Two wonderful sea adventures! 20,000 Leagues The the Sea The story begins when a mysterious sea monster, theorized by some to be a giant narwhal, is sighted by ships of several nations; an ocean liner is also damaged by the creature. The United States government assembles an expedition to track down and destroy the menace. Professor Pierre Aronnax is a noted French marine biologist and narrator of the story; as he happens to be in America at the time and is a recognized expert in his field, he is issued a last-minute invitation to join the expedition, and he accepts. Canadian master harpoonist Ned Land and Aronnax's faithful assistant Conseil are also brought along. The expedition sets sail and after much fruitless searching, the monster is found. The ship charges into battle. During the fight, the ship's steering is damaged, and the three protagonists are thrown overboard. They find themselves stranded on the hide of the creature, only to discover to their surprise that it is a large metal construct. They are quickly captured and brought inside the vessel, where they meet its enigmatic creator and commander, Captain Nemo. It is here the adventure truly begins! The Mysterious Island tells the exciting story of five Americans stranded on an uncharted island in the South Pacific. During the American Civil War, Richmond, Virginia was the capital of the Confederate States of America. Five northern prisoners of war decide to escape Richmond in a rather unusual way - by hijacking a balloon. After flying in stormy weather for several days, the group crash-lands on a unknown, cliff-bound, volcanic island. Ultimately, Captain Nemo plays an important role in the resolution of the story

About the author

Novels of French writer Jules Gabriel Verne, considered the founder of modern science fiction, include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).

This author who pioneered the genre. People best know him for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870).

Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before people invented navigable aircraft and practical submarines and devised any means of spacecraft. He ranks behind Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie as the second most translated author of all time. People made his prominent films. People often refer to Verne alongside Herbert George Wells as the "father of science fiction."

Nada indicaba que leería este libro en estos días. Entro a una librería sólo para mirar y hacer un poco de tiempo, luego de un rato lo encuentro entre los estantes a un precio tan bajo que lo tomo y ya está.
Comienzo su lectura y no paro hasta terminarlo como me pasa siempre con Verne.

Además, compruebo que esto es lo que necesitaba para calmar nervios y angustias nocturnas recurrentes, poder tranquilizador que por mucho tiempo encontré en Holmes.
Este es Verne, el de los personajes puros y metafóricos, sus vehículos de exaltación de las bondades de la ciencia y la tecnología, de los valores del arrojo y la valentía, de la disciplina, la ética y la tenacidad.
El autor francés veía el lado luminoso y constructivo de la ciencia y la civilización occidental, ojala que muchos hubieran hecho lo mismo, porque sabemos que no fue así.
El ingeniero Cyrus Smith es el personaje principal de esta novela, el ejemplo más acabado de las posibilidades de la técnica y el conocimiento sistemático, así como de los valores éticos más imperturbables. Los personajes de esta historia logran dominar a la naturaleza, sin embargo, Verne les recuerda hacia el final que la naturaleza es más poderosa e indomable de lo que los frágiles humanos pueden llegar a pensar.
Por lo demás, es preciso leer esta historia para reencontrarse con el destino de otro personaje entrañable de Verne: el insondable capitán Nemo y su mítico Nautilus.

Por cierto, está de más agregar que la edición que leí es la más barata pero no la mejor (ni hablar de la traducción...). Me gusta eso de "Nuevo Talento" en la portada, ojala que muchos chavos lo leyeran y lo vieran de esa manera.

The child in me couldn't stop jumping and staring wide-eyed at the unveiling of this new and misterious world, with its captain - the biggest mistery of all. Had I first met the characters in my pre-teens, I would've spent hours imagining the size of the animals and depths described, I would've tried to find how each and every living thing mentioned looked like and sighed with disappointment every time I failed, I would've imagined long conversations with Nemo and I would have, finally, made him confess his secrets. This is a marvelous book because I encountered it twenty years later than I should have and I still did all of those things without feeling in a bubble that could burst at any second.

This book was my first encounter with the underwater world and ever since I read it I've been fascinated by oceans and their flora and fauna. I really liked the adventurous spirit of the main character and the author's descriptions of the world he created. Even though it was fictional I felt kind of a balance all the time and it made me curious till the last page of the book.

Veinte mil leguas de viaje submarino es una obra narrada en primera persona por el profesor francés Pierre Aronnax, notable biólogo que es hecho prisionero por el Capitán Nemo y es conducido por los océanos a bordo del submarino Nautilus, en compañía de su criado Conseil y el arponero canadiense Ned Land.

La novela está narrada de muy buena manera por el Porfesor Aronnax quien narra todo los hechos con suma claridad y detalle, transportandonos a lugares maravillosos y viviendo aventuras inimaginables bajo el mar.
Cada uno de los 4 personajes principales aporta lo suyo y cada uno con personalidades y acciones muy distintas lo que contribuye a la genialidad de este libro.
Verne sin duda era un adelantado a su época y un visionario, describiendo ya hace hace más de 100 años, cosas como los usos que se le puede dar a las electricidad o el poderío de las máquinas como los submarinos, además de tener una imaginación y una manera de narrar formidable.
Lo más increible del libro en mi opinión son la majestuosa descripción de la flora y fauna Marina así como las asombrosas aventuras que viven los personajes. Además de entretenerte leyendo esta historia, podemos aprender bastante ya que Verne en esta obra entrega datos acerca de diversos temas relacionados con historia y con navegación submarina, además de características de los diversos animales presentes en la historia
Verne es uno de mis autores favoritos y lo demostró una vez más en esta historia que me encantó leer aunque debo admitir que en ciertos momentos cuando daban mucha información sentí que la trama no avanzaba y se hizo un poco tedioso solo por eso no le doy 5 estrellas pero mi valoración es

In stark contrast to the Hollywood distortions of Verne's classic stories, these Sci-Fi's are really scientifically sound (unabridged). But, that's the problem. It would appear that Jules Verne was a botanist, or, at least, he studied Biology as a hobby because he felt it was terribly important to list every possible living creature on the island by its Latin name. I wish I was kidding about this, but he literally dedicated pages of his book to the listing of all possible life forms of flora and fauna! I can't tell you how many pages I skipped just to get back into the story! That's how it was for both novels, and I never finished "20,000 Leagues" because I wasn't ready to deal with that all over again in such a short amount of time.
In "The Mysterious Island" Part III is better. He dedicates his writing to nothing but the story, and I'm glad I had the patience to make it to that last part! I started the book without any former knowledge of what it was about, except for what I saw in movie trailers. It was all a big surprise to me at the end, and I really enjoyed the twist he put on it because I really thought there was a scary monster in the lake! As far as I'm concerned, that's what makes him the best Science Fiction writer, ever!

Si bien Verne decidió abusar de tecnicismos y del uso de la taxonomía en esta obra en concreto, 20.000 leguas de viaje submarino nos ha dado a uno de los mejores (si no el mejor) personaje que el escritor haya podido imaginar: el capitán Nemo. El origen de este y de su embarcación, el Nautilus, se ganan rápidamente la curiosidad del lector y, a medida que avanza la historia y se muestran más facetas del personaje, descubres que Verne no solo ha querido reflejarse en las páginas que él mismo escribió, si no que ha aprovechado para hacer una crítica bastante directa a la propia naturaleza del ser humano.

Sin duda alguna, este libro es un "must read" en toda regla y se merece todas y cada una de las adaptaciones que se le han hecho (siempre y cuando puedas aguantar párrafos y párrafos seguidos bastante descriptivos de las diferentes especies que profesor Pierre Aronnax y su ayudante Conseil se van encontrando a lo largo de la "ballena hecha de metal").

Disfruté leer 20.000 leguas de viaje submarino, fue una lectura muy entretenida que muestra un panorama del fondo del mar muy vívido. Envuelve en un ambiente de aventuras y deja ciertas preguntas que se quedan sin respuesta pero, afortunadamente, tenemos la novela de la Isla misteriosa para responderlas pero casi hasta el final.

Con La isla misteriosa necesite de un verdadero esfuerzo para terminarlo, sentía que no me dirigía a ningún lado en la historia, ya que Julio Verne hace unas descripciones profundas de todo lo que sucede en esta isla y no deja nada de lado.

En ambas novelas hay mucha información, interesante y necesaria para la historia y por eso mismo es importante llegar con la idea de que se avanzará lentamente y por ello se debe disfrutar del paisaje, de los hechos que nos presenta y tener paciencia. Mi error quizás fue leerlas una seguida de la otra.

Julio Verne realiza una profunda investigación sobre biologia marina para escribir este libro, todo esta muy detallado pero creo que muchos de esos detalles sobran un poco en la obra, nombrar a cada pez, su especie, origen etc, no tiene razon de ser.
El capitan Nemo es un exelente personaje, no disfruté mucho el final en el que simplemente de un momento a otro nuestros protagonistas estan fuera y a salvo del Nautillus sin alguna explicación lógica.

Una novela de aventuras. Un viaje a la locura, a la belleza marina y el deseo de libertad.
Un clásico fácil de leer y, más aún, de escuchar. Sin duda, este audiolibro ha mejorado mucho la, ya de por sí, buena historia de Verne. Que, por cierto, es mi primera experiencia leyendo al autor y estoy segura de que no será la última.
El caso, que recomiendo la historia, pero más aún el audiolibro por su viva interpretación e impresionantes efectos y banda sonora. Escuchado en Audible. ;)
