Two sisters Maliyah and Saadiyah were raised by the same mother yet had very different views on life and love. Saadiyah was a hopeless romantic and wore her heart on her sleeve. She wanted the husband, kids, dog and white picket fence. Her only problem was that she had a man that gave her heartache, cheating and baby mamas popping out of the bushes like ghosts on Halloween. I often find the concept of writing a weak minded woman in a relationship yet strong and powerful in every other aspect of her life very strange. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Then when the new man that’s worthy comes along now all of a sudden you give him a hard time because you know your worth 🤔. Maliyah was more like her mother. She refused to fall in love and was emotionally unavailable. She kept her heart close to her chest (no pun intended lol) because she felt that it was the only way to keep from ending up like her sister, being in love with a man that wasn’t worth a d*mn. These two sisters definitely had their fair share of embarrassment and heartbreak. While I had no sympathy for Saadiyah’s 30 year old self, Maliyah tugged at my heart strings 🥺. I’m glad these sisters made it out stronger and didn’t allow their circumstances to define their outcome. I would’ve loved to see the author spend more time on the development of their relationships once they found their forever men. Most of the book was spent on the pain and then the end wrapped up hella quick. I mean the author RUSHED through the ending. We knew so little about everyone. While we got slightly more character development on Maliyah and Saadiyah, we knew very little about Jay and Lou. Who were these men that these sisters so effortlessly submitted to. Also Moo was such an integral part of Saadiyah’s story yet he fell off the pages with no real closure to their situation. I would’ve liked to see that reflected on the pages. Overall it was a decent read.
I loved this unconventional love story. Saadiyah deserved to have a wonderful man like Jay in her life. Her ex was not the best choice. And her sister Maliyah certainly needed a lovely person like Lou to fill the void in her life. I enjoyed both sisters story.
Whew… my first Nako read and baby, I wasn’t ready. From page one I was side-eyeing Saadi like girl, why are you letting this man drag you through the mud when he got baby mamas multiplying like rabbits? But as the chapters unfolded, I started to see the layers- two sisters, two different survival tactics, and a whole lot of pain they were carrying around like luggage.
Maliyah’s story hit me the hardest. That woman was broken in silence, grieving her child’s father, shutting herself off from the world because it was safer to feel nothing than risk more loss. And yet, watching her open up again…finding someone who reminded her she was still worthy of joy- was beautiful. Saadi’s arc, on the other hand, had me yelling at the book. How can you be so powerful in every other area of life but stay chained to a man who can’t even spell “loyalty”? Still, her spiritual growth and the moment she realized self-love is non-negotiable gave her character redemption.
Now, let’s be real. I wanted more. More about the new men, more about Moo’s messy exit, more about those loose ends that felt brushed under the rug. The ending flew by like we were on fast-forward, and I was left asking, “Wait! So when did all this magically come together?” That’s the only thing stopping me from dropping 5 stars.
Overall, this novella had me hooked, frustrated, laughing, and emotional all at once. The sisters’ journeys were messy, real, and painfully relatable. Title fits perfectly, because I closed the book still sitting with all kinds of feelings. Nako definitely got my attention.
Very good read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Sometimes we get so caught up in being in a relationship and making sure all is perfect despite what is really going. And Saadiyah was the prime example here. She was so focused on her no good man that she neglected herself and what she deserves. Jay coming into her life was a godsend and the man she needed to see this is who she deserves. It took some time, but Maliyah was finally seeing brighter days. Lou is a mystery, but I liked that he understood Maliyah's pain and was willing to help her get through it. Happy the Maliyah and Saadiyah got their happy ending.
[E] The only thing that’s stopping me from giving this book a 5 star is when Saadiyah gained a Fiancé, a house & a brand new car by the second date. 🙃 I know it’s a novella, so things have to go quick but I would have respected that scene a bit more if Atleast a month went by for something like that to happen.

Flew through this book! Two sisters, totally different. Two men, totally different but didn’t play about these sisters. Two men loving on them as they should. This escalated so fast but they prayed for each other.
Get rid of that dead weight and watch how God bless you!!! That's the message I received from this, and that's what I'm doing before the New Year arrive. Both Saadi and Maliyah had dead weight they had to get rid of. Saadi's dead weight was a man, and Maliyah's was guilt. When they finally decided to let go and heal..God moved in a major way! At first, I wanted her to tell Moo to go straight to h*ll. I wanted her to tell that man off so bad and to let him know that she found someone else, but then I realized for what? He didn't deserve an explanation. I hope she ghosted him lol This book gets 5 stars from me. Talk about therapy in a book! The gems that were dropped in this book is going to Jumpstart my new year. Thanks NAKO for continously blessing us with your gift 💗
This book was good (although Saadi was pissing me off in the beginning), until it got to the proposal. These characters know absolutely NOTHING about each other not even the fact she was still in a relationship at the time he proposed. A busted relationship but I would think that is something you tell someone your getting to know. They went out ONE time and on the second date he proposed. I was done after that. We don’t even know much about the two characters let alone them. We don’t have any details on Jay not even his real name and neither did Saadi. But she was too thirsty to say yes to marrying a man she don’t even know his first name? Yea no I won’t be finishing this!!!
Great story line, but I needed more. The story wrapped up very fast. How did she dump Moo? What happened with the cousin who betrayed her? How did Jay did out his info? How did Lou come about? I’ll stay tuned for part 2.
Over all it was a good short story. There was Saadi who was in a long term relationship & her man treated her like dirt. You name it, he did it. She craved love & attention, he couldn’t/ wouldn’t give it to her. Then it was her sister Maliyah who was a single mom grieving her child’s father & drowning in depression. Maliyah was rough around the edges & didn’t want love. They both heal & move on. The end.
I’m not a fan of street lit, but I gave this a chance because of the good reviews. At first I could see why people enjoyed this book even if it wasn’t my cup of tea. There was some potential for a good story. I wanted to see how Saadiyah was going to finally break free from Moo. When it happened, that part was glossed over. One minute she was with him and the next minute she was engaged to a new man. A man that she reported to at work, but never met yet he planned an elaborate birthday celebration for her. C’mon now. Her sister’s love story was equally nonsensical. This was one of the most unromantic romance books that I’ve ever read.
Another masterpiece by Nako. This is a short read but a powerful one.
This book takes you on the journey of two sisters, living very different lives but end up going through trauma in some of the worse ways. I nearly cried over Milly and was almost bought to tears again when he encouraged Maliyah to be open and move on.
I always feel like I’m getting the Word when reading Nako’s books. She’s certainly talented and blessed. Sis can preach.
This book reminds us that God can move in mysterious ways. We all go through trials and tribulations but if we keep the faith, HE will bring us through.
My first Nako story and I don’t think I was ready. I was ready to mad at the FMC after the first chapter, but she started to regain herself after years in a relationship where her man had 5 kids on her. Like girl get tf up. Maliyah and Milly’s story was heartbreaking. I can understand why Maliyah took the stand of not wanting be with anyone else after such a large loss. I am glad that she met someone who could understand her grief and remind her that it is okay to love again. Saadi finding love after building her relationship with god and wanting to love herself shows the importance of loving yourself more. Always love yourself more than you love a man. Good intro to Nako’s writing.
Saadi was just too sweet. That boyfriend wasn't worth nothing. Running around with every female & impregnating them too! The only good thing about that was telling her not to have any kids. To me that was a life saver for her, she might've never left him. Then Maliyah was the total opposite. Wouldn't open her heart & tragedy struck. I'm glad things turned out the way they did in the end. Good story!
I guess this was a fairytale? Who wouldn't want a rich man to drop into her life and propose marriage? It's enough that he's romantic and rich. You don't need to know much about him, just that he wants you. A fairytale is the only place this happens especially with two sisters finding 'love' the same way. The only part of this story that felt real is the guilt, remorse and grief Mali suffered through.
Saadiyah worked my nerves bc dealing w/ foolishness in your 30s is crazy. I’m happy she found her confidence and knew her worth. The engagement happened quick but he’s did say he was watching her for months. Happy for them both.
Maliyah is the sister we all need. I’m happy Lou came around to soften her heart a little ( she still giving that man hell 😂). I hate what happened Milly, he seemed so genuine.
This book was an easy read, but I feel like it was just rushed towards the end and I would have loved to see it fleshed out a bit more. It’s a good story about healing and leaving the past behind for good/new things but I just wanted more. Because it felt rushed it felt unrealistic and the characters could’ve been developed more.
I absolutely loved it. When I was reading it an Vella I was geeking for the next episode, it was worth the wait!!! I couldn't understand how she staid with Moo after 5 kids, not I, but all in all she got her wish. Loved it.
This novella is in a class by itself. All I can say is WOW!! This book is uplifting & helps a woman to know her worth. Love yourself knowing that you deserve happiness and nothing less.
This author is one of my best. I loved this book and appreciated the growth of each character. I liked Millie and didn't like what happened to him but it was needed. I definitely recommend this book. Wonderful story.
This book was relatable as we all may have been Saadiyah or Maliyah at some point in our lives. Even though the story was short, there was still some gems that were dropped like only Nako can. I was glad that both sisters got their happily ever after.
I LOVED 🥰 this story 👌🏾 sometimes we go through hell but don’t realize that we sometimes have to go through something to appreciate what God has in store for us. Peace ✌🏾 and blessings to all 💙✌🏾👍🏽
Loved this book. From the beginning I was hooked. It was the right amount of drama and love story. Kind of wish there was a scene of her actually kicking Moo to the curb. Overall great book.
This book is a great representation of life getting better if you just hold on. When things seem so grim and hopeless, there's a light on the other side of your prayers.
This was another great read from Nako. True love does exist. I always seem to forget how great of a write Nako is. So very well detailed and reading her books is like watching a movie you don’t want to end.
This is the perfect title for this story because after reading this that’s exactly how I felt . Different emotions will be pulled & what happened with Moo. The book seem unfinished. Like I got questions that need answers.
