hadley, to agree to let him live in the basement of their house. He has to swear to Katie that he’ll leave her roommates alone (i.e., NO flirting).
After accidentally finding out that Hadley likes pulling pranks on her brother-in-law, Nolan proposes a “Prank War” with Hadley. (Some of the pranks that Nolan pulls are hilarious!) This is just one of the many things that starts bringing Nolan & Hadley closer together, but maneuvering around Katie and Nolan swearing to just keep things “casual” start getting more & more difficult.
I absolutely loved this book. Nolan & Hadley had great chemistry, and I loved all the secondary characters that are all back from the first book in the “Oleander Springs” series. This is a “ must-read” recommendation from me!!
The Roommate Route is book 2 of the Oleander Springs Series.
It's written in dual POV following Nolan, who is Hudsons football teammate from book 1, and Hadley, who is Nolans sisters Roommate and becomes his roommate as well.
Nolan wants out of the dorms however because of restrictions from the football coach he can only live with a family member off campus. He asks his sister Katie to move in, which she is hesitant about it. She makes a rule that he can't go after her two roommates.
Hadley and Nolan hit it off right away finding out both enjoy pranks. A friendship forms and then progresses from there to a friend's with Benefits scenario.
I loved Nolans character while reading this book. From the beginning he was drawn to Hadley and the little things he did were very overprotective of her despite him saying he didn't do relationships. He was able to bring Hadley out of her shell and they both were able to recover from being in previous relationships where they were cheated on. Nolan of course isn't perfect and made dumb mistake one night but he fought to win her back.
The book was well written and gave me so many different emotions while reading it. There were fun playful times, serious times, sexy times, sad times, and angry. I read this book first of the series not knowing it was book two and then reread it again after I read book 1. I like that I can get lost in the book and that I'm able to visualize what's going on. I would recommend if you like a football sports romance
I always love a good college romance when the storyline is effortless when the couple connects flawlessly, and the chemistry although hot, does not take anything away from a brilliant story unfolding once again Mariah Dietz has done all of this with what seems like ease. I laughed at their banter, I sighed when Nolan showed his swoon colours, and I finished the story fully satisfied.
Star football player Nolan has had enough of living in the dorms, so when he gets the opportunity to move into his sister's basement, he thinks he has scored gold, it doesn't hurt that one of his sister's flatmates Hadley makes him feel things he hasn't felt before, she is firmly of limits, but when the pranks start, and the pair spend more time together it becomes even harder to remain in the friend's zone when Nolan comes up with an idea that could suit both of them, a friends with benefits sort of arrangement it should be easy not to cross any lines, but as Hadley gets more under Nolan's skin the more difficult it becomes, and knowing Nolan he is going to mess up on more than one occasion, I adored Hadley, and I was moved by her struggle with public speaking and applauded MS Dietz with the way she wove this into The Roommate Route, giving this book even more depth, the way Hadley's friends and Nolan's football friends helped her out in one class was spectacular.
I honestly don't know how Mariah Dietz does this. With every one of these stories in the Oleander Springs series, I fall in love with the MCs, and they become my favourite couple. Then I reread one of the other books, and that couple is back to being my favourite.
Hadley and Nolan, I just love them. I see how they ground each other, excit each other, bring a playfulness that isn't reckless but isn't stiffled.
My heart sank near the end when I worried that maybe Nolan had crossed a line but was so thankful his mistake never went that far.
But one of the things I love about Hadley and Nolan's story is the build-up of friends. How Hadley finds her people. How she goes from being fairly recluse to having people who she can depend on and who can depend on her. How Nolan gets reminded he has friends who will fight for him, how he has support from all corners.
I need more of these two. I need a mini story of what happens next for them. I do feel like I NEED that with these two. I need them in 10/30 years to be together, that it works our for them because I feel their souls are so deeply connected to each other. Reminds me of me and my own husband. How we said casual, but almost 23 years later, we both know it never was between us. We take each others good days, mediocre days, and the bad and sad days. And although I can not cook to save my life and my husbands to English to play American football (and he isn't a prankster ad such), I see us in Hadley and Nolan.
The Roommate Route by Mariah Dietz is about Nolan Payne, a wide receiver for the Camden Knights story about how he became roommates with his sister Kate and her other two roommates, Hadley Foster and Hannah Owens. Hadley Foster first shared this house with three other girls, Kate Payne, Hannah Owens, and April Carver. April and Hadley were as close as two sisters could be until April slept with Hadley's boyfriend, Ezra. Ezra finished school, and April is doing a semester abroad in Scotland. Hadley never mentions her falling out with April with Kate or Hannah; as far as they know, April will be back and living with them.
Nolan has been trying to escape living in the dorms where he has the most horrible roommate ever. His teammate Palmer comes across an exception to the rule about players having to live in the dorms, living with a relative within a short range of campus, making it possible for Nolan to live with his younger sister Kate; he needs to convince her of the idea of living together. Nolan's teammates Zack Palmer, Hudson McKinley, Greyson Meyers, Corey Bishop, and Lenny Russo help him move in and have his back when he needs their help.
The Roommate Route is the second book in the Oleander Springs Series and can be read as a complete stand-alone.
If you are a fan of new adult and sports romance this book is A MUST READ!!! It is also a prove that why Mariah Dietz has been one of my favorite authors. I've read a lot of best friend's brother romance by this point but she can create a story that is one of the most popular tropes in romance world and still holds my attention through the end which I find it a hard chance to happen nowaday.
The story has an angsty feeling combined with a heartfelt and heartwarming feeling. I've never thought I would swoon over Nolan but with all sweet things he does for Hadley... SWOON!!! Hadley and Nolan have strong chemistry and what starts with being friends and then friend with benefits turns out to be so much more. I adore their relationship and their encounters are super hot. They are also opposites attraction. She is younger than him but she has had a plan for her life already but she has to face her own weakness first while Nolan is still not sure about his future and at some point, it's going to cause their relationship problem. Nolan's action makes me want to smack his head so hard. So yeah, I like Hadley. And Mariah Dietz successfully makes me cry for her and then makes me feel so proud of her when she acts so reasonable and mature with Nolan. I enjoy reading this book and would recommend it to everyone for sure.
This is the second book in this series but can be read as a stand alone.
I really like Nolan and Hadley. This book is definitely a slow burn book. Even though the attraction is there from the start, these two start as friends and progress to friends with benefits to more.
Hadley had been burned before with her best friend getting caught with her boyfriend. She’s not one to trust easily and wonders why someone like Nolan, the popular jock, would ever like someone like herself, the quiet, shy nerd. I mean the only reason has to be because his sister - her roommate told Nolan she was off limits - Right?
Nolan doesn’t know what it is but there is something about Hadley that he just can’t deny. He’s sworn off dating since his only long term girlfriend cheated on him because he didn’t take their relationship seriously (her words). So when sparks fly between him and Hadley he denies it, until he can’t any longer.
These two together were magnetic. The banter between these two made me smile and giggle and swoon most of the time. They both have been hurt and so that makes for some rough roads. I loved seeing Hadley bloom with her friendships with her roommates Katie and Hannah.
This was a great book and if you love New Adult / college Romances this is the book for you. Can’t wait for more books in this series!
I loved this book! This book was so much more than just a forbidden romance. It was about learning about yourself and making changes to really get what you want out of life, especially in personal relationships.
I absolutely fell in love with both Nolan and Hadley! There was so much more to Nolan than what he showed the world and what those outside his circle gave him credit for. He made some dumb choices, but honestly, it was near impossible to not live him! I adored how he was with Hadley (99.99% of the time.) The friendships he had with his teammates was something to both respect and envy. They were the true definition of family. I was both hurt for Hadley and sad. Sad that she felt she needed to hide her hurt from her roommates. I did appreciate that through that pain of losing a friend, she was able to see what other friendships she was missing out on and worked on bridging the gap between her and her roommates. The chemistry between Hadley and Nolan was fire!!! I couldn’t get enough of them together. There were quite a few scenes and exchanges between them that gave me the feels!!
I was the lucky winner of an ARC giveaway hosted by the author. I am volunteering leaving an honest review.
I don’t actually know where to start with this review. This book was truly one of the best books I’ve read this year and I’ve read over 150 of them so far!! Nolan and Hadley were some of the best characters I’ve read in awhile. Their “friendship” “relationship” “romance”, whatever you want to call it, was sweet, steamy, mature, and genuine. They both had their own personal issues that they had to deal with but I loved how they handled them! It was so refreshing to read a couple that actually communicated, for the most part, and to read a female character that stood up for herself and didn’t just take what she was given because he was the hotshot, popular football player. I think my most favorite part of this entire book was the crazy slow burn and how it made it that much better when Hadley and Nolan FINALLY “got together”, if you know what I mean…and when they were “together”, HOLY MOLY!!! SO STEAMY GOOD!!!!!! I think my reading device almost caught fire with how hot those two were!!! I tried my hardest to take my time reading this book because I just didn’t want it to end but I also COULD NOT GET ENOUGH of these characters!!! I was so very sad to see them go…
I haven't read a book by this author that I haven't loved and this one is no different. Nolan and Hadley are so cute together! This is the second book in this series and I really am enjoying it. The characters are all so realistic and the banter between them makes me feel like I'm right there with them. Some of the pranks had me laughing-out-loud. Then there's the steam factor ... HOT! A great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next book.
Hadley goes to Camden University and when one of her roommate's brother moves in the basement of their house, Hadley has an instant crush on him. Nolan plays football for the University and they are expected to live in the dorms, but he had to get out of there before his neighbour made him crazy. He finds a loophole and begs his sister to let him move in with her. She agrees ... with lots of rules and the #1 rule is: do not hit on her roommates. Nolan was never good at following the rules. Nolan sees the mischief in Hadley's eyes and they start a prank war that turns into more!
I received a copy courtesy of the author in exchange for a honest review.
This is book number 2 of the Oleander Springs series and focuses on Nolan and Hadley. Nolan is a wide receiver for the Camden Knights and is in desperate need to get out of the dorms. When his friend lets him know about a loophole that allows him to move out of the dorms if he is living with a relative close to the campus. His younger sister Katie lives close to campus with 2 roommates, one of which is Hadley, so he is able to move in with them since their previous roommate left to study abroad. There was instant chemistry between Nolan and Hadley but their relationship definitely did not take off right off the bat. I absolutely loved how their relationship developed and how natural it felt. The pranks were on point as well! I was absolutely hooked from the first sentence and it held my attention all the way through to the end. I love that the common theme between book 1 and 2 is the loyalty between friends and how they have a makeshift family between those friends. This was an excellent story and an excellent addition to the series! I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a beautiful story! I just want to jump through the pages and become friends with these guys and gals. They have such a great vibe! The strength, the bond, the encouragement!
Hadley and Nolan are fantastic. They meet when Nolan moves into the basement of the house Hadley is sharing with his sister. She is instantly attracted to him but with her past history and the fact that she thinks her roommate has a thing for Nolan he become off-limits. Until she realizes he isn't. Until he starts a prank war with her, starts spending more time with her, and kisses her. I love that they were friends first. I love that Nolan helped bring out a side of Hadley that she had been suppressing. I love that there was no conflict. That the only real issue was something that could easily happen. And I love how they worked through it. Another thing I loved? Watching the ladies bond. They grew their friendships.
I'm loving Oleander Springs, Camden, and this group of crazy gals and guys. I'm looking forward to the next couple falling.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
All the stars!! All the emotions!! The Roommate Route was the second book in Mariah’s Oleander Springs series. It can be read as a stand-alone if you need to, but I suggest reading the first one!! It was full of chemistry, laughs, and all the feels!
Hadley found herself in a “deal” with her new roommate. Something about him made her agree to his “more than friends” arrangement even though she knew it might end in a disaster. Nolan was her complete opposite but the more time she spent with him, the more she craved him. But would he ever feel the same?
I did not want this book to end. I don’t want this series to end!! I have completely fallen in love with Oleander Springs and don’t want to leave! Nolan and Hadley had such an amazing relationship and even though it may have been a little rough towards the end, they made it through!! Their relationship felt so genuine and refreshing! I loved all of their pranks sprinkled in and her cooking!! I need all her recipes! Gah! I can’t wait to see more of them and all the others.

Nolan has been trying to get out of living in the dorms with the history of the worst roommate ever. His teammate Palmer comes across an exception to the rule about players having to live in the dorms, living with a relative within a short range of campus, making it possible for Nolan to live with his younger sister Kate; he needs to convince her of the idea of living together. He and Hadley had undeniable, off the chart chemistry from the beginning.
Nolan Payne is one of the football players at Camden University, but he’s having problems with his dorm neighbor and decides to ask his sister, Katie, to let him live with her and her housemates. She agrees, but he needs to stay in line and not flirt with her friends. Hadley is one of Katie's housemates, and is more concerned with her classes than flirting with anyone. But she can't deny how attractive Nolan is. And when Nolan discovers by chance that Hadley likes to prank her brother-in-law, he proposes a “Prank War” to her. From there, things get really funny between them. But they also find some feelings brewing, and when Nolan proposes that Hadley spend three days a week in his bed, things get really hot! After a while they finally assume the relationship, but when the future of Nolan and his friends on the team is threatened, he takes some actions that are not well seen by Hadley and that hurt her deeply. Will Nolan be able to face his fears to finally be with Hadley? I loved the story and the characters. I highly recommend the reading.
