The King of Man, Sebastian Hartwaker has been plagued by sinister visions, visions of an evil darkness threatening to consume the peaceful realm of Maglore.
His people ignored his warnings and he realised that if the realm was to be saved then the burden rested upon his shoulders.
King Sebastian set out on a quest with the difficult task of bringing together the other great houses and making them believe his words. He must persuade Giants, Fairies, Dwarves and The Mystic Circle to join together and stand against this coming darkness.
Will he succeed? or will the peaceful realm succumb to the darkness?

Hartwaker: The End of Kings by Daniel J. Barnes is an excellent fantasy adventure. We start off on a journey with King Sebastian Hartwaker as he attempts to unify the realm against impending evil. That evil quickly invades the story and makes it a fast paced, no holds barred story. DJB is an amazingly descriptive writer whose characters and world are vibrantly presented. The fighting in this book deserves a special shout out because it is rare that a book can make my face grimace from great descriptiveness (and I love when someone pulls it off) but this one managed a few times. This story is rich with history and lore, I love the past, present, future looks we get in the realm and characters. It makes me anxious for the next book in the series!
The audiobook is now available and it’s incredible!!
What an absolute masterpiece. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It has everything that a fantasy novel needs, amazing characters, weird and wonderful creatures and a villain so bad even satan would quiver. Bye bye game of thrones, hartwakers in town!!
I’ll be honest when I started the book I didn’t seem to get into it at first but I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me because by the time I was half way I was deep in. I’m not a fast reader but I made sure I read this book every day. A few moments caught me by suprise and now I cannot wait to read the next instalment to see where it goes. Once again another top class story by Dan.
An epic tale set in a mystical realm, you will follow Sebastian Hartwaker on his journey to try and prevent a great darkness. I love the in-depth descriptions of the world, the wide range of characters and fast paced fight scenes. The story takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and sets up a great world for more tales! Can’t wait for more!
Really enjoyed reading this the first in the Hartwaker series it is well written and takes the reader on the same journey as the characters I found it hard to put down as was so enjoying the story. I look forward to more in this series.
