“As for me, I will tell about him forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob.” Psalm 75:9
From songs of praise to cries of lament and everything in-between, the book of Psalms captures the wide range of emotions in life. The psalmists paint a picture of a relationship with God that is filled with delays, disappointments, surprises, and triumphs. Through it all, their words model an incredible resolve to keep their eyes on God. Instead of being swallowed up by the darkness of their emotions and circumstances, they persevered in grabbing hold of God's unfailing love and faithfulness.
In this 7-session Bible study, author and singer Adrienne Camp invites you to join her on a journey through the book of Psalms. Gain a deeper understanding of who God is and be encouraged to hold on to Him no matter what is happening around you. Let the psalms become the prayers you carry with you into every moment of every day, so that you, too, can say with confidence, “As for me, I will worship and serve the Lord no matter what.”
As For Me is an excellent Bible study covering the seven types of Psalms. New insights gained and very inspiring!
This is a comprehensive look at the seven types of Psalms and how they relate to today's world and situations both in personal lives and community. Adrienne Camp gently guides readers to explore the seven types of Psalms and how they can impact one’s own life as we pray the Psalms. Video presentations are lovely. Great for small group discussions. Mrs. Camp shares personal stories with grace and wisdom. Spiritually uplifting! An EXCELLENT Bible study that has helped me understand the nature, beauty and benefits of the book of Psalms!
Great breakdown of the psalms into different genres: thanksgiving, wisdom, prophetic, lament, trust/imprecatory, praise and other. The author goes through and has daily reading and writing exercises to help you interact with the psalms in a different way. The videos that go along with this study are short--my biggest qualm would be she talks fast and doesn't provide much note-taking guides for the video portion. Overall, I really enjoyed the setup and the Selah days.
I know I was super inconsistent with this study but it really was so good! I love the way she broke down the psalms. I feel like I got a deeper appreciation for this book of the Bible! I always felt like I was reading what I needed to <3
Update: After finishing the whole study, I stand by my review. While some lessons in later sections do cover Christological prophecy, the majority of lessons are still heavily focused on what we need to be doing. Am I repenting enough? Am I trusting God enough? Am I praising God enough and with sufficient sincerity? Am I seeking Him enough? The main takeaways from the majority of lessons are still what we need to be doing. This is not a Bible study that delivers peace and comfort and rest to the reader, but piles a longer and longer to-do list on her. I’m not advocating for watering down Scripture or appeasing women with flattery and saying we’re fine as we are. However, it’s spiritually dangerous to heap a pile of demands that fundamentally cannot be fulfilled perfectly if there is not also frequent, meaty discussion of the forgiveness given when we inevitably fail.
I’m not done with it yet, but am largely unimpressed through the first few weeks. THIS STUDY IS MISSING JESUS. Why study a book of the Bible for weeks and not talk about the central figure? Maybe he’s all over the later chapters, but even so, I would argue that He should be more central in the first half of the study too.
Taken individually, none of the lessons are horrible on their own. There is certainly a place for discussing sanctification and obedience, especially with wisdom literature. However, this study has lesson after lesson that is wholly focused on our work and efforts. (Sometimes it is blatant, other times is disguised in a way that initially appears like we’re talking about God. Statements challenging us to think about how we can spend more time dwelling on God’s goodness are still focused on us and our actions - what can I DO?) Jesus is notably absent, despite many psalms foreshadowing his life and death, and forgiveness is most often mentioned as something that we need to try harder to be thankful for or remember.
The design of this book is beautiful, I’ll give it that. Props to the Lifeway design team.
I thoroughly enjoyed our women group’s latest Bible Study, As for Me: Life Through the Lens of the Psalms written by Adrienne Camp. (While an artist herself, she is also married to singer Jeremy Camp.) She wrote this study with a thematic approach. The main genres most Psalms can be grouped into are thanksgiving, wisdom, royal & prophetic, lament, trust & imprecatory, and praise. There were just so many things for me to glean from these pages that I feel like I need to go back through and re-read everything I highlighted.
My favorite section was where she had us cross-reference prophetic verses in Old Testament scripture with New Testament fulfillment verses. To see ancient prophecies fulfilled years later shows proof that the Bible is reliable. “He’s the God of the fine print and the bigger picture, and He holds all things in the palm of His hand.”
Today we finished the book by learning about praise Psalms. “The praise psalms are the best antidote to the apathy and distraction that creeps into our hearts.” It made me reflect on how thankful I am that Olive loves worship as much as I do & happily belts out praise songs on the way to school! Overall just a wonderful study that really made me dove into the Psalms unlike I ever had!
This was a beautiful study. Me and my friend did it together, and it was an incredible journey through all the different Psalms. My favorite part was God’s timing with this book. It seemed every time I picked it up to read, what I studied spoke into the season I was in and the struggles I was facing. Not only that, but other Bible studies I was doing along with this one intertwined together, providing an astounding truth of how intricate the Word of God is.
Adrienne writes with such love and grace. God surely used this book to deepen my relationship with Him, and my love for His Word.
I loved this study as a personal one. As a group, it was harder because it was so introspective. You really had to allow yourself the vulnerability of being open to share. Definitely good to keep things in the light and humble ourselves, but there are also very intimate moments with the Lord that are secret and meant for just the two of you. All in all, it was a fantastic study through the Psalms.
Loved this study of the Psalms. It comes with video access, and Adrienne Camp is quite engaging as she introduces each week's study. What I love about Adrienne's writing is that it's clear that she is "all in" for Jesus and because she emphasizes the importance of an engaged relationship with God.
Our Bible study book from Lifeway, for my ladies study group at church. I enjoyed the Psalms and some of the homework, but this was not the best study we have done from Lifeway. The videos are quite short and lent almost nothing to the study itself.
I really enjoyed working through this song and learning more about the Psalms. The accompanying videos were also really good as well. Would recommend for your Bible Study.
Used as a supplement study to my pastor’s sermons for Psalms. Each week studies a different type of psalms and how they can be implemented in our lives today.
