Can she save her realm before there’s nothing left?
After a decade of fighting a war she believed would never end, Alora finds herself scouring her land for the man she loves most. A man torn from her in the streets. The only man she believes can bring them peace. Hiding among her enemies, Alora will stop at nothing to get him back…
Until she’s forced to work with her worst nightmare - Bodhi, an ancient and powerful warrior, whose sworn duty is to protect the humans and slaughter the fae. A creature bred to hate her above all others. If he uncovers her secret, she’ll be executed and her realm at the mercy of its enemies.
When a monsoon washes away her disguise, revealing her truth to him, Alora must make a choice. Kill the silver-eyed man whose scent and voice ignite something deep inside or risk losing her home.
Knife in hand, she makes a decision that will change her stars.
If you love strong female leads with baggage (such as Yennifer of The Witcher), brooding love interests, and side characters with LGBTQ+ representation, you'll love this series. Enemies to lovers, slow burn, and spicy scenes. TW: attempted SA, alcohol consumption, mild bloodshed, loss of a parent (memory).
Sloan writes love through trust and trauma. She also writes open-door spice because romance needs toe-curling steam. Her passion for romance comes from the belief that the world would be a better place if everyone found their fated mate. Fantasy and world-building are the ways she immerses you in a new place that feels familiar, and magic in the bedroom is never off the table.
When she isn’t behind her desk, she’ll be in the garden growing vegetables, or if Canada is buried in snow, she’ll be planning her garden and playing with the dogs. She spends her days with her crux… if you haven’t learned what a crux is, read her complete Dark Aria series. Sloan loves connecting with her readers. Wow, I loved this story. I was instantly drawn to Alora. She is a tough character and loved how you found out more about her as the story progressed. And well, Bodhi, he was just yum. He was a formidable character and liked how he was drawn to Alora. I loved how this world had been developed with the fae and the human worlds crossing over. Loved the slow romance and the action. My kind of story. I can't wait to read the next book.
An enchanting world filled with mysteries to unravel, and sexual tension to savour. Both the story and the tension start as a slow build, merely stoking the fire, before coming into their own in the second half. Finishing Violet Crown already has me salivating for Book 2.
A fascinating new world and an our world. High stakes and a brother missing you'd think that would be enough but when the author adds that touch of romance, it truly becomes a fascinating tale. I absolutely loved how the author weaved these characters and brought them to life and cannot wait to read onwards with the story.
Unique and interesting! This book pulled me in from the start. I really enjoyed escaping into the world bv creates and following Alora’s adventures. Looking forward to the next book!
This was a great debut! The writing flew well, the characters were interesting, and the storyline intriguing. I'm kind of amazed at the main characters' pairing because I'd never have put them together, but Ms. Sloan did a wonderful job with them. The world she created was fantastical in many ways while it still felt realistic. 'Lore' and imagination intertwine to create a truly fascinating story. I'd definitely recommend Violet Crown to anyone interested in fantasy romance, and I'm itching to find out what happens in the next book.
Violet Crown was a unique fae read. The worldbuilding was believable and the variety of creatures, from ogres to gorgons, was interesting. Alora was a tough fmc, and I loved her, twists and all. Bodhi was HOT. His brooding personality, his background, all about him. *chef's kiss* The slow burn about killed me. It was more they just couldn't get together even though they wanted to early on. Once the spice started, it kept coming, and I greedily devoured every bit of it. Sloan writes intimate scenes especially well. Anyone who loves romantic fantasy needs to read this!
This first book in the Violet Crown series was very captivating right from the start. Alora has spent a year working the prison systems of N’dorya, finally moving up to the worst of the worst, in an attempt to find Ryker. Lots of mystery and suspense surround the plot line. Who is Ryker? What is Akita’s story?
She’s forced to work with a member of her sworn enemy species, and romance and conflict are at an all time high for them.
The last third of the book began to feel a little rushed to me, and the secrets the author is trying to hold back for book 2 seem forced. Alora mentions for about half the book that she needs to tell Bohdi some dark secret about her human heritage, but by the end she still hasn’t said what it is. I was also feeling tired of those two constantly having to remind each other that they loved one another. One moment they talked about being Star-crossed lovers/soulmates, and the next one or the other were questioning whether the other really loved them. These reasons are what brought my rating down some for this book - otherwise an entertaining read encompassing a badass female main character, enemies to lovers with a slow burn, and awesome side characters.
there was not really an enemies to lovers dynamic to this because the ml already is half in love with her when he sees her and doesn't feel any contrition or hesitancy to help her despite finding out that *gasp* she's fae.
If you enjoyed TOG and ACOTAR, you need to try this indie book. It is a fast paced novel with a diverse cast (something that I appreciate). There are also more books to follow this story.
