They were my pack. My fated mates. The three people who were supposed to love me no matter what. Or at least, that’s what I thought. Until I lost our baby… They changed, so I ran. I landed in a new city, alone, working two jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. Three months into my new life, I learn a terrifying truth. My old pack, the ones I ran from, were never my fated mates after all. No. They drugged me for two years into believing I was theirs. I guess now I truly am because what pack would want an omega that is already marked and mated? Certainly not the four stunningly perfect members of Pack Whitlock who seem to be popping up everywhere I go, right? Maverick, Hudson, Mason and Brooklyn. It’s best I stay as far from them as possible. It would be better to never know them than to have them and lose them when they learn the truth. I can never be theirs.
Authors Pack Deception is a reverse harem omegaverse, meaning the FMC will end up with multiple love interests, and will contain MM and FF. This is part of a duet and will end on a small cliffhanger.
I wanted to like this so badly because I liked the premise. Unfortunately, the writing just wasn't there for me. There was so much "telling" instead of "showing."
I feel like I didn't get to see the characters get to know each other or interact at all beyond sex. There was barely any dialogue. Instead, there were numerous paragraphs that would say something along the lines of (and I'm completely paraphrasing here), "We talked all night about ours likes and dislikes--favorite color, favorite food, etc." or "Each member of the pack went up to talk to Summer throughout the night." This drove me crazy because we didn't actually get to read their conversations or banter. I feel like I didn't get to know the characters at all. We didn't witness their first time meeting or many other interactions that went into building the relationships. Rather, they quickly dove into detailed sexual encounters every time she ran into a member of the Pack.
Additionally, everything seemed to happen so quickly and be accepted really quickly. The doctor told Summer that she had been drugged for 2 years, and while she is outraged, she is also very quick to believe the doctor and accept that it happened. There is no denial, which seemed a bit odd to me. It was the same thing with each member of the Pack learning that Summer is their mate. All they do is glance at her for 5 seconds from across a very crowded bar on St. Patrick's Day, and they're each like "Yep, she's my mate too." It seems extremely quick to just know by looking at her from very far away? And meanwhile, she can't tell at all?
Meh...might read book 2 if I'm bored, but we'll see. The ending cliffhanger seemed like a set-up for the miscommunication trope, which would be a bummer.
Lies and secrets, on top of more lies and more secrets?
Just not my cup. I love omegaverse, it definitely one of my all time favorite genres. But the aggravation I felt for this read. I'm not sure how not telling her the truth right away wasn't the answer. She's been lied to for two years, and you think woooing was the answer? This book is so ridiculous it made me mad. And of course we have a ending like we did here because more secrets and lies seemed to win out on common sense. Some books can pull off these things, this book did not
This was absolutely flawless. Okay, maybe it’s not perfect, but it was one of the best reads I’ve had lately. Why Choose (with MM and FF) No cheating, but there is minor OWD. Check warnings if you are sensitive to DV. The love interests are sweet and caring. They have depth and I’m absolutely obsessed with them. FMC is the inner strength and perseverance type. I think she’s my favorite type of FMC. She isn’t going to run a mafia or rule a fantasy kingdom, but she is absolutely strong in her own way. She knows when to walk away. She might struggle to see herself clearly through her insecurities, but she never gives up on herself. I’m a bit anxious where the cliffhanger is leading but I don’t regret reading this and having to wait. It’s definitely worth it.
3 stars/2.5 🌶 - Not bad. Fans of Pack Darling will probably enjoy it. The real issue I had overall was I felt like the MMCs were really flat. I could not tell you anything about them. The F love interest was super engaging, in contrast, and I would have liked to see more of her.
Excellent. It gives lola and the millionare vibes. The first book sets you up with a good chunk of the story. Cliffhanger dives you straight into book 2
SYNOPSIS (of Duet): The story is set in the Omegaverse universe. The FC, Summer, thought that she had bonded with her fated mates but after losing her baby and being hit by her alpha she decided to run away. She then discovered that she had been drugged into beleiving that the pack were her fated mates but they weren‘t. She lives off the grid working in a bar and for cash. She then meets her real fated mates Brooklyn (alpha), Hudson (alpha), Maverick (alpha) and Mason (beta) who know immediately who she is but who she does not initially recognise due to the drugs. The story covers the development of their relationship and how Summer avoid being taken back by her old pack. There‘s a HEA. Heat level is 🌶️🌶️
This duet was an enjoyable enough read but was a bit slow for me with not much happening and Summer‘s mates all being fairly vanilla (despite the attempt at a dominant scene) and low level alpha. The mates are all fairly similar in that save for Mason they are all alphas who have professional jobs and are not particularly strong personalities or overly possessive or aggressive. They‘re all very normal and low level in terms of strength of personality. Brooklyn is a female alpha and leader of the pack which adds a girlfriend element to the equation. Summer is likeable but does not come across as overly strong or kick ass. The author doesn’t give much in terms of background or world building so everything is fairly superficial.
Summer runs from the pack that she thought were her fated mates after the alpha lead hit her following her miscarriage. Now, I certainly don‘t advocate for a woman to stay somewhere where she is physically abused but it still seemed to be a bit extreme for her to immediately run away and hide after being hit once after years of apparently being treated well and lovingly.
Initially the real mates decide not to tell the FC that she is their mate as they don‘t want to push it on her. That leads to an unnecessary misunderstanding which is quickly resolved. As other reviewers have said, there seems little point in this sub-plot other than to create a little bit of drama.
There is also the overall plot of Summer‘s original pack wanting her back. Whilst the author implies that the reason the pack originally drugged Summer was because they were bored of waiting for their fated omega it made little sense that they would go to that extreme and then turn on her when she miscarried. Especially as the miscarriage was due to the drugs. It was also unclear why such a wealthy and powerful pack would chase her down to steal her back when it was clear that they would not get away with it and all they would be getting would be an unwilling omega.
Overall the story was fine but not a keeper for me with little real angst or depth to it or the characters.
I would rate it 3.5 stars, if I could, but there are no half stars. The story isn't completely bad. But not good enough to round it up. I have read far better Omegaverse books, that were more detailed, lengthy and several layers of personalities.
This book is too superficial in many ways. Like, we don't really get to know much about the characters. It's too predictable, either. The entire story, they just don't talk truly with each other. Which is the reason they don't really make any progress. Same with Pack Whitlock.
And I really didn't like the way how situations are skipped over by time jumps or by passively telling us what happened. That makes it hard to really get a connection to the characters and therefore a deeper insight on the relationship building.
And what is it with the chapters of Jade from Pack Monroe? That takes a lot away from the villain side. Because there is no mystery what they will do and when. We know what they plan to do.
And then that “cliffhanger”? So, the second part will be about miscommunication again? I'm just hoping it is not that prolonged, that half of the book is over before there is finally progress. Really. I don't get it.
On top of that, without true progress, the story was filled with some unnecessary drama either. Like the ex-girlfriends. It didn't help with the process.
Furthermore, I was confused for some time about the name of the doctor. She was introduced as Dr. Tanner. But then a few pages later, it was Dr. Turner. While I'm sure, the name is Tanner, since it was mentioned more often. So, it is logical to assume that the name is Tanner and Turner was a mistake. But still, shouldn't happen. I don't hold it against the author, because we are all humans and making mistakes is normal. It's just something I noticed.
So, with all that mentioned, I can't give a better rating. Hopefully, the second book fares better.
She was frustrating to the max. By the time we get to the end I just want to shake some sense into her. Honey please, use your head 😩🤦🏽♀️
Plot wise, I enjoyed an omega who couldn’t recognise her mates. After starting this book I realised that was the reason I chucked it on my tbr pile in first place. Well, it did the job and provided that little bit of yearning + angst while they sorted themselves out.
The men were unusually disjointed, arguing with each other in the pack, telling someone to butt out of the other’s relationship, things like that. I’m used to seeing all rainbows and unity within a well functioning pack, so seeing them like this was refreshing, but I still kinda hoped they’d get their act together. Me thinks that will probably show in the next instalment, but I want it now! 😂
I also didn’t realise that it was a poly pack with a female alpha. Tbh I’m still on the fence about whether I’m down for that or not. How have I gone this long and not read through an ov with a female alpha before? That fact kind of boggles my mind. Oh, no I have, but that was Bad Alpha, and doesn’t really count because she was still the only female in the pack. Here we have 2, the alpha and omega. I usually like all the focus to be on the one female but I can branch out I guess 🫣
Regardless, I’m unsure if I’ll continue. It pisses me off when a lead character hears 1/20th of a conversation, misconstrues it, and then runs off. TSTL 😩
ugh ugh ugh ugh. i was having such a good time with this book until the end. this is yet another book where the "problem" comes from a stupid miscommunication. please stop doing this. it's so annoying to read a book and have to sit with the fact that all the characters you just spent 300 pages bonding with are simply too stupid to open their mouths and have a real conversation.
and i understand that summer is sad and traumatized, so i get her initial reaction to run, even though i hate it. but it also makes me feel resentful of her pack. they're not smart enough to have a conversation they want to keep secret in a place that they're NOT expecting summer to walk into at any minute???
i'm still gonna read the second one, because i hope they actually get it together and figure it out quickly. but if the second half of this is one of those books spends 75% of the time with the fmc being all wishy washy like "hmmm should i forgive them, i dunno" then i will be extra annoyed.
open mouth, say words, solve problem. for the love of god.
This was an excellent omegaverse with a harem including guys and gals - group relationships, MM and FF. We love to see it!! I really appreciated the changing perspectives and focus that each of the relationships had. There’s friendship, romance, and on page spicy scenes that were all so well done! The book was well paced, excellently edited, and such a wonderful engrossing read. Be prepared to fall in love with all of these characters!! Also oh my gosh, we love an author who builds in their love of writing and the writing process into the book too - heck yeah! Well done.
Book 2 in the duology is available and I went right into it after reading. More, please more!!
Spoilerish: I was a little worried that the pregnancy trope was going to come up in this duo because in the synopsis of the book it references a pregnancy loss for one of our leading ladies. While there is discussion of fertility, and I don’t want to spoil anything, if pregnancy trope is not for you then you should feel safe continuing to read this.
Pack Deception, Part 1 of the Passion Pack series by Wren White & @authorwrenwhite is a new to me author. This book end son a cliffhanger!
Summer leaves her pack after she has a miscarriage because her alpha Jade hit her. A few months later, she meets Brooklyn, Maverick, Hudson, all alphas & Mason, a beta. They know that Summer is their mate & she feels something but because she found out that her old mate created a false mate bond with drugs she is still purging out of her system so she doesn't know what she wants with them. She starts to date them. Her heat starts & Maverick & Hudson get her through it. Mason was on a hiking trip out of the country. She goes to meet them at a restaurant & overhears them talking about her being their mate. She panics & leaves without talking to them. She sends a text to her old pack letting them know she knows what they did to her & that she will make them pay.
I really liked the plot of this duet. I liked the idea of having a pack that the omega thought was their mates and it ending up being a lie where they mistreat her, but luckily for her when she finds the strength to leave she meets her fated mates, even if she doesn't know it yet. This one had a unique twist that made it stand out from similar omegaverse stories which was nice.
However, this duet draggggged for me. Literally nothing all that exciting happened until 75% way through the SECOND book. And then the climax was just kind of boring... and weird and got resolved in an also, weird and boring way. I am genuinely surprised I even finished this duet.
I think it would have gone a lot better if it had been a standalone. Then the conflict wouldn't have felt like it was soooo far into the books, and I wouldn't of felt like it dragged as much before that.
If you love Omegaverse books this duet is a fun read. The characters were likable, there was lots going on with the plot, and plenty of spice. Summer, the FMC, is an omega on the run from the pack she thought was her forever; turns out they had drugged her and tricked her into bonding with them. She’s just trying to move on with her life and deal with the trauma she’s endured when she meets Pack Whitlock. I loved that there was not only a female Alpha but that she was the leader of the pack! I also really enjoyed the kind of found family vibes the pack brought to the table. I did feel like certain pack members were absent at times without explanation and there were a few small questions left unresolved which bothered me. As well as a lack of real depth in a few of the characters themselves.
These book does have some potential triggers; Miscarriage, Mental and Physical Abus€
Giving the first book in this duet 3 stars because I don't think it's necessarily bad, but it's definitely not the best Omegaverse I've read, and I do have issues with the writing.
The main issue we get in this book is that it's the typical telling us things instead of showing us. There's no significant relationship development that we can see happening while we read, so we're kind of just skipping from one scene to the next.
Everything in this book happens really quickly, as well, and I don't think that works.
Also - HUGE complaint about Jade's POV chapters. I think it didn't add a single thing to the story for the reader, only detracted. It was obvious that the man Summer runs into is a P.I. - we didn't need Jade's POV to confirm. Again, a case of just telling us instead of showing us via the story.
This is a new author for me, and I am so pleased with my first reading! The premise of this story was a bit different from your typical omegaverse, which was refreshing. The story sucked me in and kept me hooked , and the cliffhanger left me begging for the rest! I liked the characters, the story, the spice. The only thing keeping it from a 5-star for me is the whole “secrets for her own good” and mis(in this case non)communication tropes. The main drama here would be so easily avoided if any of them just had real conversations with each other.
Otherwise, everything about this was great. I thought it was well written and the pacing was great. I am definitely looking forward to book 2.
I finished that literally in one sitting! I’m so happy that part two is already out because I’m about to devour that as well! Anyway. The pack not telling her sooner put them in that predicament. They should’ve just sat down (which they were already leading up to) and told her the truth. Her previous pack had her so insecure that she thought she was drugged again and i completely understand. I just need for my girl summer to take a beat and use some critical thinking. They helped you through your heat and didn’t mark you. That says a lot. Now her not wanting to hurt mason had me feeling for her because i understood! Now I’m gone sick back and read the next one so i can get my HEA!!!
A LOT of the omegaverses I’ve been reading have not been good or hitting the spot. But this series totally did. The author did a great job making the characters realistic! There heartbreak in there yet you can the main character healing from it as her relationship with the pack progresses. I love all the characters, non of them are unbearable to read. Though I was not expecting the cliffhanger and I really hope that gets resolved fast in the next book because I hate miscommunication tropes. Not going to say to much without spoiling but it’s a great read I would totally move it up on your TBR list of your feeling up for an omegaverse!
Summer is on the run and hiding from her pack after having a miscarriage and being hit by one of her alphas. After settling in a new town, she meet Pack Whitlock and is drawn to them. Pack Whitlock realizes she is their mate, but can’t figure out why she doesn’t recognize their bond. I liked seeing them all get closer, but also I feel like they could all have had a few talks. I thought something else was going to happen at the end, so was not expecting the twist at the end, although I loved it more than what I thought would happen. I’m hooked and can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!
If you enjoy omegaverse stories and reverse harems you absolutely HAVE to add Wren White’s book Pack Deception to your TBR. And then move it to the top. Wren knows how to write relatable characters with back stories that will draw you in. There isn’t a plot line or POV that lags and I finished this book in one day because I was so engrossed. It was amazingly sexy and intriguing and I am looking forward to the second installment because holy cliffhanger. Brace yourself.
I liked this book and read it in one day, but it did feel a bit underwhelming at the end like nothing had really happened in the story. I did really like the characters (especially having the female alpha!) but aside from Brooke and Mason I can’t really remember any remarkable differences between the other characters. I also felt that the escalation of their relationship felt very random and not well thought out but I do feel like the scenes themselves made up for it for me.
Overall, it was okay and I would definitely read the next one!
In the blurb was an MM so reader knew to expect a little male on male. This was an in progress relationship, which in my opinion is a different situation with its own set of different issues all together.
Even with this being a RH type book, characters knowing they may share, coming into a pre-establised romantic relationship as the possibly 3rd person is not my preference to read.
I would have passed on this personally.
Otherwise, it's hats off to the author for getting their work out there.
Jade is running away from her pack. She thought they loved her, but when she had a miscarriage everything changed. One of her alphas got violent and she decided running was her only answer. But then she finds out her pack might not actually be her pack and that there are 4 people waiting to find their fated mate.
I liked the premise of the book. But I definitely wanted more. They gave her heated looks and were instantly all in with her but I really wanted them to find out things about her and make that solidify their want of her.
I actually really enjoyed this one, I think the story is actually pretty unique and I’m very interested to see how things work out with the large miscommunication that this book ended in, as well as how we’ll deal with having bonds already. I was honestly expecting the end being her old pack getting her back somehow and wasn’t thinking it would be miscommunication but interested to see how this resolves. I don’t usually love having a female alpha in the mix but I’m overall really enjoying this
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 1st person multi POV
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is my first RH with FF and I'm obsessed. I honestly wish there were a lot more books with it.
But on to the main point of this review: The plot of this series is literally so captivating and written so nicely. I'm also, in love with each and every main character! The way we get to know them all individually and get to see how they are with Summer is beautiful.
I will definitely be reading more of this author's work. Starting with book 2 ofc!
Loving this duet so far! Summer has been through so so much. She is just learning that her mates are not truly her mates. That’s she’s been drugged into believing it. She had run away and starting to rebuild her life. And in walks a new pack. They instantly realize that summer is their omega. But can she let them in? Can they get this hurting omega to open up and accept them? Welll read and find out!! It’s worth it
I LOVED ⭐⭐⭐⭐ this novel. I usually enjoy the more bestial type of Omegaverse stories. This is not that I rate it three on a light [one] to Dark [ten] scale. But the storyline is new and exciting, and you find yourself cheering for the characters' triumphs and feeling their sadness.
There are few Omegaverse stories with a female Alpha as the head of the Pack (or existing at all). Or if she is, she is somehow weaker than the 'stronger' male Alphas in the Pack. But Brooklyn embodied being Alpha without it coming across as forced. I will definitely be reading the second novel.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75|🌶️🌶️🌶️.75 This story has a great story line but it’s something missing. I feel like it was moving at such a fast pace and the spice was very prolonged and rushed than what I am use to reading for a Omegaverse. However I’m still curious to read the second part of the story and won’t count this new author out just yet! 💖
