In 1998, Simon & Schuster (which acquired Macmillan in 1994) divested BradyGames as part of its educational division to Pearson PLC. BradyGames has grown to publish roughly 90-100 guides per year. On 1 June 2015, BradyGames merged with Prima Games, and future strategy guides made by the publishing company will be published under the Prima Games label.
This strategy guide is everything I personally wish for when purchasing such a book, as it provides the reader not only with a step-by-step completion of the main story, but also with many strategies on handling certain areas on the map, on defeating bosses, and on how to find all hidden items, unlock all hidden modes, and generally just work towards a 100% completion score.
The Order of Ecclesia Official Strategy Guide holds chapters that include information on combat training, completing the main quest/storyline, hidden dungeons within Dracula’s castle, unlocking hidden modes and different endings, all number and manner of Glyphs, items such as weapons/armour/accessories/relics, and finally a bestiary.
It’s also beautifully designed, and though the lay-out remains clear and easily readable, it does breathe an eerie Castlevania feeling in the design of its pages, use of its fonts, etc. Next to the usual useful screenshots and area maps, it’s also filled with incredibly gorgeous art (by Masaki Hirooka) of the main characters, a few NPCs, and the surroundings of Dracula’s castle.
Another upside of the book is the fact that though there’s an entire separate bestiary with statistical details on Dracula’s monsters, every single enemy gets a little segment of information in the quest completion chapter when it’s first encountered by the player, along with a handy strategy on how to beat it.
In short, this is a very solid strategy guide, that’s as useful for advanced players as it is for beginners, as it gives extensive details on both the completion of the main storyline, and on how to get a 100% completion on one’s game. It provides the reader with many useful tips and tricks throughout, and gives strategized approaches on almost everything.
Recommended for everyone who is a fan of the game, and enjoys a good strategy guide with incredible useful tips, beautiful art, and a Castlevanian yet functional lay-out.
