Bae Hwa is a thirteen-year-old North Korean girl who likes to steal backpacks. When she unknowingly gets her hands on a satchel full of nuclear codes, her entire family is in danger and she ends up in prison. CIA cybercrime’s expert, Alex Halee, goes off mission and infiltrates The Lazarus Group, a North Korean covert lab run by the notorious Pok. When he’s discovered and thrown in the same prison cell as Bae, it’s a race against time to save them both and keep the codes out of the hands of those who want to destroy America . . . “I’m hooked on Terry Toler novels.” “You never know where it’s going to go next. Love it!” “You kept me on the edge of my seat.” “The way you educate the reader about spy techniques while Alex educated the young girl was masterful.”
If you like intrigue, plot twists, deep emotional connections between the characters, and gut-wrenching drama, then you’ll love this fast-paced adventure by best-selling author, Terry Toler.

"Terry Toler is well written, and a rising star in literary fiction." Michael DeAngelo (Reviewer)
The Longest Day won the 2020 Best Book Award for Religious Fiction sponsored by American Book Fest. Saving Sara and The Late Great Planet Jupiter were both finalists for the 2021 Best Book Award in the Thriller/Adventure and REligious Fiction categories.
So Terry Toler wrote a series that includes both a female heroine and a male hero. The female is the focus for the majority of book one (Save the Girls.) In book two, Alex is the focus. What was interesting about this book is the fact that it is set in North Korea. How the author presented the country definitely seemed accurate. The thirteen year old secondary character was feisty and added a lot to the story. The situations were believable. One of the sweetest parts in the book was at the small mountain café - that woman's faith was inspiring. This book has to do with cyber security and may scare you from wanting to ever use a computer again. I think I enjoyed this second book even more. While it was equally intense as book one, the topic was less intrusive.
Living in one of the cruelest and closed countries in the world is not an easy deal, so it´s surprising to find a teenager so resilient and determined as Bae. She sees so much destruction and wrongdoings and has no idea what the world outside of her own is like. The two US agents who help her at a very difficult moment, also bring some light to her life and allow her to become just a teenager again. Lots of action, many beliefs spoke for, and an overall sense of relief as things go back to normal again. Very entertaining!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I found this one a but harder to read and get into than the other Jamie Austen books, but it was still excellent.
This takes place in North Korea and South Korea and involves codes being stolen by a young girl, Bae, not knowing she was getting a satchel of incredibly valuable nuclear codes.
In the meantime, Alex gets into a cyber lab in North Korea but ends up running for his life. When Alex disappears and his handler gets concerned, Jamie gets called. She goes to South Korea but on the way runs into two Iranians who are after Alex and the codes.
Oh my gosh, these books are so much fun! The spy stuff is great, but the dialogue with it is priceless! These characters are quickly becoming favorites. I highly recommend this book as well as any others in the series. I haven’t read them all yet, but I truly anticipate some awesome books ahead!
This is an exciting spy thriller with complex, interesting characters. You can’t help but root for the main characters but the action in So. Korea gives insight into the lives of the common people living there. I absolutely plan on reading more in the series.
Terry Toler has written a good second story in the series with Adam and Jamie spies who are romanticly involved. He is in North Korea and becomes involved with saving a 13 year old girl whose parents have been killed. This can be read as a stand alone book.
Not only is this a great read you can learn a lot about self defense. I also learned quite a bit about North Korea and the deplorable living conditions for the people
I enjoyed the tale the characters were believable in the main and likeable. The action was continuous if somewhat contrived. Having said all that I will look out for Terry Toler and read more of his work.
I couldn't hardly put this book down after I started reading! It had action, suspense and a little romance! I guess this is my favorite book so far this year and I've already read 100 books!
This was a great book. I absolutely loved Bae. She was a breath of fresh air. She made me laugh out loud at her antics. I was 100% on her side when she said she wanted to go to spy school. I thought she'd make a good little spy. Can't wait to see her again in another edition (fingers crossed).
I really enjoyed this book The Ingenue: Political Spy Thriller. The story takes place in North Korea and was well written and kept my attention throughout.
Why not five stars? At times the story gets hung up in a "what could happen if" loop before the actual scene plays out. Once is ok but not every single time the story heads into critical action or a possible dilemma. None the less, it still kept me engaged, anticipating and wanting more!
And in this book a continuation of the Jamie Austin series, her boyfriend, Alex Hayee takes center stage and his skill- set in the spy world is better revealed. Alex takes on North Korea, with the help of a little girl who has a spy skill-set of her own. In addition to a lot of action,Toler reveals a lot of little known facts about North Korea, and their way of life. I am so glad I started the series.
Only finished it to see if anything interesting might happen, first half had real potential. A bit predictable and preachy... main character is a good christian, just the best at everything, all non-christians are portrayed as evil, conscienceless monsters. sigh.
The book had me at the edge of my seat it was hard to put down. The characters were very interesting. While I know very little how intelligence agencies work, it seemed believable to me
I want sure if I would get into this book since I'm not into computers and such but it was just as good as other books by this author. I recommend reading it.
Book 2 in this series doesn’t disappoint. Alex is sent on a mission to South Korea and things deteriorated from there. Plenty of action and intrigue in this story.
