This was a gift from my son for Christmas, so I started at #31 in the series, but not a problem at all. I truly enjoyed the woman factor of this book as well as the men treating women as people vs objects. I enjoy the older way of life setting and thinking and will be sure to look for more of this series. While this is a 'cowboy' story of good overcoming evil, there is nothing wrong with that...sometimes it is wonderful when the good guy wins!

Smoke's larger than life and it's pretty far fetched for most of it but entertaining.

Good!

Another great book but I gave it four stars because it had no ending. Too bad too cause other than that it was wonderful.

The mountain.

Another great story with Smoke Jensen and his good friends. The accusers finally get what they deserved, and an eye for an eye.

An oddity in the Smoke series I've read so far, and I've read about 35 of them. During this one the main characters turn their views from one direction to another.

Revenge on Smoke is the subject of this adventure. Angus MacDougal a big shot, whose son Smoke rightfully killed decides he will have Smoke killed and hire men to do it. The daughter of Angus decides she will revenge her brother's death but then learns a hard lesson. Death is one lesson that Smoke will teach in this one along with a few other life lessons.

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCE

Smoke, a young who was educated to ways of The Mountain Men, is a grown married man who lives in the town of Big Rock, Colorado. In fact, Smoke and his wife Sally started this town. Well, you always have bullies, show offs and worse. This is about an a wealthy old man who loved to intimidate people. He felt he and his family were better than the community, he's condescending to everyone including his daughter. The cowboys who worked for him were afraid of him and he loved when people cower down to him. His son is gets his teeth knocked out by one of the mountain men, Grizzly, whom Johnny MacDougall made fun of by saying he smelled like a SKUNK...not a thing to say, when you can't back your actions...which Johnny MacDougal couldn't do..he's known around Publeo as a back shooter, and a murderer. The law is in the back pocket of his father Angus MacDougal, so he had nothing to fear. A big mistake was made when Johnny tried to brace Smoke and friends, not a good choice. Johnny is dead his father SNAPS and wants Smoke dead dead and dead..This is the wrong man to challenge, but there's always the idiot who thinks he can out gun SMOKE..SMOKE..
Crazy father, spoil bratty son, a daughter trying to get her father's love. Lots GOING on great adventure..you'll ENJOY this adventure starring SMOKE JENSEN..

I think the reason people like westerns so much is the justice. There is a great balance to them where everything works out in the end. That is not the way it is with real life and sometimes I just need an escape. I gained that escape through this book. I have read some of the Mountain Man series before but it has been a long time ago. I borrowed this from the library for my Kindle and enjoyed every moment of it. Right comes out on top while wrong is made to suffer. It is black and white and no one even attempts to blur the lines. I will read more of Johnstone's western books as my library makes them available for the kindle. If you are looking for some quick enjoyable reads then check out Johnstone's Mountain Man or Preacher series.

Loaned to me by Butch Green. This is not one of the "Preacher" series; it's a "Smoke Jensen" western.

I'm torn between "did not like" and "it was okay." I have enjoyed some of the books in Johnstone's "Preacher" series, but not much this one. The characters did not behave in tune with the traits depicted for them. Also I was highly peeved about the author making a point of Smoke uncharacteristically leaving the house without his hat and guns, then later he pulled down his hat to keep snow from burning his eyes. Not only was it poor editing, but it was bad writing. I thought maybe this was an early offering and Johnstone did better later, but the publication date was 2011. I'll stick with the "Preacher" series.

Don't think I ever read a "Western" before, but this was pretty good. I listened to it in the car and it held my attention.

I really enjoyed the story line and characters in this book. I started reading Louis L'Amour books when I was 5 or so and really enjoy a good western.

Very good western series. The story of Smoke Jensen, trained by the last of the mountain men as a boy. If you like men's adventure and westerns then you will enjoy the series. Recommended
