Sarah Chamberlain enjoys a new life far away from her abusive ex-husband, thanks to help from Vanishing Ranch. But when she starts to have unexplained, dangerous episodes and suffer memory lapses, she begins to doubt her reality.
She senses her ex has found her. But she doesn’t know if the problem is real or if her mind is playing tricks on her. She can’t contact the police—they would ask too many questions. So, she turns to the very people she knows can help her.
When former Secret Service agent and Vanishing Ranch operative Ruger Stark is assigned to check in on Sarah, he comes determined to find what exactly has her so spooked. But when he arrives at her lakefront home, he realizes he has much more to handle than a typical protection detail.
Ruger and Sarah must stick together to sort through the lies and uncover the truth. Is Sarah drowning in confusion. Or is someone playing a deadly game?
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Sarah Chamberlain questions her sanity when she begins to have blackouts and one night wakes up trying to kill herself in the cold lake behind her house. Certain she is being stalked by the ex-husband Charlie helped her stage her death to escape, she calls Charlie, head of Vanishing Ranch, and asks for help.
Charlie sends Ruger Stark, a new operative at Vanishing Ranch to check on Sarah and help her if he can. He arrives at her home to find her attempting suicide in the lake behind her house.
Is Sarah losing her mind or is someone playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with her?
As with the other books in this series, I was quickly drawn into this fast-paced story. Suspenseful with a good dollop of developing, clean romance, I recommend Deadly Intent if you like your romance with ex-military type action and a few twists along the way.
Sarah thought she had escaped her past and has started a new, comfortable life far away. But then, strange things begin happening. She has memory lapses and begins acting in odd ways. Has her ex-husband found her? Sarah knows that if he has, he will kill her for sure this time, so she reaches out to the only place she believes can help -- Vanishing Ranch. They rescued her once before, helped her change her name and give her a new identity and place to live. Ruger Stark is sent to figure out if Sarah really is in danger, or if it's all in her imagination, but when he arrives, he discovers Sarah almost dead in the lake. Why did she go in? Is she losing her mind? Or is there some other explanation? Ruger is ready to risk everything to make sure Sarah is safe but he doesn't know if the enemy he's fighting is real or imagined.
I received an advance copy of this novel with no obligations. The opinions are my own.
This one was a hard one to figure out - she kept me guessing on the bad guy until the very end!
Sarah is a home health nurse. She didn't use to be Sarah, but she had to go into hiding because of her crazed ex-husband. Charlie helps her fake her death and go into hiding, but it seems her husband has found her and is tormenting her again - or is it her husband? Perhaps it is the local doctor who seems to be popping up and sneaking around her quite frequently.
Ruger, an ex-secret service agent, is sent to figure out if the pressure has gotten to Sarah and she is just imagining these things, or are the things she's going through real? At first Ruger thinks it's her imagination, but when she is zoning out and he can't get through to her he knows something sinister is going on!
This is a clean read. A few kisses, no bad language.
This book starts out and is very different than previous stories in the series, which I appreciate.
I was impressed with the twists and turns that Barritt put in this book. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something would happen to make me question my assumption.
We met Ruger in the previous book and he was definitely shrouded in mystery and I wasn't sure if I trusted him. However, in this book as the leading man, he is definitely trustworthy and a guy of integrity.
The romance as usual was sweet but not without complications. The line of faith and trust shine in this story.
Disclaimer: I did receive this book from the author, but was under no obligation to provide a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Deadly Intent by Christy Barrit is a mystery with a woman who is trying to escape her abusive husband. With plenty of moments of action and romance, Barritt writes another story that will keep readers flipping through the pages as they wonder who is stalking and harming Sarah as she through she was safe. Ruger, the hero, is on protection duty, and, of course, sparks start to fly as the characters are shoved into many life threatening situations. Deadly Intent by Christy Barritt is a good read for fans of Barritt’s writings or just love cozy mysteries to begin with.
I received a complimentary copy of Deadly Intent by Christy Barritt but the opinions stated are all my own.
So who am I really? When you have to give up everything to keep those you love safe, it’s the hardest thing ever. Sarah has done that and things are great. But now little things are happening …moved chair door unlocked that he know he locked. Sleepwalking that could led to her death.she calls the one who helped her before…in comes Ruger who Sarah doesn’t remember meeting before and with all the strange things happening, she’s not sure if she can trust him. Ruger listens as Sarah talks of all that’s been happening to her, and he begins to think she has mentally snapped because of the trauma of her old life. But nothing could be further from the truth….
Sarah Chamberlain changed her identity and location to escape her dangerous ex-husband. Now she feels threatened again and wonders if he has found her or if someone else is trying to kill her. Former Secret Service agent and Vanishing Ranch employee Ruger Stark comes to her rescue. The riveting action and escalating danger make this book a compelling read. It keeps you wondering which man is behind the threats and causing her memory lapses and unexplained actions. This book is part of a great suspense series and stands on its own too. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Ruger and Sarah were amazing. This book had everything that an amazing story needs. The story starts off with intrigue. Is Sarah having a psychotic break, or is something else happening? Just when you find out one thing, something else happens. The characters are interesting and the storyline is original. I love that there wasn't any foul language or explicit scenes. This is my first time reading Christy Barritt, but plan on binge reading everything available. If there was any book that deserves a higher than 5, it would be this book. Could not put it down.
Sarah had left Vanishing Ranch and begun her new life in Montana when she started feeling as if she was being watched, that someone had been in her home. Calling Charlie for help, she started doing things at night and not remembering them. Help arrived that night just in time. Was she losing her mind, imagining things, or was someone causing this? She suspected her ex but there are other possibilities. Great suspense, likeable characters, and a brush with pure evil make this a great read.
When I first started reading this series, I was disappointed with the first couple of books. I've read this author before and enjoyed her. The first couple of books seem to be way too predictable, and not very enjoyable. But starting with book three I began to really enjoy the books. I've given book three and book four five stars and I would have given them six or seven if that was possible. I'm hoping the rest of the series turns out as good as books three and four. I'm glad I didn't give up on the series. I seriously thought about it.
I had a BETA copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Unusual things are happening to Sarah so she contacts Vanishing Ranch who had helped her in the past. Ruger is sent to investigate. When things escalate, more people are involved as well as the police. A great book with lots of suspense and mystery. The plot includes issues of trust and self-worth. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series.
Once again, Christy Barritt keeps the reader in suspense throughout this book, Deadly Intent. I love the main characters, Sarah and Ruger. The mystery behind why Sarah keeps sensing someone is watching her and why strange things are happening to her brings a lot of suspense to the story. Ruger becomes very supportive of Sarah and believes she’s not going crazy. Highly recommend this book in the Vanishing Ranch series.
My thoughts: DEADLY INTENT may be the 4th book in this series, but as do the prior ones, it stands alone. Ms. Barritt writes in a fast-paced style that keeps the pages turning and you have to find out who-dun-it and why. Some of the story was somewhat contrived, but it was still a good read. If you like romantic suspense you will love DEADLY INTENT. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.
Some series have dozens of horrible crimes happening in sleepy little towns. I like that these books spread the crimes to different areas of the Country! This mystery was unlike most, and it kept me wondering what was going on. When I finally understood the 'what', I didn't appreciate the insinuation, but it all made for good reading. I recommend this book!
As things begin to happen to Sarah that she can’t explain, she contacts Vanishing Ranch. They work to help Sarah to determine if something is going on or if she is having a break down. In true Christy Barritt form, this book keeps your attention and makes you want to read it in one sitting to find out what is going on. This is a must read!
Highly enjoyable, full of action and suspense defines the latest in Christy Barritt's Vanishing Ranch. Join Ruger as he quickly travels across the country to assist VR's independent client, Sarah, who may be in grave danger again.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
I liked the aura of suspense and the integrity of the main characters. Though a romantic attraction was there the moment Ruger and Sarah met their values kept them from rushing in to instant gratification. Some of their life stories unfold and you get to know the characters from the inside out. Someone made a lot of plans to get to Sarah and Ruger doesn't intend for that to happen!
I loved the fast paced action in this story and the mystery tied it all together. Ruger and Sarah were two wounded people who took the blame for everything wrong in their life. If you want to know why they did that, you have to read to find out. I highly recommend this book and also the first three in the series
The story was Riveting And suspenseful yeah frustrating. Seeing so many mysterious things happening and no leads to who was doing them. Couldn't put my Kindle down because I had to finish the book to see who was behind these things. I recommend this book to anyone that likes intense mystery.
Christy Barritt has done it again. She gave us a story with strong characters and a steady storyline. It was believable from the beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great read. Who wouldn't? Off to enjoy book number five!
This was a great book about Sarah and Ruger. It started off with action and never quit. The author did a great job marking Sarah‘s personality differences between daytime and nighttime and left the reader to wonder what was causing the discord. Highly recommend this read and I look forward to the next book.
The hero was an interesting person who was a hero when he rescued the President. After he resign ed from the Secret Service. , he is still protecting people while working for a private agency. His ass in ment is a young woman hiding from a dangerous husband. The story is excellent with enough suspense to hold the readers interest.
When he left there he did different things but ended going to work for Charlie at Vanishing Ranch. He had met Sarah there but under a different name. Sarah’s ex Husband was CRAZY!! And the story begins. Read now. I couldn’t put it down.
This one pulled at my emotions big time! What terror Sarah lived, yet people would just think she was crazy. Thank God there is always hope! A hunk of a guy helps, too. Goo read!
Can’t wait for the next one! The premise of the stories of Vanishing Ranch is of a beautiful rescue mission. Of course, there’s also romance and incredible suspense, as is always the case with Christy’s books! On to the next one…
I enjoyed reading this book very much. Personally, as much experience, and as many TV shows as I’ve seen in my younger days, it was a little bit predictable. Not trying to spoil it but a little bit like sleeping with the enemy meets. criminal minds. I thought it was well done.

Is Sarah going crazy because of her fear of her ex-husband or is there a real threat that Ruger is not convinced is real? It seems she is crazy because she tries to drown herself several times. Ruger seems the only person who is on her side & able to find the truth. Another great mystery.
This was a fun book to read. It was a great mixture of mystery, suspense, and good romance. I felt like I personally knew each character as with all of this series. I look forward to the next book!!
I really enjoyed this story, it was a great story, it reminded me of my brother-in-law who was a heavy drinker and in his case would verbally abuse my sister to the point I did not want to visit her…
Good things happen at Vanishing Ranch unfortunately Sarah couldn't stay
She thought he'd never find her, she could live a quiet peaceful life. Was it him or had someone else decided to take possession of her? She needed Charlie's help again.
