Veteran Jace Nichols misses the interview for his dream job in Miami when he steps in to rescue a woman under attack. A woman who seems more concerned about him rescuing her shoe than her life.
Misty Morgan knows well that everyone is fighting some kind of battle. Her battle is against a snob of a mother. She's uncertain what her rescuer is battling, but she senses his wounds run deeper than a missing arm.
When Jace spots Misty fending off another fawning male, his self-control snaps and he steps in again. Her too short skirts and too tall heels and too sexy legs draw men to her. He's no different, as it seems.
Maybe one crazy night will get her out of his system. Or maybe he'll Instead find himself with more second chances than he can shake his steel hook at. If he can make space for love in his wounded heart.
Meet Nikki Duncan, Author of Small-Town Romance and Second Chance Love
Looking for emotional healing romance with strong female leads and second chance love stories? Nikki Duncan writes small-town romance novels and romantic women’s fiction about healing that go deeper than the surface. Her books explore the kind of love that repairs what’s broken, fuels self-discovery, and lingers long after the last page.
Nikki’s journey started in secret, writing her first story while devouring Harlequins. That quiet beginning led to a career of more than twenty novels and a fan-favorite debut, Sounds to Die By. The book began as a challenge to create a blind hero without drowning him in angst. It became a contemporary romance series readers still return to.
Over the years, Nikki’s work has appeared alongside romance icons like Shayla Black, Jaci Burton, Sylvia Day, and Cathryn Fox. Her stories blend emotion, resilience, and unexpected twists. Whether it’s laughter or heartbreak, Nikki’s characters push through life’s messes and find connection on the other side.
Off the page, she’s touched nearly every part of the book world. She’s designed covers, built websites, written for romance magazines, and hosted reader parties. One even featured a surprise cameo by EL James. After years of creative burnout, Nikki took a step back to care for her family and rekindle her spark.
Now, she writes from her restored farmhouse in Texas Horse Country. Her home, once dubbed “Dump to Dream,” inspires the kind of hope she weaves into every book. Whether it’s a reclusive star in Healing His Heart or a grieving sister in Her Twelve Miracles of Christmas, Nikki’s stories are layered with meaning.
When she’s not writing, she’s sipping tea, reworking her website (again), or dreaming up the next love story that just might change a life.
I am a HUGE fan of Nikki Duncan. This is the first book that I have read in the Tulle and Tulips series and I'm definitely going back to read Tangled In Tulle. Twisted In Tulips was an entertaining read. It was short and sexy and left me smiling at the end. Jace and Misty perfectly suited each other. I love a wounded/broken hero and a heroine that can help her hero find peace. Jace was kind of an asshat with the way he constantly commented on her clothes but he definitely made up for it. I just loved him!! I loved the way that even though they fought, they couldn't keep their hands off each other and it turned into some hot sex scenes. ;) Just a great little story that I wished was longer. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and hopefully see Jace and Misty again. 4 out of 5 rating.

I swear I am a novella junkie, I can’t help it. I know when I start one it’s going to be short but the junkie in me just keeps screaming for more. I don’t know why I torture myself so much, umm…yes I do, I’m addicted to them; plain and simple. Even though I know it’s going to be short, even though I know the characters might not be developed as much as I would like, even though the relationships move along at an alarming rate; I can’t stop reading them. Too many authors that I read and adore write them and not reading them isn’t an option. What I do have to do is remind myself every time that what I’m about to read is a novella and I can’t fault anyone other than myself for wanting MORE when it’s over. Twisted in Tulips is the second book in Nikki Duncan’s Tulle and Tulips series and I definitely wan more after finishing this one, not that it didn’t end well because it did but because I really need to see this couple again!
Jace Nichols is an ex-military war hero. The chip on his shoulder weighs as much as the prosthetic hook on his arm. On his way to a job interview he spots a woman being followed and knowing something bad is about to happen he decides to intervene despite the fact he knows it will cost him his dream job.
Misty Morgan is a wedding floral coordinator who loves her job almost as much as she loves her shoes and snazzy outfits. When she’s rescued by a stranger with a bad attitude and a hook arm, she’s grateful but really off balance.
This couple moves at breakneck speed, two chance encounters in one day followed by what amounts to some stalking (with best interests at heart) right into heart stopping sex in the hallway of her home all within a day. Oh yeah, it is one of those sexy as hell encounters that leave you a little breathless. I’d like to say this encounter leads to a sweet, tied up with a neat bow romance but that’s not the case. Jace has some major issues most dealing with the accident that caused in injury and discharge. Misty’s not without some baggage as well, mainly her disapproving mother. Jace ends up getting the job which happens to be in the same building Misty works in. He gets a chance to observe her and know a little bit more about her. She figures out what he needs and makes a very bold gesture to let him know he may be injured, but he’s whole.
I enjoyed Twisted in Tulips and I hope that since we saw a little of Lori and Trevor (from book 1) in this installment, we’ll be treated to a glimpse of Jace and Misty in the next book. While this relationship went from 0 to 60 very quickly, they both seemed to really “get” each other and are a perfect match! Enjoy!
This is a short novella that is steamy and sweet! Even though the Hero is all man, he still has a vulnerable side. The heroine is a smart ass chic who does and says what she wants and I like it! Hot sex, sweet and endearing story. I'm looking forward to more from the Tulle and Tulips wedding ladies!
Twisted in Tulips by Nikki Duncan Misty Morgan was rescued from the attack by Jace Nichols. He had even saved her shoes-her most prized possessions. She helped run Tulle and Tulips Designer Weddings with others. Jace was hoping to get a high tech job with the security company but because he had saved her from the attack, the cops came and that put him very late for the interview. At the bar they are with others at separate tables and after she leaves Jace follows her and with his military background he is able to gain access to her town house. He tries to explain to her to cover up more that she's inviting unwanted men to stalk her. When he wakes from the nightmare he knows he has to get out of there as he doesn't want to divulge his secrets to her, yet.
Misty has her reasons for dressing as she does. Love the wedding decoration ideas and how to cut costs for other parts of the wedding. He surprises her with not only a note ... and something she thought she'd never have again. She knows what and how she will repay him with. Like how this is a series and some of the same people are in the same books. They can be read out of order. Love how the book got it's title and there are excerpts of other works at the end. I received this from the author and will post my honest reviews.
I still like the way this series is turning out, but I had real problems with some of the hero's attitudes towards women in this particular book. Although he supposedly changed his views, I didn't feel that he'd completely redeemed himself.
I love the pairing of these two. Misty is just the right heroine for Jace, giving and strong she's just what he needs to renew his faith in people. Loved it!!
This was a good short read. Not to steamy, but very romantic. The biggest minus, I would love a longer version. I think I could really fall for Jace. And I like Misty's personality.
