It was supposed to be a night to forget. After a night of sizzling passion, they agreed to never contact each other again. Fate disagreed.

Jamie Wattson has no use for men who leave and as far as she’s concerned, they all do. She’s focused on running her inn and spending time with girlfriends. Life is simple and she wants it that way.

Darby Devillier left California a broken man after his girlfriend and best friend admit to an affair. Betrayed and humiliated, he takes a teaching position in Emerson Pass to start anew. He’s more than a little surprised to learn he already knows one of the residents of the small-town in Colorado. Jamie, the woman who was supposed to be a rebound one-night stand, owns the local inn. But they’re both adults. No problem. They agree to be casual friends and nothing more.

However, everything changes when Darby’s ex and former best friend show up in town for their wedding. What’s a boy to do but agree to a fake engagement to save face? Will the sparks between them become something more as they pretend to be in love?

Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter:
http://tesswrites.com/. You’ll receive an ebook copy of her novella, The Santa Trial, for your
efforts.

Much to her father’s horror, you can find her everywhere on social media.

Thompson writes such compelling, contemporary stories filled with just enough edge to make things really interesting. My favorite works by this author, however, are her historical novels. And this book has the best of both. We have the current story of Jamie and Darby, filled with romance, drama, friendship, and humor set in the tight knit community of Emerson Pass... And then there's Annabelle's journal in the lockbox which added such a magical touch to the book. I loved her story...As always, Thompson's attention to details and use of current events add to the flavor of the times. I simply loved this one. Now I'm left to wonder...just where did that necklace end up?

I won this book on Goodreads. And I am so glad I did!

This was my first Tess Thompson book, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this one.
Jamie and Darby are flawed and vulnerable, which makes them relatable. The storyline moved at a nice pace and I couldn't stop reading it. The cast of characters around them are likable also. I will definitely read the other Tess Thompson Emerson Pass books.

Tess Thompson takes us back once again to Emerson Pass, but this time is last time! The Innkeeper of Emerson Pass is the fifth and final book in The Emerson Pass Contemporaries. This is Jamie and Darby’s story and it is a little different from the others. A well written, fast paced story that is not only a romance story but has darker subjects throughout. The characters are unique and wonderful. It is a heartwarming story that will pull at your heartstrings. Filled with drama, romance and history, Ms. Thompson has you turning the pages very quickly. She has a way of placing you in Emerson Pass and will not want to leave. I highly recommend all the Emerson Pass books, Historical and Contemporaries. Tess Thompson never disappoints.

Thank you Tess Thompson for an advanced copy of the final book in this superior series. My opinions are my own.

Such a sweet, heartwarming romance!

Jamie and Darby had a ONS when they first met in Cliffside Bay, then were surprised to find that they both had moved to Emerson Pass. Friends now, just friends, because neither one of them has the confidence necessary to pursue any "what-ifs." Jamie is still getting her inn back up and running after a devastating fire, while Darby is trying to figure out who he is while lying low in the wake of his father's very public scandal.

I loved the easy friendship between these two, and how the introduction of a person from their past was enough to spur both Jamie and Darby into rethinking their priorities. This author really knows how to lay bare her characters' hearts and souls, and I love getting to know each of them as they grow into the people they were meant to be.

This final book in the contemporary series is deeply connected to the historical series, through the Barnes family and through Annabelle Higgins. I loved the way the story bridged the gap between the two, building the town's current success on the history and values of the founding family. I also adored the way the other contemporary characters contributed to the current romance, like a gaggle of meddling grandmas, providing support and advice and more than a few necessary nudges in the right direction.

This is the kind of book that gives you a week's worth of happy sighs after reading, and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves contemporary romances. Jamie and Darby are perfect together and I loved watching all their dreams come true. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The Innkeeper
By Tess Thompson.

Emerson pass Books written like no others these
Books are truly inspiring. I'm a Big fan of This
Series. Thank you tess for writing these beautiful
Books.

Darby and Jamie's story.

Once a long time ago a life time ago these two, had a one night stand in California. Never saw each other again.

Now in Colorado

Living in Colorado, for Darby living life day to day,
now a school teacher. Doing what he has to do. Not knowing Jamie is living in Colorado also.
But having the same crowd of friends. Not much everyone doesn't know in small towns.

Jamie,
The Innkeeper.
Needing a handyman -carpenter, The only one available would be Darby, Things can't be all bad. The story warms up from here.. There's a Gazebo that needs to be built.. For an old love.. an old love who tends to be.. A bit of a troublemaker.. But for Darby and Jamie... Friendship or will it be something else.. This was the perfect story..

And one of my very favorite parts of this book.
Was,The Box, That Jamie and Darby dug up from 1924.. Annabel Cooper story - A connection to the Barnes family....

These books are absolutely fabulous.. I just can't recommend them enough.. These are the contemporary Emerson pass series books. But they're linked in ways to the historical Emerson pass series. There's another historical Emerson pass book coming out in January.
January 22nd 2023. I'm just an absolute fan of this series...

Thank you again TessThompson for such wonderful stories..

The Innkeeper Of Emerson Pass
By: Tess Thompson

🌟 🌟 5 🌟 stars 🌟 🌟

Darby and Jamie have met before. Cliffside Bay. One night.
When they realize they are BOTH now living in Emerson Pass, the shock is evident. Darby is a school teacher and Jamie is the owner of the newly "newly" renovated inn. The kicker...they even live in the same apartment building. All the cards just align for them to fall together until a surprise wedding at the inn, one that seems like a blessing for Jamie, may be a disaster in waiting for Darby. They both want to move forward, but is it possible?

I knew this story was going to be amazing and I was right. It had the modern with the mix of the old. It was romantic and funny, but dramatic and a bit scary (I was seriously freaking out when I realized the identity of the bride). As always though, I loved it. I loved Jamie and Darby. I loved the whole "real" story of the inns "past". The characters and the storyline were perfect.
Oh man, I try my hardest to avoid spoilers when I do a review. It can be hard when you want to brag on everything. I'll just say... It was all around a great story.

I have loved this series and this was a wonderful addition to both the contempory and historical sides of Emerson Pass. Tess gets better with every book. She amazes me with every turn of the page. I know she will you too if you just give her a try. :)

Darby and Jamie had one night together in California, It was the best night, and the worst night of Darby’s life… He had just been dumped by his fiancé, when he decided he needed a fresh start.
He winds up in Colorado, He did not know that Jamie lives there and works there also. To complicated more they have all the same friends, who all are married.
They do not want their past, one night, to get in the way of the friendship so it is friends that they remain. Out of the blue Darby’s old fiancé shows up, engaged to his best friend, and wants to have her wedding at Jamie’s Inn.
What starts out as play acting, but not really, turns into real emotions, real love, and gets real scary for both Darby and Jamie.
Both have huge emotional scars from their past and can they put the past behind them or will it pull them apart?
I loved this book, absolutely adored Darby and Jamie! I cannot believe this is the last book in the Emerson pass contemporary series… I have followed not only the contemporary series but the historical series as well and love how they tie into each other.

Tess Thompson has done it again…she has written a spectacular finale to another book series! While Jamie and Darby’s inspiring love story is the main part of this story, she creatively ties in an interesting mystery of the history that lies in Emerson Pass while including life updates to past characters that we have come to love. This book could not have been a more perfect ending to a wonderful series!!! I am very much looking forward to the next series to come.

If you were not aware, the Emerson Pass book series was a split between historical fiction and current day contemporary romance. I highly recommend reading her previous books in this series before reading ‘The Innkeeper’ so that you will have all the background info in order to truly appreciate the ending to this wonderful series. A huge thank you shout out to Tess Thompson, for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Jamie and Darby shared a night of wild passion in Cliffside Bay, California after Darby's marriage proposal to his girlfriend went horribly wrong. This was something neither one of them did on a routine basis and they agreed to never mention it again.
Imagine Darby's surprise, after taking a teaching job at the local high school in Emerson Pass, Colorado to learn that his one-night stand was the local innkeeper. Their friends kept trying to match them and Jamie and Darby kept ruining their matchmaking efforts. That is, until his ex-girlfriend showed up with his former best friend to have their wedding there-at Jamie's inn.
Are Jamie and Darby compatible on a daily basis? Can they keep up the charade of being madly in love? Are they really madly in love? Will his ex figure out what they are doing? Will his best friend bury the hatchet with Darby?
Answers can be found only by reading the book. This is yet another hit from an amazing author.

The Innkeeper is a fabulous read. I loved this one so much. If you have been reading the Emerson Pass Contemporaries, then you are familiar with Darby and Jamie just a little. Jamie owns the inn and is still recovering after the fire. Darby is a schoolteacher who does carpentry on the side. Both have troubled pasts dealing with their fathers. This is more of a second chance for Darby and Jamie as a one-night stand turns into a semi friendship through mutual friends. I love Darby and Jamie together as they let their walls down. They have this fantastic chemistry build as they pretend to be a couple when Darby's ex starts making waves. This is such a sweet read and you heart will ache for Darby's past. I love the tie into the Emerson Pass Historical series throughout this. I love what Tess Thompson brings to the pages. Every book I have read so far has captured my heart and this one is no different. I could not get enough of this book. You need to meet Darby and Jamie today.

The Innkeeper is the fifth and final book in the Emerson Pass Contemporaries series. It is centered around Darby who is a high school teacher and Jamie the owner of the local inn. Darby and Jamie had a one night stand in Cliffside Bay, California before they both separately and unbeknownst to each other moved to Emerson Pass, CO. They became close friends after moving to Colorado but did not become a couple until much later when they hatched a plan to be a fake couple. Darby and Jamie have a lot in common, including both of their fathers being abusive, one physically and the other mentally abusive. It is a very touching love story written by a wonderful author. Thank you, Tess, for another great book....sorry to hear that it is the last book in the series.

Tess Thompson's stories of second-chance romance are so much more than that. Her characters are so real - flaws and merits woven together, with real scars that need a caring touch to heal. The Innkeeper concludes the Emerson Pass contemporary series with Jamie and Darby's story. After coming together in a one-night stand in Cliffside Bay (a series ago), they find each other living in the same apartment building in Emerson Pass and hanging with the same crowd of friends. What they discover is both were scared by abusive fathers (one physical, the other emotional). As they journey through a "fake" relationship to one-up Darby's cheating ex, they find comfort and more in each other's company. A great read. Thank you Tess for the ARC copy, I loved reading this one.

Jamie has been hurt by past "loves" so she doesn't trust any man. She has rebuilt her inn after it was burned. Darby was rejected as he was about to propose and Jamie saw it happen. He was a broken man and moved to Emerson Pass as a teacher. Who shows up at Jamie's inn but Darby's former girlfriend with her new love who also is Darby's former best friend. They both have a talent for making Darby feel like a total failure.
Jamie and Darby agree to be a pretend couple to impress his former friends. Will sparks fly or is Darby still in love with his ex?
You must read this final book in The Emerson Pass Contemporary series.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read this book.

“The Innkeeper” is the last book in Tess Thompson’s “Emerson Pass Contemporaries” series. It is the story of Jamie and Darby, who we briefly met in Tess Thompson’s “Cliffside Bay” series. (I love crossovers!) The author does a great job dealing with the difficult issues of both Jamie’s and Darby’s childhood traumas. She realistically portrays how their past issues impact their relationship, without making the book feel too heavy. Ms. Thompson also weaves together the entire “Emerson Pass” series by including Annabelle’s story from the “Emerson Pass Historicals” series. I loved how she cleverly wove the entire series together. I highly recommend this novel. Thank you to the author and the publisher for an advanced review copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Inn Keeper is the last of the contemporary novels in the Emerson Pass series. Although not necessary to read the previous novels, I highly recommend them all!! This series (historical and contemporary) is wonderful!!

After a wild night many years ago, Jamie & Darby are still just friends, despite the unspoken chemistry between them. After a blast from the past comes in and forces them to work together, their friendship strengthens. Both facing demons from their childhood, and finding a lockbox from Emerson Pass’s history, their affection grows. But, that blast from the past is not willing to let them be happy. This story is full of drama, romance, and friendship, and I highly recommend it!

Thank you to the author for an ARC at my request; the opinions in this review are my own.

A delightful read (albeit a sad one as its the last in its series) about two friends who had a one night stand years ago (in one of the author's other series). Both Jamie and Darby have been scarred in their youths by their fathers - in different ways, but this has left a mark on each one.
When circumstances push them together again, they decide to play along, until it no longer is pretend and they have to decide what to do next when their hearts are in danger.
What I love about this author is firstly the wholesomeness of the stories and secondly, she manages to slip in current affairs issues into her novels without it feeling like its been forced onto you - she leaves it there and it grows in your mind and makes you think about things.

Known for her books of Emerson Pass in its early stages of being a town and the Lord Barnes family, The Innkeeper by Tess Thompson, is a delightful romance in the lives of Jamie and Darby and a modern day look into Emerson Pass as it is now.
Friends from high school and a chance one night stand (never to be spoken of again,) is made even more uncomfortable when Jamie and Darby both end up in Emerson Pass. An amusing end to this delightful series. But whether historical or modern this series has provided hours of wonderful, relaxing reading. The comments and review are my honest opinion of this ARC I received from the author.

I have been on this journey to the fictional town of Emerson Pass for the past two years & loved every minute of it! Tess Thompson is one of my favorite authors anyway, but her idea to write both contemporary & historical stories set in the same town & featuring descendants of original settlers was truly inspired! The Innkeeper is the last of the contemporary books and is the story of Jamie & Darby, two people who have lost lots & are struggling to find their own happiness. This book can be read as a standalone, but I think you’ll enjoy it more when you know all the characters & get a chance to meet all these great friends. I’m sad this is the end, but I have surely enjoyed the ride!

The Inn Keeper is another brilliant book by Tess Thompson. The final book in the Emerson Pass Contemporary Series, it bought together two characters and cleverly linked in the highly successful Cliffside Bay series. The Innkeeper was a fabulous read and I fell in love with Darby and Jamie. Their unique personalities and how they overcame personal struggles and dealt with nasty vindictive ex partners and friends was heartwarming. I just wanted to step inside the book and stay at the Inn. I haven’t given away any of the plot because I didn’t want to spoilt an amazing read. Thank you Tess for your ingenuity-‘once again!

Sadly the end of the contemporary series of Emerson Pass. Darby and Jamie had one night of passion and some time later both ended up living in Emerson Pass. They share difficulty trusting as they both have had issues with their fathers. The book features drama, friendship and support in the community of Emerson Pass. There are also references to the historical Barnes Family

Darby volunteers to build a gazebo at Jamie’s Inn,
Only to learn the wedding is for a former girlfriend he wanted to propose to.

Will they be able to trust in love again. Can Darby overcome the hurts of his abusive father

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

The only thing I hate about this series is this is the finale. The Innkeeper is the 5th book in the Emerson Pass contemporaries series.
A story about Jamie and Darby. It is a heartwarming romance full of drama and the unexpected. Once you start reading you cannot put the book down. You are in Emerson Pass and they are your friends. Tess includes past characters from previous books and gives you updates in this story.
This entire series will not disappoint you. In fact, any book by Tess Thompson is a true gift to read.
Thank You to the author and publisher for this arc. All opinions in this review are my own.

What a wonderful way to end the Emerson Pass Contemporary series! I adored Darby and Jamie's story! What started with a night together turned into so much more! When Darby's ex shows up engaged to his ex best friend wanting to have their wedding at Jamie's Inn, Jamie and Darby pretend they are a couple. While doing this they realize their feelings have grown. Will they be able to make a relationship work or will their pasts pull them apart? I loved The Innkeeper! I'm sad to see the end of this series. I'm excited to see what Tests gives us next!

The Innkeeper was the perfect ending to Tess Thompson's Emerson Pass Contemporary Series. It was the story of Darby and Jamie. One thing I really liked about this book was the way the author told the story from Darby's and then Jamie's point of view. The chapters alternated. They are both flawed because of their childhoods, but together they are the perfect couple. I honestly feel that I have lived in Emerson Pass myself! This was a lovely story, and I will miss the town and all my friends who lived there. Thank you to the author for an ARC. All opinions are mine.

Last book in this wonderful series!

With every new book I would say this is my favorite! But this last one with Darby and Jamie was definitely my favorite. Dealing with abuse is never easy to read. But Tess Thompson did a wonderful job with it. Along with the pain, hopefully we can grasp onto the unconditional love that sometimes awaits us when we least expect it. That is what Darby and Jamie were able to do.
A big thank you to Tess Thompson for her dedication to writing from the heart!
Happy Reading!

Darby and Jaime had a one time hookup years ago that they both tried to forget. Darby ends up in Colorado within the same friend circle as Jaime. All their friends think they are a great match. When people from Darby 's past show up, Jamie and Darby end up working together and realize how much they complement each other. This book continues the series and helps you complete your wonders of what happens next. I loved this series. Thank you to the Author and Publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC. Tess Thompson delivered another fantastic story yo wrap up the Emerson Pass contemporary series! The story of Jamie and Darby is unexpected yet heartwarming. A page turner I couldn't put down wanting to see what was next. I loved the way Tess wove the story of Annabelle and all the connections to the historical series. These characters in Emerson Pass, both contemporary and historical, feel like they've all become part of my life! I love these stories and this one is an excellent wrap up of the contemporary series! Thank you Tess for these fabulous stories!

The last of their friend group to still be single, Darby and Jamie have denied the connection they found 2 years ago. That connection is eventually too much to ignore, and current circumstances push them to admit that to each other.

They both have scars from their childhood - very serious ones that are handled very sensitively. These scars create a bit of push and pull but ulteimately allow them to understand where thee other is coming from and strengthen their relationship.

Kind of bittersweet at times, but a wonderful read.

The Emerson Pass Contemporary series has been a delight to read. The last story centers on Jamie and Darby. I have been waiting for their story since we first met these two in the Cliffside Bay series. Their one night in Cliffside Bay made for a little awkwardness when they both relocated to Emerson Pass. When a project has them working together they realize there might be more between them than just one night. This tale was sweet conclusion to the series.

4.5 stars!! I’ve loved the contemporary books in this series! And Jamie and Darby’s may have been the best! These are two people who have been through so much in life. They are both so similar in that they prefer to fly under the radar and just be. I loved the story in this one and the story from the past that is interlaced with it. I’m sad to see the contemporary series end but it ended on a great note!
