About the author

Bertrand Arthur William Russell, 3rd Earl Russell, OM, FRS, was a Welsh philosopher, historian, logician, mathematician, advocate for social reform, pacifist, and prominent rationalist. Although he was usually regarded as English, as he spent the majority of his life in England, he was born in Wales, where he also died.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 "in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought."

An excellent analysis regarding the relations among language, truth, and knowledge. A must read for fans of Russell or those interested in analytic philosophy in general.

من البداية كدا: الكتاب ده لا يقرأه غير المتخصصين في مجال اللغويات، لأنه بحث في اللغة اكتر منه بحث في أي فرع فلسفي آخر.
عموماً الكتاب بسيط جداً من البداية و بيحاول هنا رسل انه يُقيم بناء ميتافيزيقي كامل علي اللغة الأوليّة، اللغة التي لا تحتاج إلي تعريفات. لكن قبل كل ده بيحاول يعرّف المقدمات و يعرّف الجملة و يعرّف مفاهيم عديدة و من أشهرها الصدق و اليقين و السلوك الشرطي الموجود في غالبية الكائنات، وليس الإنسان فقط. و بعد كدا بيحاول يعرّف ماهية أو دور فلسفة العلم في محاولة ترتيب كل أفكارنا و معتقداتنا المنطقية بدايةً من تلك الأمور البسيطة جداً لدرجة أننا نسلّم بها عند التفكير فيها حتّي المفاهيم المعقدة التي تحتل أعلي الترتيب الهرمي للأفكار، و تكون الأداة المستخدمة هنا هي التحليل، و بجانبها اللغة الأوليّة التي تكون تجريدية جداً بحيث لا تحتاج إلي مقدمات لتعريفها، ولا تحتوي هذه اللغة علي مصطلحات مثل "زائف" أو "صادق" أو "كل" و "بعض" و تشير هذه اللغة -التي هي لغة شئ- إلي معني محسوساً في العالم الواقعي.
و بعد كدا بيقسّم الكلمة و بيعرّفها، و بيقسّم العناصر السيكولوجية لنطق الجملة.
يعني في النهاية دا بحث في فلسفة اللغة، مذهب قائم علي اللغة الذريّة، المفردات و الجمل التي لا تحتاج إلي تعريفات ولا يوجد فيها أي مصطلحات منطقية و بتحاول توصف العالم بطريقة لا يوجد بسيطة جداً، لغة علميّة أو رمزية لا يختلف عليها الكثير من الأشخاص أثناء الإشارة إلي أشياء العالم الخارجي.

Not exactly light summertime reading or one of Russell's best. The book was based on the Henry James lectures at Harvard in 1940 and it reads like a transcription of the lectures. The book is filled with gems of wit and glimmers of great intellect, but it is very dense in spots. Several passages read as if there was a transcription error. Other places it reads like he is writing symbols on a chalkboard, but the examples he is putting up are not there.

It is worth reading if you are interested in inductive reasoning and the foundations of the scientific method. The difference between evidence, facts, data, and truth is important to understand. Russell ends the book on an optimistic note about the power of reasoning and the scientific method. I found Wittgenstein's /Tractatus Logico-philosophicus/ and /On Certainty/ to be much more concise treatments of the same subject. A more entertaining and current work on the subject of truth and evidence based thinking is Harry Frankfurt's /Bullshit/.

الكتاب يصنف ضمن خانة و رف علم اللغة ، و يصلح ان يضاف كذلك ضمن ادراج كتب الفلسفة . مضمون الكتاب ليس لهواة القرّاء او محبين المطالعة ، اذ مضمونة ثقيل و كتب للمختصين في علوم اللغة .

عند تقييمي للكتب أعطيته النجوم الثلاث و أنا على علم و يقين ان المختصين في فنون الخطابة و علوم الكلام و فلسفة اللغات يقيمون الكتاب بخمس نجوم على اقل تقدير .

الفائدة التي استقيتها من وراء هذا الكتاب الفلسفي في علم اللغة هي معرفة أهمية استعمال الكلمة و الجملة في موضعها ، و ستراتيجية تقديم الفاعل أو المفعول به ، وأدوات التوكيد و النفي على الجمل الاسمية و الفعلية .

قراءة الكتاب لغير المختصين تزيد من خصوبة المعرفة اللغوية و تنمي القابلية على التشديد لمعنى المراد .

راسل در "پژوهشی در معناداری و صدق" به بررسی و تحلیل کامل معرفت شناسی میپردازه. راسل معتقده که شناخت باید در چهارچوب صدق تعریف بشه نه برعکس. نظریه های دیگه ای که توسط سایر فلاسفه تحلیلی، پوزیتیویست های منطقی و پراگماتیست ها ارائه شده هم در طول کتاب نقد و بررسی میشن. دنبال کردن بعضی بحث های فنی کتاب ممکنه دشوار باشه ولی مسلما ارزش صرف وقت رو برای رسیدن به نتیجه ای که راسل در مقدمه ی کتاب عنوان میکنه داره : ((جایگزینی تردید شفاف به جای یقین گنگ))

دائمًا ما اقول أن الفلسفة تعتمد على الجمل التفصيلية، والكلمات العميقة تختصر التفصيل لذا تفرّع راسل إلى الميتافيزيقيات وعلم النفس والسلوك ورغم انه يخالف المذهب السلوكي الذي يقول ان علم النفس = علم السلوك الا اني اخالفه إذ الغالبية تغلب على القلّة
أيضًا اخالفه على اعتراضه " ان المعرفة لا يمكن التعبير عنها بكلمات "
اي انه يقول ان المتصوفة ناقضوا قولهم هذا بعد تحديد نوع المعرفة، لكن هل هم حددوها وقاموا بتجزيئها ؟ وهنا تبرير اعتراضي

لدي نسخة من ترجمة الأخ الفاضل محمد عمارة من دار النشر: صفحة ٧. وللأسف الترجمة سيئة جداً. الترجمة حرفية ولا تصح لكتب الفلسفة حيث ان للكلمات معان لا تحتمل الترجمة الحرفية لها. لن استطيع انهاء الكتاب للأسف وانصح من يريد قراءته أن يبحث عن ترجمة افضل منها.

There are a few things that I had in mind before I started on this insightful book, the most important reason was its sequential relation to "An Outline of Philosophy"; this book comes as, mainly, an extension of previously written Outline which suggests a philosophical and psychological nature of human understanding. In this book, Russell concerns himself with a foreword of his later to be developed analysis of logical atomism. There are many "crispy" chapters in this work, such as Chapter 4, 12, 15, 18 e.t.c.; these discussions regarding language and its components are rigorously worked out, but the whole book in regular succession is a work of a clear-minded philosopher. I recommend this book to all those who take interest in philosophy and psychology of human language.

Although I enjoyed the ideas in this book, it exceeded my knowledge and understanding at times. The book is written very clearly, but the ideas are complex, and there is quite a lot of terminology to grasp. It's for this reason that I've given it a lower rating. Though this rating is more of a blight on my own intellect than the quality of writing. I'm still glad I read it, and I now have a lot of interesting things to think about as a result.

أظن أن هذا الكتاب من أهم كتب برتراند راسل، لأنه يُؤسّس فيه لفلسفته التحليلية، أو ما يُعرف بـ”مذهب الذرية المنطقية”، ذلك المذهب الذي نسف به راسل مذهب “ال��ثرة” أو “المعقّدة”، والتي يرى أنها مجرد أوهام منطقية.
بعبارة أخرى، رمى الفلسفة المثالية التي كان يؤمن بها سابقًا في عرض الحائط. في هذا الكتاب، جمع راسل الشتات الذي كان مبعثرًا في كتبه السابقة مثل ��صول الرياضيات، ومشكلات الفلسفة، ومذهب المنطقية الذرية.

يحاول الكتاب أن يُجيب على سؤال مهم جدًا:
إلى أي مدى تعكس اللغة التي نتحدث بها الواقع الحقيقي؟

للاسف الترجمة (محمد عمارة) ركيكة جداً وحرفية بطريقة مزعجة، بعض الكلمات استخدمت ترجمات غير مناسبة لمعنى الجملة، مثل استخدام كلمة (كوني) والغالب انه يعني universal والتي في الجملة كان يفترض ان تعني (عام/موحد).
لا استطيع الحكم على الكتاب من هذه النسخة لكن بدا لي ان افكاره بسيطة لمن يرغب بأي افكار فلسفية عن اللغة، كانت اكثر منها تحليلاً مفصلاً للكلمة والجملة و الصدق والزيف… ومعانيها، والتي هي واضحة بالفعل لغير المهتمين بالتحليل الدقيق لها.
لا أظن انه افضل كتب رسل.

This is an excellent introduction to the basic values of doing analytical philosophy. As more of a continental philosopher myself, I don't find the content as interesting but it is certainly invaluable knowledge when philosophising in general.
